Top Chico Mineral Water....$1.19 / 12oz
Top Chico Mineral Water Twist of Lime...$1.19 / 12oz
Top Chico Mineral Water Twist of Grapefruit...$1.19 / 12oz

This is the legend speaks of the virtues of the water that has given its name, since 1895, to one of the most important drinks in all of Mexico: Topo Chico Mineral Water.

There was a beautiful Aztec princess who suffered a terrible disease, so strange that none of her father’s doctors, Moctezuma I Ilhuicamina, successor in 1440 of the King Itzcoatl had been able to cure.

Desperate, the King turned to the older priests in the kingdom to find a cure for his beautiful daughter. They told him that according to the timeless stories of travelers, in a far away northern land, there were strange and hidden waters which flowed at high temperatures, waters in which one only needed to bathe in or drink from to regain vigor, joy, strength, and refreshment.

Encouraged by this news, Moctezuma I ordered an immediate expedition to take his daughter to this amazing place. After traveling long and rugged roads, the expedition and the Princess reached a fertile valley flanked by mountains. To the east, they saw a mountain with the form of woman’s face (now “Cerro de la Silla”) and also found a mole-shaped hill, from whose slopes flowed the prodigal waters.

After spending some time there, taking baths and drinking from the water, the daughter of Moctezuma I, his priests and chiefs returned to the Anahuac lands optimistic, strong, happy and refreshed. The news about the recovery of the Princess spread throughout the kingdom and has passed from generation to generation up until modern times.

Benton's is back...

We are sampling it today - store smells of bacon...at FORSYTH now
Benton's Smoky Mountain Bacon...$11.99 /lb

This bacon is smoked the old fashioned way for two days.

"Our hickory smoked country bacon is equally at home on a bacon, lettuce, and vine ripe tomato sandwich or on the breakfast table as it is wrapped around a premier cut of beef or a fish fillet. Hickory smoked in our smokehouse using an old-fashioned wood stove, each slice of our bacon has a distinctive full flavor that has attracted and maintained a broad spectrum of customers, from those looking for smoked bacon “the way grandpa made it” to gourmet chefs with the most distinguishing of tastes." -- Bentons

Their bacon has been featured in Gourmet Magazine, Saveur Magazine, and Southern Living Magazine.

Their bacon has been featured in Gourmet Magazine, Saveur Magazine
and here is an excerpt from Southern Living Magazine. "This is, hands down, the best bacon I've ever tasted....Benton's Smoky Mountain Hams come from a much closer source: Madisonville, Tennessee. You don't have to take my word for it though. Just ask the farmers and chefs. Some of the nation's top culinary stars make magic with Benton's hams. Local farmers bring their personal hocks to be cured by the five-man shop that competes with industry giants. The secret? They do things the slow way—using meat-curing practices thousands of years old. "Everything is done by hand," says Allan Benton, who speaks about curing ham with a passion that other men reserve for sports. Until recently, he kept his clients' addresses on yellowed sticky notes taped to the wall. "We're a hillbilly operation through and through," Allan says. And wonderfully so. The transformation from pork to perfection takes place in a smoke-stained cinder-block building on the side of a Tennessee byway. In a traditional process that's never rushed, whole hams get slathered with salt, sugar, and the family's secret spices; then they cure—for 7 to 14 months—on wooden racks. Out back, where the scent of smoking meat hangs thick in the air, Allan opens a sooty door to reveal the mysteries behind his bacon. As the fresh air clears out the little room, a tiny potbelly stove appears. "This is my smoke generator," Allan says. "I bought it for $50 from a cousin." Order now, because publicity has driven demand for Benton's products, especially the smoked bacon. Allan loves telling the story of a Vegas casino that paid hundreds of dollars for an emergency overnight shipment. But then, who knows better than a casino how to bring home the bacon?" -- Southern Living Magazine, November 2007

Elote has a nose full of smoky toasted corn and dry river stones. The body is sweet with wood tones and layers of honeycomb, green tropical fruit, and smoke. It has a prolonged finish loaded with mint and papaya.
  • Mezcal Vago "Espadin" ($44.99)   Aquilino's family has been making mezcal for more generations than they can remember. He cultivates his Espadin in the hills above his palenque in the small village of Candeleria Yegole, located on the boarder of the Central Valley and Sierra Sur regions of Oaxaca. Yegole is an arid region of Oaxaca, yet sits on the confluence of two rivers. The dry environment, coupled with ample fresh water amke it the ideal location for making mezcal. Espadin has a light aroma of sweet potatoes, citrus and flint. Its palate has hints of anise and plantains with a long pine and caramel finish.
  • Nuestra Soledad Mezcal San Luis Del Rio ($39.99) Mezcal Nuestra Soledad is a single village mezcal that showcases the differences between the villages of Santiago Matatlán, La Compañía Ejutla, San Luis del Rio, and San Baltazar Guelavila.  Each different expression is made from 100% agave Espadín, by the producers of El Jolgorio mezcals, in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Montelobos Mezcal is proudly produced by Casa Montelobos, a Mexican company based in Oaxaca and Mexico City.

Arroqueño has notes of luscious melon on the palate, like cantaloupe and a bit of baking chocolate in the background. It is very vegetal, reminiscent of fresh green beans, with savory medium to long finish.
  • New Mezcalero Mezcal No 8 ($59.99) only 180 cases made.  "Mezcalero Release #8 is made from Agave Mexicano, Madrecuishe and Tobala. This well integrated mezcal offers a bouquet of aroma and a solid texture with complex notes of mature agave, stony mineral and tropical fruit, supported by a bold note of wood smoke. • Xicala Mezcal Joven ($35.99) “Xicala” is the Deity Who Roams Through the Land Singing of Love, Dreams, Yearning and Dancing.
Made from 100% Espadin Agave or maguey, then roasted over wood fire in an earthen pit for three to five days. The agave is then broken down under a horse drawn tehona wheel and then transferred to one of two small stainless steel stills to heat the roasted agave releasing the moisture and resulting mash to be fermented. The mash is then transferred to open top wooden vats where spontaneous Fermentation begins. Fermentation can take up to several weeks. Unlike tequila, the agave fibers are left in the mash to be fermented and distilled for maximum flavor. Like tequila, mezcal is distilled twice. The first distillation is known as punta, and comes out at around 75 proof (37.5% alcohol by volume). The liquid must then be distilled a second time to raise the alcohol percentage which is done in a copper pot still, discarding the head and tails, leaving only the heart worthy for bottling Xicala Mezcal.
  • Mezcal Creyente Joven ($39.99) Mezcal Creyente Joven is the union of two extraordinary mezcales of the regions of Tlacolula and Yautepec, in Oaxaca. The result is a perfect blend, made with 100% agave sprat. The three main parts of our mezcal are represented in a new mythological animal. The soft, velvety and complex body is incarnated by the elusive jaguar. The sweet, fruity and herbaceous notes are represented by the agile and elegant legs of the antelope. The sublime taste of smoked mesquite wood unifies these elements and comes to life in a symbol of Mexican tradition: the Real Eagle. The result of this mixture is a mild and complex flavored mezcal.
  • Bruxo Mezcal No.1 Espadin ($41.99)  Bruxo was created by a group of friends who love and honor our country , we discovered the magic field of mezcal, but above all , its people . It is gender equality and human dignity.
