2014 Puydeval - WOW

New Vintage has arrived!

Wine of the Week = taste it today from 11am-3pm at all for locations
We will have a special price today!

One of our best selling red blends
Every time we sample this wine, we sell a ton of it.  Why?  Because it is just that delicious.  It is an unknown wine, but the quality is in the bottle!

2014 Puydeval Red Blend....$14.99
Made from 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon,
A distinctive blend crafted by winemaker Jeff Carrel, Puydeval is based on Cabernet Franc, which thrives in the cooler microclimates of the generally hot Languedoc region of Southern France. This iconic, eponymous, and admittedly unusual wine has quickly gained a fervent following for its originality and for delivering outstanding value.   Big, rich, concentrated and intense. A ripe, polished and well-balanced wine, offering spicy aromas of black cherry and blackberry, with hints of anise, and just a touch of earthy character.
Serve With: A truly original red, it will complement most meals, especially pizza, elaborate burgers, grilled portabella mushrooms or lamb kabobs.

The Wine and Cheese Place has an exciting
release from Perennial coming this week!

Back in 2012 we released the first version of this beer.  It was one of our first Barrel Aged Beers we did with a local Missouri brewery.   In fact, I think it might have been Perennial's first barrel aged release.   We are so excited they decided to do another batch.  They released some at the Brewery during Craft Beer Week, but if you missed out, we have it coming too.  It will be released through our BRC.

Perennial Devil's Heart of Gold
Wheat Wine Style Ale aged in bourbon barrels

The name "Devil's Heart of Gold" comes from what they call the "Devil's Cut".   When a bourbon ages in a barrel, a portion of the bourbon evaporates - this is called the "Angel's share".   Another portion of the bourbon gets absorbed into the new oak barrel -- this is called the "Devil's cut".    Therefore, the Heart of Gold beer aging in the barrel starts to absorb back some of the Devil's Cut and hence the name "Devil's Heart of Gold".

New Red Burgundy at our ROCK HILL location

Our Rock Hill location (9755 Manchester Road 63119) just got in a load of Burgundy.  Check it out now

2010 Faiveley Chambolle Musigny AC...$84.99
A beautiful, brilliant garnet-red colour. The nose is very pretty with woody and fruity notes. The whole is very pleasant. On the palate, we find grilled and fruity, very ripe cherry aromas. The tannins are present without being too intrusive or aggressive. An elegant wine, fine and pedigreed.  This wine is just starting to drink beautifully.  Chambolle opens up after about 6 years in the bottle.

2012 Meo Camuzet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillas....$169.99
From 40 year old vines in the northern part of NSG. A frank, intense wine, with aromas of fresh fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant). There is much silkiness on the palate and a very long finish dominated by acidity.
Good dark, saturated red. Cool aromas of raspberry, red cherry and minerals. Juicy and tangy on the palate, with a slight tartness to the crushed red berry flavors. More about perfume than body. The tannins are a bit dry but I like this wine's pungent red fruit character. -- Stephen Tanzer
Rated 89-91/100 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media

2012 Georges Lignier Gevrey Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru...$119.99
1er Cru, but Grand Cru quality.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes: A single 0.41 hectare parcel is the source for this wine, which offers a depth and complexity that speaks of the Grand Crus encircling this prime vineyard site. The vines are between 55 and 60 years of age. This formidable lieu-dit provides us with a sturdy wine with plenty of material, a darker robe and significantly more forceful structure. Aged for 18 months in small barrels, approximately one-third of which are new.

2013 Faiveley Mercurey Clos Myglands 1er Cru...$41.99
The name of this Premier Cru, which is a monopole or single estate vineyard of Domaine Faiveley, probably comes from the English ‘My Lands’, the name given to this site by an English dignitary.  The nose sets aromas of black and red fruits against a woody and smoky base. The same greedy, fruity flavours are found on the palate. This wine is well structured with beautiful volume and velvety tannins. All the elements blend together harmoniously giving a silky and hearty wine.

2012 Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru...$182.99
A beautifully complex and airy nose features ripe aromas of exuberantly spicy plum, violet, sauvage and essence of red currant. There is a very round and velvety mouth feel to the delicious medium weight flavors that somehow manage to retain a good sense of delineation and energy on the overtly mineral-inflected and wonderfully long finish. I very much like the sense of harmony where the fine-grained tannins add to that impression. This should be excellent in time though note that it will require a minimum of 10 years of cellar time before this is approachable and another 5 to 7 before it arrives at its peak.
Rated 92-95/100 Burghound
Raetd 92-94/100 Wine Advocate
Rated 92-94/100 Tanzer

2012 Vincent Girardin Santenay "Terre d'Enfance"....$28.99
Girardin is famous for their Santeany - this one is 100% from 60+ year-old vines. Deep color. Red fruits on the nose, more ripe than the previous wines. Earthy, soil components and toasty nuts on the nose. Thick, dark chocolate on the palate, has quite a kick. Very raisined smoke notes. Good richness and balance.   A lush mid-palate. Loaded with coffee and tobacco on the finish

94 Point Tuscan!!

A silky and refined red with currant, berry, mineral and dried flower aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, flavorful and delicious. A blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Drinkable now but better in 2017.

Funkier Pumpkin

In stock now at Forsyth
Rock Hill - should be there any minute
Ballwin this afternoon
New Ballas this afternoon

Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin...$11.99 / 750ml

Style: Spiced Sour Ale
Never content with brewing "to style," our brewing team's approach to Funkier Pumpkin is far from your standard take on pumpkin spice beers. Choosing to focus on the complexity that brettanomyces can bring to a beer, Funkier Pumpkin offers subtle pumpkin flavor accented by traditional spicing in a beer that showcases the hallmark earthy/forest floor notes of our house wild yeast strain.

Boulevard Funky Pumpkin Spiced Sour...$8.99 / 6 pack
Style: Spiced Sour Ale
Our entry in the very popular pumpkin ale market is an eccentric one, with pumpkin flavor scarcely present, upstaged by cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and ginger. Brewhouse souring lends a subtle, pleasant tartness putting the "unk" in "funky."

Garrison Brothers Straight Bourbon Whiskey...$65.99
"This is a whiskey for people who love their whiskey strong. It’s got an aggressive kick that delivers powerful aromas on the nose of wood and vanilla. There’s a good amount of heat when you drink it as well, but we would expect nothing less from a whiskey made in Texas. It’s a very interesting whiskey that is well worth your time."
7 OF THE BEST CRAFT BOURBONS YOU HAVE TO TRY RIGHT NOW - Vine Pair

We just chose our own Single Barrel of Garrison today.  Said it should arrive in October.  Will update when it does.  We picked a 4 year old and it was delicious with a great nose of vanilla, coffee and some spice.  We tasted it at 130 proof, but it will be brought down to 94 proof (due to Texas state law, they eventually hope to sell us barrel proof).

New from Seattle Washington
Holy Mountain The Goat...$14.99 / 750ml
Foudre Aged Rustic Brett Saison
The Goat is a rustic farmhouse ale brewed with barley, rye, oats, and wheat. Fermented with a mixed culture in an oak foudre, where it continued to age for 3 months. Soft, dry, and funky with a very mild acidity and strong minerality, The Goat is a balanced, classic Saison with notes of rye, vanilla, fruit, and oak. Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces

New Prairie Artisan Ales

Prairie Artisan Ales Ace...$8.49 / pint
For some time now, the talk has been about Prairie Ace and all things associated with the word Ace, disc golf, and how beautiful Sorachi Ace hops truly are. Prairie Ace is a dry hopped farmhouse ale, with a lot of attention to detail. When you crack one of these open after a long walk around a disc golf course, you will raise your glass in celebration of not only your disc throwing prowess but the vibrant hoppy brew before you. Prairie Ace takes the dry hopped saison style and adds house made candy sugar. I know what you’re thinking, but before you start thinking about candyland and disc shaped gumdrops, hear me out. When you get a hold of your Ace, you’re going to notice the citrus element. This lemon/lime punch is the right amount of bite that is kept in check by the addition of the candy sugar that creates the perfect dry base.

Prairie Artisan Ales "Berliner" Weisse...$8.99 / 4 pack
You might have previously enjoyed our next release, Prairie Weisse. This beer was too good to keep locked away in a keg. Our Prairie Weisse is a sour wheat beer in the style of a berliner weisse. Love sours? Never met a sour you liked? Prairie Weisse is for you either way. It’s light and crisp with enough sour to get those taste buds jumping, but not enough to lock your jaw. The malty follow up after the sour hit makes this brew approachable for those new to the sour game.

New Burgundy at our Rock Hill Location

Some new White Burgundy
at our Rock Hill location

2012 Pierre Matrot Meursault Charmes...$83.99
A rich, round version, this delivers spice-accented peach and melon flavors, with good cut underneath. Tightens up on the finish, but should settle down in six months to a year. Best from 2017 through 2024. only 150 cases imported.
Rated 90/100 Wine Spectator

2012 Drouhin Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru...$99.99
The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres is a little subdued on the nose at first. But it unfurls to offer hints of chalk dust, gravel and citrus peel. The palate is well-balanced with a confident, spice-tinged opening. There is good weight and presence in the mouth here with traces of orange zest and mango, building all the time until it fans out on the finish. It just needs to develop more intensity on the nose to “complete the package” as it were.
Rated 90-92/100 The Wine Advocate

2014 Billaud Simon Chablis Villages...$27.99
The 2014 Chablis Villages from Domaine Billaud-Simon has a more floral bouquet than its peers with peppermint scents subtlety interwoven into the citrus and green apple aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity. This just feels natural and harmonious, the finish just flowing across the mouth with requisite tension and mineralité for a Chablis. This constitutes an excellent Chablis Village.
Rated 90/100 The Wine Advocate

2013 Marc Colin Chassagne Montrachet Champ Gains 1er Cru...$79.99
The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Champs Gain has an entrancing bouquet in the making, one not unlike the Chenevottes, but here with light brushes of lemon sherbet and even marmalade - a little more exotic perhaps. The palate is precise and citric, likewise driven by the acidity that lends this so much tension and race. It gradually builds in the mouth toward a very harmonious, animated finish. The Champ Gains is one of the domaine’s best Chassagnes in 2013.
Rated 92-94/100 The Wine Advocate

2014 Christian Moreau Chablis Valmur Grand Cru...$87.99
The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur about an equal blend of barrel and tank, was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose, though underneath one can detect the uncompromising granite and flinty scents waiting to take center stage. The palate is a little more rounded in texture than the Vaudésir: very good intensity with orange zest and a touch of apricot toward the elegant and poised finish. This is a class act and another great grand cru '14 from winemaker, Fabien Moreau.
Rated 93-95/100 The Wine Advocate

2014 Olivier Leflaive St Aubin 1er Cru Blanc...$49.99
If you like Chassagne Montrachet, try this 1er Cru St. Aubin.  Located on the slopes of Chassagne-Montrachet, this region is based on white and very calcareous soils. The steep slope generates early maturity.  All hand harvested Chardonnay. Full nose, ripe apple, vanilla, enhanced with dried fruit notes, it reveals a full and rich palate with a discreet acidity that gives it a nice finish.

Excel Forbidden Island and Wicked Expensive Sour

Excel Brewing Forbidden Island....$7.49 / 22oz
Double IPA brewed exclusively with New Zealand hops.

Excel Bruja Pumpkin Aged in Tequila Barrels...$17.99
An Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice, and then aged in Añejo Tequila barrels.

Excel Wicked Expensive Sour Ale...$7.49 / 12oz
Ale brewed with Blackberries and Raspberries.   Brewed with aged hops and over a pound of fruit per gallon.  This ale is fruity, tart, refreshing and slightly skunky.  It's wicked good.

Tallgrass BA Vanilla Cinnamon Buffalo Sweat

Tallgrass Barrel Aged Vanilla Bean and Cinnamon Buffalo Sweat...$12.99 / 4pk
We took our highly popular winter seasonal, Vanilla Bean Buffalo Sweat, aged it in bourbon barrels and enhanced it with crushed cinnamon sticks during fermentation.

Tasting notes: Prominent vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate and espresso flavor and aroma; creamy sweetness of milk sugar; dark-roasted barley; and warm bourbon undertones from oak barrel. Delicious, rich cinnamon graham cracker in liquid form.
