Barrell Bourbon Batch 021 and 022

Barrell Bourbon Batch 021...$74.99
Barrell Bourbon Batch 021 is the culmination of two separate projects used to contrast one another. The first is a blend of 10-year-old barrels from TN, IN, and KY. We sorted these barrels into 3 groups by their most defining characteristics: one group of the most corn-forward and buttery barrels, one group of the woodiest barrels, and one group of easy-drinking lower proof barrels. The result was three different ingredients, each designed to bring a particular aspect to the final product.
The balancing of these three ingredients proved difficult as the woodier ingredient so easily dominated the other two, but also brought a viscosity and mouth feel that we found very intriguing. Ultimately, we chose to integrate 18 carefully chosen 14-year-old barrels into the final blend. This allowed us to keep the dry, woody, and palate coating characteristics we loved so much in the 10-year-old blend by accenting them with a fruitier, gentler 14-year-old component. The result, Barrell Bourbon Batch 021 is a wonderfully autumnal bourbon, built on a dry toasty backbone with hints of butter and fruit layered in for complexity and contrast.
  • A blend of straight Bourbon Whiskeys
  • Distilled and aged in Tennessee and Kentucky
  • Selection of 10 to 14-year-old barrels
  • Aged in American white oak barrels
  • Crafted and bottled in Kentucky
  • 106.34 proof cask strength bottling
  • Mash bill: corn, rye and malted barley

Barrell Bourbon Batch 022...$74.99
Barrell Bourbon Batch 022 is a marriage of two separate and iconic styles of Bourbon: Classily dry and woody Kentucky Bourbon, and floral, herbaceous, and sweet Indiana Bourbon. The final blend was constructed from four separate lots, each with its own nuanced family of flavors. Much like Batches 007, 011, and 013, Batch 022 incorporates the freshness of some carefully chosen, younger barrels to bring a more extensive set of flavors and aromas to the table.

  • A blend of straight Bourbon Whiskeys
  • Distilled and aged in Kentucky and Indiana
  • Selection of 5-year-old barrels
  • Aged in American white oak barrels
  • Crafted and bottled in Kentucky
  • 116.6 proof cask strength bottling
  • Mash bill: corn, rye and malted barley

Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue

Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue

A long, gentle cold-smoking over shells from Oregon hazelnuts infuses Rogue Creamery’s Smokey Blue cheese with an added layer of rich flavor and terroir. Sweet cream flavors and caramel notes balance earthy flavors of smoke and hints of roasted nuts. The result is a cakey yet smooth blue cheese reminiscent of candied bacon.

Smokey Blue is the first of its kind in the world. Smokey Blue was inspired by a chef, and the flavor is signature to Oregon as the smoke is derived from Oregon hazelnut shells. Sweet, nutty, savory flavors envelope the sweet, rich milk creating a creme brulee with a hint of the toasted, sweet richness of a campfire.

Game of Thrones My Watch Has Ended

Game of Thrones My Watch Has Ended...$12.99 / 750ml
Together with HBO Licensing & Retail we are pleased to announce the 15th and final offering in our multi-year, multi-beer partnership inspired by HBO’s award-winning drama, Game of Thrones. My Watch Has Ended, an imperial brown ale brewed with maple syrup and fenugreek, will be available this fall, expressing the state of Westeros after eight seasons of bloody battle.

"We've brewed an amazing array of different beers over the course of this partnership, and it's been our pleasure to be part of this phenomonal story," said our president Doug Campbell. "A tribute to fans everywhere, My Watch Has Ended is a fitting end to the series, and a reflection of the mindset of fans now that this epic story has come to a close. We hope it’s something they’ll enjoy with friends as they reminisce about their favorite episodes and characters.”

“Fifteen beers and six years later, we’ve now arrived at our aptly named final beer, My Watch Has Ended,” said Jeff Peters, VP of Licensing & Retail. “What an incredible collaboration this partnership with Brewery Ommegang has been, and we couldn’t be prouder of this final product. Cheers!”

My Watch Has Ended is brewed with two-row base malt, specialty grains such as oat flakes and chocolate malt, plus maple syrup and fenugreek, an herb with a maple-like aroma and flavor. Hopped with Hallertau Magnum and Styrian Golding varietals and fermented with an English ale yeast, with aromas of sweet maple and caramelized sugar, the beer pours a rich mahogany. Notes of cocoa and toffee and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel finish dry, with gently smoldering roast.

My Watch Has Ended is 8% ABV and makes a superb match for rare, grilled steak. The char pairs with the roasted malt while maple notes play off the sweetness in the meat. The beer is also a fine candidate for sipping before the fireplace as winter arrives.

Boulevard Your Popsicle Melted

Boulevard Your Popsicle Melted...$22.99 / 750ml
Your Popsicle Melted. Pouring an alluring scarlet hue, this blend of sour golden ales and saisons was aged in French oak wine barrels and Sangiovese puncheons with our house lactobacillus and brettanomyces cultures before resting on 6,000 pounds of Michigan-grown Balaton cherries for four months in our original oak foeder.

Ryan McNeive, lead brewer of our barrel-aging program, tells us more about the long and complex barrel-aging process involved in making Your Popsicle Melted.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THIS BEER?
I’ve come across a few Balaton cherry beers in the past, and have always been interested in making one here at Boulevard. Side Project’s Balaton has always inspired me, along with Sun King and a few other breweries that have used this specific cherry. It makes a very interesting flavor when used at a higher ABV.

TELL US ABOUT THE BARREL-AGING PROCESS. WHEN WERE THE CHERRIES ADDED?

We did a few brews over the course of 14 months, a Belgian Golden Strong in a foeder, and a couple of Saisons in red wine barrels. We blended up a ratio of what we really liked, and then added 6,000 pounds of cherries to that blend and placed it into our foeder.

We then did a super long maceration of the cherries. The whole fruit rested on the blended beer for 4 months. To put that into perspective, we usually do 2-3 months. That can be too long for a lot of fruits, but with cherries a long maceration seems to pick up more intense flavors and a bit more tannins, which creates a really unique beer.

Kings County Whiskey now in 750ml bottles

Kings County Peated Bourbon Whiskey...$57.99 / 750ml
PEATED BOURBON
What is Peated Bourbon? It’s bourbon whiskey that conforms to the American requirements for bourbon but is made with malted barley that has been exposed to peat smoke, a practice more common in Scotch whiskies—the malt we use for the peated bourbon was even grown and kilned in Scotland. So it’s a hybrid whiskey of the two traditions, flavorful and robust from having aged in a new barrel, with an added light smoky finish reminiscent of single-malt. If scotch and bourbon had a baby, this is what it would taste like. As far as we can tell, ours was the world’s first ever peated bourbon and will appeal to the adventurous whiskey traveler who has tried everything.
“The dram is salt-forward from start to finish, interspersed with rich bursts of flavor. Hot rubber, pretzels, slightly bitter baker’s chocolate, warm leather, and hard candies define the palate…peat is not a primary element, but it is clear that this is an exceptionally complex spirit.”—Whiskey Wash (93) “Quite stunningly lovely.” (94=Superstar whiskies that all give us a reason to live) Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible, 2017

Kings County Single Malt Whiskey...$57.99 / 750ml
Peated Malt
Our Single Malt Whiskey is made almost entirely like a single malt scotch—except that instead of being made in Scotland, it’s made here in Brooklyn. Kings County Distillery’s single malt whiskey is open-fermented off the grain from malted barley (with a hint of peat) sourced from England and Scotland. The whiskey is twice distilled in traditional Scottish pot stills, then aged in our own used bourbon barrels anywhere from 1.5 to 4 years. With a higher post-cask strength than our American-style offerings, this whiskey warranted a higher bottling strength—47%—and so it is more potent than its palate would suggest. Dry and sophisticated, it is an elegant whiskey with notes of honey, hay, burnt orange peel, and peat. It is a perfect addition to your shelves.

Anchor Christmas Ale 2019

Anchor Christmas Ale 2019...$11.99 / 6pk
Anchor Christmas Ale 2019...$16.99 / Magnum bottle
Our annual Christmas Ale is a subtly spiced and sumptuously smooth winter warmer. This year’s brew marks the 45th annual release of this Anchor holiday tradition.

Back in 1975, Anchor released the first holiday beer in America since Prohibition. Year after year, Anchor creates a new, secret recipe with a unique hand drawn label for their Christmas Ale, but the intent with each brew remains the same: joy for the changing seasons and celebration of the newness of life. With a heavily guarded, confidential recipe, Christmas Ale is sold only from early November to mid-January. This highly anticipated seasonal delight is complex and full in flavor, packed with toasty cocoa notes, roasted malts and strong aromas of resinous pine.

Slightly darker than last year’s Christmas Ale, the 2019 edition is layered with toasted caramel and coffee flavors with subtle hints of Mexican chocolate, rounded out with herbaceous spices. Crack open a bottle for a spiced whiff of western evergreens, roasted malts, and coastal flowers. It’s a rich, round and full bodied-treat with a silky, smooth finish.

As each Christmas Ale recipe evolves, so does its hand-drawn packaging, created by long-time Anchor Illustrator Jim Stitt, who has created Anchor’s Christmas Ale labels every year since 1975. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. This year, Stitt illustrated the Western Arborvitae – the “tree of life” – across the label. It is an evergreen conifer native to Northern California, the same region that Anchor has called home for over 123 years. Before modern medicine, properties of Western Arborvitae leaves were believed to have healing properties – hence, the moniker “tree of life.” 2019 Anchor Christmas Ale proudly wears this tree and symbolizes the start of a strong, healthy beginning.
