We tasted this wine and loved it!

It scored 97 Points from Robert Parker just an hour ago!!!
We knew it was a winner!

2013 Sebastiani Gravel Bed Red...$16.99
The 2013 Gravel Bed Proprietary Red is a Bordeaux blend which I assume is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes from the rockiest sites that Sebastiani owns in Sonoma County. This is a spectacular wine, with blueberry and blackberry fruit, some notes of gravel (as the name suggests), full-bodied opulence, and a multi-layered, almost skyscraper-like mouthfeel, yet it is light on its feet for such great intensity and richness. This is a stunner and another tour de force from winemaker Mark Lyon. This full-bodied classic should drink well for 25-30 years.

If you haven’t noticed the qualitative efforts by winemaker Mark Lyon and the Sebastiani team over the last decade or more, it’s time to take notice. Not only are the wines realistically priced, but the quality is very impressive, and some great values can be found. The six wines I tasted while in Sonoma in January include the following

Well actually Mr. Parker we noticed here at The Wine and Cheese Place and tasted the Sebastiani 2013 Gravel Bed Red thought it was incredicble and that is why we bought a palet of the fantastic wine!!  The 2012 Sebastiani Gravel Bed Red was rated 94/100 by Robert Parker and judging by the quality of the 2013 vintage we think the 2013 Gravel Bed Red is at least the equal of 2012 if not even better. The best part is our price, $16.99.

$35 at the winery!
Look where the fruit comes from!!!  It is a red blend but 62% of it is Cabernet!

BRC - good news

Starting tomorrow ----

We will randomly generate 10 names from our BRC list.    When you check out at our register a message will pop up to our cashier that will say something like you can purchase a bottle of Side Project Merci or some other limited beer if you like.    It might also say you qualified for a free T-Shirt, hat, or other beer related item from our box of goodies.
It might say you qualified for an extra bottle of the next BRC release.  We will play with the system and have fun with it.  Thanks.

Good Luck.

We will pick 10 different names each week.

95 Points and $20 !!!!!!

2013 Mas Alta Black Slate Las Vieilla Alta...$19.99
This is a joint venture between famed Rhône négociant Michel Tardieu, his oenologist Philippe Cambie and importer Eric Solomon. From the area of Priorat known as the Vilella Alta, these are high-density vineyards planted more than 1,000 feet above sea level. The vines average between 15 to 60 years old. The final blend of the 2013 Black Slate is 60% Grenache, 35% Carignan and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged for one year in French oak (60% new and 40% one-year-old). The color is inky/bluish/purple. The wine offers up notes of blueberry and blackberry liqueur mixed with wet rocks, spring flowers and graphite, followed by a full-bodied, dense, multidimensional wine with fabulous intensity, loads of burgeoning complexity and a precise and lush feel to the palate. Tannins are present, but silky and well-integrated. This is a seamless, beautifully made wine that sells for a song, considering the quality and complexity it possess. Drink over the next 5-8 years.

Glenmorangie Milsean

Glenmorangie Milsean Single Malt Scotch....$112.99
Limited release
Glenmorangie Milsean (Scots Gaelic for ‘sweet things’ and pronounced ‘meel-shawn’) is a single malt whisky full of intense candied fruit flavours and mouth-watering sweetness. It has been created from Glenmorangie matured in ex-bourbon casks and then extra-matured in former wine casks, re-toasted for the purpose. This distinctive cask preparation replicates something of the moreish sweetshop flavours in a single malt whisky.

It is the seventh annual release in our multi-award-winning and always intriguing Private Edition range. And Glenmorangie Milsean, with its remarkable sweetshop allusions, may be the most intriguing of them all.

Founders Mango Magnifico con Calor

Founders Mango Magnifico con Calor....$9.99 / 750ml
Mango Magnifico is a high-gravity fruit beer brewed with mango and a touch of habaneros to add just the right amount of heat. The delicate flavors imparted by the sweet richness of the mango are punctuated perfectly by the subtle heat of the habaneros, proving that fruit beers do not have to be one-note. Each 750mL bottle of this 10% ABV ale is both sophisticated and refreshing, making it the perfect beer to share… or to keep all to yourself.

STLHOPS Birthday Bash!!!!

Don't miss one of the best parties of the year!
Tickets are on sale now!!

Thanks to Mike Sweeney for bringing the St. Louis Craft scene together!!

Technically by the time this party takes place, STL Hops will be about 8.5 years old. But, I like a party and I hope you do as well. So I’m happy to announce that the 8th Annual STL Hops Anniversary Party will be taking place on Saturday, March 19th.

In the past we’ve held this party at a local brewery, but as all of our locals are getting super big and popular, we’ve run out of room this year. Luckily David and Gene Bailey are about to open a new event space called Willow (right at 10th and Locust) which is right next door to Bridge. It’s a cool space and I’m honored that they’re allowing us to throw the party there.

We’ll be doing two different price points again this year. We still have the standard ticket which will get you into the party from 6-10PM and will set you back $30. This will get you unlimited samples as well as a commemorative glass.

We’re also doing the VIP ticket again which will cost you $10 more but will get you in an hour early. I’m also going to throw a special raffle for you VIP members for something cool, you’ll get raffle tickets as you arrive. (You can purchase more as well.) There is a limited number of VIP tickets available, so don’t wait for these.

Tickets can be purchased HERE.

This event WILL SELL OUT! Do not delay in getting tickets.

Again the lion-share of proceeds will benefit Stray Rescue but this year I’m also going to be donating a small portion to the St. Louis Bulldog Rescue. I lost my bulldog last year and I’d like to continue this small gift to honor her. Last year we raised over $10,000 for Stray Rescue and $2000 for St. Louis Bulldog and I know we can top that this year!

We’ll have plenty of auction items for you to try and win and raffles and 50/50 as well. And the Baileys’ Restaurants will be lining up some delicious food for you to purchase.

One cool treat that I’ve already confirmed is thanks to our friends at Goose Island, you’ll be enjoying some Bourbon County Stout Regal on draft. I’ve already gotten some commitments from 2nd Shift, Off Color Brewing, Penrose Brewing, Boulevard, Narrow Gauge Brewing, and Old Bakery. And of course I’ll be making my annual pilgrimage to Chicago so you know we’re going to have some fun treats.

Thank you all for supporting STL Hops over the past 8 years and also donating all of this money to these two great charities!

Pierre Boniface Apremont Les Rocailes

This one has a great following in our store.  People do not remember the name, they just ask for the wine with the Swiss flag on the label.  It produced at the base of the Alps on the French side, but it is very close to the style of a Swiss wine.  The big difference is the price, it is impossible to find a good Swiss wine less than $30 now.

Pierre Boniface Apremont Les Rocailes...$15.99
Apremont is Pierre Boniface's signature wine, produced from the Jacquère grape at Les Rocailles, a true earthly paradise nestled in the French Alps.   This great value is the perfect introduction to the unique and distinctive wines of Savoie.
Tasting Notes: Delicate and feather-light, it offers green apple and floral aromas on the nose. On the palate, it is dry and extremely refreshing, with crystal clear purity.
Serve With: Enjoy on its own, or pair with cheeses (especially fondue or raclette) or simple fish, chicken, or pasta dishes.

Appellation:  Vin de Savoie AOP
Composition: 100% Jacquère.
Viticulture:  Sustainably grown. Vines average 40+ years of age.
