About Chieftain...
"Since 1936, Ian Macleod Distillers, through its dedication to tradition and quality, has amassed an unrivalled cask stock from Scotland's many distilleries. This enviable collection includes extremely rare malts, some from closed or mothballed distilleries. The Chieftain's collection hallmark is that each bottling must be fit for a King, a Leader or in the Celtic world, a Chieftain
The new look Limited Edition Chieftain's will appeal to the specialist, connoisseur, collector, enthusiast and those seeking an exceptional premium malt whisky gift. Each bottle is signed by our Chieftain's Rare Malt Manager, and provides details of the wood type, cask number, number of bottles, vintage year, age and bottling date
The small batch releases of Chieftain's are selected for the Spring and Autumn collections each year with a variety of distilleries, vintages, wood maturations and strengths being made available
The new, elegant antique bottle is reminiscent of a 1900 whisky bottle. It is decorated with a new style label design complete with new branding, calligraphy and watermark illustrations of Scotland, representative of the 5 different whisky producing regions. Each region is colour coded to signify the differences in the style of each whisky
The new more individual rigid presentation gift box, surrounding the antique bottle, in ribbed and matt black with gold lining, is a true reflection of the quality of the whisky, and with its folding back head beautifully presents the product. On the rear of the box you will find a label describing the various styles of whiskies you can get from the different regions of Scotland, all of which are represented in the Chieftain's range
Chieftain's is bottled at natural colour and unchill-filtered to preserve all the natural esthers of the whisky for fuller flavour and smoother taste.
Each Chieftain's bottling has its own personality and may vary in strength, colour and style. From the very pale, bourbon cask matured to the very amber sherry cask matured
When finishing the whisky in a variety of wood, each cask is checked and selected by our expert noses and released only when we believe it has reached its peak and has not masked the personality of
the original spirit." -- their website

Tim Herlihy – Tullamore Dew Brand Ambassador, USA

As far as whiskey experts go, they don’t come more Irish True than Tullamore Dew Brand Ambassador Tim Herlihy. From his humble beginnings in the small farming town of Termonfeckin in Ireland’s County Louth, to his work as the North American representative for one of Ireland’s most beloved and storied products, Tim’s life and career have been marked by the kind of passion, warmth and love of whiskey that typifies the Irish True character.

Combining an easygoing, jovial demeanor with an almost unrivalled passion for food and drink, Tim has spent his career dedicated to furthering Irish agricultural interests. Whether as an egg farmer, where he was responsible for 80,000 hens, or as a representative of Irish Food Industry Strategic Growth Committee or as the representative of Ireland’s most beloved spirits, Tim has spent a life devoted to bringing the products, personality and spirit of Ireland to life for audiences across the globe.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tim’s passion for whiskey was ignited in the cozy bars and pubs of his hometown. A natural raconteur, aficionado of useless trivia and self-proclaimed bar game expert, Tim found himself at home in these unique surroundings, where he was drawn first to the conviviality, spirited discussions and regular toasts. Before long, he became immersed in the world of whiskey, appreciating the subtle nuances of different blends, developing an expertise in the production process and, most importantly, amassing a comprehensive collection of bottles!

Tim’s passion and expertise were rewarded when he joined Cooley Distillery, where he lent his skills in dual roles of U.S. Business Developer and Brand Ambassador, promoting the distillery’s renowned Kilbeggan, Tyrconnell, Greenore, and Connemara brands. A true all-rounder, Tim’s work with Cooley allowed Tim to not only spread the gospel of Ireland’s water of life, but also led to him furthering his category expertise, developing a keen nose and palate which eventually led to him taking an active role in all aspects of the process, right down to cask selection and blending. His current role as Tullamore Dew Brand Ambassador sees him bringing his career to a new level, as he travels the country, educating, entertaining and sharing his passion for the most Irish True of Whiskeys.

As at home as he is on a sports field as he is in his favorite Irish True bars, Tim is a fan of rugby (a real man’s football), football (which he now begrudgingly calls soccer) and recently ran his first Marathon in Paris, in a blistering 4hrs 20minutes. But as Tim says, it’s not about the race, it’s about raising a few glasses afterwards. Slainte!

Summit Unchained Series

In stock at Forsyth now!

Summit Unchained Series Batch 09 Dunkel Weizen...$8.79 / 6pk
For Summit Unchained 9, brewer Eric Blomquist created a genuine Dunkel Weizen – an often-overlooked German wheat beer style. Similar to Hefe Weizen but darker (“Dunkel” means “dark”), this brew offers up complex and rounded flavors like biscuit, toffee and chocolate from the malts along with hints of banana and clove esters. As with all our Unchained beers, it’s only available for a limited time.

Odells Double Pilsner

order Odells online

Fresh, the first load of the year!
Best buy July 25
(assuming brewed on March 25)
Odells Double Pilsner....$9.99 / 4pk
We feel the eyes of tradition upon us whenever we brew our Double Pilsner. But this beer is not just our tribute to the classic Bohemian pilsner – it’s our own craft interpretation of it. Refreshing and delicate yet bold and assertive, its clear golden color leaves nowhere for imperfections to hide but plenty of room for mystery.

8.1% ABV

Sneaky Pete Imperial IPA

Just got the new batch of Sneaky Pete!
Online also

This is their "Hopslam style" with honey and hops!!
Laughing Dog Sneaky Pete Imperial IPA...$10.99 /4pk
Sneaky Pete is a blend of five hop types: Simcoe, Glacier, Centennial, Vanguard and Hallertauer, with Simcoe playing the dominate role at 30%. In addition, three separate malts were used: Honey Malt, Rye Malt, and Munich Malt. The brew has a copious aroma of white grapefruit, citrus overtones, a complex rich middle and long flavors in the finish; a real beauty. Finished with wild clover honey. 89 IBU’s, 10% ABV.

Mix-A-Six and freshness

With all the fresh Bells and Firestone Walker coming in today, I was already debating what to take home tonight.
I made my decision....
Fresh Bells Oberon
Fresh Bells Two Hearted
Fresh Firestone Walker Union Jack
I have all 3 on our Mix-A-Six Rack -- grabbing a mix for only $9.99

The reason I bring this up is the often commented on why we don't sell everything as singles.  The reason I always tell people is freshness.  We keep a small selection on the mix a six rack, but its always going to be fresh.  I load it down with customer favorites like Bells, Firestone Walker, Founders, Schlafly and so on.    We used to sell everything as singles and that just was out of control for containing freshness.   Somebody would always want some random beer as a single and the other 5 bottles would just sit for who knows how long.  We might have a small selection on our mix a six rack, but I can guarantee they are FRESH!!   We are extremely concerned about keeping our selection FRESH on the singles and the 6 packs.
(we do have a number of higher end beers sold as singles on the regular shelves also like Boulevard Smokestack Series and Odell 4pk beers).

Also, we do the same for our 6 packs, we might run out of Bells Two Hearted frequently, but that is part of our mission to stay fresh.   When Bells comes back into stock, we could by 50 cases to get us through to the next batch, but then we lose the freshness.  We would rather run out than sell old beer.  There are so many choices now that if we are temporarily out of Bells Two Hearted or another IPA, we always have another good choice for you that will be FRESH!  We could have bought more Bell's Oberon on the first batch, but now we have a very fresh batch at our stores.
Thanks!

Fresh Beer!!

Fresh Bells is here!
Bells Two Hearted Ale in stock
Bottled 3/26/12

Two Hearted Ale is defined by its intense hop aroma and malt balance. Hopped exclusively with the Centennial hop varietal from the Pacific Northwest, massive additions in the kettle and again in the fermenter lend their characteristic grapefruit and pine resin aromas. A significant malt body balances this hop presence; together with the signature fruity aromas of Bell's house yeast, this leads to a remarkably drinkable American-style India Pale Ale.

Augustijn Ales

In stock now
Augustijn Grand Cru....$9.99 / 750ml
Augustijn Blond....$9.99 / 750ml
Augustijn Donker (Brown).....$9.99 / 750ml
Augustijn Abbey.....$9.99 / 750ml

History.
700 years ago, in 1295, the Augustijner-abbey of Gent was created with the help of the ruling Borluut family. That's the reason why 1295 is printed on every bottle of our delicious AUGUSTIJN Abbey Ale. The origin of our Augustijn goes back to this abbey, where today only 7 monks are left. More than 20 years ago the monks licensed the recipe and the century-old yeast-string for that delicious beer to Brewery Van Steenberge, situated a few miles north of Gent in a small village, called Ertvelde.

In 1295, the Augustijner abbey of Gent was the first abbey of the Augustijner-order in the Netherlands. Modern Holland and the Flemish part of Belgium and France were one nation at that era and were called the "Netherlands". The abbey of Gent became one of the most important religious, political and cultural centers of Europe in the 14th and the 15th century. In 1582, the abbey was completely ruined by the Calvinists (Protestants). But shortly after that revolution, the abbey resurrected and became again an important religious and cultural center, until the French revolution, when the monks were expelled and the abbey was sold to the highest bidder.

Napoleon, the French dictator or Emperor, needed the money to pay for all his wars and he found and stole the money from the wealthiest power at that time: the Catholic Church. After the revolution, the abbey was reestablished but it never gained it importance back. In 1995 and 1996, the abbey is open for the public and shows all its artifacts. Important celebrations and exhibits are taking place all year round.

Geantet Pansiot 2009 Burgundy

"Vincent Geantet has hit an undeniable home run in 2009 as these are very probably the best wines that I have ever seen from him." -- Allen Meadows' Burghound

In stock now at Forsyth!

2009 Geantet Pansiot Marsannay Champs Perdrix....$45.99
Comments: Outstanding Top value
Tasting note: This is also quite fresh with riper still aromas that evidence notes of both red and blue pinot fruit that display somewhat curious but not unpleasant saline hints that lead to detailed and subtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent intensity and real finishing drive as well as very solid persistence.
Rated 90/100 Burghound

2009 Geantet Pansiot Chambolle Musigny V.V...$66.99
Comments: Outstanding Top value
Tasting note: A highly seductive nose speaks of black cherry and liqueur of red raspberry that dissolves into vibrant, rich and impressively concentrated flavors that possess a tender mid-palate but firm up quickly on the focused, intense and palate staining finish. This is not as complex as the two old vine Gevrey cuvées but it's, not surprisingly, finer.
Rated 90/100 Burghound

2009 Geantet Pansiot Gevrey Chambertin V.V...$66.99
Comments: Outstanding Top value
Tasting note: A relatively expressive nose of wild red berries, blue berry liqueur and earth undertones that are also reflected by the bigger and notably more robust medium-bodied flavors blessed with ample amounts of extract and an attractive touch of minerality on the seriously long and ever-so-mildly austere finish. A knockout at this level.
Rated 91/100 Burghound

Mad Hatter -

Made by Andy Erickson former winemaker at Screaming Eagle!
Not to mention he has made wine at Harlan, Dalla Valle and Spottswoode
Plus the very famous vineyard manager David Abreu and then throw in Michel Rolland.

2009 Mad Hatter Napa Valley Red Wine....$59.99

AGING: Aged for 20 months in 60% new French Oak barrels
WINEMAKER NOTES:
The 2009 vintage was a long, mild growing season which delivered fruit with bright acidity, relatively low potential alcohol, dark color, and expressive aromatics. As the year was relatively cool for Napa Valley standards, Merlot performed particularly well. For the 2009 Mad Hatter, we blended fruit from our estate with grapes from other valued sources in the Napa Valley, to create a wine that is soft, rich and generous. Cabernet Sauvignon adds a regal, classic quality to the wine, while smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot provide a depth and aromatic complexity that makes the wine even more compelling. After a short decanting, the wine comes alive, with deep, ripe notes of blackberry, black tea, and forest floor. On the palate, a solid tannic framework supports the rich fruit flavors, accompanied by subtle notes of gravel and minerals. This wine will easily age for a decade or more, but should probably be consumed now, in its youth, to enjoy all of the bright, fresh fruit character it shows now.

Winemaker: Andy Erickson
Consulting Winemaker: Michel Rolland
Vineyard Manager: David Abreu
Vintners: Paula Brooks & Bob Cook
"We came into this business loving wine and loving Napa but also knowing that we wanted to work with the most respected people in the business – if they would have us! Over the years we have come to not only thoroughly enjoy the members of our team, we have become friends. What better combination to produce something of which we are all very proud."

"Since arriving in Napa in 1994, I have been drawn to wines derived from special vineyard sites. The Dancing Hares vineyard certainly has all of the elements that will lead to a very compelling wine. In my time here in the Napa Valley I have also been lucky to work with talented and passionate people. Meeting Bob and Paula, and seeing their serious commitment to the vineyard, it was easy to see that we would work well together."

Andy has worked with some of Napa Valley’s premiere wine producers, including Newton Vineyard, Spottswoode, and Harlan Estate. He was the winemaker at Staglin Family Vineyard for the 2001 and 2002 vintages. Since that time Andy has taken on several winery clients, including Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Arietta, Ovid and Dancing Hares Vineyard.

Wall of Whiskey

The new wall of Whiskey/Whisky at
The Wine and Cheese Place Forsyth!

We now have all of the Whiskey/Whisky on one wall
Irish, Canadian, Scotch, American, French, Indian, Colorado, Missouri, Japan, Oregon, Belgium probably forgetting some...

Over 350 Scotches alone now!!!
All at amazing prices.  Compare and see.  We even had the reps from Gordon and MacPhail comment that they check out all the stores around the country and we are the cheapest they have ever seen.  They said that their Glenrothes 30yr old that we have at $189.99 is at $220 around the country and other places here in Missouri.  We are very competitive on our prices and our not afraid to post our pricing on our blog and emails for you to compare with others.  Some stores will not post their prices because they know they are too high compared to us.

Wall of American Craft...

Our remodeling is basically done at Forsyth....
Check out the new wall of all American Craft beers......
(this is just the American beers -- still have a ton of imports -- just counted over 220 Belgian beers alone!)

More organized, easier to see -- mostly sorted by state.
Still have a little more to fix.
