Rare wines from Switzerland

Swiss wines are very rare in the United States (apparently the Swiss like to drink all of their wine and very little gets exported.)  We are very excited to have these high quality limited releases.

Serge Roh Petite Arvine de Vetroz Les Ruinettes...$35.99

Citrus notes (grapefruit zest) characterize this very dry and full-bodied white wine which carries a persistent acidity and elegant fruit. The Petite Arvine is an ancient local grape, introduced by the Romans, that is found in the Valais and also on the other side of the Alpine mountains in the Valle d’Aosta of Italy. It is obviously a grape that flourishes in the high altitude zones of the Alps.

The Roh family has assembled an impressive selection of vineyards and cepages, almost all of which are situated within the confines of Vétroz and Conthey....The white grapes are planted on the steep hillsides, most of which are formed into terraces, with a full south exposure. The soil is composed of schist and glacial moraine. All work is done by hand since the extreme slopes of this magnificent valley do not permit any mechanization...The bulk of the vineyards are quite old, with the average age of the vines being 35 years (as of 2011).

Cave du Vieux-Moulin Amandoleyre Fendant Grand Cru...$33.99
Fendant, also known as Chasselas, is grown high up on the slopes of the Alps and produces a refreshing wine of fine structure with a stony minerality. The Amandoleyre vineyard takes its name from the almond trees that were once planted here. The wine from this prime site within Vétroz is declared a “Grand Cru”.
"Romain took the reins from his parents Odette and Leon in 1986, marking the domaine’s third generation of stewardship under the Papilloud name. Aided by his wife, Gladys, and Vincent, their son, Romain cultivates four hectares of vines, with the majority located in Vétroz, supplemented with smaller holdings in the neighboring villages of Conthey and Ardon, all centered in the heart of the Valais. The steep slopes of the vineyards require intense manual labor throughout the growing season and through the harvest, which fits in nicely with the minimal-intervention approach to the entire production at the estate."

Old Charter 8 Year Old Bourbon

Old Charter 8 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon...$12.99
This 80 proof whiskey has a certain balance to it that’s hard to beat. With a full body and complex flavors, this bourbon is easily enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in your favorite cocktail. An all-around solid whiskey that any bourbon drinker can appreciate.
TASTING NOTES:
A complex, well-balanced nose that shows both dry, peppery notes and a rich honey sweetness. The palate features some tingly spice notes and mellow toffee, very long and very satisfying finish.

Sam Adams Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout

Sam Adams Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout...$6.49 / 22oz
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

2010 Jonata Todos Santa Ynez Valley....$46.99
Looking at the entry level effort, and almost making me wonder why you would pony up the money for the La Sangre when you can get this level of quality at less than half the price, the 2010 Todos, which is over 75% Syrah, offers up knockout aromas and flavors, full-bodied richness and a seamless, layered profile that is hard to resist. Blackberry liqueur, caramelized beef, chocolate and flowers are just some of the nuances here and this pure, polished 2010 can be enjoyed now or cellared for a decade. Drink now-2020.

Glenfiddich Aged of Discovery Bourbon Cask 19 Year Old

Glenfiddich 19 Year Old Aged of Discovery Bourbon Cask....$139.99

ABV 40%
The Great American Rivers once transported fine oak casks filled with American bourbon towards New Orleans. Bourbon casks could only be used once, their aromas and flavours released quickly, without being exhausted by long maturation. Excellent for ageing single malt Scotch.

Our second release in the Age of Discovery collection and a first for us, Bourbon Cask Reserve is inspired by that history. It is our only expression exclusively matured in American bourbon casks, for 19 years. Creating a refined balance of spicy sweetness and rich dried fruit flavours.
Nose:
Warm, crunchy toffee and deep citrus notes. Marmalade on toast with fine orange liqueur balanced by dry, almost smoky oak tannin.
Taste:
Intriguing layers of light tannin, underpinned by rich notes of vanilla pod, fine leather and Havana tobacco. Develops into a sweet, velvety mouth-feel with spicy hints of cardamom and nutmeg.

Only 144 bottles made of Batch #1....

Mad Buffalo Thunderbesat Baby Buffalo Bourbon...$37.99
The bourbon is here! There are only 144 bottles of this first batch.
It’s here to stay, but batches will only be released when barrels are done aging. The next batch will likely be released around the start of the new year.

A symbol of westward exploration and strength, the mighty Buffalo, or thunderbeast, is one of the truly American Icons. We chose the Buffalo because, once on the verge of extinction, it is a reminder of our frailty and of our strength. It is a both a symbol of our passion for exploration and the problems associated with it. A reminder that, as we explore and grow, we need to keep in mind the responsibilities we have to our customers, our family, and our employees. A reminder that, as difficult as things can get, we have the strength to muster through and survive: just as the Buffalo has done.

Each bottle of our Thunderbeast™ Line is made from 100% locally grown Missouri corn and hand-crafted using a Ground to Glass philosophy. It is made entirely of sustainably grown corn grown at Shawnee Bend Farms, our family farm, using environmentally friendly methods. It is then hand-crafted in small batches into an ultra-premium distilled spirit for your pleasure. Every glass you drink comes entirely from ingredients grown, cleaned, processed, distilled, blended and bottled by our family. Every bottle of Thunderbeast™ is Gluten-Free, Farm Friendly and Environmentally Friendly, and most of all, sustainable. Enjoy.

Fresh hop from New Belgium

In stock now

New Belgium Fresh Hop IPA Hop Kitchen...$2.99 / 22oz
Hops are the one great beer spice. They are not used for anything else besides spicing beer and the varieties are almost endless! Dried hops, which, though more stable after they’re dried, lose some of the aromatic oils in the hops. So why not create a beer abounding in all of that fresh, oily goodness? If you can pick and brew with those hops within 48 hours, all that extra oil can be soaked up in the beer to make a richer hop flavor. Add in that the fresh hops we used are Salmon Safe (the hop growers are focused on keeping the water clean downstream from the hop fields), and you have a winner of a beer both taste- and environment-wise!

Salmon Safe Oregon Hops: In a nutshell, it’s all about keeping the water clean at and downstream of agricultural areas. To get the certification, the farmer has to do a number of things, including: only use approved pesticides; only have pesticides applied by trained individuals; plant more than 100 feet from any waterway, have stormwater mitigation so that runoff from the fields goes into the ground and not a waterway. Visit salmonsafe.org for detailed information.

BEER FACTS
Body: Medium-full body.
ABV: 7.0%
IBU: 65
Hops: Crystal, Sterling
Yeast: Ale Yeast Strain
Aroma: High piney character with grassy and herbal a close second. Slight citrus fruitiness, spicy resinous and a slight caramel maltiness. Faint chocolate malt notes may be evident.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and slightly coating, dry finish from bitterness along with a bite.
Flavor: Starts out malty sweet, builds in some bitterness with a long bitter linger.
Visual: Very slight sheen with some particulate, copper-colored, soft lingering white foam.

Bell's Cherry Stout is back after 2 years!

Due to a short Cherry crop in Michigan last year, we did not see this one...

Bell's Cherry Stout...$14.99 / 6pk
Tinted ruby-black, Cherry Stout gains its signature tartness from 100% Montmorency cherries grown in Michigan's Traverse City region. Rather than doubling up on sweetness, this tart cherry varietal serves as a counterpoint to the warm, dark chocolate notes from the malt bill. Lightly hopped for balance, this stout is one of the cornerstones of the Bell's stout portfolio.

Champagne and Sparkling wine for the holidays....

Amazing Champagne / Sparkling Wine

Roederer Brut Premier NV....$39.99
Firm and finely meshed, with hints of passion fruit and pineapple mixing with poached apple, almond pastry and fleur de sel. Mouthwatering and lightly smoky on the lingering, refined finish.
Rated 91/100 Wine Spectator

Roederer Anderson Valley Brut NV....$16.99
Focused and vibrant, with aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond. The finish lingers."
Rated 91/100 Wine Spectator

Roederer Anderson Valley Brut Rose NV....$26.99
Gorgeous foam leads this wine, a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Golden peach in color with a dry, savory strawberry richness and smooth texture, it is buoyed by solid acidity. Estate- grown, this is a stellar California sparkler, incredibly well-priced and versatile
Rated 93/100 Wine Enthusiast

Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve NV....$26.99
Flavors of poached pear, kumquat, white raspberry, biscuit, ginger and licorice mix in this lively, open-knit version. Features a modest, lightly smoky finish.
Rated 91/100 Wine Spectator

Mumm Napa Brut....$13.99 net
Assembled from dozens of individual lots, this sumptuous brut is an example of the art of blending. Based on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it's really as delicous and refined a sparkling wine as you could want for dirnking now. Shows lush citrus, strawberry, honey, melon, fig and spice flavors that are wrapped into a smooth, silky bubbling mouthfeel.
Rated 92/100 Wine Enthusiast

Joel Falmet Champagne Tradition....$39.99
In a tasting of 20 Champagnes, priced under $40 each, the wine panel was pleasantly surprised by the elegance that we found among our favorites--chosen #1-- JOËL FALMET Brut Tradition NV.   The Falmet Brut Tradition was our top-rated wine. We found it full of lively energy, with complex flavors of flowers, minerals, citrus and herbs, and with more finesse than you generally find in Champagnes dominated by the pinot noir grape." - New York Times

Jean Louis Denois Brut Chardonnay....$19.99
"Denois’s non-vintage Chardonnay Brut Blanc de Blancs. Legally, this “traditional method” wine is merely a vin mousseux, yet it is in fact a tribute to the terroir of Limoux (whose sparkling wine appellation must be based on the local Blanquette de Limoux a.k.a. Mauzac grape, for which Denois evidently has little respect). It will be hard to find a more delicious and interesting sparkling wine for the price. Ripe apricot, grapefruit, blueberries, and lily in the nose lead to an intensely pit-fruited palate that – despite a mere five grams of residual sugar – suggests a hint of sweetness on account of its sheer ripeness. Yet, there are suggestions of saline, chalky minerality here as well, a fine mousse, and a refined finish. This will be easy to guzzle but not to forget. Bravo Denois!" -- The Wine Advocate

World Whisky Of The Year in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2014.

We have 2 or 3 bottles left at Rock Hill, Forsyth, and New Ballas (sold out at Ballwin)

This is it for the Jim Murray of the Whiksey Bible calls "borderline perfection" and the "world's best"

Glenmorangie Ealanta...$104.99

A COMPLETELY new type of Scotch single malt has been crowned World Whisky Of The Year in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2014.

Glenmorangie Ealanta was distilled as Scotch but matured in the style of American bourbon. The 19-year-old malt has been given a record-equalling 97.5 points out of 100 to see off the Kentucky bourbon William Larue Weller, which came in second.

In explaining his choice, Jim Murray said the unique Glenmorangie had pipped its rival “because it went out and did something very different: not only did it blow me away with its deftness, beauty and elegance, but it gave an aroma and taste profile completely new to me in over 30 years of tasting whisky”.

For the tenth anniversary edition of the Whisky Bible, Jim Murray tasted over 1,100 new whiskies from all over the world which had entered the market in the last year.

Ten years after the launch of the first Whisky Bible, the sales of which are now heading towards half a million copies, Jim Murray has also reprised his campaign against the use of caramel to falsely colour whisky.

Jim Murray insists that, despite whatever the distillers may claim, caramel dulls the taste and aroma of whisky and misleads consumers as the colouring is often not listed as an ingredient.

Jim Murray added: “Ten years ago, my campaign against caramel had a huge and positive impact on many distillers and independent bottlers around the world. But it is a shame that, a decade on, some of the bigger boys continue to use it. I hope my campaign will lead at least to legal acknowledgement on labels of the presence of colouring, as is the case in Germany.”

Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2014 is available to buy now fromwww.whiskybible.com and good bookshops and liquor stores throughout the world.

The Wine Advocate 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape

2011 Rhones from the new Issue of The Wine Advocate

Wines are in stock now at Forsyth

2011 Chateauneuf du Pape In Stock

2011 Clos St Jean VV Chateauneuf Du Pape…$44.99
(12 bottles)
More rich and layered, with fantastic notes of blackberry liqueur, strawberry, garrigue and lavender, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (85% tank-aged Grenache and the balance Syrah and Mourvedre, fermented with some stem inclusion) is full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and has pure, polished tannin framing the finish nicely. It’s a gorgeous, even elegant, 2011 that will drink well for 12-15 years. Drink now-2027.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Janasse Chateauneuf Du Pape…$53.99
(6 bottles)
The Sabons produced three Chateauneufs in 2011. Starting out, the classic 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape, which is a rough blend of 75-80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the balance Mourvedre and Cinsault, displays beautiful kirsch, raspberry, spice and dusty soils aromas (among other things) as well as a medium-bodied, silky, elegant and finesse-driven style on the palate. With good mid-palate depth and fine tannin on the finish, it should have around a decade of longevity. Drink now-2021.
Rated 91/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Janasse Cuvee Chaupin Chateauneuf du Pape…$66.99
(6 bottles)
Coming from a cooler, sandy terroir in the northeastern part of the appellation, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin (which comes 80% from the Chaupoin lieu-dit and 20% from the La Janasse lieu-dit, hence the subtle name change) is 100% Grenache, from vines planted in 1912, that’s aged two-thirds in foudre and one-third in demi-muid. Gorgeous all around, with plenty of similarities to the traditional cuvee, yet slightly richer and fuller, it delivers beautiful mulled red and black fruits, licorice, spice and tinges of stony minerality on the nose. Full-bodied, supple, seamless and elegant, with fine tannin, it makes the most of a difficult vintage and is certainly one of the top 10-12 wines. Drink now-2023.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Janasse VV Chateauneuf du Pape…$99.99 (6 Bottles)
And a candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is always a rough blend of 85% Grenache and the balance Syrah, Mourvedre, Clairette and other permitted varieties, that has the Grenache aged all in foudre and the Syrah and Mourvedre aged in one-third new barrels (that’s less than 6% of the blend in new barrels). Exhibiting gorgeous black fruits, spice-box, toast, licorice and roasted meat-like qualities on the nose, it is full-bodied, concentrated and layered on the palate, with loads of texture, yet delivers no weight, heat, or ever puts a foot wrong. Shockingly good in the vintage, it should not be missed. Hats off to Christophe and Isabelle. Drink now-2027.
Rated 96/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Marcoux Chateauneuf Du Pape…$ 55.99
(12 Bottles)
Looking at the reds, Marcoux's 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is a mostly tank-aged blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault. Loaded with Provencal charm, it exhibits notes of sweet kirsch, dried licorice, herbs de Provence and sweet spice. This medium to full-bodied 2011 possesses a seamless, elegant profile, beautiful purity and sweet tannin. Up-front and already delicious, enjoy it over the coming decade or so. Drink now-2023.
Rated  92/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Marcoux VV Chateauneuf du Pape…$149.99
(12 Bottles)
Even more impressive and mostly likely one of the top 10-12 wines in the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is an up-front, sexy and perfumed blend of close to 100% Grenache. Possessing notions of kirsch liqueur, raspberry, creamy licorice and crushed flowers, it is full-bodied, nicely concentrated and has an overall hedonistic, seamless profile that's hard to resist. I don't think it will make old bones though, and it should be at its best during its first 10-12 years of life. Don't let that deter you though as this is one delicious thrill ride of Grenache. Drink now-2023.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Giraud Premices Chateauneuf du Pape…$33.99
(12 bottles)From the estate’s younger vines in Chateauneuf du Pape (around 50 year-old vines) and a new cuvee, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Premices is a blend of 100% Grenache that’s aged one-third in 225-liter French oak barrels and the balance in concrete tank for one year. Gorgeous all around and made in a friendly, seamless style that’s hard to resist, it possesses a translucent ruby color that’s followed by a perfumed array of kirsch, raspberry, flowers, and red licorice. Incredibly pure and smooth, with no hard edges and a silk-like texture, it stays light and elegant on the palate and is a joy to drink. It should drink nicely for 5-8 years. Drink now-2019.
Rated 93/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Gallimardes… $68.99
(2 bottles)
Up with the top wines in the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Gallimardes (90% concrete aged Grenache and 10% barrel-aged Syrah, from 100-year-old vines) is a rich, hedonistic effort that oozes sweet black currants, cassis, crushed stone, leather and roasted meat-like aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, gorgeously textured, with fine tannin and an already accessible style, it’s one of the stars of the vintage and should not be missed. Drink now-2023.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf du Pape les Grenaches de Pierre…$88.99
(2 bottles)
Shockingly good given that it’s 100% Grenache (which struggled in the vintage), the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre comes all from sandy soils in La Crau and Pignan. Aged all in concrete, it’s more focused and concentrated than the Gallimardes, with beautiful minerality, dark fruit, roasted garrigue and assorted Provencal nuances. Serious stuff, with full-bodied richness and chewy tannin, it will have a broad drink window. Count me a fan. Drink 2015-2027.
Rated 96/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige
(6 Bottles)
Easily the most successful of the three, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Prestige, which is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, is a rich, medium to full-bodied 2011 that has sweet tannin, great fruit and a big finish. Showing the vintage perfume and approachableness, with notes of blackberry, licorice and sweet spice, it should have a solid 10-15 years of longevity
Rated 93/100 The Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret de Sabon...$189.99
 (3 Bottles)
The tiny production 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret des Sabon is a blend of roughly 90% Grenache and the balance a mix of varieties, that’s aged all in 600-liter barrels. The most voluptuous and textured of the 2011s, with mouth-filling levels of fruit, it is a seriously impressive effort, especially in the vintage. Showing gorgeous blackberry, raspberry, licorice, crushed flowers and assorted Provencal herbs, this full-bodied, seamless and textured Chateauneuf is supple and approachable by this cuvee’s standards, yet should nevertheless evolve gracefully for another 10-15 years. Drink 2014-2028.

Angel's Envy has arrived!!

First time in Missouri...I have been emailing Angel's Envy for a few years now to get them to come here and they finally made it!!!

Very Exciting Bourbon!

We tasted barrel samples and blended to different blends.  We have 60 cases of each.  Come in and sample both and see which you like better.  Chances are you will like both.    We are the only place in town to bring in two different small batch blends.  Come check them out.

We tasted through different barrels and hand picked two different blends of our own.
Angel's Envy / TWCP Bourbon Handpicked Blend #1 ...$41.99

Angel's Envy / TWCP Bourbon Handpicked Blend #2 ...$41.99
"WC2" in stock at all locations - "Sweeter" Blend

“A beautiful, mouthwatering newcomer to the whiskey scene. Named for the “angel’s share,” the portion that evaporates from the barrel during the aging process, this golden amber spirit is finished in Port barrels, which explains those juicy red-fruit notes that slide into the long finish. Look for orange peel, vanilla and roasted nut flavors, too.”

Created by Lincoln Henderson who just passed last month...
Lincoln Henderson – Beloved Bourbon Legend

Louisville, Kentucky (September 10, 2013) – Kentucky bourbon legend Lincoln Henderson, the Master Distiller of Angel’s Envy, passed away at home this evening, surrounded by family, laughter and tears. He was 75 years old.  -- read more about the legend

What’s So Sinful about Envy?
Created by Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson, Angel’s Envy is worth coveting. Aged up to 6 years in charred white oak barrels and finished in ruby port wine casks, Angel’s Envy is an artisan’s masterpiece unlike any other bourbon.

Even after being named a “Living Legend” by Wine and Spirits Magazine, Lincoln wasn’t content to rest on his laurels. He was always a malcontent. But then, you don’t spend 40 years defining the spirits industry and earn an inaugural spot in the Bourbon Hall of Fame without a few unconventional ideas. Angel’s Envy was his last, great endeavor.

Angel’s Envy is what happens when 200 years of tradition meet an independent master craftsman’s instinct to improve. It’s a total return to craft first, hand-blended batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time. Our bourbon starts with the finest local ingredients distilled in micro-batches and aged in American oak. We personally taste every barrel throughout each step to ensure that the spirit meets Lincoln’s malcontent legacy.

This would be enough for any other premium bourbon, but Lincoln had other ideas for his creation. That’s why we finish every batch in ruby port wine casks. There’s no set time for the process. It’s only Angel’s Envy when we say it is. The ruby port wine finish adds subtle nuance without ruining the integrity of the bourbon. The end result is a rich, exceptionally smooth and rare bourbon. Sin aside, we work every day to inspire envy, even if it takes a little longer.

TWCP barrels of Willett Bourbon 9 Year Old and 11 Year Old

Update: We are sold out of the 10 and 11 year old Willett Boubons

We have less than 60 bottles left (of the 156 produced) of the 9 Year old

Because of demand is so high for their Bourbons, Willett is currently stopping their barrel program (for everyone around the country, not just us) until further notice.  We have no idea if/when we will ever see barrels from Willett again.  Make sure you grab some of these as they are delicious and very rare!

You are going to want to pick up these for gifts for this holiday season!
They have finally arrived!!!
