Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny

Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny...$99.99
The Grandfather name dates back to 1915, when an oak cask containing the finest blend of Tawny was set aside for the exclusive use of the Penfold family. This wine was known as The Grandfather due to the age of the oldest Tawny in the blend. With a core selection of Mourvedre, Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache (but not limited to these varieties), Grandfather Rare Tawny sources fruit from vineyards specifically selected for fortified wine production. Only the free run wine is used for Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny and Penfolds uses a low strength fortifying spirit which is selected specifically for the Penfolds style. This spirit accentuates primary fruit character and adds additional complexity and seamless integration. Each year, fortified wine is made with Grandfather in mind and these selected batches are barrel aged for approximately eight years. Batches of wine that reach the required maturation and Grandfather quality are then blended and added to the 'Grandfather Solera'. In this six stage solera, Grandfather is aged for a further twelve years to give a total average age above 20 years - before being drawn off for bottling. During this extended maturation process the Grandfather Rare Tawny becomes more concentrated and complex with increased palate weight, structure, complexity and sweetness.

Capucana Cachaca

Capucana Cachaca...$38.99
After spending a long time researching spirits and exceptional places, the company settled on Brazil: an incredible place. The more you discover, the more it impacts your soul.

Brazil has the greatest cultural, natural, biological and racial diversity on the planet. If it could be defined in one word; to Vantguard, Brazil is “LIFE”. And what could be described as one of the most iconic forms of liveliness in Brazil is CACHAÇA. Renowned for its most famous mix: THE CAIPIRIÑA.

Filled with the desire to bottle this life for all the world to try, Vantguard ventured out to create its own version of CACHAÇA, with Brazilian soul and premium body. Adapting the traditional spirit with differentiated nuances and aromas and mixing it as has never been mixed before.

Thus CAPUCANA was created. A unique blend of sugar canes distilled and finally rounded off in American oak barrels previously used for bourbon, which are then left to further mature in the magical region of Islay, aged with peat-distilled malt whisky.

Razzouk Arak

Razzouk Arak...$18.99
An anise-based spirit from Lebanon distilled from grape juice with fresh aniseeds, imparting its distinctive fresh flavor.  Arak Razzouk is made with special varieties of sweet mountain grapes. The grapes are crushed and fermented, and then distilled over a low fire. Natural aniseed is then added and the mixture is distilled. The distilled product is poured into earthenware jars to age and mellow for at least six months.

Arak should be served cool and not cold. The Crystal clear Arak turns milky white when water is added to it in the portion of 30% Arak and 70% water, or 50% Arak and 50% water depending on each one’s own taste. An ice cube or two is then added to the glass to refresh the drink. It is served before and during the meal and symbolizes a relaxed approach to drinking and eating. The best way to enjoy Arak is to sit behind a delicious Middle Eastern Food Table surrounded by good company.

In 1918, itinerant dealers used to score the streets of the Lebanese Capital and refill customers’ jars as was the tradition at that time. Arak Razzouk Distillery then distinguished itself as the first company to bottle Arak under a brand name and sell it to the public. Historians and researchers widely attribute the discovery of distillation to Arab alchemists in the 13th century. When Arak Razzouk pioneered the sale of Arak to the public, a motto was created that to this day embodies this brand’s Middle Eastern character: “The Prince of the Souk is Arak Razzouk” (Souk means market in Arabic).

Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Vire Clesse

2015 Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Vire Clesse...$35.99
This is creamy and vibrant, evoking lime blossom, white peach and honeysuckle flavors. Intense, with fine balance and a tangy aftertaste. Drink now through 2023. 1,800 cases made.
Rated 92/100 The Wine Spectator
(these vines range in age from 4 to 80 years old: Lafon has seven hectares and selects the best three or four for this cuvée, with the idea of making a fresh, dry wine; aged mostly in demi-muids): Bright yellow. Elegant nose combines aromas of vineyard peach, flowers, minerals and curry (the latter a "marker" of the vintage in the Mâconnais, according to Caroline Gon), lifted by spicy oak notes of clove and nutmeg. Very rich and concentrated, with yellow peach and mineral flavors and a very firm, long finish. The crop level in 2015 was about 30 hectoliters per hectare, which Gon told me is a lot better than the 10 to 15 they got when the team started working these vineyards in 2009.
