Samichlaus Classic

Samichlaus Classic...$18.99 / 4pk
Bottled in 2017

14% ABV
Characterful - powerful
Brewed only once a year on the 6th of December, this strong beer is probably the most famous beer of our brewery internationally, with a large contest among the growing number of beer connoisseurs. The very elaborate and long-lasting manufacturing process (10 months in the warehouse) makes it a real rarity. Samichlaus can mature in the bottle for many years, older grades gain in complexity and maintain their creamy-warm finish. The proof: The 2004 vintage was at the World Beer Cup 2012 of gold medal winners in the category "aged beers".

Domaine Cabirau Serge and Marie

2017 Domaine Cabirau Serge and Marie...$19.99
A smaller production cuvée, the 2017 Maury Sec Serge & Marie checks in as 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan, and 10% Syrah that was brought up in a mix of foudre and used barrels. It's also the first vintage for new winemaker Marie Verges as well as the first vintage to ever see small barrels, which were purchased from Guigal in the Northern Rhône. Deep purple-colored with a smoky, meaty bouquet of black fruits, licorice, crushed rocks, and black olives, it’s rich, full-bodied, beautifully textured, and layered on the palate, with ripe tannins. This fleshy, expansive barrel sample has tons of potential.

Ritual NON Alcoholic Gin and Whiskey

At the requests of numerous customers -- we have added these to our non-alcoholic section at Forsyth

Ritual Gin Alternative...$24.99
Non Alcoholic Gin
Zero Proof
Our gin alternative is flavor-forward. English cucumber and juniper berries hit the top notes. A mix of all-natural botanical flavors shimmy in the middle. And mint and basil round out the bottom. Consequently, it stiffens tonic and every kind of juice, but it also loves soda and a slice of lime. Shaken and served with a twist is one of our personal favorites. You really can’t go wrong.

Ritual mixes 1:1 in all gin cocktails. It does the bright, crisp job of gin, only without alcohol or calories. You’ll taste plenty of organic herbs and florals, though, and a satisfying heat that lingers on the tongue and back of the palate.

Made for those who are working, driving, training, dieting, parenting, staying out later or getting up early.

Ritual Whiskey Alternative...$24.99
Non Alcoholic Whiskey
Zero Proof
In an Old Fashioned or Manhattan, our all-natural botanicals marry happily with orange, bitters and vermouth. On the rocks, the first thing you might notice is the fragrance of American Oak, sugar floss and vanilla. In a glass by itself, organic peppercorn and hemp carry a pleasant inner warmth. And hey, if you wanna swig it straight from the bottle rock star-style, it’ll play power chords on your tongue.

However you choose to enjoy it (and we’re all about choice) Ritual whiskey alternative delivers the taste and burn of good whiskey, only with no alcohol or morning hangover. It mixes 1:1 in all whiskey cocktails, and you could count its calories on two hands.

So you can stay sharp and still have fun, hit the gym, go to work, be a parent, live your life.

Only 6 bottles available (only at our Rock Hill location or reserve it online)

The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Franc Howell Mountain (100% Cabernet Franc) gives up exuberant bramble fruits, baked raspberries, mulberries and wild blueberries with suggestions of pencil shavings, kirsch, rose hip tea and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied and with a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, it has wonderful perfume and depth, finishing long and mineral laced. 537 cases produced.
Rated 97/100 Wine Advocate
This standout varietal wine is complex and lengthy in a wealth of juicy red and black fruit, with lasting accents of dried herb, sage, lavender and violet. Built to last, it should develop even more in bottle. Drink 2024–2026
Rated 96/100 Wine Enthusiast
Lots of spring flowers, chocolate, damp earth, and blue fruits emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Franc Howell Mountain, which is 100% varietal brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. With medium to full body, bright acidity, incredible elegance, and a still tight, focused style on the palate, hide bottles for 3-5 years and it should drink beautifully over the following 15-20 years.

Fondue time!

Members of our Wine of the Month Club get different specials each month.  If you are a member of our WOM club you get 10% off of Emmental, Appenzeller, and Gruyere this month!

Contrary to what some may think, cheese fondue was not invented in the 1970’s in an avocado green pot! Combining wine, melted cheese and flour, and dunking hunks of bread into it, was first described by the Greek poet Homer in the Iliad. However, cheese fondue, as we know it today, originated in the Alps. Cheese and bread were made in the summer and fall to last through the frigid and snowy mountainous winters. As the cheese and bread aged, they naturally became dry and very hard. Melting the cheese with wine and flour in a pot (perhaps with some dried herbs), and swirling stale bread in it, made a delicious and nutritious meal throughout the long winter.  Serves 4

Fondue recipe
16 oz of cheese - Emmental, Appenzeller and Gruyere.  Any mix of these three works well.
2 Tbls. flour or cornstarch
1 clove garlic, halved
1 ½ cups dry white wine such as Picpoul de Pinet
2 Tbls. Kirsch (cherry liqueur-available at TWCP)
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. nutmeg
Cubed crusty breads (French, Italian, rye, sourdough)

Dice or shred the cheeses. Rub the two cut halves of garlic around the sides and bottom of the fondue pot; discard the clove. In a bowl, add the flour or cornstarch to the cheeses and mix to coat. Place pot on a stove burner set on medium-low, and heat the wine. Add the cheeses a little at a time, constantly stirring in a figure-eight pattern (so the cheese doesn’t form a ball) until the cheeses are melted and hot. Do not simmer or boil the mixture! Stir in the Kirsch, pepper and nutmeg, and place pot in a stand over a flame to serve.

Some tips on cooking and serving fondue:
** The crust of cheese left at the bottom of the pot is considered a delicacy ~ enjoy!
** Do not put water into fondue. If it is too thick, add more wine.
** Don’t use a non-alcoholic substitute for the wine; alcohol inhibits the cheese from curdling.
** If you don’t have a fondue pot, a crockpot can be used for serving. However, use a pot on the stove to make the fondue.
**Besides bread cubes, the following bite-sized pieces are delicious dipped in fondue: cooked chicken, ham or sausage; cooked broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes and/or asparagus; and tart apples such as Granny Smith.

What to drink with fondue?

2016 Continuum Sage Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red

A perfect 100 for 2016 Continuum!
Another Perfect Score for Continuum

For the second year in a row Continuum Cabernet has received a perfect score. Following up on James Suckling's 100 for the 2015 Vintage the 2016 Continuum received a prefect 100/100 from Antonio Galloni and James Suckling. We are down to just under 3 cases as a company.

2016 Continuum Sage Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red...$246.99
The 2016 Proprietary Red Wine Sage Mountain Vineyard may very well be the single greatest vintage made here thus far. It is quite simply a stunning wine and a towering achievement from the Mondavi family. Powerful, ample and sweeping in stature, the 2016 boasts breathtaking intensity in all of its dimensions. I see the pure, vibrant fruit of the 2013, but with more finessed tannins that add to the wine's feeling of real sensuality. Bright, precise and finely sculpted with remarkable persistence and perfectly integrated tannins, the 2016 is positively stellar - not to mention one of the wines of the vintage.
Rated 100/100 Vinous Media
Super aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Hints of fresh herbs and tobacco. Iron and ink. Full-bodied, very tight and powerful, yet not too heavy. Lightly chewy and polished. So much nerve and intensity. Super length and depth. Drink after 2025, but a joy to taste now.
Rated 100/100 James Suckling
The 2016 Proprietary Red is blended of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it emits an incredible array of seductive floral notes—violets, lavender and rose hip tea—with a core of warm cassis, redcurrant jelly, dark chocolate, cigar box, tapenade and crushed rocks plus hints of bay leaves, beef drippings and yeast extract. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with vivacious black fruit sparked by red fruit, herbal and mineral accents. It is framed with a rock-solid line of firm, grainy, super ripe tannins and finishes with fantastic fragrance and freshness. Wow!

2015 Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole

2015 Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole....$75.99
The 2015 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole is a delicate and pure expression of Nebbiolo. The wine shows its naked beauty with pride, provocatively semi-dressed in lacy, floral aromas of wild rose and pressed violets. At this young age, the wine exhibits a gentle mix of fruity and floral characteristics that merge into the bouquet with intrepidness. The fruit from this vineyard within the Barolo township has maintained its freshness and crispness despite the heat of the 2015 growing season. I think it would be a lovely match for a veal piccata and cream sauce, with parsley and capers.
Rated 94+/100 Wine Advocate
Enticing aromas and flavors of plum, cherry, iron and menthol are folded harmoniously into the lush texture and broad tannins of this long and vibrant red, with licorice, mineral and tobacco elements lingering. Best from 2022 through 2040. 1,200 cases made.

Round Table Tasting #4: Wed Feb 5th, 7pm - Daou Vineyards - Paso Robles
Winery introduction:

From high up off Adelaida Road, the Daou brothers continue to make a massive lineup of stellar wines. As I’ve said in the past, these wine compete with the best of Napa and are some of the leading Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles. Standing alone at an elevation of 2,200 feet, Daou mountain rises from the heart of the Adelaida District in the rugged coast range west of Paso Robles. It is a terroir of symmetry, power and purity. The Daou brothers’ vision is to produce California “first-growth” wine, fulfilling the Adelaida District’s destiny as the world’s next benchmark for Bordeaux varieties. -Jeb Dunnuck

"Daou's estate vineyards (which emphasizes Bordeaux varieties) are planted at high density on steep slopes in Adelaida District in a site once singled out by the great André Tchelistcheff for its potential. Grown in these soils and in this climate, Daou's vines produce grapes with an extraordinarily high phenolic content, to which the estate's winemaking has gradually adapted. Macerations are very short, with the wines finishing fermentation in barrel, but even so these inky, structured reds don't lack for color or substance. Acidities are healthy, alcohols never in excess of 15%, and the wines are totally dry. I looked at two verticals in the course of my tasting, so I'm also in a position to observe that these wines evolve very slowly. There's no one else making Cabernet Sauvignon like this in Paso Robles." - The Wine Advocate

What we will taste:
2018 Daou Sauvignon Blanc - $14.99
Starting with the only white I was able to taste, the 2018 Sauvignon Blanc Estate showed brilliantly, with a Bordeaux Blanc-like bouquet of lemon oil, crushed citrus, white flowers, and background oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, this is a stunning Sauvignon Blanc.
Rated 92/100 Jeb Dunnuck, also rated 92/100 Wine Enthusiast

2018 Daou Chardonnay - $ 19.99
Broad aromas of lime spray, tangerine, lemon peel, lychee and white flowers converge on the nose of this bottling. There's compelling cohesion of flavors on the palate, where poached apples and pears meet with a hint of savory sea salt.
Rated 91/100 Wine Enthusiast

2018 Daou Pessimist Red Blend - $23.99
The Pessimist cuvée by the Daou Brothers is always a good value for those who love opulent fruit, and the 2018 offers loads of sweet blue fruits, white chocolate, violets, and toasted spice aromas and flavors. Based on 62% Petite Sirah, 19% Zinfandel, and 17% Syrah, it’s full-bodied, decadent, and rich while staying light on its feet. I’d be happy to drink it.
Rated 90-92/100 Jeb Dunnuck

2018 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon - $26.99
Checking in at 13.9% natural alcohol, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is outstanding, with a forward, charming yet also structured style. Classy notes of cassis, currants, and violets all emerge from the glass, and it’s already drinking beautifully.
Rated 90/100 Jeb Dunnuck

2017 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - $54.99
At this early stage, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve seems to be even more promising than the 2016, opening in the glass with aromas of dark berries and damson, without any trace of its time in new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and intense. Rich and layered, there's a lot of substance here, but it's replete with sappy energy. This could easily turn out to be the best Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve to date.
Rated 92-94/100 Wine Advocate, also rated 92-94/100 Jeb Dunnuck

2016 Daou Soul of a Lion - $144.99
Also bottled the week before this tasting, the 2016 Soul of a Lion includes more Cabernet Sauvignon than the 2014 and 2015 and is 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot. It’s an incredible achievement and has sensational notes of crème de cassis, graphite, violets, and lead pencil shavings. Made in a pure California, pedal-to-the-metal style, with full body and loads of fruit, it stays balanced, has ultra-fine tannins, and a layered, seamless style that just glides over the palate. Don’t think Paso Robles can make world-class Cabernet Sauvignon? Try this wine.
Rated 98/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Rated 95-97/100 Wine Advocate

Lastly, we are excited to taste and help launch in Missouri for the first time, Daou Bodyguard!

2017 Daou Bodyguard Red (70% Petit Verdot/ 30% Petit Sirah) - $37.99
A smoking value from this team is their 2017 Bodyguard, which is 70% Petit Verdot and 30% Petite Sirah. It’s a big, full-bodied beauty for those who love fruit, offering impressive cassis and blue fruits, violets, and peppery herb aromas and flavors. It’s a lot of wine for the cost and ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years, if not a lot longer.

For the best in bourbon, go straight to the heart of corn country – crafted of nearly 75% corn and distilled to a higher proof, resulting in a more clean, approachable sipping whiskey. This is the best of the Midwest in a bottle! 80 proof.
Brilliant copper color. The nose is complex and subtle for a Bourbon with scents of grain, brown baking spices, and oak, with accents of dried herbs, fresh mint, and hints of toffee. The palate echoes the nose delivering a dry and slightly astringent fruit and caramel core with flanking notes of baking spices, pepper, and toasted grain. Medium-bodied with ideal balance thanks to a bright dose of acidity and dry spices. – BevX

Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey...$21.99
Conor McGregor
MILLING & MASHING:  The finest barley is steeped, germinated and gently air dried. Using a traditional roller mill, the malt barley is then turned into a fine grist.

FERMENTATION:  After mashing, the natural fermentation process produces the wash (essentially beer) with over 8% alcohol.

DISTILLATION:  The traditional triple distillation method uses copper pot stills, which create and fine-tune the proper character. After the first distillation, the strength of the spirit is increased through a second distillation with a low wine still. A third distillation in the spirit still, creates a cut above 80% alcohol. This captures the heart of the spirit.

MATURATION:  Our coopers hand-select the finest former bourbon barrels in which to age our proper whiskey. Our spirit slowly ages developing through the years flavours of vanilla, honey and toasted wood.

BLENDING:  The blending of sweet Irish grain spirit and single malt Irish whiskey lies at the heart of Proper No. Twelve. Our Master Distiller selects casks that hold the rich character needed to craft Proper No. Twelve Whiskey.
