Bio: Sheena Greenwalt is the owner/operator of Vine Direct, a wine import company specializing in family-owned French wines. Hailing from the cornfields of central Illinois, Sheena’s background wasn’t originally in wine. After a 12-year banking career in NYC, she took a sabbatical to the French countryside where she met her now-husband, Pierre, a winemaker for his family’s vineyard in Bordeaux. Together, they founded their American import company, VineDirect, to bring not just his Château Carbonneau wines but those of other family-owned vineyards from across France directly to one independent wine shop in each market. The Wine & Cheese Place is that place in St. Louis.

Life of Carbonneau Bordeaux Cremant...$23.99
90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc
Light golden color. This Bordeaux Crémant offers a refined, elegant mousse with delicate floral notes and a hint of citrus zest on the nose. On the palate, green apple, pear and grapefruit with subtle acidity, nice freshness and fine bubbles. Slightly dry and fruity. The finish is clean & vibrant with nice minerality making it a well-balanced and versatile sparkling wine.
A great sparkling to start or end your evening. It also pairs well with seafood dishes like oysters and shrimp or smoked salmon. It complements soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert and for something heartier, try it with roast chicken or even sushi, where its effervescence can enhance the delicate flavors
2024 Theodore Rex Papillon Bordeaux Rose.....$13.99
Merlot—Cabernet Franc— Cabernet Sauvignon
This Bordeaux rose is a delightful and nuanced experience, standing apart from the bolder, more overtly fruity rosés of Provence. Pale to medium salmon-pink hue in the glass. On the nose, it presents delicate aromas of fresh red berries like wild strawberry and raspberry, intertwined with subtle floral hints of rose petal or violet, and a refreshing underlying minerality. Dry, crisp, and elegantly structured, with a vibrant acidity that provides freshness without being tart. This wine is a sophisticated and versatile choice for warm evenings and light fare.
2024 Chateau Carbonneau Les Deux Freres Bordeaux Rouge...$16.99
70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Franc
Organic (since 2022), Biodynamic (Demeter, since 2023)
Co-fermentation of malbec and cabernet franc as both varietals ripen at the same time
Light red in color. On the nose, pepper, blackcurrant and fresh fruit on the nose. Light structure, nice acidity & freshness and soft tannins. Nice, long finish. This malbec-dominant wine is on the leaner side, and thus pairs well with pizza, pasta, risotto and is also the perfect summer BBQ companion
2023 Comte de Langeron Grand Reserve Pinot Noir...$15.99
Sourced primarily from Burgundy (particularly around the communes of Mercurey, Rully, and Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune), but a small portion is sourced from the Loire region
The result is a silky, well-balanced Pinot with layers of cherry, raspberry, and subtle spice. It's a thoughtfully blended Grand Réserve that offers both vibrancy and warmth—true French Pinot in your glass. The wine is very smooth and delicate with a nice soft finish. Perfect aperitif wine.
2022 Chateau Pineraie A&E Cahors....$16.99
85% Malbec (Cot) - 15% Merlot
The Heart of Malbec
Crafted by sisters Anne and Emmanuelle, this elegant Cahors red is a modern tribute to the birthplace of Malbec. The 2022 A&E blend—85% Malbec, 15% Merlot—delivers a powerful yet polished experience, with deep aromas of violet, ripe blackberry, blueberry, and cassis, all wrapped in notes of toasted spice and pepper. Fermented separately and then masterfully blended, the wine shows a lush roundness on the palate, firm yet approachable tannins, and a long, satisfying finish. Dark purple in color and rich in character, this is a versatile pairing partner for cassoulet, duck confit, grilled lamb chops, game meats, or even salmon and roasted poultry with bold sauces. At under $20, it’s an exceptional value and a shining example of what the finest grapes from Southwest France can deliver.
