Vecchia Romagna Italian Brandy

It has been years since we have seen Vecchia Romagna in St. Louis...

We have them back in stock now...

Vecchia Romagna Etichetta Nera....$23.99
"Distilled from premium grapes, Vecchia Romagna Etichetta Nera is a brandy with unmistakable flavor. A long ageing process, partly in small oak casks and a skilful ingredient mix give it a distinct, dry taste, an aromatic, complex bouqet, and a warm and intense colour. This brandy is know and apprecieated the world over for its fine quality and characteristic triangular bottle.

Vecchia Romagna Riserva 10 Year Old....$32.99

"Vecchia Romagna Riserva 10 Anni is a product resulting from a careful selection of wines and masterful distillation according to the "charentais" method. The lengthy ageing process imparts a delicate, yet complex aroma, a warm amber colour and a pleasantly smooth and balanced taste that mek the "Riserva 10 anni" an exlusive brandy for the most demanding palates."

Tasting Notes
The warm vintage resulted in a riper style—more expressive with a fuller, creamier mouthfeel. Ripe melon, tropical fruit, mango and baked apples all mingle amid the round, luscious texture.

Food & Wine Pairing
Dishes with full flavor are great partners to the Chardonnay. Chicken marinated with fresh lemon and rosemary then grilled, panko-crusted halibut or crostini topped with white bean puree are all excellent choices.

90 Point Sauvignon Blanc for $12 !!

2013 Ferrari Carano Fume Blanc....$11.99
It is always with some degree of sentimentality when I taste Ferrari-Carano’s Fumé Blanc as this was my Mother’s favorite wine until she passed away in 2002. She even refused to eat at restaurants that didn’t carry it. The excellent 2013 Fumé Blanc exhibits plenty of honeyed melon, white peach, poached pear and other tropical fruit notes, underlying crisp acidity and a creamy, surprisingly flavorful mouthfeel. Drink this beauty over the next 12 months while waiting for the 2014 to be released.

New Belgium Portage Porter...$7.99 / 6pk
A great porter just feels right in your hand. And carrying a glass of Portage Porter is no different. An opaque, brown pour, this beer presents with coffee and chocolate aromas, with hints of toast and smoked almonds. The taste follows suit, adding an upfront sweetness and a slight, roasty bitterness to back it up. Creamy and wonderful, this porter sips a medium body and finishes dry and delightful. Portage Porter carts itself towards perfection. Just tip your glass and keep smiling.

Numanthia on sale!

Big time Sale!

2010 Numanthia "Numanthia"....$42.99
The Wine Advocate release price...$60
Comparte to Total Wines & More...$47.99
The 2010 Numanthia comes from a cooler vintage than the 2009 – a season when Manuel Louzada told me that he had to wear a pullover in the vineyard during picking! It is aged for 21 months in new French oak. The bouquet demonstrates more fruit concentration and clarity than the 2009, the 0.5% less alcohol making a tangible difference. The aromatics are more Medoc-like than the 2009. The palate is full-bodied with mouth-gripping tannins, yet it has a silky smooth texture. There is real attack on the mid-palate, perhaps a little more vigor and tension with hints of graphite and sous-bois towards the strict finish. This is due to be launched in September 2013 and should be at the top of any Toro-lovers’ list – maybe even above Termanthia? Drink 2018-2028+

Stone Enjoy By 2.14.15 IPA...$6.79
Style: Double IPA ABV: 9.4%
You have in your hands a devastatingly fresh double IPA. While freshness is a key component of many beers – especially big, citrusy, floral IPAs – we’ve taken it further, a lot further, in this IPA. You see, we specifically brewed it NOT to last. We’ve not only gone to extensive lengths to ensure that you’re getting this beer in your hands within an extraordinarily short window, we made sure that the Enjoy By date isn’t randomly etched in tiny text somewhere on the label, to be overlooked by all but the most attentive of retailers and consumers. Instead, we’ve sent a clear message with the name of the beer itself that there is no better time than right now to enjoy this IPA.

*All prices are net no additional discount

2012 Jadot Le Musigny Grand Cru...$699.99
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru is utterly beguiling on the nose: beautifully composed and refined with scents of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers. The palate is supremely well balanced with perfect acidity slicing through the sophisticated dark berry fruit interlaced with spice and minerals. There is an effortless quality here that is totally captivating and it probably represents the apogee of Louis Jadot’s mammoth portfolio this year.

2012 Jadot Corton Pougets Grand Cru Beaune...$99.99
Bright, dark red. Raspberry and spice aromas lifted by crushed stone. Sappy and energetic, with a classic dryness to the intense flavors of red fruits, menthol and minerals. Really saturates the palate with flavor and builds on the long, vibrant finish. A classic vintage for this cuvee, thanks to the strong stony element

Premier Cru:

2012 Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru...$165.99
A beautifully complex and airy nose features ripe aromas of exuberantly spicy plum, violet, sauvage and essence of red currant. There is a very round and velvety mouth feel to the delicious medium weight flavors that somehow manage to retain a good sense of delineation and energy on the overtly mineral-inflected and wonderfully long finish. I very much like the sense of harmony where the fine-grained tannins add to that impression. This should be excellent in time though note that it will require a minimum of 10 years of cellar time before this is approachable and another 5 to 7 before it arrives at its peak.

2012 Jadot Nuits St George Les Boudots 1er Cru $109.99
A heady nose of very strong menthol and wood toasty aromas barely allows the cassis, spice and earth scents to be appreciated. The flavor profile is notably denser and more serious than either the Vaucrains or Les St. Georges as is the finish that is powerful, complex, mouth coating and imposingly long. This should reward longer-term cellaring and note that it will definitely need at least a decade first.

Rated 91-94/100 Tanzer

2012 Jadot Beaune Clos de Ursules...$75.99
This is aromatically quite similar to the Boucherottes with perhaps just a bit more floral influence. The mouth feel is also comparable because while there is excellent volume and intensity, the texture of the medium-bodied flavors is notably refined, all wrapped in a moderately austere, concentrated and driving finish. This is an interesting exercise in contrasts with a polished mid-palate juxtaposing against a robust, serious and old school finish. This will require ample patience.

Help us sell growlers in our store!

I was forwarded this from a few customers....and wanted to pass it along.

We have been trying to seller growlers at our stores for years now -- please go sign this petition to move it along.

Legalize Growlers in Missouri
(for retailers like The Wine and Cheese Place)
Petition by Aaron Banks

To be delivered to The Missouri State House, The Missouri State Senate, and Governor Jay Nixon
Urging Missouri legislators to pass a law allowing the sale of growlers for off premise consumption.
There are currently 285 signatures. NEW goal - We need 300 signatures!

Consumption of craft beer is growing nationally and the sale of growlers allows consumers access to small brewery beers (most of which are unavailable in cans or bottles) at home. In addition, allowing the sale of growlers will increase state revenue and is a "green" alternative to disposable containers.

It is quick and easy
