Plantation Rum Isle of Fiji

Plantation  Rum Isle of Fiji...$22.99
AN ODE TO THE BEAUTY OF THE FIJI ISLANDS
From the pristine lagoons to the lush jungles, Plantation Isle of Fiji is an ode to the beauty of the Fiji Islands.
This delicious rum is made using traditional techniques and local Fijian sugar cane. First aged in this tropical climate in bourbon casks, the rum is then sailed to the southwest of France for a second maturation in French oak casks.
This double ageing method paired with Fijian know-how creates a rum with warm notes of exotic fruits and raisin.

2017 Castello di Ama Haiku Toscana

2017 Castello di Ama Haiku Toscana...$66.99
The Castello di Ama 2017 Haiku (a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in supporting roles) shows a rich and powerful center of gravity, all framed by lovely freshness and lots of rich fruit fiber. It sticks firmly to the palate with big fruit intensity, plum, blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. Haiku is a very unique wine within the context of Tuscany, and I'm not just referring to the unusual blend of grapes used here. This vintage offers darkness and a level of power that we don't usually associate with Tuscany. Yet, good context is given because the Sangiovese grape adds an authentic Tuscan touch and gives the wine a sense of place. A mere 6,000 bottles were made.

Domaine Delsol Picpoul de Pinet

We like the grape Picpoul and our customers like the grape Picpoul!
We have found another one that we think you will enjoy!

2018 Domaine Delsol Picpoul de Pinet...$14.99
100% Picpoul (one of the oldest indigenous Languedoc varieties)
TASTING NOTE: Domaine Delsol is a dry, light, refreshing wine. The nose is fruity and floral, with hints of rose petal and lime. In the mouth it is lively and fresh with well balanced acidity.
FOOD PAIRING: Ideal with shellfish, grilled fish and fresh cheeses.

More info about the estate...
Domaine Delsol is ideally situated along the Thau Lagoon in Montagnac in the newly formed Picpoul de Pinet AOC. The lagoon and Mediterranean breezes make the nights cooler than in other areas of the Languedoc. This and the high humidity create perfect conditions for growing Picpoul de Pinet. Domaine Delsol consistently produces a fresh, aromatic white wine with buoyant, ripe fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Apparently Hannibal and his elephants passed through what was to become the Domaine on their way to Rome, so elephants have become a kind of mascot for Delsol.

Maker's Mark & Cola Float
SERVES: 1
Legend has it that the Ice Cream Float was invented on a particularly hot Philadelphia day by a soda vendor who had run out of ice. This premium, grown-up version features Maker's® with its dark chocolate notes playing nicely against ice cream and cola.

What to get
  • 1 oz. Maker's Mark® Bourbon
  • 2 scoops vanilla bean ice cream
  • 4–6 oz. cola
  • 2 tbsp. chopped roasted peanuts

What to do
  • Add 2 scoops of ice cream to a frosted mug, followed by Maker's Mark® Bourbon.
  • Slowly add the cola and finish by sprinkling chopped peanuts.
  • Serve with a paper straw and spoon!

“Proprietress Isabel Ferrando has taken her Saint Prefert estate to France’s highest level, and she’s unquestionably making some of the most profound wines on earth today”-Jeb Dunnuck

2017 Domaine St. Prefert Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Auguste Favier...$69.99
Just about perfection in a glass, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Reserve Auguste Favier reveals a deep purple color as well as extraordinary notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, smoked meats, incense, and dried flowers. Always based on Grenache yet with 10-15% Cinsault, this full-bodied, deep, opulent Châteauneuf Du Pape tastes like the essence of Provence, is incredibly complex, has sweet tannins, and despite all its richness and depth, stays pure, fresh, and light on its feet. It’s one of the finest vintages of this cuvée to date!
Rated 99/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Silkier than either the regular cuvée or the Charles Giraud, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Auguste Favier delivers gentle spice notes of cinnamon, clove and allspice over ripe blackberries. Full-bodied, supple and long on the finish, it's a triumph of elegance in a vintage that leans more toward tannic force.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate
Juicy and youthfully compact, featuring a core of rolled-up plum, raspberry and blackberry paste flavors that should slowly unwind with time in the cellar, melding with the backdrop of roasted apple wood, licorice snap and sweet tobacco. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2035. 1,500 cases made, 300 cases imported.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Spectator
Bright violet. Ripe red berry, rose oil, Asian spice and incense scents, along with a smoky mineral nuance that builds slowly with air. Sappy, energetic and pure, offering palate-caressing raspberry preserve, cherry pie and floral pastille flavors that show a suave blend of depth and energy. Displays sharp delineation and floral lift on the impressively long, subtly tannic finish, which leaves behind notes of candied red berries and spicecake.

Evesham Wood - a store favorite!

Founded by Russ Raney (of St. Louis) in 1986, Evesham Wood is based on the idea that small is beautiful. To maintain a high level of quality, we rely on two basic principles: obtaining optimally ripe low-yield fruit from the best possible sites in the Willamette Valley, and using minimal intervention in the winemaking process. That approach is alive and well today, and is evident in every bottle we produce.

Evesham Wood Pinot Noir a Willamette Valley Institution
Evesham Wood Pinot Noir has been a long time store favorite, we can hardly keep the Willamette Valley bottling on the shelf. We have just received a small allocation of their 2017 Cuvee J and Les Puits Sec Pinot Noir, these are as good as it gets.

2018 Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir...$20.99
Even in a Pinot portfolio packed with value, this may top them all. Pinpoint balance spotlights spicy berry fruit, ripe and well-managed tannins, and surprising length. The herbal highlights are properly constrained, and the finish suggests that it could even age further for up to five years

2017 Evesham Wood Les Puits Sec Pinot Noir....$37.99
Bright scarlet color. Musky red and blue fruits, pungent flowers and a hint of succulent herbs on the perfumed nose. Bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors show appealing sweetness and building floral and spice topnotes. Finishes impressively long and floral, with a lingering cherry note and smooth tannins that sneak in late.
Rated 93/100 Vinous Media

One of the most sought after domestic Pinot Noirs
One of the greatest characteristics Russ finds in our proprietary yeast that he “isolated” from a bottle of 1986 Jayer Echezeaux (hence the name Cuvee "J") is the velvety texture it imparts on the wines.
  • certified organically grown
  • only 148 cases produced
2017 Evesham Wood Cuvee J Pinot Noir...$49.99
Brilliant ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark fruits, incense and potpourri, along with an exotic spice nuance and a touch of smoky minerality. Palate-staining black raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors show sharp delineation and deepen steadily as the wine stretches out. Smoothly plays richness off elegance and finishes impressively long and appealingly sweet, with sneaky, even tannins lending shape and grip.

Amrut Indian Single Malts

We have not seen these for a few years!
Back available at The Wine and Cheese Place

AMRUT Distilleries Ltd is the KING of INDIAN SINGLE MALT WHISKIES. It is best known for its eponymous AMRUT brand of single malt whisky, which is the first single malt whisky to be made in India.

The brand became famous after world famous whisky connoisseur Jim Murray gave it AMRUT FUSION a stellar 97.5 point rating in 2010. Murray named Amrut Fusion single malt whisky as the third best in the world and whisky heads began to turn.
John Hansell, editor of American magazine Whisky Advocate, wrote that "India's Amrut Distillery changed the way many think of Indian whisky - that it was, in the past, just cheap Scotch whisky blended with who knows what and sold as Indian whisky. Amrut is making whisky, and it's very good". Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky is crafted in Bengaluru India.

The core range of Indian Single Malt Whiskies includes Single Malt 46%, Cask Strength, Peated and Peated Cask Strength, whiskies to be enjoyed often.

CASKS : Amrut buys bourbon barrels from Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace and Jack Daniels. Amrut uses both American new oak and used bourbon barrels in it's aging process.

Amrut Indian Single Malt Cask Strength...$68.99
61.8% ABV

Nose : Classic house style with glorious bourbon notes fused with the richest of barley statements; not entirely unlike caramelised biscuit dunked in coffee; oh, and a bit of spicy attitude, too
Taste : There we go with that unique bitter-sweet overture where the oaks and barley appear joined at the hip; lovely soft oils and then a sharp jolt of blood orange citrus, which is removed by something more buttery and delicate
Finish : Long, elegant with the most intricate of fades with the oaks showing various bourbon then buttery characteristics; there is a trace of dark sugar and cocoa to help it along its way

Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky Peated ...$56.99
Nose : Unusually dry peat; not dissimilar to peat reek absorbed by an old leather armchair; a hint of citrus, too
Taste : Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molassed sugar and then a ratching up of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, so the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way
Finish : You can tell the quality of the distillate and the barrels it has been matured in by the crystalline depth to the finish. Everything is clear on the palate and the butterscotch vanillas wrap the phenols for a comfortable and clean finale

Amrut Indian Single Malt Peated Cask Strength...$79.99
62.8% ABV
Nose : Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a salted butter, peppered bite
Taste : The delivery is youthful and barely reaching puberty then suddenly an intensely malty ascendancy followed by a healthy dose of drier oaks
Finish : A sublime finale for its sheer delicacy and elegance; the peat no more than oozes, there are cups galaore of sugarless medium roast Mysore and finally, as a bourbony trail is discovered, soft liquorice and molassed sugar - easily the highlight of the experience: one of the best finishes of the year

Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky...$62.99
An incredible combination of 75% Cask Strength Single Malt and 25% Cask Strength Peated Single Malt, are further aged to create this multi-award winning whisky.
"One of the great whiskies found anywhere in the world" - Jim Murray - The combination of the two single malt whiskies is then further aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 6 to 9 months. The barley used in the peated malt is malted at Bairds Malt, Inverness Scotland. The intensity of the peated barley is mellowed on its journey to India. It is further mellowed when combined with the single malt, leaving a flavor that is more spicy than peaty, which is why it has won so many fans world-wide.
Amrut Fusion has won over 10 significant awards. Its first major recognition came in 2010 when it was named 3rd best Whisky in the World by the Whisky Bible and rated at 97.5 points. Besting nearly every Whisky on the earth that year put both Fusion and Amrut Distilleries on the whisky map.

Sun & Moon Cellars

Sun & Moon Cellars
Owned by three friends who call themselves “The Wine Artisans”. The three friends: Sébastien Gimenez, Karine Ambrosini, and Frédéric Corpel met at oenology school, and now have a combined 40 years of experience in the wine industry. After working for large wineries and coops, making wine, working in sales, etc., they decided to work for themselves.

Great new values in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
You are going to love these

2020 Sun & Moon Cellars Chardonnay...$13.99
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in Limoux.  Limoux is arguably the best terroirs for Chardonnay in the South of France. The area is protected from the Mediterranean heat by a mountain chain, and also gets a cooling Atlantic influence, ideal for Chardonnay. In this wine, 10% of the Chardonnay is aged in oak barrels, while the remaining 90% is aged in stainless steel.
This wine has a delicately perfumed nose with subtle tropical and fruit cocktail notes. In the mouth, stone fruit flavors of peach and apricot mix with sweet pear and citrus flavors. The finish is surprisingly mineral for a Southern French Chardonnay, leaving the palate refreshed and ready for the next sip.

2020 Sun & Moon Cellars Pinot Noir...$13.99
In this wine, 20% of the Pinot Noir is aged in oak barrels, while the remaining 80% is aged in stainless steel tanks. The wine is assembled, then allowed to rest on its lees in stainless steel tanks before a light filtration and bottling.
Tasting Notes: This is a soft, easy-drinking, Pinot Noir. In the nose, earth, spice, and herbs combine with aromas of red fruit. In the mouth, this wine has unmistakable Pinot Noir varietal character, with classic notes of dried cherries, plum, and subtle hints of oak in the background. This wine is ideal for white meats, like grilled pork chops, or dark fleshed fish, like tuna or salmon.

New vintages 2018!

2018 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Rouge...$11.99
Syrah 50%, Grenache 30%, Mourvèdre 10%, Marselan 10%
Tasting Notes: Château Virgile is a lush and concentrated example of a Costières de Nîmes. The nose is intense with black fruit aromas complimented with hints of garrigue spice. In the mouth the wine is dominated by dense black cherry flavors from the Syrah. The Syrah is complemented by hints of black pepper and red cherry notes from the Grenache. The Mourvèdre helps to provide the ripe tannins that give this wine its structure. Now, for the first time, the addition of Marselan, softens the wine, giving it a lush, juicy character. This wine is ideal for barbeque, grilled meats, or simply burgers on the grill. Enjoy!

Syrah Based Wine from 90 year old vines!
2018 Chateau Virgile Cuvee L'Eneide...$16.99

60% Syrah + 30% Grenache + 10% Mourvedre
Tasting Notes: The “Cuvée L'Éneïde really shows off the great terroir at Château Virgile. The vines, situated at the edge of a plateau, produce a very dark and concentrated Costières de Nîmes. The nose is intense with cherry and black raspberry notes. In the mouth the wine is dense with rich black fruit flavors complemented by hints of black pepper and garrigue. The wine finishes with ripe round tannins. This is a crowd-pleasing wine, that is an excellent complement to classic dishes, like steak au poivre. Enjoy!

2019 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Rose

The 2019 finally arrived - the last of the 2019s to be released!

2019 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Rose...$12.99
Grenache 80%, Syrah 20%

Technical Notes: The grapes are hand-harvested at night to preserve their freshness, and then 100% de-stemmed before undergoing a short 12-hour maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Beginning in 2009 Serge and Thierry have progressively increased the percentage of Grenache from 60% to 80%. The result is dramatic. Though they have always made elegant, balanced rosés, the wines have become increasingly perfumed and silky.
Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas of wild strawberry and red cherry dominate the nose of this beautiful rosé. The wine is bright pink with a tinge of fuchsia in the glass. The strawberry and cherry notes carry through to the mouth, where they are complemented with hints of red raspberry and refreshing minerality. Château Virgile produces a very versatile rosé, crisp enough to drink on its own, but flavorful enough for a meal

Mourvedre

"I know we have been posting a lot about the wines of Xavier Vignon lately and with good reason, they are fantastic. I wanted to take a moment to highlight one particular wine of his that I have found particularly compelling. Vignon's 2016 Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes is certified Agriculture Biolgique (the EU equivalent of Organic Certification) and while that alone sets it apart what really strikes me is the varietal breakdown on this amazing Cotes du Rhone. Featuring a much higher percentage of Mourvedre than most Cotes du Rhone, a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and the balance a mix of Cinsault and Syrah, Vignon's Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes offers a richness in flavor and mouth feel not found in wines in this price point, thanks of course to the lovely Mourvedre Grape. It was a perfect pair with a grilled Tri-Tip steak this past weekend. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
           -Aaron Zwicker

2016 Xavier Vignon Cotes du Rhone Rouge Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Organic...$19.99
A blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre and the rest Cinsault and Syrah, the 2016 Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Vieilles Vignes offers a gorgeous bouquet of cassis, blueberries, lavender, cured meats, and graphite. It's deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and has a great finish. The Mourvèdre keeps this tight and fresh, and I suspect it will age beautifully.
Rated 93/100 Jeb Dunnuck

Mourvedre
Some amazing wines made from Mourvèdre include Domaine Tempier Bandol Cuvée and Chateau de Pibarnon Bandol

Plus some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes...
Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape has 30% Mourvedre in the blend and their amazing "Tete de Cuvee" Hommage de Jacques Perrin can have up to 60% Mourvedre.

"The reliance on Mourvèdre makes the blend unique in Châteauneuf. "The Hommage à Jacques Perrin is an homage to Mourvèdre," says Marc Perrin, Jean-Pierre's son, who represents the fifth generation of Perrins to work at the estate, which the family bought in 1909....Hommage normally consists of 60 percent Mourvèdre, 20 percent Grenache, 10 percent Syrah and 10 percent Counoise. (The exception was 1998, when Grenache ripened beautifully and made up 60 percent, compared to 20 percent for Mourvèdre.)"
- -The Wine Spectator

Hommage a Jacques Perrin has scored a perfect 100 from The Wine Advocate 4 times and generally scores 98 or 99 points in the other vintages.  One of the greatest wines in the world is made from 60% Mourvedre
