Limited Bourbon

Getting a lot of inquiries about these Bourbons.  More requests than bottles available....

Instead of starting a new raffle, we will draw names from the Pappy Raffle list that we already have.  We still feel that drawing random names is the fairest.

We are going to draw names on Tuesday, October 27 (will gather all the sign ups from all 4 stores on Monday) for some Weller 12 year old and Yellowstone 105 Bourbon.  We are going to use the current list of sign ups from Pappy Van Winkle lottery.  If you your name is drawn you will be able to purchase a bottle.  This will not disqualify you from the Pappy Raffle.  Your name will still stay in the mix.
  • Weller 12 Year Old Bourbon
  • Yellow Stone 105 Proof Bourbon
  • maybe another surprise bottle or two of Boubon

These we will draw when we do the Pappy Van Winkle Raffle.  After we do the Pappy Van Winkle Raffle, we will draw more names for these.  If you get Pappy Van Winkle, you will not qualify for these.  You will get one or the other.  Trying to spread the love.

  • Parkers Heritage Bourbon
  • Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition
  • Old Forester Birthday Bourbon

Yes, we did get in Blantons, Eagle Rare, Col Taylor Rye, Barrel Proof, Sazerac 6 Year and a few more goodies.  We just put them on the shelf last week 1 bottle at time for regulars to find until they were gone.  Again, we just want to keep mixing it up.  Sometimes you will find these on the shelf with out any announcement, sometimes we will announce when they arrive.  We want to reward people that are shopping in the store and not just racing in when the limited stuff arrives.

Thanks for doing it this way!

Why was the drawing moved up to today, 10/27?

On the website, it says the "Deadline to enter is October 31, 2015".

We are just drawing today for the Weller 12 and the YellowStone, not the Pappy. In fact, the Pappy will be pushed back to November 14th now as our distributor tells us it will not arrive until then.

How will you get in touch with the persons name you draw?

Paul Hayden said...

We do email first, and then will try the phone number if we do not hear back.

Did these emails go out yesterday?

Paul Hayden said...

Yes, they did go out.

This is an area that Lukas liquor has nailed it. They only are releasing 200 tickets and are offering 7 or 8 more bourbons. I guess you have to start buying once a year right before the raffle at twcp. This is no knock on Paul btw. Eventually you'll be able to get all your bourbon from online stores and just pay a little more. Twcp prob has 2000 entries. Plus they have some for retail and some for the guy who really doesn't care about bourbon but wants pappy. ( who has spent 40,000-60,000 dollars). Bourbon guys want bourbon guys to get the bottle. There should be someway to get the juice to the people who drink it. Not to the favorite guys. Your gonna lose customers either way and I feel like the guy who doesn't empty the shelves is gonna leave. I'm tired of spending money on every bourbon twcp gets staying loyal yet never getting any " limit release" or we just found this in the back warehouse. You know what your gonna get so make sure to spread it around.

response to above. Try to respond to all your comments in order here. Again, there is no real right or wrong way. Each place will do it different. Bottom line is there are way more people that want these bottles than to be had -- losing situation from the beginning. I saw the way Lukas did it, but that does not solve too much in my opinion unless you happened to be near the store at that time to get on the list. It does not reward regular shoppers, it could be 200 people that all the want is Pappy and never go to the store for regular stuff. They posted it and "random people" that got to the store first got on the list. Your odds are better if you happened to be off work and were able to get to the store immediately. The object of giving extra entries for bourbons purchased is our way of increasing odds for regulars that buy bourbon (wine/cheese/other liquor purchases to do not count). I never updated the blog, but if you got our Pappy update email last week, instead of starting a new raffle, we added other limited bourbons to the drawing. So from the Pappy sign up, we will draw for the Pappy, Antique collection, plus Four Roses Ltd Release, Old Forester Birthday, Woodford Reserve, Parkers Heritage, and others that I am forgetting. Plus, we released this week some Weller 12 year old for people on the list to try to get it to shoppers and yes, we did throw a few on the shelf for people to find at each location. Again, just trying to do the best to get the bourbon to people that shop our bourbon shelf. A few weeks back we got in Sazerac 6yr, Blantons, Eagle Rare, Col Taylor Barrel Proof and Rye and a few others - we just put them on the shelf in each store 1 bottle at a time for shoppers to find. Never posted on the blog/twitter/email. Again, hoping regulars would find them on the shelf not people that get a tweet and just raced to buy the rare ones.
It is a very stressful situation, good customers put a lot of pressure on us to allocate them a bottle, I have to tell them all the same thing, we have to use the raffle because we have a lot of great customers and there is no way we can decide who "deserves" to get it. We do risk losing customers, and we do lose customers. But we cannot taint the system or we risk losing a lot more.
We really have no control to find out if someone is buying the bourbon to drink or to flip? After it leaves the store, it is out of our control.
"or we just found this in the back warehouse" - not sure what you mean by this?

We try to spread it around, and people are already upset that the Four Roses and Birthday Bourbon are in the same raffle as Pappy because now they can only get 1 or the other and not a chance to get both.

I am not allowed to tell our allocation on Pappy and other limited bourbons and I will not release how many sign ups we get, but I will post the odds of getting a bottle when it is all done.
I know this does not solve anything, but just to let you know our thinking and that we are trying to be the fairest we can.

Regardless of if I win the raffle or not, I have no complaints with TWCP's way of handling this tough situation. I have been a regular customer at TWCP for about a year now and have had good luck this year getting a few bottles of "good stuff", just by being a regular weekly shopper and getting lucky. I will also add that the prices and customer service from TWCP are what keep me coming back. The customer service is always top notch and the shopping experience is always positive. It is also one of the few places in town that is genuinely honest and transparent about how they handle their allocated items. You have to respect that. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind words, we will keep trying to spread the bourbon around. We hope our regular's names get drawn! Good luck!
