2018 Schrader Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2019 Vintage just received The Wine of the Year 2022 by The Wine Spectator, we do not have have one, but we have the 2018 - just a little left now with great scores too.
2018 Schrader Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon...$74.99
Readers looking to get a taste of the impeccable quality and style from Schrader at a more affordable price point would do well to check out the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Double Diamond. Coming all from Oakville, it has a classic Cabernet nose of black and blue fruits, green tobacco, cedar pencil, damp earth, and chocolate. It's not over the top and has beautiful varietal character as well as medium to full body, ripe yet present tannins, good overall freshness, and a great finish. This is beautifully done and well worth a case purchase. I'd lean toward drinking bottles over the coming 10-12 years, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it evolve longer. It's a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100.

HDV Napa Valley "Hyde Vineyard" Chardonnay

2019 HDV Napa Valley "Hyde Vineyard" Chardonnay...$84.99
The Wine Spectator #3 Wine of the Year 2022

HdV—for Hyde de Villaine—was founded in 2000, a high-profile partnership between two accomplished winemaking families: the Hydes of Napa and the de Villaines of Burgundy. The Hyde Vineyard, located on the eastern edge of Carneros, is among the most celebrated in California—its grapes go into stunning single-vineyard bottlings by Aubert, Kistler, Ramey and others. The age of the vines ranges from 28 to 40 years, with old Wente and Calera clones. Winemaker Guillaume Boudet ages the wine for 15 months in French oak barrels, 20 percent new, and then lets it settle for three months in stainless steel before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Carter Cellars Weitz Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

2018 Carter Cellars Weitz Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon...$152.99
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard comes from a site in the northern part of the valley and more red, volcanic soils. It reminds me of the 2016 with its iron/iodine-like character as well as beautiful mulled red and black fruits, Asian spices, chocolate, and loamy earthy aromas and flavors. This big, rich, opulent beauty has sweet tannins, a rocking mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s already impossible to resist yet has two decades of longevity ahead of it.
Rated 96/100 Jeb Dunnuck
The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard rocks up with ready-for-business scents of stewed plums, blackberry preserves, ripe blackcurrants and kirsch plus suggestions of bay leaves, pencil shavings and iron ore. Full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves layers with a black pepper and herbs undercurrent and sturdy frame of grainy tannins, finishing with an earthy lift.

2017 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve

2017 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve...$119.99
Compare to $129.99 at Total Wine and More

This is one of the most balanced Georges de Latour, offering currants, minerals, fresh herbs and spices. It’s full-bodied with very fine tannins. Long and focused. Subtle and complex. Very elegant and refined in the end. Reminds me of classic, old vintages from the 1960s and 1970s. Drink or hold.
Rated 97/100 James Suckling
Composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour was aged for 22 months in French oak, 95% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is open and ready for business, featuring notions of redcurrant jelly, black raspberries, boysenberries and spice cake with touches of red roses, camphor, dark chocolate and new leather. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers bags of fragrant red and black fruit preserves, framed by plush tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This is a very pretty expression of this vintage, which is drinking beautifully now and yet should cellar for a good 20 years or more. 6,974 cases were made.

This powerhouse of a Cabernet is full-bodied, has loads of ripe tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. This vineyard performed exceptionally well in 2018, and this is a gorgeous, textbook expression of this terroir to enjoy over the coming two decades.
Rated 97/100 Jeb Dunnuck
