Some interesting labels get approved...

Beer news.....
Not sure if this will make it to St. Louis....
Bells bottling in 750ml?  They just got approval for their Sparkling Ale in 750 bottle!  The label says only 1,200 bottles made and bottled February 2011.

Avery Eighteen Anniversary Edition --- A dry hopped rye saison.   We should see this one in St. Louis as we have gotten their previous Anniversary releases.

Amager Fusion

Available online
Amager Bryghus Fusion...$6.99 / pint
"We wanted to prove that we could make a low alcohol beer rich in taste... and we named the outcome "Fusion". As the name indicates it is a true fusion beer due to the fact that our inspiration came from different styles and countries. The yeast is classic German pilsner yeast, which we - against its will, fermented at 71.6°F. This is a technique know from the American styles "California Common" a.k.a. "Steam Beer". Consequently, we were able to combine the crisp freshness from lager beers with a portion of the fruity freshness found in top fermented beers.

Our choice of malt is somewhat unusual as we selected an English Mild Ale malt adding a dark, roasted character to the beer, as well as a couple of handful of German caramel malt adding sweetness and a soft touch to the beer.

And it wouldn’t be a true beer from Amager Bryghus, if we hadn’t been generous with the hops. We chose classic American aroma hops such as Centennial, Chinook, and Amarillo - you know, the ones which really massages your taste buds. Additionally, these hops leave behind the most pleasurable, citric-like freshness.

Are you confused? No reason to be as our Fusion is the answer to the many people who over the years have asked for an American/English/German top and bottom fermented pilsner ale, which has lots of taste but is low on alcohol!

Fusion was 1st runner up at the Copenhagen Beer Festival 2007 in the competition of brewing a beer at maximum 3.5% alcohol.

Rare Venge wines

In stock at Forsyth now....

Made by the Kirk Venge (son of Nils Venge, the winemaker that produce the 1985 Groth Reserve - the first California wine to score a perfect 100 from Robert Parker)

2008 Venge Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve...$123.99
"An absolute joy and triumph. Just superb, showcasing the best of Oakville. Perfect tannins, as pure as velvet and sweet, and perfect oak, too, with beautifully applied char and wood spice. That the oak is 100% new is in keeping with the wine’s volumetrics. The wine’s flavors are a profound, heady expression of blackberries, blueberries, cassis and dark, barely sweetened chocolate. Just spectacular, a real achievement by any world class standard. Production was a scant 275 cases." —S.H."
99 Points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Steve Heimoff, June 2011 Issue
Rated 99/100 The Wine Enthusiast

2009 Venge Scouts Honor Proprietary Red....$34.99
"Yet another spectacular vintage in honor of our beloved winery dog, Scout. 2009 was a heavier yielding year as compared to its predecessor, 2008. The vintage was very intense and allowed for wines of wonderful concentration and stature in both the barrel and bottle. This vintage is an eclectic assemblage with light violets, crushed herbs, red cherry and licorice scents in the nose. The palate is driven with femininity from the Zin with loads of ripe red berry and cherry and enveloping masculinity of mineral, char and tannin flavors from the Syrah, Charbonno and Petite Sirah. This is a largely structured wine and not for the weak of heart nor imagination. With time this wine will certainly find itself developing wonderfully and finding even more harmony." - winery

2010 Venge Spettro Bianco...$24.99
"We started making our first white blend at the Rossini Ranch Winery—Venge’s former home. The wine was called “Bianco Spettro” and was a smash hit with our wine fans. When the Rossini Winery sold, we changed the name to “Champ des Fleurs” which translated means “field of flowers.” Many people still loved the wine but became tongue tied with the name. It soon became “the white blend.” We have often said that this wine benefits from the spectrum of the varietals that complete the blend, making a wine that is much more compelling than any of the varieties on their own. Spettro translated means spectrum and thus we found it appropri-ate in defining the wine perfectly. This year’s blend is a composition of 61% Yountmill Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, 31% Maldonado Vineyard Chardonnay, and 8% Baranek Vineyard Chenin Blanc. Crisp and refreshing with loads of meyer lemon, tart apple, grapefruit, a touch of minerality, and solid backbone. Devotees of dryer whites will appreciate this blend for what it is lacking—oak influence. Drink now, chilled over a bucket of ice." -- winery

2009 Venge Penny Lane Sangiovese....$32.99
"This stylish Sangiovese showcases a jammy, ripe red fruit style so endeared to this noble varietal. The nose opens with bing cherries, camphor and a dash of garden herbs. The palate has a depth and fullness to it that pushes ripeness in the direction of plum, black fruit with even a hint of cherry cough drop and barrel vanillin. This wine finds its support from fine acidity and well balanced tannins reminiscent of the prestigious Oakville Appellation terroir. Aged correctly, this wine will improve for 5 to 8 years or more." -- winery

Beringer Chardonnay 94 Points!!!

All the press agrees, this is an amazing wine....we just had a bottle today and it is gorgeous!

2008 Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve...$25.99
"The 2008 Chardonnay Private Reserve continues the success Beringer has enjoyed with this program. Notes of brioche, hazelnut, marmalade, honeyed tropical fruits, buttered citrus, and a gentle touch of smoke are found in this full-bodied, concentrated wine with impressive purity, depth, and length. It should drink well for 4-5 years."
Rated 94/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

"Big, ripe and complex, with full-bodied apple, melon, pear and citrus notes that gain depth and turn creamy in texture, picking up a dash of anise and cedar on the finish. Drink now through 2014. 22,119 cases made. –JL"

Rated 92/100 The Wine Spectator

"Bright yellow. Grape and pineapple fruit aromas are enlivened by floral lift and solid minerality. Broad, dense, ripe and sweet, with a chewy, saline quality and some smoky oak notes contributing to this wine's impressively tactile mouth feel. Finishes long, ripe and sweet, with stone and citrus fruit flavors and solid underlying structure."
Rated 92/100 Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
