Goose Island Bramble Rye -- VERY LIMITED!

Goose Island Bramble Rye....$11.99

It is sold out, sorry, a few happy people, many not so happy.

Thanks very much!!

Brewer's Notes:At Goose Island our brewers take every opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and aging techniques. For this edition of Bourbon County Brand Stout, they aged the classic recipe in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries from Michigan. The result is a powerfully rich beer with notes of tart fruit and jam that fade into the warm spice of a fine rye whiskey.

Recipe Information:Style: Rye Whiskey Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with Raspberries and Blackberries Added

Avery Maharaja + Russian River Collaboration!

Available online now

Avery Maharaja Imperial IPA Batch ...$6.99 (22oz)
Bottled January 13
Rated 100/100 on RateBeer
Beer Style: Imperial India Pale Ale
Hop Variety: Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial and Chinook
Malt Variety: Two-row barley, caramel 120L, victory
OG: 1.090 ABV: 10.24% IBUs: 102
Color: Dark Amber
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.

Russian River Collaboration!
Avery Collaboration not Litigation Ale....$6.99 / 22oz
We are on Batch #6 now!
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales, created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized we both had a Salvation in our lineups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the name rights? “Hell, no!” we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex and rich libation. In April 2004, in a top secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well, actually it was packed in the pub and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, “We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!” “Perfect,” we shouted! We celebrated deep into the night (or is that morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over two years, we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie made the journey to Avery Brewing to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery." -- Avery

Fresh Bells!!!

Get your Valentine some Two Hearted Ale - we have it and we have it FRESH!!

Just in time for Valentines....

Bottled January 31!
Bells Two Hearted Ale....$9.99 / 6pk
"Two Hearted Ale is defined by its intense hop aroma and malt balance. Hopped exclusively with the Centennial hop varietal from the Pacific Northwest, massive additions in the kettle and again in the fermenter lend their characteristic grapefruit and pine resin aromas. A significant malt body balances this hop presence; together with the signature fruity aromas of Bell's house yeast, this leads to a remarkably drinkable American-style India Pale Ale." -- Bells

The Wine and Cheese Place / Schlafly Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad Release Party!

We are proud to announce the release date for our Bourbon Barrel Quad!

TWCP/Schlafly Bourbon Barrel Quad Release Party!
Hosted by Dan Kopman, co-founder of Schlafly
Friday February 17th - 6-7pm
We will taste the Bourbon Barrel Quad along with the "regular" Quad.
$10 per person.
Plus you can purchase up to 2 bottles of the Bourbon Barrel Quad...$13.99 / 750ml bottle

Schlafly / The Wine and Cheese Place Bourbon Barrel Quad is BOTTLED!!!!!

When we first put the Schlafly beer in barrel six months ago (check out the pics) , I thought this day would never come....but....
I got "the call"  from Stephen Hale, head brewer of Schlafly, that they bottled the Bourbon Barrel Quadrupel.  That is the good news, the bad news is that the "angel's share" was bigger than we thought.  The barrel only yielded 18 cases of bottled beer after evaporation.   We are going to save a case for for special tastings and ageing. So that leaves only 17 cases to sell or 204 bottles!

We cannot tell you how excited we are about this program and to be involved with local breweries in creating these rare, limited, and exciting beers.   I think it is very exciting for the beer community here in St. Louis and is a result of the close network we have and the amazing brewers and their willingness to participate.   This is just the first one to be bottled with 5 more beers in barrel and more on the way.  Click here to read more about the barrel program and scroll down the blog posts and check out the pictures..

Great looking bottle --

The resulting ale is loaded with oak and bourbon character, as well as the rich dried-fruit character of the Quadrupel. We have created a unique taste you will only find in this extremely limited edition. We filled just one bourbon barrel and may never produce this beer again, so enjoy!

Blended Malt Whisky of the Year Award

Whisky Advocate Award: Blended Malt Whisky of the Year

Compass Box Great King Blended Scotch Whisky...$37.99
also online

FEBRUARY 7TH, 2012
JOHN HANSELL
Compass Box Great King Street, 43%, $45

Two outstanding contenders battled it out for this award this year: The Mackinlays ‘Shackleton’ whisky and The Compass Box Great King Street blend. Both tasted great, both took the category into new territory, and both showed what can be achieved through clever and thoughtful blending.

The Mackinlays ‘Shackleton’ whisky is a blended malt whisky — a mix of malt whiskies with no grain — and recreated the whisky found in the Antarctic camp abandoned by Ernest Shackleton. It was well packaged, was relatively well priced, and tasted great.

But the Mackinlays is all about history and the past. Compass Box Great King Street, a sweet citrusy and vanilla-doused blend, is all about the future. John Glaser and team don’t make bad whiskies, but often they have been esoteric, small batch, and all but unavailable to many of us. This blend is different, and is an attempt by Compass Box to introduce quality blends to a new generation. It had a relatively modest price point and brought the artisan skills of Compass Box to a new audience. It’s that rarity: a blend that drinks well on its own but tastes great when mixed. More than that, it’s perfectly placed to bring blends back into vogue. Anyone for a highball? —Dominic Roskrow

Canadian Whisky of the Year

Whisky Advocate Award:  Canadian Whisky of the Year

We have 2 cases in stock now!!! online also
Wiser’s Very Old/18 Year Old.....our price.....$49.99

FEBRUARY 3RD, 2012
JOHN HANSELL
Wiser’s Very Old/18 Year Old, 40%, $65
Some folks always suspect that food or drink exporters keep the best stuff for themselves. I’ve heard it about cheese, beer, fruit…but when I’ve looked into it, the export markets are indeed getting “the good stuff.” Why not? You’d want to send the best to get the highest price, given that shipping costs are the same for great or mediocre products.

But after enjoying this bottle of Wiser’s Very Old (also sold as Wiser’s 18 Year Old), I’m starting to think that the Canadians really are keeping the good stuff up north. There are small amounts for sale in the U.S. (though that’s slowly increasing), but almost all of it stays home.

That’s a hardship for us non-Canadians, because this is a very nice whisky. After years of thinking of Canadian whisky simply as fuel for highballs and sweet Manhattans we’re looking for something else, something that can stand on its own and intrigue us, or something that could make a more robustly Canadian cocktail, and this Wiser’s would very much fit the bill. You can really taste rye and oak, without a lot of gloppy sweetness, and there’s a finish to reward sipping contemplation.

We’ve seen innovation in this category from John Hall’s Forty Creek whiskies, and rare elegance from limited bottlings like Canadian Club 30 Year Old. Wiser’s Very Old delivers classic Canadian smoothness with a rich extra helping of well-integrated flavor and complexity. Keep it coming, Canada; we’re ready for more.—Lew Bryson

You know I will keep you up to date with the blog/facebook/twitter this weekend.   I am thinking next Friday February 17th as the official release date.

Old school beers...

Some new beers/package from old school breweries...

New beer from Newcastle -- seasonal

Newcastle Founder's Ale....$7.79 / 6pk

Only one Limited Edition is special enough to bear the name Newcastle Founders Ale. The name, like the star on its label, is a tribute to the heritage of the five founding brewers of Victorian-era Newcastle. Its nutty brown color, light-bodied flavor and malty dry, bitter finish will make you as proud of our heritage as we are.

Corona Familiar....$3.49 / 32oz
There seems to be a big debate online if this is the same beer as "regular" Corona or if it is a different beer.  Some think it is the same beer just keeps better because it is in the brown bottle and some think it is a different beer.  Either way, we have it in stock now.

Now found in over 150 countries, Corona has become:
The #1 selling beer in Mexico
The #1 selling Mexican beer in the world
The #4 selling beer in the world

George Killian's Irish Red.....$6.29 / 6pk
I was told that they changed back to the original formula?  I could not find any information online about it though.  At minimum, it is a new package and in stock

Now in stock!!
