A few 94 point beers...

Reviewed in the May/June 2009 Draft Magazine

St. Somewhere Saison Athene....$10.99 / 750ml
Tarpon Springs, Florida
ABV = 7.5%
"Saison Athene pours cloudy, yellow-gold with a frothy, white head that clings to the glass as it dissipates. Light, grainy malt scents take center statge, but are backed by a chorus of soft, fragrant pears and fresh-cracked pepper. The first sip is honey-sweet; bready malted barley and tart wheat flavors slide over the tongue. Hops march in with bold, peppery spice and bitterness. While the texture is chewy, the effervescence and mild alcohol warmth culminate in a dry, crisp finish."
Rated 94/100 Draft Magazine

Caldera IPA....$11.99 / 12oz cans
Ashland Oregon
ABV = 6.1%
"To smell this beer is to know American hops: The aromas is thick and dank, piney scents and a punch of grapefruit peel. As brash as the bouquet is, it does little to fully prepare the palate for the onslaught of sharply focused flavors that lie beneath the foamy head; intense citrus notes with sticky, resinous flowers and swfit bready sweetness rush over the tongue. The body is slightly viscous; it's fully carbonated and has an understated alcohol presence. A bitter explosion from start to finish, Caldera's luminously golden IPA is a delightful 12-ounce tribute to hops."

NEW
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye....$7.49 / 4pk - 12oz btls
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye...$3.99 / 22oz

"Essentially a strong American IPA made with 20% rye malt. Darker in color, Hop Rod Rye boasts a huge hop aroma and flavor accompanied by a slightly sweet, malty finish. ." -- brewery

Bear Republic Racer 5...$9.99 / 6pk - 12oz bottles
Bear Republic Racer 5...$3.99 / 22oz

"This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer's statement on this style." -- Brewery

Bear Republic Red Rocket...$3.99 / 22oz

"The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve its unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma." -- brewery

Bear Republic Pete Brown...$3.99 / 22oz
Pete Brown's Tribute Ale - is a rendition of our American brown ale with the addition of molasses and brown sugar for more body and a slightly higher alchohol content. Just the way Pete would have wanted it... Here's to you, Peter Brown!" -- brewery

Bear Republic Special XP...$3.99 / 22oz
"This is our interpretation of a classic pale ale. Our "XP" (exceptional pale) has a golden color, and is very light bodied with a noticeable hop aroma and bittering element that just teases the hopheads but satisfies the newest of microbrewed ale drinkers. This beer is brewed with American Two Row, English wheat, Belgian, and Dextrin malts. Mix this with just the right amounts of Cascade and Centennial hops and you've got a winner!!" -- brewery

Bear Republic Big Black Bear...$4.29 / 22oz
"Big Bear, as the name implies, is a hefty, black, Russian Imperial-style stout. This strong stout boasts a rich, caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your teeth into. ...Big Bear's bold flavors are produced using a blend of Belgian and English roasted barley and crystal malts. Some unique flavors come forth in the malt character. ...Louisiana sweet molasses and dark brown sugar. This dark brew is well hopped with Chinook and Cascade hops, which are somewhat, masked by the malt. This is a balanced strong brew boasting an A.V.B. of 8.1% that can creep up on you, "so don't get mauled". It has a dry roasted quality that masks its' high alchohol content, so drink responsibly." -- brewery
