2021 Joseph Roty Mazy Chambertin Grand Cru

2021 Joseph Roty Mazy Chambertin Grand Cru....$399.99

Aromas of cherries, plums, sweet berries, orange oil and licorice introduce the 2021 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, supple and fleshy wine with a satiny attack that segues into an ample core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. This can be quite structured out of the gates, but the inherent charm of the vintage has rendered it more than usually approachable. Tasting with affable eleventh-generation vigneron Pierre-Jean Roty—who took the helm at this discrete family-owned domaine following his brother's untimely passing in 2015—is an annual pleasure that I always eagerly anticipate. This year, it was the turn of the 2021s, wines that have nothing to fear from a comparison with other sunnier, drier recent years, exuding charm and perfume that will delight Burgundy purists. Roty fans will be familiar with the approach at this address: assiduously but only shallowly cultivated soils, a high proportion of old vines, minimal use of chemical treatments, destemmed grapes fermented in concrete tanks, and élevage in generous percentages of smoky new oak for 15-16 months. My sense is that today's wines are suppler than the Roty wines of yesteryear. They're less forbidding in their youth than their formidable reputation might suggest—even the grands crus boast such generosity of fruit that their rich structuring tannins are frequently concealed. But they develop just as gracefully as ever.

The 2021 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is especially good, bursting with aromas of red berries, cherries and plums mingled with peony, rose petals and spices. Full-bodied, supple and seamless, with an unctuous core of lively, perfumed fruit framed by melting tannins, it concludes with a long and perfumed finish. In its entirely different style, it's every bit as good as its 2020 counterpart. As readers may remember, it derives from a tiny enclave surrounded on three sides by Domaine Fourrier's parcel. 2021 Maybach Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon

Limited
2021 Maybach Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon...$199.99
Leading off the 2021s I was able to taste from Maybach, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus is flat-out brilliant and has a layered, perfumed, almost exotic style in its black and blue fruits as well as spicy, floral, incense, orange blossom, and gravelly earth-like aromas and flavors. It shows the concentrated yet vibrant, focused style of the vintage, has full-bodied richness, beautiful tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This powerful, structured, incredibly impressive Cabernet Sauvignon deserves 4-5 years in the cellar and will evolve for two decades at a minimum.

CRAFTED BLEND - Ensembles of great malt and grain
Some people believe that blended whisky is inferior to single malt. But this view ignores the long tradition of blending, which has given the world some truly great Scotch. Whisky blending is an art. We at Murray McDavid have used our extensive range of grain and malt to craft an innovative range of whiskies which will change your view of blended Scotch whisky forever.
To make this opulent blended Scotch whisky, our fourth batch of Rìgh Seumas II (pronounced “ray shay-muss”), we’re rebelling against mediocre blends. We have brought together a “dram worthy of kings”. This luxurious dram, bursting with a variety of different spirits, consists of 70% malt and 30% grain whisky – a highly complex and unique recipe. This is a European favorite that is now available to the USA.
This powerful blend, inspired by Jim McEwan, is the spirit of Bruichladdich, along with older malts from Auchentoshan, Tobermory, Arran, and Old Rhosdhu. These were matured in Bordeaux red wine barriques, blended with grain whisky, before resting in Sherry hogsheads. The arts of maturation and blending at their very best.

An homage to a classic combination, a tradition born in the bars of Glasgow, the ‘half n half’ is a half pint of beer with a Scotch whisky. Our half ‘n’ half is a blend of 50% single malt from four Speyside distilleries and 50% sweet Lowland single grain whisky. This coming together creates a dram that goes down perfectly with a nice, cool beer.

For its final year of maturation, we have finished the Half ‘n’ Half in hogsheads previously used to mature a hoppy beer from our friends at the MOOR Beer Co. in Bristol. This light and gentle blended whisky has developed into a very quaffable dram, one which we invite you to enjoy with your favourite beer.

Reimagining Asyla – our own Extinct Blend
Our Extinct Blends Quartet takes inspiration from vanished characters and flavours, reappraising four very different expressions of blended Scotch, using some of our most precious parcels of whisky.
First created in 2001, Asyla was the ethereally beautiful cornerstone of our core range until its retirement in 2018. With Delos, we have focused on capturing Asyla's vibrancy and soothing sweetness, turning to older stocks to achieve this.
Components are from the Imperial, Glen Elgin, & Miltonduff malt distilleries along with Cameronbridge Single Grain distillery
FLAVOUR PROFILE
A sweet succulence that breaks upon the nose in soft waves: ripe pear, pineapple, orange oil and vanilla cream. A medley of fruit tarts and white chocolate soothe the palate, while the maturity of the component whiskies gradually builds to reveal guava, heather honey and chai spices. Limited Edition

太太 TEITESSA is a Japanese whisky born from this philosophy:

"A fine whisky like TEITESSA is like a true friend. Rare and hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.”

Teitessa is different than any other Japanese whisky you have tasted…mellow, sweet, and refreshing.

The Master Distiller of Teitessa Whisky broke Japanese tradition when he crafted this whisky. Most Japanese whisky is crafted using the same distillation processes that are used in Scotland. The Master Distiller at Fuji Takasago wanted to create a truly distinguished Japanese whisky, so he invented his own still – the Sato still. The Sato Distillery was born in 1905 with the philosophy of "beautiful and authentic."

2018 Piccini Brunello de Montalcino

2018 Piccini Brunello de Montalcino....$39.99
Lowest price on Wine-Searcher is $59.99

An inviting, warm nose is headlined by aromas of earth, spices and dense fruit, with a latent salty, leathery element emerging. The palate is more uniformly fruit-forward, but a dusting of salt and pepper and a blast of spice preserve an overall feeling of nuance. Refined tannins keep vibrant acid in check.

Blueberries, cherries, cloves, cardamom and toasted nuts on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with sleek, tight tannins and bright acidity. Juicy and balanced. Drink after 2023.
