What is Madrecuixe?
Madrecuixe (sometimes spelled “Madre Cuishe” or “Madrecuixe”) is a truly special agave variety in the mezcal world.
- Botanical family: Agave karwinskii
- Habitat: Grows wild in the hills and mountains of Oaxaca, especially in the Central Valleys.
- Can take 12 to 18 years to mature—much longer than Espadín which matures in 6–8 years. Huge difference
Wild and Rare
- Usually wild-harvested, which means it's not farmed, which makes it much more scarce
- The wild nature means no two batches are exactly alike. Very terroir driven
