Perennial Violet

In stock at Forsyth now...

Limited release....
Perennial Artisan Ales Violet...$11.99 / 750ml
"Violet is a Belgian-Style tripel brewed with pluots, a fruit that is a cross between a plum and an apricot.  Although Perennial likes to use local produce, for this beer and exception was made, as pluots provide a distinctive flavor both refreshing and complex.  The beer's light to medium body disguises the ABV and allows you to explore the marriage between the pluots and hops.  Violet's fruiter notes are quelled with a dry finish that lends itself nicely to light summer dishes." - Perennial

The new Wine Advocate is out

Here are a few quick highlights I noticed we have in stock from the new Issue of The Wine Advocate #201

2010 Gerard Morin Sancerre VV....$23.99
Tasted from a magnum because he thought (‘til his wife later proved otherwise) that he hadn’t saved any 750s for the family, Morin’s unfiltered, U.S.-exclusive 2010 Sancerre Vieilles Vignes originates largely in the Le Chateau vineyard at the north edge of Bue and adjacent to the winery, but this year includes a share from south of the village, in Plante des Pres, and another from near La Moussiere. There is a striking sense of delicacy as well as of transparency both to coolingly herbal, green tea, and floral infusion, and to a shimmering display of stony, stony and crystalline mineral matter. A saline, sweet, and bitter melange suggesting iodine and shrimp shell reduction sends my salivary glands into overdrive. Morin says this is one of those frequent instances – such as one would normally be less inclined to associate with the course of the delayed 2010 growing season – where “there were only two or three days possibly for picking to get the balance right, with enough freshness, with low alcohol, but not too green.” He obviously picked the right one! This sensational value ought to reward following for the better part of a decade.

2002 Etude Cabernet Sauvingon....$42.99/ 375ml
(Wine Advocate Suggested retail is $185 for 750ml)
The blockbuster 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa came from two sources, the Morisoli Vineyard in St. Helena and the Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford (the source for the famous Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon). This fabulous, dense ruby/purple wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep creme de cassis nose with hints of charcoal, graphite and spring flowers. Full-bodied, rich and youthful, it appears to have at least 20 years of life left in it. This is a wine that clearly flew under the radar, and if it can still be found and the provenance is excellent, it is definitely a big-time buy.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

Rinaldi Red Dream....$13.99
("Red Moscato d'Asti")

The non-vintage Rinaldi Red Dream, which comes from 100% Malvasia Nera, has about 7% alcohol, so it is slightly more potent than its two siblings. Gorgeously fresh and frothy, with loads of cherry, honeysuckle, spice box and spring flowers, this is an exciting party wine that is brilliantly packaged, and I doubt a person can be found who would dislike it. However, these wines are meant to be drunk in their exuberant youth, so this one as well as the following two efforts should be consumed over the next 6-12 months.
Above all, wine is meant to bring people together, encourage conversation and be fun. If there’s a quintessential “fun wine,” it is certainly the sparkling, low-alcohol Moscatos made in Northern Italy. I jokingly refer to these as breakfast wines, but they are remarkably fresh, lively wines that rarely exceed 5 to 6% alcohol. Their aromatics are stunning, and no one does a better job making these wines than Rinaldi. There are three cuvees to contemplate.
Rated 90/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Rinaldi Bug Juice Moscato d'Asti...$15.99

Goslings Dark n Stormy in a can

Goslings Dark 'n Stormy....$9.99 / 4pk cans
9% ABV
Here’s a one-of-a-kind combination: The delicious taste of our wildly popular Dark ‘n Stormy® cocktail in the trendy, convenient 8.4 oz. (250ml) can, ready to drink.

i.e. Gosling's Black Seal Rum and Gosling's Stormy Ginger Beer in a perfectly carbonated, 9% alcohol drink that’s 100% popular. And 0% malt-based!
Plus, it’s the authentic Dark 'n Stormy cocktail so there’s zero compromise in taste. It's the genuine article with no mixing, no ice required.  Pop open a cold one for an instant party. No glass, no ice; just fast, frigid and flavourful.  The Dark ‘n Stormy had its start in the highly successful ginger beer factory run as a subsidiary to the Royal Naval Officer's Club. It wasn't long before it was discovered that a splash of the local Black Seal Rum was just what the piquant ginger beer was missing.  The name is said to have originated when an old sailor, holding aloft the thunderhead in a glass, observed that the drink was the "colour of a cloud only a fool or a dead man would sail under". Probably followed by, "Barman, I'll have another – Dark 'n Stormy".

Kilchoman Machir Bay - new release!!!!

Kilchoman Machir Bay Single Malt Scotch...$49.99
Uniquely Islay
"Kilchoman is delighted to announce the release of Machir Bay, the first general release from the distillery. It will be available throughout 2012 and is a vatting of 3, 4 and 5 year old, matured in fresh bourbon barrels and finished in oloroso sherry butts for 8 weeks.

Anthony Wills, Manging Director, commented, 'Machir Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches on Islay, is close to the distillery and will give continuity of supply to our customers around the world. Each year we will add more mature malt to the vatting.'

Info about Kilchoman
Kilchoman is the first distillery to be established on Islay in over 124 years. The distillery was built in 2005, with the first run of new spirit comming off the stills later that year.

Kilchoman is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland with an annual production of approximatley 100,000 litres of alcohol.

Kilchoman is one of only six distilleries to carry out traditional floor maltings, but the key difference at Kilchoman is that the barley is grown here on the farm, whereas other distilleries purchase barley from around the country.

2005 Maybach Materium....$159.99 / 750ml
(just 3 bottles left)
Named after the super-luxury car of the same name, the extraordinary 2005 Materium (614 cases) has more in common with a first-growth like Chateau Margaux than a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It boasts a deep ruby/purple color along with a striking bouquet of blue and black fruits intermingled with acacia flowers, lead pencil shavings, and licorice, excellent fruit, medium to full body, substantial but sweet tannins, and compelling harmony among its acidity, alcohol, tannin, and extract. This sensational 2005 eclipses even the brilliant 2004. It should easily last 25 or more years.   Maybach’s Materium cuvee, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the hillside Weitz Vineyard in the Oakville sector of Napa, east of the Silverado Trail, is made by the highly respected Thomas Brown.
Rated 96/100 The Wine Advocate

2009 Maybach Materium...$159.99 / 750ml
2009 Maybach Materium...$84.99 / 375ml
(Just 2 bottles left of each)
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Materium is a gorgeous, polished wine graced with exquisite detail, clarity and focus. Tobacco, cedar and sweet spices add complexity to the fruit in this powerful, expressive 2009. Layers of dark red fruit, mocha and mint wrap around the striking, seamless finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019.
Maybach fans will note the introduction of a new wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Blossom Creek Vineyard in Calistoga named Amoenus, which is Latin for “landscape of the mind.” Both Cabernets spend 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Thomas Rivers Brown is the winemaker.

Redemption Rye
Classic Straight American Rye Whiskey

We start with a mash-bill of 95% premium rye and age it for over two years in new charred oak barrels. Once properly aged we bottle it at a bold 92 proof - perfect to stand up on its own in any cocktail or by itself in your favorite glass.

Redemption High-Rye Bourbon...$21.99
Straight American Bourbon Whiskey

We think you can never have too much rye, so our High-Rye Bourbon mash-bill approaches the upper limit of allowable rye grain in a bourbon mash-bill. Bottled at 92 proof the dry spiciness of the rye balances the sweetness of the corn for a really wonderful sipping experience on its own or in classic cocktail recipes.
38.2% Premium Rye
1.8% Barley Malt
60% Corn

Redemption Rye Process
The U.S. Government Standards require "rye whiskey" to be made from a mash of at least 51% rye grain. For Redemption Rye we use a mash of 95% premium rye grain for a spicy and bold flavor and we use premium rye, which costs more but is well worth it, because when you use good ingredients you get good rye whiskey.

The U.S. Government Standards also require that rye whiskey be aged in "new charred oak barrels" which means that new oak barrels are burned on the inside, and it's from the charred wood and the expansion and contraction of the whiskey in and through the wood of the barrel through the seasons that whiskey gets its amber color and the flavor is smoothed. The standards do not specify a minimum time the rye whiskey needs to stay in the barrel, but once it has been in the barrel for 2 years it earns the designation of "straight" rye whiskey. Redemption Rye is aged for over 2 years.

We bottle in small batches which allows us to leave the whiskey in the barrels longer for the most flavor and color. We empty the barrels and filter for particles, cut it down to 92 proof and bottle it immediately so that the most flavor from the barrel makes it into the bottle. We then mark each bottle with the batch and bottle number by hand.

Then the bottles are packed into cases and shipped around to the country, and that's the Redemption Rye process! So enjoy this fine rye responsibly and share our pride in this great American Spirit.

Crown Valley Gunslinger Double IPA

In bottles and in stock
From Missouri

Crown Valley Gunslinger Double IPA...$10.49 / 6pk
8.3% ABV
History:  Double IPA brewed in 1994 by Vinnie Cilurzo, then head brewer of Blind Pig Brewing Company of Temecula, Californi. Cilurzo claims he "accidentally" created the style by adding 50% too much malt to his mash tun. He then "corrected" this mistake by adding 100% more hops. This is up for some debate, however, as the local San Diego Pizza Port brewery claims to have been brewing "the original San Diego IPA" since 1992 when they opened their brewery (two years before Cilurzo and Blind Pig). Still others attribute the creation of this style to Rogue Ales, a microbrewery in Newport, Oregon, and its I2PA beer, brewed in 1990.
Impression:  This beer has the most hops of any beer we produce.
Tasting Notes:  Our Gunslinger Double India Pale Ale starts with a rich malt base to which we add hops, hops and more hops. This skillful blend of malt sweetness and aggressive hoppiness will rule your senses! After the addition of Columbus, simcoe, centennial and citra hops at various points of the brewing process, we reach the final IBU count of 93.
Hops - Zeus, Centenial, Falconers Flight, Citra
Malts - Pilsner, Crystal10, Crystal 80, Carapils, Pale, CBW Golden Light
IBU - 93

93/100 Wine Spectator

2009 Riesling Auslese Mosel Wehlener Sonnenuhr....$46.99
Pure, precise and fresh-tasting, with an intense clarity to the apple, pear and tangerine flavors that feature notes of slate and vanilla. The crystalline finish is long, pure and precise, with hints of smoke and anise. Best from 2014 through 2040
96/100 Wine Spectator

2010 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese...$38.99
Emphasizing the bitter side of the vanilla bean as well as toasted nuts and cyanic apple pit, the Prum 2010 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese A.P. #14 thereby generates a fascinating contrast with its apple jelly and honey richness. Alkaline and wet stone notes – beginning already in the nose – enhance that contrast. Nut oils, honey and apple reprise in a lusciously lingering finish. Less charming, refreshing, exuberant, or focused in finish than the corresponding Graacher, this Wehlener will almost certainly need a longer time to show its true potential; but one can rest assured based on one of Germany's most certifiable track-records that at least a quarter century of pleasure is in the offing here. (I did not have opportunity to taste the corresponding auction cuvee, A.P. #26.)
91/100 Wine Advocate

2009 Riesling Auslese Mosel Graacher Himmelreich....$42.99
Vivid and pure-tasting, with a well-structured array of mineral, peach, citrus and savory spice notes that are tightly wound. Still, this is quite airy, especially on the impeccable finish of lime and nectarine. Best from 2015 through 2038.
95/100 Wine Spectator

Lost Abbey and New Belgium Lips of Faith...$7.19 / 22oz
Brett Beer
"The best part of collaboration is discovering mutual passions.  With Lost Abbey it was the wild yeast strain brettanomyces.  Using Belgian inspiration, we fermented the bier with brettanomyces to bring out tropical fruit notes, crisp haziness and bright flavor.  A tough of fruity sorachi ace hops pleases the palette and entices frequent sips." -- label
