Thomas Morey 1er Cru Santenay Grand Clos Rousseau

2012 Thomas Morey 1er Cru Santenay Grand Clos Rousseau...$44.99
Santenay 1er cru Grand Clos Rousseau"Grand Clos Rousseau" an enclave of the "Clos Rousseau" appellation is the most southerly of Santenay's 1er crus and lies next door to the Maranges vineyards. It most probably derives its names from a former proprietor named - or nicknamed - Roussot ("Carrot-top").

History
Our family's plot covers 0.41 ha, purchased in 1978 and growing vines planted in 1974.

Terroir
This fine parcel of vines lies on a gentle, even slope at a height of 250-280 metres and enjoys excellent insolation. The brown clay-limestone soil is quite light and stony - ideal for vine-growing.

Tasting
Year after year, the harvest from this plot has been of exceptional quality- shot berries with concentrated sugars and aromatic components. The wine is always well-rounded. The colour is brilliant and dark, almost black. Its aromas are of violets, gooseberry, black cherry and stewed fruit, reflected in a complex palate with a smooth, intense and well-built attack. In the mouth, dense and concentrated notes of ripe fruit are highly present in the finish, suggesting a similarity to the wines of the Côte de Nuits. This wine will delight the palate of discerning drinkers after a few years of careful laying-down.

Leopold Raffin Coganc XO Meursault Finish

Leopold Raffin started making cognac in 1889, but it is unfortunate that we have heard that they have gone bankrupt and are no longer producing. We have some left of this amazing Cognac.

Leopold Raffin Coganc XO Meursault Finish....$79.99
Was $129.99 - we bought the last 15 bottles on closeout.  No longer being made.
Bottled in 2015
A blend of 30 cognacs from the finest crus comprise the fabric of our XO. It spends at least a decade in Limousine oak and is marked by a bouquet of caramelized peach, toasted almonds and candied fruit with spices, vanilla, chocolate and baked apple showing on the palate. Our XO then spends a final 6 months in a Meursault cask a vessel that has aged sweet Meursault wines produced from the Chardonnay Beaune Subregion of the Burgundy area. This second wood finish adds rich spicy flavours, toasted almonds, layers with a richness of creamy toffee notes and traces of oak and depp vanilla.

TWCP exclusive Barrel Age Beer updates

Barrel Aged Beer Updates - we have a lot of barrels scheduled to hit this year. Some amazing Barrel Aged imperial stouts from some amazing local breweries

Narrow Gauge Barrel Aged Beer Update: we have three barrels of stout that have been in barrel since January of 2017, still ageing comfortably.  Jeff says they are coming along nicely, but still will be awhile before release.

Logboat Brewing Barrel Aged Beer Update: A few barrels if Imperial Stout that have been in barrel about 9 months. They feel they are ready to be released in the next few months. The plan right now is to bottle them as separate beers. But that could change if they decide to blend the barrels into one beer.

Perennial Barrel Aged Maman Imperial Stout - TWCP Edition - Going to be a two barrel blend (Four Roses and Wild Turkey) that has been aging for an amazing 28 months! "They took awhile to come around (28 months!), but I think you’ll agree it was worth the wait." - Phil Wymore, owner and headbrewer of Perennial. Very exciting though as they are working on the labels now.    It is ready to be bottled!!   This will go through the BRC - at least partially based on Perennial support.

Six Mile Bridge Brewing - we have a number of barrels ageing there right now. Too soon to announce what is going on yet.

Side Project Updates!

Exciting news!
Thank you so much to Cory and Karen King!

Side Project Merci #4

Blending Session with Cory King at Side Project!!

Amazing chance to taste Side Project beers from the BARREL and help to decide the next Merci blend!  Really a very special treat!   We are honored to be able to get this beer and help do the blend under the guidance of Cory.   We did this last year and it was a great experience.

Sometime in June we will be doing a blending session at Side Project for the new batch of Merci with Cory King!

Cory has graciously allowed us to bring 10 of our customers with us to taste from barrel at Side Project.

The blending session will be in June sometime - date to be announced.

So the top 10 BRC customers based on beer purchases will be invited to the event.  If they cannot attend, we will go down the list until we have 10 people.
It will be based from January 1, 2018  through probably about mid May to give us time to invite people and have them save the date.

Update - D8 is still coming.  Be patient, will announce when we have a date.    It will be super limited - we are getting about 48 bottles only.
This one will go based on beer support from the last 6 months before the release date.
Here is the rough plan -

  • Top 35 beer supporters will be allocated a bottle.
  • Then 10 bottles will go via weighted raffle to the top 100 (those that did not already get a bottle - so 36-100 will have have a chance also to purchase a bottle.).   Whatever #100 spent in the last 6 months that amount will count as 1 raffle ticket and each person from 100-36 will get as many raffle tickets based on their purchases.
  • Will save 3 for something later, not sure what yet.

Side Project D8
Derivation is our series of Barrel-Aged Imperial Stouts in which we brew several recipes, age them in a variety of barrels and blend them before bottling to add depth and structure to this massive style of beer.

Blend: #8 | ABV: 15%

Blend #8 is a select blend of barrel-aged stouts that were aged for 1 to 3 years before being blended and infused with coffee, coconut and vanilla.

Altovinum Evodia -- Great Value!

Another amazing wine and incredible value from our good friends at European Cellars

2016 Altovinum Evodia....$10.99
Another project between Eric Solomon and the Roussillon’s Jean-Marc Lafage, the 2016 Evodia comes from higher elevation vineyards and is mostly Garnacha (there’s 5% Syrah) aged in a mix of tank and demi-muids. This deep ruby/purple colored is a gorgeous, naked expression of Grenache that just knocks it out of the park. Blackberries, blueberries, pepper, licorice and hints of asphalt all emerge from this plump, sexy, opulent, and shockingly concentrated wine that has incredible charm and character. It’s the best 10-dollar bottle of wine I've tasted in years.

Perennial Sump Coffee Stout

Sump Coffee Stout

Perennial Sump Coffee Stout..$18.99
Sump combines an imperial stout of substantial weight with bright and delicate Colombian Los Pinos coffee selected and roasted especially for us by Sump Coffee, located in south St. Louis city. Aromas of coffee, salted caramel, and a hint of cedar meld with roasted barley, cocoa, and vanilla. On the palate the vanilla is more prominent, rounding out the beer's heavy roast and chocolate character. It's thick and lush with a long finish and lingering warmth.
This is a 10% ABV stout that uses the same base beer as Abraxas.

Clos Erasmus 2015 has arrived!

Clos Erasmus does it again, another perfect 100!

We purchased 21 bottles initially and only 9 bottles left!
2015 Clos Erasmus Priorat $164.98

The 2015 Clos Erasmus has a similar level of purity to the 2013, yet is a riper, sexier wine that has an incredible voluptuousness and depth on the palate that’s hard to believe. Kirsch, blackberries, cassis, graphite, liquid rock, dusty earth, and violet characteristics all emerge from this sensational, full-bodied, expansive Priorat that has sweet tannin and a huge finish. While it’s a very different wine than the 2013, it’s just as perfect. The 2015 is 75% Garnacha and 25% Syrah, aged 20 months in 40% new French Taransaud barrels, with 5% in clay amphorae. There are roughly 250 cases produced and it’s a heavenly, singular wine to drink over the coming 15-20+ years. Hats off to winemaker Daphne Glorian!

Big Sky Shake A Day Limited IPA

Big Sky Shake A Day IPA...$8.99 / 6pk CANS
In Montana, we have a pastime bar game called shake-a-day. Each day at your favorite watering hole, you get one opportunity to throw fifty cents into a pot with hopes of rolling five of a kind and winning a pocket full of cash! This favorable risk to reward is our inspiration for brewing this aggressive, american style IPA. Brewed with pacific NW and Australian hop varieties, bright aromas and resinous pine dominate the palate. The clean, well-attenuated finish has enough body to leave you wanting another roll of the dice.

Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA

Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA...$11.99 / 6pk cans
also sold as single cans at ForsythThe story of Lupu-Luau began when Sam was hanging outside with coworkers during an overly-sunny day. One present coworker in particular was lacking heavily in the melanin department, to put it lightly. A friendly joke about a total tan aversion led to this legendary comment, “You can say it, Sam, I’m pale as f**k.” The brewer in Sam thought that would make a cool name for a super pale beer. From there the wheels started turning and the iterative R&D process began.

Sam set out to make a hazy, overly pale, beer but the test batches weren’t quite there yet. However, during that process, he found out how great coconuts work in an IPA and decided that the new goal was to make an IPA using as much coconut as possible. We started with a combination of Pils malt with flaked barley, rolled oats, and malted and raw wheat to get it all hazy. Then we introduced coconuts three ways by adding toasted coconut, dehydrated coconut water and an experimental hop variety that provides a unique coconut & woody aroma.

The result? A lupulin-loaded, coconut-centric ale. Our Lupu-Luau IPA!
