2021 Bonny Doon Vineyard Picpoul Central Coast...$13.99 / 750ml
Story
"Picpoul" translates literally to "lip stinger". It is a high acid, savory, white, rustic grape variety, especially well suited for seafood. Thrifty (which is to say it overcrops like nobody's business), extremely high yielding, the vines must be aggressively thinned for uniform ripeness and flavor intensity.

Winemaker Notes
"The redoubtable Beeswax Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County has the very singular and coincidental habit of producing white grapes expressing the unique scent of...well, beeswax. Along with beeswax, one apprehends the rather discreet scent of white flowers and perhaps pineapple. But while the scent of Picpoul is subtle, one is forcefully struck by the wine's bracing acidity and its unique savoriness (who's you-mami?). A soupcon of Grenache Blancs adds a discreet measure of weight and texture; further, there is a discernible quality of brininess that makes this wine and aboslutely perfect match for all manner of crustacean and molluscan nutriment." - Randall Grahm (Winemaker/Founder)

Winemaker Notes
"In cool years the Grenache is enormously pretty and fragrant. This was the first year of production for the Cinsault and it was thinned multiple times both for enhanced concentration and evenness of ripening. The cooler climate gives the Cinsault a wonderful articulation of flavor, but what is most noteworthy is the fact that we were able to coferment the Cinsault with Syrah. Something magical happens when Syrah and Cinsault marry; the healthy tanin titer from the Syrah seems to give more structure to the Cinsault, helps to stabilize color. The spicy licorice component from the Syrah is a perfect foil to the Griotte cherry derived from the Cinsault." - Randall Grahm (Winemaker/Founder)

Maplewood Bavarian Dream...$9.99 / 4pk 16oz cans

Off Color Brewing Pumpkin Beer for Cafes

Off Color Brewing Pumpkin Beer for Cafe...$9.99 / 4pk 16oz cans
TASTING NOTES
Sure, it’s a pumpkin beer so it tastes a lot like everything else that is pumpkin spiced. But Pumpkin Beer for CafĂ©s gains a sweet, nutty, and earthy twist from cold brewed red rooibos tea and vanilla beans in an already chewy base beer heavy in unmalted grain.
SECRET TECHNIQUE
To maintain as much of the aromatics as possible from the spices and tea, we only heat them to pasteurization before steeping them in final beer. The highly volatile aromatics easily escape with extended heating times or hot side brewing additions which make the brewery smell great but take away from the beer. Because everyone loves warming pumpkin spice 6 weeks a year!
INGREDIENTS
Munich Malt, Flaked Wheat, Wheat Malt, Flaked Oats, Flaked Barley, Nugget hops, Lotus hops, Pumpkin Puree, Vanilla Beans, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, Red Rooibos Tea, Water

2017 L'Aventure Estate Cuvee

2017 L'Aventure Estate Cuvee...$99.99
The flagship 2017 Estate Cuvée (49% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Petit Verdot) spent 15 months in 90% new French oak, and I certainly blew the barrel review on this wine. It offers a brilliant bouquet of crème de cassis, crushed violets, lead pencil, chocolate, and a rocking sense of minerality. Deep, full-bodied, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, it's about as polished and sexy as they come in the vintage.
Rated 98/100 Jeb Dunnuck
A blend of 49% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Estate CuvĂ©e has a very deep purple-black color and explosive nose of black cherry and boysenberry preserves, crème de cassis, cedar, violet, burnt orange peel, baker’s chocolate, thyme, grilled meats, loamy earth and Indian spices. The silky, full-bodied palate is expansive, spicy and floral laced, with a firm but incredibly pixelated frame and great freshness on the long, dense finish. This merits another 3-5 years in bottle at least.

2019 Saint Prefert Isabel Ferrando Colombis Chateauneuf du Pape....$139.99
3,720 cases made, 310 cases

The 2019 ChĂ¢teauneuf Du Pape Colombis comes from more sandy soils and is all Grenache raised in demi-muids. Wild strawberries, cherries, flowery incense, lavender, and loamy earth all make an appearance, and it's full-bodied, has a deep layered texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's another wine that needs a few years of bottle age, but it will deliver the goods over the following 15+. This is Grenache at its most elegant and seamless.

2018 Isabel Ferrando F601 Chateauneuf du Pape....$799.99
Named for the vineyard parcel from which it comes, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape F601 is entirely Cinsault, from vines planted in 1928. Aged in demi-muids, there are only 800 bottles of this new cuvĂ©e, so I suppose this review is largely academic. That said, when Cinsault performs like this, it's certainly worthy of note, as it's often used for rosĂ© or (in ChĂ¢teauneuf, an appellation where rosĂ© isn't permitted) dismissed as a minor blending variety. This wine is anything but minor. Floral and spicy on the nose, supremely silky on the palate, nearly endless on the finish, it delivers the goods, cushioned by perfumed, herbal, cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. It's not quite as expansive or generous as the Grenache-based Colombis, but it might be more concentrated and longer on the finish. I've been deliberately conservative with my drinking window, as it's delicious now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it showing well in a decade's time (assuming there's any left).
