Bottles produced: 412
Bottled April 2017
Cask Strength: 60.9%
Barrel 405Aged for six years in American Oak, ex-bourbon, and finished for ten years in French Oak, ex-red wine barrels. Bottled at cask strength. The Story New Zealand whisky evangelists and winemakers Warren and Deb Preston identified Oamaru’s historic Harbour Precinct as an ideal seaside climate for whisky maturation. Next, they did something profound. They decanted over 200 barrels of Dunedin distilled single grain whisky out of American bourbon barrels and into French oak NZ wine barrels. The Dunedin DoubleWood was born. Eight years on, The New Zealand Whisky Collection is proud to present The Oamaruvian – specially selected casks chosen for their rich toffee, floral nose and creaming soda mouth-feel with a hint of Oamaru sea spray to finish.
New Zealand Whiskey Co. Dunedin Double Wood 18 Year Old...$89.99 / 375ml A Master Blend of 70% single malt, and 30% premium grain whisky produced from unmalted barley in the Willowbank Distillery. Aged for 6 years in American Bourbon barrels, before finishing for 12 in French Oak NZ wine barrels, giving ruby colour, depth of character and long-lasting, rich flavours. The awesomeness of the Dunedin DoubleWood comes from the foresight of our predecessors, the Preston Family, to transfer a large number of six year old MasterBlended whisky from American Oak to French Oak ex-red wine barrels. The new barrels came from the North Island and previously contained New Zealand Pinot and Cab Sauv.
IRON MAIDEN AND ROBINSONS BREWERY REVEAL NEW ‘HALLOWED’ BEER British rock legends IRON MAIDEN and independent family brewers ROBINSONS have revealed a brand new Belgian style beer: HALLOWED.
This new ale follows on from the success of the original TROOPER, which has sold over 15 million pints since its launch in 2013, and previous limited edition beers TROOPER 666 and RED ‘N’ BLACK.
Once again, the dynamic duo of ROBINSONS’ Master Brewer Martyn Weeks and IRON MAIDEN’s lead vocalist and ale aficionado BRUCE DICKINSON have teamed up to create something very special for beer and music fans alike.
BRUCE DICKINSON explains: “What makes this brew pretty special is that we’re adopting a Belgian yeast for the first time. I’m a big fan of Belgian beers, so I jumped at the chance to brew my own. While I get very excited about experimenting with new formulas and ingredients, the thing about Belgian beer is that it’s as much a way of life as it is a drink. We’ve tried to bottle that philosophy in HALLOWED, albeit with a British twist.”
At 6.0% ABV in a 330ml bottle, HALLOWED is a Belgian inspired beer that’s brewed in England. It is also one of the first beers to be brewed by ROBINSONS Brewery that uses Belgian yeast. ROBINSONS haven’t changed the yeast used in their beers since 1942, which makes HALLOWED even more special.
Martyn Weeks, Head Brewer at ROBINSONS Brewery, continues;“It’s all in the yeast. Belgian yeast yields a very distinct taste and presentation. You can sniff out a Belgian beer simply from its aromas: fruity, spicy and earthy. Belgian yeasts withstand higher alcohol levels, they attenuate well and create an array of phenolics and esters… put simply, this means more flavour and I think Hallowed drinkers are in for a treat.”
HALLOWED’s innovative bottle label pays tribute to Belgian beer, presenting IRON MAIDEN’s iconic mascot EDDIE, robed in traditional monk’s clothing: a nod to the Trappist monastic brewing tradition in Belgium.

Jack Rudy Bourbon Cocktail Cherries...$16.99 / 16oz
When updating the cocktail cherry we looked to our Kentucky roots for inspiration, combining Bourbon from our home state with Oregon cherries. The result is the ideal companion to any number of drinks, most notably those made with whiskey. You might find them good enough to eat straight from the jar.
Jack Rudy Vermouth Brined Olives...$12.99 / 16oz When updating the cocktail olive, we celebrated our affinity for a classic Martini: a nice splash of Dry Vermouth, and the punch of juniper & coriander that we associate with a great Dry Gin. Our olives, grown in California, share that same flavor profile; they are a hearty olive, unstuffed, with a flavorful brine that you’ll no doubt find a suitable use for.
These olives are the ideal companion to that classic cocktail, as well as a Bloody Mary – or, as the Italians do it, with a nice Spritz. You might even find them good enough to eat straight from the jar.
Once a year, this finely balanced, sophisticated spirit is created in the heart of Ireland. It is a marriage between the craft of small-batch cider-making and our legendary whiskey, creating a layered complexity of nose and taste that is richly rewarding. This one of a kind special edition can only be found at airport stores. This is a rare and noble Irish whiskey that is the essence of Ireland, with notes of toasted oak tinged with cider sweetness to engage and delight the palate of true Irish whiskey lovers.
Douglas Laing The Epicurean Blend Malt Whisky....$44.99 A dram described as “city born and bred”, Douglas Laing’s The Epicurean is a marriage of some of the finest Lowland Malts; bringing together the best that the East and the West of Scotland have to offer. Bursting with barley, citrus, floral and herbal notes, this Malt Whisky is packaged in a premium gift tube featuring The Epicurean himself. No attention to detail is spared, from the cocktail shaker, crystal decanter and barley husk illustrations, to the charmingly rhythmic pack copy that well and truly brings the spirit and its characterful namesake to life.
Fred Laing, Managing Director and 2nd Generation in the family business, says: “Back in 1930s Glasgow, The Epicurean, as everyone knew him, was the life and soul of any party. Wherever he popped in for a dram, you’d find him surrounded by a circle of admirers, regaling them with captivating tales of derring-do, of chance encounters in foreign climes and of the fine food and drink he feasted upon his travels. Our new expression is in honour of that roguish character who never fails to deliver charm, charisma and just a little bit of cheek. Any likeness to Douglas Laing’s Managing Director is purely coincidental!
In line with the family philosophy, Douglas Laing’s The Epicurean is proudly without colouring or chill-filtration, and bottled at high alcohol strength, 46.2%.

BUFFALO TRACE DISTILLERY RELEASES 2017 ANTIQUE
(Sept. 19, 2017)
Whiskey lovers rejoice, Buffalo Trace Distillery is releasing its 2017 Antique Collection. The highly anticipated collection will once again feature five limited-release whiskeys of various ages, recipes and proofs. Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley notes, “The team had another great year with the Antique Collection. From distillation, to barrel selection, to bottling, this year’s collection showed very well. I was particularly excited about the William Larue Weller with its extra richness, and the Eagle Rare 17 seemed more rounded and full of flavor. None of these disappointed.”
Here’s what fans can expect this year:
George T. Stagg
The powerhouse favorite of the Antique Collection, George T. Stagg weighs in at 129.2 proof this year. Past releases of this uncut and unfiltered bourbon have won many top awards, including “5 Stars – Highest Recommendation” by F. Paul Pacult’s The Spirit Journal. This year’s release contains bourbon from barrels filled in the spring of 2002. This batch contained 309 barrels, a few more than last year. Storage location of these barrels varied across warehouses C, K, M and Q. This whiskey tastes of expresso, chocolate fudge and tobacco.
William Larue Weller
The Antique Collection’s uncut, unfiltered, wheated recipe bourbon is William Larue Weller. Previous editions of this wheater have won many accolades, including a Double Gold Medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and “Bourbon of the Year” by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2017. The 2017 offering was distilled in the winter of 2005 and aged in Warehouses D, I, and P. This bourbon registers in at 128.2 proof. The bold flavors include toffee, marshmallow and leather.
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye
Thomas H. Handy is the uncut and unfiltered straight rye whiskey. Previous editions of this whiskey have been named “World Whisky of the Year” by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and “World’s Best American Whiskey” by Whisky Magazine. This year’s Handy was distilled in the spring of 2011; aged on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Warehouses K, L, and Q, and weighs in at 127.2 proof. The flavor is described as fig, allspice and cinnamon.
Eagle Rare 17 Year Old
The previous edition of this bourbon was honored with a Silver Outstanding Medal at the 2017 International Wine and Spirits Competition. The 2017 edition has been aging on the first, second and third floors of Warehouses C, K and P. This 90 proof bourbon was aged for seventeen years and tastes of oak, tobacco, toffee and vanilla.
Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old
Last year Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old received “4 Stars – Highly Recommended” by F. Paul Pacult’s The Spirit Journal. This 2017 straight rye whiskey release has notable flavors of leather, clove and all-spice. The barrels for this whiskey were filled in the spring of 1998, and then put into a stainless steel tank in 2016 to stop further aging and evaporation. The Antique Collection was introduced more than a decade ago and has become a cult favorite among whiskey connoisseurs. Since 2000 these whiskeys have garnered numerous awards from such notable publications as Whisky Advocate Magazine, Spirit Journal, and Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.
