Another fresh hop...

Left Hand Warrior IPA...$5.69 / 22oz
Warrior IPA with Colorado Fresh Hops
"The vibrant aromatics and flavors that are derived from the use of exuberant amounts of fresh flower hops are what helps create and set apart this most unique beer. New this year (besides the kick-ass new logo) is the fact that 100% of the Fresh Hops are grown right here in Colorado – from Rising Sun Farms in Paonia, CO (there are a few other varieties from our hop farm here @ the brewery, as well as from local growers right here in our area, but the majority are Cascades). We use Warrior hops for bittering, and Goldings for dry hopping. True to our fundamental belief system, the strong hop character is balanced by a strong malt foundation, allowing for an approachable, drinkable IPA that finishes amazingly clean. The beer is full-bodied, bronze in color, and tips the scales at 6.6% alcohol by volume and 60 IBU’s. Available in 22 oz. bombers and kegs. Modern Brewery Age’s December 2007 edition said “Warrior IPA takes no prisoners. It slays lesser brews…superb in every respect.” -- Left Hand

We are excited to anounce the arrival of duganA

Avery DuganA IPA...$6.99 / 22oz

Bottled October 22, 2009
Rated 99/100 RateBeer
-- The latest edition to the great Avery IPA lineup.

A truly transcendental hop experience
Boulder, Co – After two years of experimentation, numerous test batches and countless tasting sessions, Avery Brewing Company is proud to announce the release of their much anticipated duganA IPA. Brutally bitter, dank, piney and resinous, this 8.5% abv monster offers a mystical and divine hop experience with 93 IBUs of hop goodness.
In the summer of 2007, as fervent devotees of hops and preachers of the profound art of the IPA, we found ourselves in the pleasant dilemma of wanting an IPA to drink that was somewhere in between Avery IPA and The Maharaja Imperial IPA. Enlightened, a test batch commenced immediately, and our two-year quest to create a truly transcendental hop experience was born.
“duganA IPA stemmed from our need for a more sessionable version of The Maharaja Imperial IPA. We wanted to capture the huge hop flavor of Maharaja and package it in a form that could be drank with more regularity” said Adam Avery, President and Brewmaster of Avery Brewing. He added, “many in the beer community will say that the world doesn’t need another IPA, but by putting our heads, palates and creative minds together, we were sure that we could make a very positive addition to our quiver of IPA’s and build progressively on what is available in the market. I think we did just that with duganA. We’re just beer lovers who can’t stop ourselves from making new beers. Quest is a bit cliche, but yes, that’s the only way to describe it: a maniacal quest for hop perfection.” -- http://www.thefullpint.com/

The wait is over...Van Twee

Here is a look at the label and the description:

De Proef (Belgium) collaboration with Bell's Brewery (Michigan)  Van Twee has arrived.

Van Twee Belgian Ale....$14.99 / 750ml
- Dark Belgian Ale Brewed with Cherry Juice

John Mallet - Bell's Brewery
Dirk Naudts - De Proef Brouwerij

"Ingredients and techniques from two different areas come together to produce the beer in this bottle. Van Twee (From Two) is the remarkable result of a collaboration between two breweries known for extreme innovation: Bell's Brewery of Kalamazoo, MI and De Proef Brouwerij of Lochristi, Belgium.
Special emphasis was placed on using ingredients from both Belgium and Michigan in designing this beer. Michigan is renowned for producing sour, dark cherries of superior quality, and a significant quantity of cherry juice was added to the brew. Deep hued Belgian candi sugar adds to the complex flavor of the beer. The sugar used for bottle conditioning came from native Michigan sugar beets. A finishing fermentation with the vinous Brettanomyces strain of yeast complements the unique New Zealand hop variety Nelson Sauvin.
The result is broadly a cherry infused 'mash-up' of the Porter and Dubbel styles, brewed to an original gravity of 1.072 and fermented with multiple strains of yeast. Each ingredient used brings a subtle hint of varied fruit such as plum/prune from the roasted malts; gooseberry/grape from the hops' pear/banana from the yeast and specialty sugar; and of course cherry. These flavors are wrapped in a rich and complex roasted malt base that imparts flavors reminiscent of chocolate and coffee-much like the famous filled chocolates of Belgium.
We hpe you enjoy drinking this beer as much as we enjoyed making it for you." -- label

"Les Deux Brasseurs 8.5% abv. Our Brewmaster, Jason Perkins had the honor of traveling to Belgium in early March to collaborate on Les Deux Brasseurs with Dirk Naudts of De Proef Brouwerij. Les Deux Brasseurs meaning The Two Brewers; represents the joining of two cultures. Les Deux Brasseurs is a Golden Ale fermented with two strains of Brettanomyces. Our Brettanomyces, discovered and isolated at our location was flown in fresh for this special occasion. With Dirk’s favorite strain of Brettanomyces, the beer was brewed using Pilsner Malt and a small amount of Torrified Wheat. The Golden Ale was then hopped with German Hallertau and fermented and aged for four months. In the course of the brew it was dry hopped with Czech Saaz. The result is a beer of remarkable character with significant fruit tones, including; pear, apple and pineapple. This beer also produces the flavors of graham cracker, barnyard character and is rounded by an herbal spicy hop finish." -- Allagash Brewery

New Samuel Smith...

Samuel Smith Yorkshire Stingo....$10.99 pint

History

Stingo, traditional strong ale originating in the north of England, is mentioned in literature before 1700. Samuel Smith's Stingo melds the fine history of this style with the signature elegance of the brewery. Brewed from British malt and multiple hop varieties, Stingo is fermented in open-topped stone "Yorkshire Squares," with the Samuel Smith ale yeast strain. It is then aged for over a year in oak barrels that previously held cask-conditioned ale, gaining complexity and depth from the wood. Bottle conditioning - bottling the beer with live yeast for carbonation - produces soft conditioning as well as a fruity aroma and finish; it also allows Stingo to age and develop in the bottle for many months.

Rich, deep, flavors of toffee, raisin, dried fruit, caramel; waves of flavor ascend and ebb leaving soft oak notes. Bottle conditioning creates elegant conditioning and satisfying fruitiness.

Stingo is a wonderful digestif when served alone, and also pairs well with beef, wild game, or demanding deeply-flavored foods. Try with strong aromatic cheese, pickled fish, cured meats, duck, or Kalamata olives. Serve at 55 degrees in a small nonik, or serve in a stemmed wineglass.

Twelve 18.7-ounce "Victorian Pint" bottles.

Fraoch Heather Ale 20th Anniversary....$15.99 / 750ml

History of Fraoch "A long time ago, in a home brew shop not too far away……..
A lady of Gaelic decent came into the Williams owned homebrew shop in Partick, baring a translation of a 17th century recipe for “Leanne Fraoch” (Heather Ale), Inherited from her Gaelic family. It was her goal to try to recreate recipe made famous by the old legend of
the Pictish king who supposedly through himself off a cliff after the English king captured and tortured his son in an attempt to coax the recipe from the Pict King. This translated recipe was developed in homebrew size quantities by shop owner Bruce Williams to the recipe that is used today.

The company started life in 1988 with Bruce brewing our flagship beer Heather Ale, in a tiny brewery in Taynult, where we could producing no more 5 barrels per batch, just
enough to supply 5 pubs across Scotland; 2 in Edinburgh, 2 in Glasgow  andThe Clachaig Inn in Glencoe. As demand grew the project expanded  and a bigger brewery was needed to brew the larger quantities required. So the recipe was taken to the old Maclay’s brewery in the traditional Scottish brew town of Alloa. Along with Heather Ale, 4 other historic Scottish ales were developed using natural Scottish produce such as elderberries, the shoots of Scots pine, seaweed  and gooseberries. In 1998 the Heather Ale brewery moved its production of cask ales and office to Craigmill outside Strathaven where we remained for 6 years before taking over the New Alloa Brewery at Kelliebank, Alloa, where we are the last remaining brewery in the old Scottish brew capital.

"Fraoch celebrates 20 years of brewing this very special limited edition, 11% alc/val, triple version: matured in ex-sherry casks previously used to mature single malt speyside whiskey for 20 years. The resulting ale has a unique oak / sherry / whisky character, which is best appreciated slightly chilled in a large wine glass. Slainte!" -- label

A rare one from Macallan....

Glen Taite 19 year old....$99.99

Macallan Distillery

The Highlands have a few different sub regions and styles- this one is considered a Speyside by location and style/profile. Macallan uses smaller pot stills that are directly fired (read fire under the still- not steam coils or jackets) and slow distillation to make it's whisky. This is also probably one of the few whiskies left that used 100% Golden Promise barley (a more expensive, lower yield, barley but resulting greater weight and taste to the malt) and five different yeast strains - a practice that stopped in the mid 1990's, making such Macallan Whiskies an endangered species that should be hunted to extinction by those who care about such things." -- spiritsreview.com

"Deep golden amber color. Complex and subtle aromas of soda bread, anise cookie, melted butter, leather, praline, and lilacs follow through on a soft, silky entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with toffee, golden raisin puree, candied ginger and pepper spice. Finishes with a zesty, peppery dried citrus, white chocolate and mossy river stone fade. An impressively elegant and articulated single malt. (tasted on Apr-16-2009)"
