Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel

The next installment is here....

In stock  at Forsyth (should hit the other stores also today)
and online

Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel...$56.99 / 750ml
Colonel Taylor is widely considered one of the founding fathers of the bourbon industry, fighting for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, nearly three decades after he purchased the now Buffalo Trace Distillery. During his time, Taylor implemented several innovative methods still used today, such as climate controlled aging warehouses. In addition to his bourbon interests, Taylor had political ties. He was the great-nephew of President Zachary Taylor and elected the mayor of Frankfort, state representative to the Kentucky General Assembly and a member of the State Senate.

E.H. Taylor Single Barrel is aged exclusively in Warehouse C, which was built by Taylor in 1881 and proven to be an excellent aging warehouse. This bourbon whiskey is very delicate. The aroma carries lightly toasted oak, with dried figs and butterscotch. The sweetness on the tongue remains balanced with tobacco and dark spices that finish just long enough to prepare the palette for another sip. The bottle itself replicates Colonel Taylor's original design used over a century ago.

Avery Uncle Jacob's Stout....$9.99 / 12oz
"Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon". He built his distillery in Bourbon County Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before we began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacob's wash, we've instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present the robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! It's in our blood!" -- label

Avery Nineteen Belgian Style Tripel....$6.99
"Celebrating nineteen years of brewing could kind of get overlooked what with the big 2-0 coming. But we will never forget 2011! Not only was it our largest growth year ever, but we also began designing our new brewing facility! In excited anticipation of 20 years and the new brewery, we concocted this very traditional, yeast driven, dry and fruity Tripel. Thanks to those folks (you know who you are) who have been such an integral part of our longevity and success! Peace to all and follow your dreams!" - label

Black Tulip in 4 packs now

In stock at Forsyth
Now in 4 packs!!!

New Holland Black Tulip - Trippel Ale...$14.99 / 4pk

"Since the early 1600's the Dutch have attempted to breed a pure black tulilp. Many have tried, a few have come close, but none have succeeded. In honor of this elusive flower, the Holy Grail of the tulip world, we offer a special brew, Black Tulip Trippel." -- brewery

"Mysterious, alluring and seductive, yet tantalizingly elusive; these are the storied characteristics of the Black Tulip. Golden in color, Black Tulip Trippel is a delightful beer with a slightly sweet body. Its ester-laden character reveals an enigmatic dance between Belgian ale yeast and Michigan beet sugar, conjuring hints of bananas and rock candy. Its inviting flavor is complemented by a pleasing dry finish. Alc. 8.8% by Vol" -- brewery

Very Rare! Clos Erasmus

In stock now at Forsyth call 314.727.8788

Very limited -- only 6  bottles -- act fast!

2008 Clos Erasmus Priorat...$169.99  - SOLD OUT

Always a benchmark against which all other Priorats must be measured, the 2008 Clos Erasmus is a great success. It consists of 80% Garnacha, 15% Syrah, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 22 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color with an already complex bouquet of mineral, pain grille, Asian spices, tar, tapenade, and black cherry, on the palate it is dense, rich, and full-bodied with an elegance belying its size. Layered and opulent, it conceals enough structure to evolve for 6-8 years. It will deliver a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2028, perhaps longer. It is a true tour de force!

Rated 99/100 The Wine Advocate

Very Limited 18 bottles available
2009 Clos Erasmus Laurel...$49.99
The 2009 Laurel, tasted from a barrel sample, is a more masculine, brooding effort with aromas of minerals and black fruits that play it close to the vest. On the palate it has superb volume, great focus, impeccable balance, and a lengthy finish. In short, all the right stuff is present requiring only a bit of patience by those fortunate enough to find a few bottles.
Rated 94-97/100 The Wine Advocate

Very Limited only 12 bottles available
2008 Clos Erasmus Laurel...$46.99
The 2008 Laurel is purple in color with a nose of exotic spices that jumps from the glass. Included in the array are notes of mineral, tapenade, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense on the palate with a deft combination of power and elegance, this is a remarkably fresh effort due to the acidity level common in the 2008 vintage. Give it 2-3 years in bottle and drink it from 2013 to 2023.

94 Point Ridge Cabernet - Great Price!

2008 Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon...$34.99 / net
The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is compelling. Where to start? An expressive bouquet redolent of sweet herbs, tobacco and incense leads to a gorgeous tapestry of dark red fruit. The Estate is drop-dead gorgeous, with the silkiest of tannins that frame an extraordinary finish. This has to be one of the most compelling values in California Cabernet. In 2008 the blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Draper describes 2008 as the driest of the three drought years spanning 2006-2008. The 2008 is the first vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon, which used to be called Santa Cruz Mountains. In 2008 a spring harvest frost damaged much of the Merlot crop, so there was no natural outlet for the Merlot that had previously been used in the Santa Cruz Mountains bottling, but in 2009 there will be a new Merlot bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028.

From the creator of Orin Swift The Prisoner

2010 Shatter Grenache....$27.99

DAVE PHINNEY FOUNDED ORIN SWIFT CELLARS IN 1998, BUT IT WASN'T UNTIL 2000 THAT THE SUCCESS OF THE PRISONER, A ZINFANDEL BLEND, ENABLED DAVE TO FOCUS ON ORIN SWIFT CELLARS FULL TIME. THE MERCURY HEAD, VELADORA, SALDO, PAPILLON AND PALERMO LABELS SOON FOLLOWED, EACH LABEL DEMONSTRATING DAVE'S INTEREST IN ART AND HIS ABILITY TO CREATE SURPRISING, UNCONVENTIONAL BLENDS THAT CONSUMERS WERE WANTING. LOOKING FOR A NEW WINE PROJECT, DAVE VISITED MAURY IN THE ROUSSILLON REGION OF FRANCE IN 2008 AFTER HEARING ABOUT IT FROM A FRIEND. AMAZED BY THE AREA'S POTENTIAL, HE MADE HIS FIRST WINE, A GRENACHE BLEND NAMED D66, FROM THE AREA IN 2009.

2010 SHATTER GRENACHE
SHATTER, DAVE PHINNEY AND JOEL GOTT’S FIRST COLLABORATIVE EFFORT, COMES FROM THE SMALL TOWN OF MAURY IN THE ROUSSILLON REGION OF FRANCE. THE HILLSIDE GRENACHE VINES WERE PLANTED OVER 60 YEARS AGO IN BLACK SCHIST, A SLATE-LIKE, ROCKY SOIL COMMON TO THE AREA.  THOUGH NUTRIENT-POOR, IT RETAINS HEAT WELL, ALLOWING THE SLOW RIPENING  GRENACHE TO REACH FULL MATURITY THROUGH COOL NIGHTS.  TOUGH SOIL, STRONG WINDS AND HOT DAYS PUSH THE VINES AND CAUSE SHATTER, OR COULURE, IN THE GRAPE CLUSTERS, NATURALLY THINNING FRUIT FROM THE VINES AND PRODUCING MORE INTENSELY CONCENTRATED FLAVORS. AFTER HARVEST, THE FRUIT WAS COLD-SOAKED FOR 30 DAYS TO HELP FURTHER CONCENTRATE THE WINE, THEN FERMENTED AND AGED AT DAVE’S WINERY IN MAURY.
TASTING NOTES
A DEEP RED, NEARLY OPAQUE, HUE OF GARNET FILLS THE SIDES OF THE GLASS.  STUNNING AROMAS OF SUCCULENT DARK FRUITS AND RIPE CHERRY ARE NEATLY FRAMED BY SOFT FRENCH OAK. THE WINE HAS AN AMAZINGLY PURE ENTRY WHICH INSTANTLY COATS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE MOUTH AND LEADS INTO A SOFT MID-PALATE WITH REFINED ACID AND GREAT STRUCTURE. MATURE TANNINS ROUND OUT A LONG FINISH THAT LAST NEARLY HALF A MINUTE.

Dochter Oak Aged Peated Embrasse...$15.99 / 22oz
Rated 98 on RateBeer"In order to produce this beer "Embrasse", a dark all malt ale of 9% ABV, is matured for 3 months in Connemara whisky casks. The casks will be used only once, and then sent back to the distillery to put another whisky in for 6 years. The richness and all layers of flavours makes drinking this beer something else. This beer combines excellent with dried fruit and old cheeses. " -- Ronald Mengerink, brewer

Stillwater / Mikkeller - Two Gypsies

Stillwater / Mikkeller - Two Gypsies - Our Side...$10.99 / 750ml
Mikkel and Brian are two of the world's most unconventional brewers. By designing beers at various breweries around the globe, they have found the freedom to experiment and innovate, resulting in unique beers that often blur the lines of definition. After having met at a festival in Bodegraven, NL the two realized that their first creations both were called Stateside. It was then an obvious decision to make the two recipes into a new product, packed full of piney, resinous hops, and backed by the esters of a farmhouse yeast strain.

2010 Herman Story Tomboy Larner Vineyard....$39.99

79% Viognier, 29% Roussanne

301 Cases Made
TASTING NOTES:
The 2010 Tomboy is that really amazing day or two that you spent with your friend’s friend who was passing through town. Your friend was too busy to entertain, so he passed her into your care for the weekend. She was from a big city, savvy and exciting, but with an infectious laugh that put you at ease. The two of you hit it off, but she moved on and you never saw her again. The 2010 Tomboy is how you remember those few short days. Scents of pretty white flowers, lemon verbena, cinnamon, clementines, wet sidewalks and pink peppercorns. The palate has all the richness of those warm summer evenings and the subtleties of white tea, almond oil, laurel leaves and a cool, quartz-like minerality. Truly a wine to bring you back.

2010 Herman Story Syrah  Larner Vineyard...$41.99
65% Syrah, 35% Grenache
234 Cases Made

TASTING NOTES:
I know what you’re thinking; “what happened to the Larner Syrah and Larner Grenache? What’s up with this blend of the two?” Well, here’s the thing; I had every intention of making both wines, I really did, but as I was tinkering in the cellar I noticed that the blend was just better than either of the two wines alone. I’m not much of a stickler for rules, I’m just out to make the most exciting wines possible, so at the expense of doing a 10 year vertical tasting of Larner Syrah, I decided to go for what felt right. Think of it as cake and ice cream, both are pretty awesome, but put them together and, bam! you get al a mode. This is the best Sunday drive ever. It starts at home with smells of cranberry granola, ripe raspberry, coco dust, and cherry 7up, and moves into the country with scents of fresh lumber and cut hay, sassafras, orange blossom, bark and potting soil. The palate brings the drive back to the kitchen with flavors of chicory coffee, black pepper, rhubarb pie and hibiscus tea. Truly a journey worthy of a day.
(DRINK NOW: 2 Hr Decant, CELLAR: 6-8 years)

2010 Herman Story On The Road Grenache.....$41.99
444 cases made

TASTING NOTES:
More than any other varietal I work with Grenache reminds me of myself. It can be elegant and refined, or just as easily it can be a raucous party animal. Some people try to make it one or the other, but I think it’s best when you can get it to have a little of each. This year’s On the Road is just that, it’s got class and will doff its cap for the ladies, but won’t hesitate to start a brawl if needed. The wine’s got some serious muscle under that tucked in cowboy shirt. Smells like a fourth of July party by the pool: raspberry sorbet, fresh orange
zest, licorice, fresh rubber rafts, chocolate brownie batter and vanilla whipped cream. On the palate the 2010 On the Road does a cannonball off the high dive, bringing an explosion of brambly blackberry, pomegranate, oiled leather, cherry cola and charcoal briquettes all with teeth staining color, it’ll leave you soaked and smiling.
(DRINK NOW: 1 hour decant; CELLAR: 4-5 years)

2010 Herman Story Nuts And Bolts Syrah....$41.99
792 cases made
TASTING NOTES:
You know that old saying about the blind men and the elephant? About how one guy is touching the trunk of the elephant and thinks it’s a snake and the other guy is touching a leg and thinks it’s a tree? But because neither of them can “see” the whole animal they don’t know what it is? Well Nuts & Bolts always reminds me of that. There’s something about taking little pieces of a lot of different vineyards from Santa Barbara County to Paso Robles, that tells you more about the vintage in an instant than any single vineyard wine could. Nuts & Bolts is kind of like being able to see the whole elephant in that way, and this year is no different. The 2010 Nuts & Bolts has the intensity and intrigue I think 2010 will be known for. It smells like a highclass picnic in a redwood forest: smoked ribs, red velvet cake, chocolate covered cherries, cologne, caraway, violets and olive. The palate takes you on a hike deep into the forest, with juniper berries,
black tea, red licorice and rich tannins that hit you like a bear attack.

Orin Swift Papillon 2009 is here

SOLD OUT
2009 Orin Swift Papillon Napa Valley Red Wine...$53.99
For the past five years we have been making a Cabernet Sauvignon blend called Papillon. The fruit originates from some of Napa Valley's most celebrated appellations including Howell Mountain, Saint Helena, Rutherford, and Oakville. Choice vineyards such as Taplin and Morisoli were once again chosen because of their unique fingerprints. Marked with intensity and grip, we aim to showcase a wine that's as fitting as the label photographed by the renowned Greg Gorman, and hand model Vince Tofanelli - a 3rd generation grape grower and friend. Papillon takes flight upon release with aging potential up to 8 years.
Winemaker Notes

The wine has a very dense garnet hue with a slight stain of cardinal on the rim. Aromas of plum and cassis are built around soft French oak and cedar box nuances. The entry is intense, yet elegant with loads of boysenberry and dark fruit flavors. Well integrated tannin chains provide for a long, soft finish.

Dunn Howell Mountian 2002 !!!

We just received some 2002 and 2006
Howell Mountain from the Cellars of Dunn!

Very Limited - In stock at Rock Hill and Forsyth

"2002 was one of my favorite vintages of that decade...classic, quintessential California wines" -- Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate May 14, 2012

2002 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain...$112.99
Bright, saturated ruby-red. Vibrant nose offers cassis, minerals, gunpowder and spices. Densely packed but nicely delineated, with primary, fruit-driven flavors of blackcurrant and spices. Very juicy and suave but still quite youthfully unevolved. Finishes with firm but smooth tannins. This calls for considerably more patience than the Napa Valley bottling, but even today there's a pleasing pliancy of texture. This held up extremely well in the recorked bottle."
93/100 Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain exhibits an inky/blue/purple color along with a sweet perfume of pure blackberries, meat, new saddle leather, and flowers. From an unusually ripe harvest, this sweet, rich, fleshy offering displays more accessibility than many Howell Mountain vintages. Randy Dunn said it was important to drop crop, and he eliminated 40% of the fruit from the vines in both 2002 and 2001. The long, concentrated 2002 may not be the biggest Howell Mountain cuvee, but it will provide lovely drinking between 2009-2024.
91-93/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

2006 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain...$75.99 / 750ml
2006 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain...$151.99 / 1.5ltr
"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is big, dark and juicy. There is an element of wildness that runs through the wine. Graphite, licorice, tar and smoke are just some of the nuances that add complexity. The 2006 boasts superb purity from start to finish. Elements of fleshiness give the impression the 2006 might drink well relatively early, until the massive tannins set in. Floral notes add freshness on the finish. This is another fabulous wine from Randy Dunn. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036."
