WhistlePig Roadstock Rye Whiskey

WhistlePig Roadstock Rye Whiskey...$69.99
Compare to $71.99 at Total Wine and More

Introducing RoadStock Rye: The world’s first ever finished-on-the-road whiskey. Once again we have broken down the boundaries of what’s possible in the whiskey world. WhistlePig RoadStock Rye was created on the road less traveled and is the first ever All-American barrel double finished rye. In collaboration with Jordan Winery and Firestone Walker Brewery, the epic journey of RoadStock began earlier this year at our 500-acre farm in Shoreham, VT, where we commissioned an 18-wheeler ‘Rolling Rickhouse’, which would make its way from Vermont to California and back on an epic 6,000-mile journey.

Upon completion of the RoadStock Rolling Rickhouse, half of the future RoadStock whiskey was transferred into Bordeaux blend casks from Jordan Winery that would make the full 6000-mile round trip journey providing ample time for the whiskey to steal the nuanced complexity from these incredible casks. The other half of the whiskey would remain in their virgin oak original barrels until we made it to California.

After weaving along the historic Route 66, the RoadStock Rolling Rick House headed north to Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, CA. where the balance of the whiskey was transferred into Firestone’s Imperial Stout, Imperial Blonde Ale and Experimental Ale barrels to finish on the long journey back to Vermont.

When we returned to the farm we knew we had something truly exceptional on our hands. So we blended and bottled WhistlePig Roadstock Rye and even created a rubber tire topper to commemorate the journey. This 86-proof, hand-crafted stunner sings with a symphony of raspberry jam, brown sugar, and toasted cedar. Buckle up, because it’s about to take your tastebuds on an unforgettable ride.

We use the same original processing method as in 1920, guaranteeing the highest quality and excellence today. Beyond her postcard images, Venice conceals many treasures to which only a fortunate few have the key Uniqueness, legacy, taste: in no other city in the world are these concepts as valuable as in Venice.  And it is no coincidence that the story of Select Aperitivo began right here, in the district of Castello, the historical heart of this intriguing city.

The year was 1920 and Venice was in deep turmoil following World War I. The young Pilla brothers, with their distillery and expertise in the art of making liquors, seized this unique moment and used it to their advantage.

Venice was at a turning point: people were just beginning to venture out again and rediscover life’s pleasures. The act of enjoying an aperitif with friends spread throughout the city and Select Aperitivo assumed the starring role in this new cocktail scene.

Almost a century has passed, but today, Select Aperitivo is still known as the true icon of the Venetian aperitif: a unique bitter that is served at the iconic bars in the Lagoon and by bartenders around the world, eager to offer something unique and special.

Very small production - only 200 cases imported!
2016 Chateau Fuisse Pouilly Fuisse Les Clos Monopole...$69.99

Aromas of Meyer lemon, orange blossom, delicately musky peach, honeycomb and wheat toast introduce the 2016 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos, a full-bodied, multidimensional wine with terrific depth and concentration at the core, balanced by succulent acids and concluding with a long, perfumed finish. It's similar in scale to the Brûlées, but it's simultaneously more intense and more controlled; it's also the most elegant of the Château Fuissé's wines. Drink 2018-2032
Rated 93/100 The Wine Advocate
This historic domaine continues to make some of the best wines in Pouilly-Fuissé under the latest generation of the Vincent family. Sourced from one of the village’s great vineyards, this is a stylish, exotic, sensitively oaked wine that combines fruit concentration with underlying freshness and zip.
Rated 95/100 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine

1er Cru!
2019 Domaine Barraud Pouilly Fuisse Sur La Roche...$53.99

This too is presently carrying full-on fermentation aromas and is impossible to judge. More interesting are the exceptionally rich and imposingly dense broad-shouldered flavors that are at once caressing but powerful thanks to the copious amount of dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid spine shaping the beautifully long finish. Note that while this should generously repay mid-term cellaring, it's not so structured that it could not be approached after only a few years.
Rated 91-93/100 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Pouilly-Fuissé granted new premier cru designations - Decanter Magazine
After a 10-year application process, the French National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO) approved the classification making Pouilly-Fuissé the first appellation within Burgundy’s Mâconnais sub-region to benefit from premier cru vineyards.

Frédéric-Marc Burrier, president of the Pouilly-Fuissé growers association, said the result was a ‘dream come true’ and beckons ‘the beginning of a new era for Pouilly-Fuissé, and probably for Mâconnais as well’.

Burrier says the long process was necessary in order to fully integrate the idea of a Premier Cru quality hierarchy within the mindsets of the growers, and that the main key to the application’s approval was their ability to remain united.

‘We learned a lot about willpower, tenacity, and patience. We always tried to convince the growers to favour a collective success rather than individual interests. They understood it, and in order to discuss with INAO, it was very important to show a united strength’.

The 22 new premier crus represent a total of 194ha under vine, accounting for roughly 24% of Pouilly-Fuissé’s total vineyard area (800ha). The newly-classified vineyards are spread over four communes of the appellation that only produce white wine from Chardonnay: Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson.

The new status begins with the 2020 vintage, currently being harvested, and will appear on the market after 12-18 months.

The proposal to recognise specific sites as premier crus was first initiated by Burrier in 2007 and a formal application submitted to the INAO in 2010.

Since then, the appellation worked alongside the INAO and the Organization for the Defense and Management (ODG) to determine the worthiness of these terroirs. This included years of analysis which saw the creation of a detailed map outlining the appellation’s 217 legally-registered liex-dits from which subsequent analysis was made into elevation, aspect, slope, and soils as well as the history, cultural practises and pricing models of each climat.

A number of blind tastings were also conducted by a panel of experts. The application went into its final review phase in November 2019 with the ultimate decision delayed until after the lifting of lockdown restrictions in France revealing the final decision at the beginning of September.

Burrier hopes the ruling will help achieve further critical acclaim for the region’s white wines and a renewed interest in visits to the region for Burgundy lovers to ‘discover and evaluate’ the 22 new premier crus.

It is the first time since 1943 that a premier cru level is newly recognised in a Burgundian appellation. I hope it will allow Pouilly-Fuisse to achieve recognition as part of the greatest white wine appellation in Burgundy.’

The 22 new premier crus, commune by commune:

Chaintré:
Le Clos de Monsieur Noly
Les Chevrières

La Croix Gratiot Picpoul de Pinet

Fresh and lively!
One of our favorites is back in stock!
New 2020 vintage!

We skipped the 2019 vintage because of the tariff price jump.  But we are back with the 2020 at a great price!

2020 La Croix Gratiot Picpoul de Pinet....$13.99
For a grape variety that can sometimes be aggressive, this is an beautifully balanced Picpoul. The nose is perfumed with floral, and tropical fruit notes. In the mouth the wine is full of stone fruit, melon, and fruit cocktail notes. The soft fruit is tempered with an intense minerality, and citrus notes. Picpoul de Pinet has always been a textbook match for oysters, mussels, and just about any other type of shellfish you can imagine.
About Picpoul de Pinet: Known as the “Chablis of the South”, the wines of Picpoul de Pinet are crisp, bright and refreshing. The name Picpoul, literally translates as “Lip Stinger”, referring to the grape’s naturally bright acidity. A line of hills protects the appellation of Picpoul de Pinet from the northwestern winds, while the coastal winds from the Mediterranean temper the summer heat. The appellation includes six communes: Mèze, Montagnac, Pinet, Florensac, Pomérols, and Castelnau-de Guers.

Joel Falmet Champagne Les Parcelles Brut

Back, small production, it has been hard to get due to demand!

Annual production only 1,670 cases, they are able to control every aspect and produce a higher quality -- for reference (Veuve Clicquot produces 1.5 million cases a year!)

Joel Falmet Champagne Les Parcelles Brut...$39.99 / 750ml
Grower Champagne "RM" Récoltant-Manipulant

The grapes for this wine are all sustainably farmed. Joël is one of only a few producers to use a soléra system for his vin de reserve each vintage. As he pulls out wine from his vin de reserve, he adds a little wine back to his soléra. Currently it is a 12 year old soléra, which significantly adds to the depth and complexity of his Champagnes. Each vintage he blends 30% wine from the solera, with the current vintage. The “Parcelles” cuvée spends 42 months on the lees before disgorgement. Joël bottles his wine with a low, 9 grams per liter, dosage. Annual production only 1,670 cases

What a fantastic value in Rose Champagne. Tiny production!

A CRAFT BEER PIONEER SETS HIS SIGHTS ON SPIRITS
The original Anchor Distilling Company was established in 1993 by Fritz Maytag, the same beverage visionary who sparked the craft beer movement with his purchase of Anchor Brewing in 1965. Maytag had rescued the struggling brewery and its iconic steam beer, and after several decades of exclusively producing beer, Maytag saw an opportunity to expand into the distillation of spirits.

THE RETURN OF POT-DISTILLED WHISKEY TO THE UNITED STATES
Fritz’s vision of a rye whiskey revival was fueled by the bold realization that there were no pot-distilled whiskeys being made legally in America at the time. Finding inspiration in the rye whiskeys of America’s past and the great single malt whiskeys of Scotland, Fritz gathered a small team to begin top secret research and experimentation in the distillery. The first whiskey went into barrel in 1994, and the distillery soon began producing three rye whiskeys under Fritz’s guidance, all pot-distilled spirit from a mash of 100% malted rye. Over time, the range of spirits expanded into other categories, with the addition of Junípero Gin and Genevieve genever. The creation of Junípero was particularly significant, as it effectively started the movement towards high-end craft gin in the United States.
