Michter's - back in stock and limited

Michter's Single Barrel US*1 Straight Rye....$39.99
Renowned for rye – America’s oldest whiskey variety – since the earliest days of our history, we take the production of Michter’s US1 Rye extremely seriously. Our Michter’s US1 Rye is made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximize the extraction of flavor from the grain. Ideal neat or in cocktails, every bottle of Michter’s US1 Rye comes from a single barrel – a unique attribute reflecting our extraordinary commitment to offering Kentucky Straight Rye whiskey of the absolute highest quality at every level of the Michter’s range.

Michter's Small Batch US*1 Bourbon.....$39.99
Michter’s US1 Bourbon is made from a carefully selected mashbill that features the highest quality American corn. It is then matured to the peak of perfection, with barrels often aging in excess of eight years. Truly “small batch,” each batch of our US1 Bourbon is typically composed of no more than two dozen barrels, leaving no margin for “blending out” imperfection and thus necessitating excellence from every barrel. Reflecting the spirit of the Bluegrass State, Michter’s US1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is nuanced, mellow, and earthy.

Michter's Small Batch US*1 American Whiskey....$39.99
Unlike Bourbon or Rye, which, by definition, must be aged in new oak barrels, our US1 Unblended American Whiskey is aged in a way that utilizes bourbon-soaked barrels to achieve a rich and unique flavor profile. In late 2013, Master Distiller Willie Pratt agreed to re-release our US1 Unblended American Whiskey after a nearly three-year absence from the market, deeming it “just right” and “the best it’s ever been.” Crucially, our US1 Unblended American Whiskey never contains grain neutral spirits – hence its “unblended” distinction.

Barone Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Riserva

2011 Barone Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Riserva....$26.99
Lowest price online is $29.99
The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is made of the same blend of grapes as the Brolio (80% Sangiovese with 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) except it sees 16 months of barrique and tonneaux instead of nine months for the base Chianti Classico. Barone Ricasoli is one of those estates that can work a hot vintage, and this wine is a case in point. The style is extracted and opulent, but the wine never feels heavy or jammy. Instead, you get pressed rose, dried spice, blue flower and balsam herb.

Trisaetum Pinot Noir - great prices and scores too

2012 Trisaetum Pinot Noir Coast Range Estate ...$29.99
Next lowest price on Wine-Searcher is $48.99

The 2012 Pinot Noir Coast Range comes from one of the coolest sites on both volcanic and sedimentary soils. The vines here were planted in 2005. Like the Wichmann, the nose is extremely well defined and pure with perfumed red cherry, cranberry and rose petal scents - perhaps more Burgundy in style, akin to a Vosne or Chambolle-Musigny. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is plenty of flesh and substance here, impressive depth with a caressing texture and richness on the finish. Excellent.

2012 Trisaetum Pinot Noir Estates Reserve...$49.99
Next lowest price on Wine-Searcher is $56.99 at Total Wine and More in MO.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Estates Reserve aims to showcase the attributes of all three vineyards and spends 18 months in French barrel, around 30 to 35% new. The nose is intense right from the start: dark cherries, wild strawberry and bergamot at first, hints of briar and fresh mint following behind. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin: dark cherries, black plum, a pinch of white pepper and a slight flintiness toward the finish. This is very nicely focused with just a touch of piquancy on the finish. Give it another 12-18 months in bottle and you will have a seriously fine Oregon Pinot Noir. Bravo.

2012 Chamisal Pinot Noir Edna Valley Estate....$19.99
Lowest price on Wine-Searcher is $29.95
Wildly expressive aromas include maple syrup-laced chamomile tea, root beer extract, wild raspberry and menthol. The palate continues the excellent array: red fruits with oregano, thyme, even basil, some sanguine flavors, some coffee. It would be a perfect companion to roasted pork or turkey, or anything that needs some extra spice.

Firestone Walker Sour Opal....$11.99 / 375ml
We’ve patiently waited for two years to offer you this exquisite ale! Sour Opal retraces its roots to the lambic cellars of the town of Brussels and the Senne River valley, in Belgium. This American “Gueuze” represents a spectrum of flavors from a traditional barrel aged sour ale, complete with aromas of aged cheese and a distinct earthy mustiness that can only be found in a well cellared barrel aged sour. The complexity and balanced flavors of Sour Opal can be attributed first to the crisp assertive tannic acidity of the Viognier barrels. Oak-derived flavors and aromas mingle with guava, passion fruit, pineapple and tart cherry notes. This beer rounds out with a crisp clean and quenching acidity as well as a mild grape fruitiness that is intensified by a higher carbonation level.

2015 Clos St Jean Chateauneuf du Pape V.V.... $99.99 / 1.5ltr
The 2015 reds from these two brothers are some of the gems in the vintage. Similar to the classic cuvée, except with another level of concentration and elegance, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes sports a deep ruby/purple color to go with classic, Provençal notes of black cherries, cured meats, toasted spice and garrigue. Full-bodied, elegant, seamless, yet stacked and pleasure bent, it will shine from the get go and cruise for a decade or more.

Super Rare Clos St Jean Magnums
2015 Clos St Jean CDP La Combe Fous....$224.99 / 1.5ltr
(2 Magnums Available)
The 2015 reds from these two brothers are some of the gems in the vintage. The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous is another sensational wine. Full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated and yet with the ever present elegance and finesse this cuvée always possesses, it offers layers of black raspberries, crème de cassis, white flowers, licorice and cured meat-like aromas and flavors. It will certainly be one of the top handful of wines in the vintage.
Rated 94-97/100 The Wine Advocate

2015 Clos St Jean CDP Duex Ex Machina
....$224.99 / 1.5ltr
(2 Magnums Available)
Deeper, more masculine, graphite-laced and structured, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Deux Ex Machina (60/40 Grenache and Mourvèdre) always shows a huge, meaty, roasted herb, kirsch and darker fruit profile. Like the other 2015s here, it shines for its purity, but this is a big, mouth-filling and unctuous beauty that’s both a hedonistic and intellectual turn on.
Rated 95-98/100 The Wine Advocate

2015 Clos St Jean CDP Sanctus Sanctorum....$459.99 / 1.5ltr
(1 Magnum available)
More upfront, decadent and unctuous, I suspect the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Sanctus Sanctorum (Magnum Only) will be a candidate for perfection once bottled. Made from a single parcel of old vine Grenache planted on the famed la Crau lieu-dit, this heavenly beauty is loaded with notions of blueberries, Provençal spices, crushed flowers, black raspberries and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, layered, already sexy and textured, with building, sweet tannin, if this doesn’t make your eyes roll back in your head, I don’t know what will.

Dom Perignon P2 Rose

1995 Dom Perignon P2 ROSE....$629.99

The P2 non-rose Brut we had in the fall was rare, the rose is even more rare!
Yes, it has spent 18 years on the lees before bottling
Packaged in a brushed aluminum box.
The just-released 1995 Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is stunning. Young, delicate and vibrant in the glass, the 1995 has it all; expressive aromatics, crystalline fruit and fabulous overall balance. Cranberry, mint, hard candy, cinnamon and dried rose petals are laced into the super-expressive finish. The 1995 P2 is sweet and layered, but with lovely veins of chalky minerality that give the wine its sense of energy. A delicate, floral finish rounds things out nicely.

What is Dom Perignon "P2" - click here to read the story by Forbes

Here are some highlights....

After frequent taste tests and analysis of older vintages held in the company’s library, going back to the very first one (1921), the current Chef du Cave since 1990, Richard Geoffrey, and his predecessors and colleagues, have made an interesting discovery. As it rest on the lees in the cellar, it does not improve steadily as might institutively be expected and as many wines do. Instead it remains relatively flat for years at a time and then when nature has had her ways, makes a quantum leap to a new quality plateau, where it again remains flat in terms of improvement for many years. Internally, the staff at Dom Perignon refers to these leaps as “plentitudes,” and have concluded that they occur just three times. The first plentitude takes about 7-9 years and results in the Dom Perignon most of the world knows, having made its first big improvement. The second happens after another 10 years or so, the third in another 10 years or so (these times are very subject to nature). After the third, there are no more leaps but rather a slow and steady improvement, at least up to the nearly 100 year point they are still trying. Dom Perignon that is not resting on its lees never experiences the second or third plentitude.

Light and zingy, with a refreshing tang to the raspberry, chocolate and floral flavors as they zip through a long, lively finish. Best from 2018 through 2024. 1,377 cases made.
Rated 92/100 The Wine Spectator
The 2014 Pinot Noir Bonnie Jean Vineyard, from vines on a former cherry orchard planted in 2006 and 2012, has a pleasant, chocolate-tinged bouquet with fine definition, the fruit here a little darker than some of Ken Wright's other 2014 vineyard offerings. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and soy tinged fruit, fine tannins, nicely composed with commendable persistence on the tart finish. It will drink well for 12-15 years.

Zeppelin Bend is a culmination of New Holland’s brewing roots and a growing passion for distilling. A straight-malt whiskey, it begins with a brewer’s mash coaxing sugars from malted barley into a liquid wash. This wash is twice distilled and aged in new American oak with a heavy char. Notes of vanilla and clove arise from the slightly caramelized spirit leading to a classic American-oak finish.

Glorious-crank-it-to-‘11’-cacophony is what happens when intense tropical fruit gets a flashpot addition of pyrotechnic heat from habanero. The result is a literal world tour, as three globe-trotting breweries collaborated on this immensely thunderous soundstorm of a beer.

Masters of brewing Beavertown (UK) and Garage Project (New Zealand) worked with us in San Diego to brew this double IPA with a power trio of kiwi, yuzu and habanero. Yuzu and habanero, sure, but who knew kiwi fruit could be so metal. Add in a colossal hop character to ride the lightning of the subtle but fiery heat. Hops, fruit, heat…And Juiciness For All.

Call up your mosh mates, crank up the tunes, throw this beer in the fridge and chill ‘em all.

Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

2014 Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate...$57.99
One of the many highlights in this range, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is terrific. The effects of the drought and resulting heat stress come through in the wine's structural feel and bold, incisive flavors. Even with all of its intensity, the 2014 has a certain silkiness in its tannins that makes it approachable today. Of course, the 2014 will be even better in another few years, but opening a bottle on the early side is not a crime. The 2014 spent 27 months in French oak. Readers who are looking for a more affordable alternative to Ridge's iconic Monte Bello should consider the 2014 Estate. Look for the Estate to be a real overachiever in 2014 as well as one of the best - possibly the best - California Cabernet in its price range.
