Huge score! New wine!

2013 Chateau Puech-Haut Coteaux du Languedoc la Closerie du Pic...$29.99
"...the 2013 Coteaux du Languedoc la Closerie du Pic is an incredible looking barrel sample that's made from equal parts Syrah and Grenache, with the Syrah aged in barrel (some new) and the Grenache in concrete tank. It exhibits terrific amounts of cassis and black raspberry fruit to go with additional notes of pepper, smoked meats, violets and crushed rock. Full-bodied, beautifully pure, layered and elegant, yet rich and textured, it should drink nicely on release, yet also evolve gracefully."

Thunderstruck IPA!

Stone Brewing Thunderstruck IPA...$7.49 /22oz
Our 19th anniversary beer brings the boom, delivering it to the palate in a voluminous, hop-driven thunderclap backed by the power of our brewing passion and intensity. This double IPA owes its considerable oomph to a quartet of Australian hops—Topaz and Galaxy, plus newcomers Ella and Vic Secret. We also had Fairview malt shipped in from Australia just for this brew. The beer's striking tropical fruit, citrus and peach hop flavors and slightly resinous and aromatically dank earthiness are sure to electrify your senses.

We have many special beers planned for release to celebrate our 20 years of brewing, so let this serve as the first course to what will be an undoubtedly epic feast for craft beer enthusiasts, with particular thanks to those who've been with us for the long haul and helped us attain such longevity. Consider this the first of many Thank-Yous...for years to come!

#1 Champagne!

A fresh load of the blue label just arrived!

Our regulars are really starting to switch to this GROWER Champagne!
Hand made with care!

Instead of asking for the Yellow label, ask for the Blue Label

Drink Outside of the Yellow Box
For years Yellow Label has been our top selling Champagne, and for good reason, it is a fantastic Champagne.   I have always said “No one looks at you funny when you bring Yellow Label to a party”, people know what to expect and are happy to enjoy it.  This summer however we are asking you to “Drink Outside of the Yellow Box” we have found an amazing Champagne from grower Joel Falmet, picked by The New York Times as best Non-Vintage Brut under $40 and winner of our own in-house blind tasting.  Joel Falmet came out #1 in our blind tasting of 5 famous Champagne houses.  Come grab a bottle of the blue label and join our efforts to Drink Outside of The Yellow Box.   There is nothing wrong with the "Yellow Box", but maybe it is time for a change.

"So, here it is. If you can afford to spend $30 to $40 a bottle on Champagne, more or less the entry-level price nowadays, you may find yourself with some seriously good wine.
The Falmet Brut Tradition was our top-rated wine. We found it full of lively energy, with complex flavors of flowers, minerals, citrus and herbs, and with more finesse than you generally find in Champagnes dominated by the pinot noir grape." - New York Times

Classic beer of the week : Paulaner Munich Lager

We are featuring a "Classic" beer in our Friday night tasting when we can. So many people may have never had these beers because they are not the "new" or "hot" craft beer anymore.
Classic beer of the week : Paulaner Munich Lager

I picked this one because it is a classic, plus it has been out of stock for awhile and has brand new packaging--so we know it is nice and fresh.
Paulaner Original Munich Lager
A true classic

This beer is credited for being one of the most popular Munich lager. Moreover, our brew masters were among the first to bring Munich lager beer to the Bavarian taps. The recipe for success remains: A perfect balance of malty character and the light bitterness of hops.
Our Original Munich Lager is a true classic with its clear and bright gold sparkling hue, crowned by a pure white head. A beer which always goes down well: mild, elegant malts, with a hint of sweetness and a soft hint of hops in the background. This Munich beer is ideal to accompany spare ribs and spicy dishes. Just try it!

Forsyth Cheese Feature: Les Fermiers Basco Bearnais Ossau Iraty

The BEST Ossau Iraty - Made from RAW Milk sheep cheese aged for over a year!!!

Les Fermiers Basco Bearnais Ossau Iraty
In 1983, fifty farmers got together to create a coop which allowed them to mature and sell their cheeses with milk from their own flock. Once the cheeses are made, they are brought to the nearest of three small affinage facilities in the neighboring valleys. There the cheeses are hand-brushed every 2-3 days to develop a natural rind and will stay till they are fully aged.
“Lou Rey” is their special designation of the highest caliber wheels of raw milk Ossau Iraty Basco Bearnais has to offer. Once the best wheels are chosen, they are singled out and aged for an additional 3-4 months for a total of almost a year of aging. Unlike industrial Ossau Iraty it is made from raw milk made during the summer months on alpine pastures. Flavors should be intense and full of savory brothy umami giving way to creamy herbaceous undertones.

Roelli Dunbarton Blue
Dunbarton Blue has a thin natural rind with plentiful mold and a golden interior, with just a little bluing near the edge. The texture is dense, compact and sturdy, like English cheddars but drier. It smells of bacon and mushrooms, meaty aromas that signal a cheese with high umami, and the flavors nicely balanced sweet with salty.

I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey...$69.99
I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey...$29.99
A good story gets better with each telling, and the legend of I.W. HARPER is no exception. Finally, after nearly 20 years, the I.W. HARPER brand is returning home with two new, exceptional I.W. HARPER bourbons. Beginning with a subtle nose, I.W. HARPER Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey leaves traces of caramel and vanilla on entry before melting into velvety bursts of wood and spice. The finish is sweet and pleasant with subtle fruit notes.
ABV: 82 proof, 41% ABV

1980s...I.W. Harper is no longer available in the U.S.
Back at home the bourbon market is declining, but luckily for I.W. HARPER it’s quickly expanding across the globe, especially in Japan. In response to bourbon's surging popularity in this market, United Distillers decides to slowly cease its I.W. HARPER distribution in the U.S. and shift focus overseas. And thus, I.W. HARPER bourbon bids America farewell and embarks on its next chapter.

2nd Shift Barrel aged LSD

UPDATE:
We should see more KATY on Friday.  Many have been asking.
The Vanilla versions are not ready yet.    The release will not happen until at least September 21st.  At that point we will see if the Vanilla versions are close enough or if we will release them separately.

We will release these through BRC.   We want to thank 2nd Shift Brewing for doing these limited releases for us....so a heavy portion of this release will be based on your 2nd Shift purchases in the BRC.  Because without support of their amazing "regular" beers, they could not do these small batches!

We will base it on March 1, 2015  through release date on your 2nd Shift purchases until September 19th for sure - we might push it back still.

4 barrels at 2nd Shift....two Four Roses, a Knob Creek and one High West....

Iconic Cherryblock!

2012 Sebastiani Cherryblock Cabernet Sauvignon...$99.99
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Cherryblock is another brilliant effort from Sebastiani. Dark black cherry, blackcurrant, plum, licorice and forest floor characteristics are present in this inky, opaque ruby/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied with supple tannins, a multilayered mouthfeel, and plenty of purity, flavor depth and length, it is approachable now, but should age effortlessly for 15 or more years.

2012 Kamen - 96 Points!!

2012 Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon....$89.99
Another outrageous effort is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon). Its opaque purple color is followed by aromas of pen ink, graphite, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, charcoal and flowers. Dense, full-bodied, multidimensional, long, silky and opulent, this stunning Cabernet can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years.

These 2012s, made by winemaking consultant Mark Herold for proprietor Robert Kamen, are the finest wines yet produced by this small boutique operation located largely with the relatively new AVA of Moon Mountain. There are 1,800 cases of the Cabernet Sauvignon, only 150 cases of the Cashmere, 125 cases of the Syrah, and less than 100 cases of the Cabernet Franc.

Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon Villages

From one of the superstars of white Burgundy!!!

2014 Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon Villages....$18.99
Mâcon Villages is issued from two plots (total 1.8ha) of clay and chalk located in the towns of Uchizy and Chardonnay. The vineyard is turned towards the South and is about twenty years old. The parcels are cultivated following organic and biodynamic methods.

Wine Making: The Mâcon Villages is aged in “vieux foudres” (wood barrels containing 53 hl) and kept on yeasts for seven or eight month before being racked and prepared for bottling which is done in July and August.

New Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir

Our go to under $15 Pinot Noir!

2013 Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir...$12.99
The Roca family has been producing wine in Mendoza for 4 generations, and currently farms 280+ acres in San Rafael, the southernmost province of Mendoza. At altitudes of 2,600 feet above sea level, Roca’s vineyards produce distinct, cool-climate wines of singular quality.
Tasting Notes:  Deep crimson color, with black cherry fruit aromas, and light floral, vanilla notes. Ripe and full-bodied on the palate, with delicate plum character and a long, lingering
finish.  Serve With: Excellent with pizza and hearty pasta dishes, it will also stand up to red meats, grilled or stewed.

90 Point Rioja Crianza - Ostatu

2012 Ostatu Crianza Rioja...$18.99
Opening the classical line in reds, the 2012 Crianza is mostly Tempranillo with 10% made up of Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha fermented in stainless steel and with the mandatory 12 months in used oak barrels. It starts with cheesy, reductive notes, no doubt from some lactic aromas which are intermixed with exuberant, ripe fruit, plums and cherries and well-integrated oak; it brought me memories of the carbonic maceration reds from that part of Rioja. The palate reveals a wine that drinks well, with polished, slightly dusty tannins, which could do with a little more freshness. I'm tempted to say that this is the red that feels more true to its roots and category.

Roche Audran Côtes du Rhône “Cuvée César”

Back in stock!  One of our favorite producers!

2014 Domaine Roche Audran Côtes du Rhône Villages “Cuvée César” Rouge...$22.99
The vines for the César range from 55 to 100 years old and the grapes are hand-picked

The Cuvée Cesar is one of Vincent's top wines. His very old Grenache vines produce a wine packed with black raspberry, black pepper, with hints of cassis fruit, all supported by firm ripe tannins. In the nose plum, red and black cherry, and garrigue spices mingle together. While the “Cuvée César” is a relatively lush and generous wine, it is also a wine built for the long term. So drink it now with a nice steak au poivre, or wait a few years and try it with venison or duck breast.

Hitachino Sweet Stout

Back in stock

Hitachino Sweet Stout....$4.49 / 11.2oz
From Japan's most prestigious brewery, Hitachino Nest Sweet Stout is one of the last, true examples of this classic beer style, which was first documented in the 1900s in England. The nutritional value of lactose, a by-product of cheese making, is widely credited in the further development of this style throughout the 20th and 21st century, in particular during and after both world wars. As milk sugars are not fermentable by beer yeast, sweet stouts are characterized by their low level of alcohol (around 3.5% ABV), rather modest carbonation, and hints of sweetness on the palate and finish. The rise of mass produced beers in the later part of the 20th century, however, caused the demise of this classic style.

Authentic milk sugar (95% of lactose is milk sugar), about 10% of total grain bill, is added to the boil -- 10 minutes into it. Kent Goldings hops are used. A fermentation period of about 10 days and a maturation time of three more weeks conclude the brewing of Hitachino Nest Sweet Stout.

New Grist Ginger Style Ale

New Grist Ginger Style Ale....$8.99 / 6pk
Gluten Free
4.7% ABV
We took our refreshing gluten-free beer, New Grist Pilsner, and brewed it with fresh ginger for a zesty, thirst-quenching flavor: introducing New Grist Ginger. This beer pours light gold with a rocky white head kicking out aromas of ginger and malted sorghum. The spicy-sweet ginger greets the palate first, before moving into the familiar flavor of New Grist: tangy green apple, light body, and crisp, refreshing finish. Overall, New Grist Ginger is a flavorful, easy-drinking, session beer with a snappy ginger punch.
New Grist Ginger goes great with any variety of ginger-infused Asian dishes, like the sweeter broth of chicken Saigon pho, mild-to-spicy Thai gai pad king, or the spicy citrus notes of chana masala.

“This is a medium-bodied stout brewed with orange blossom honey, milk sugar, and aged on orange peels,” said Ska co-founder and Overlord of Brewing Operations Bill Graham. “It is a great match for summer evenings when you feel like something more substantial than a lager or pale ale, but still not too heavy.”

The release will double as a summer kick-off celebration and will be held at Ska World Headquarters in Bodo Park. The packaging for the Estival Cream Stout features a black, 12-oz. can, with Ska’s Pinstripe character emerging from a fiery citrus sun. As with all four of the stouts in the Seasonal Stout series, this campfire beer will be released in cans, and distributed in all of Ska’s markets.
