2019 Coudert Clos de la Roilette Fleurie

2019 Coudert Clos de la Roilette Fleurie...$23.99
Alain Coudert's 2019 Fleurie from the Clos de la Roilette is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of rose petals, red cherries, raspberries, spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, it's elegant and fine-boned, with lively acids, refined structuring tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Readers who gravitate toward classical styles of Beaujolais will prefer the 2019 to the richer, more gourmand 2018, but both are lovely vintages for this reference-point address.

Patrick St. Surin Clarin Milot Rum

Clairin: Haiti's Rhum Agricole.
Clairin is made from sugarcane juice like Rhum Agricole (not Molasses). They use indigenous wild yeasts.

Patrick St. Surin Clarin Milot Rum...$35.99
We are proud to introduce Patrick St. Surin who is making Clairin (the local rum of Haïti) in the most thoughtful way possible: harvesting his own sugarcane or using sugarcane syrup made in-house or nearby, native yeast fermentations, and distilling in small, alembic stills. In essence, Clairin is the most compelling argument for the expression of terroir in spirits, and it achieves this in the most visceral way.

Patrick St. Surin, who lives in Carrefour Des Pères, a small commune about a thirty-minute drive outside of Cap-Haïtien. Here the plateau that forms much of the middle of the island gives way to plains that reach the Caribbean Sea to the north. He farms just over ten hectares of sugarcane, and has been distilling since 2012, when he decided against his father’s will to stay in his hometown to launch his business. As Patrick puts it, he did not view success as getting out of Haïti. Instead, he saw the opportunity to have success on his own terms.

The fields surrounding the distillery are pieced together with the aforementioned ten hectares worth of sugarcane planted with local cane varieties like Medialande, Pete Coca, Zariete grown by Patrick. In addition to this, there are a few hectares farmed by neighbors who allow him to harvest the cane in exchange for allowing their cattle and goat to graze freely around the property. Once the cane is harvested — the months considered to produce the highest quality sugarcane are February-March and July-August — it is carted back to the distillery by donkey and immediately crushed.

The juice is then poured manually into large open-top fermenters called pièces where a small addition of sugarcane syrup is added in the local method. Fermentations occur naturally, usually taking 10-15 days to complete. From here, the fermented cane juice is loaded into a small pot still and is distilled twice, rested, and then bottled by hand at full proof. The result is one of the purest expressions of sugarcane that we have ever tasted. -- importer

Il Mallo Nocino Walnut Liqueur

Il Mallo Nocino Walnut Liqueur...$45.99
A liqueur obtained from the maceration of the green husks of Junglas Regia walnuts in alcohol, following the traditional Modena recipe. The liqueur has a rich, full-bodied bouquet.
It’s perfect served straight, chilled or on the rocks. Versatile in mixed drinks and for cooking.

Il mallo (the husk) is where it all begins: the green walnut. Packed with aroma, essential oils, active principles and vitamins, a fleshy hull to be picked when still green.

Popular tradition dictates that for the preparation of Nocino, the walnuts are picked before they ripen, when their green husk is still soft enough to be cut with a knife. The best time is the week of St John, specifically the night of 23 June, traditionally the moment for harvesting the green walnuts, which are at the perfect stage for infusing.

And this is the moment we can point to one of the common denominators in the Modena tradition; a custom that encompasses the entire production cycle of preparation, maturing and sharing. It’s a cycle that’s linked to the women of the region, the home owners (rezdòre), who would climb ladders – barefoot, to avoid slipping – into the walnut trees to harvest the best nuts, and then lay them on jute sacks on the ground to be covered by the dew. Then they prepared the infusion, which was left to rest until Christmas, when the Nocino was made, ensuring that there was always something to offer for life’s unexpected moments.

Today Il Mallo continues to respect the ancient art of preparing Modenese Nocino: the meticulous selection of the green walnuts, picked at just the right time; their cutting and maceration in agricultural alcohol; the tapping and pressing; the infusion left to rest in vats. The recipe we follow has remained unchanged for many years: an infusion of walnut husks, water, sugar, alcohol and spices (cinnamon, cloves and coriander seeds).

This is a liqueur whose roots lie in the distant past, but which has always been in step with the times. Its strong character makes it unique yet versatile; its velvet-smooth flavour is warming when drunk on its own, but can also be mixed or used in cooking.

Kübler Absinthe

Kübler Swiss Absinthe Superieure...$42.99 / 375ml
The ban on absinthe was lifted in the United States in 2007 after 92 years. This was achieved through the leadership of Yves Kübler, the 4th generation master distiller of his family’s brand. Kübler is the only brand available on the US market that comes from the birthplace of absinthe in the Val-de-Travers, Switzerland and has been in continuous distillation by the same family since its origin in 1863. Kubler’s authenticity is beyond reproach.

Innovation Drives Functional Design
Inspiration – The bottle is wrapped in a 100% copper, Suit of Armor inspired by the Armor worn by the knights that protected the Kingdom.

Copper scrap into artwork – In order to avoid the unnecessary waste of valuable copper, BEAU’s encasing is uniquely created from 100% second-generation copper scrap and turned into a functional piece of artwork.

Functionality – BEAU’s innovation-driven, functional design was specifically designed for the hospitality industry. No one knows more about serving the finest products and creating an experience than the industry itself.

BEAU’s suit of armor keeps the champagne colder longer, reducing the amount of energy required to bring the bottle to serving temperature and eliminating the need for ice bucket storage during consumption. It also provides improved grip when opening and serving, while the bottle’s rubber punt ensures enhanced stability when pouring.

The bottle’s patented design also allows for decorative enhancements such as flowers or plumes to complement the distinct design aesthetic of individual venues.

BEAU RECYCLING PROGRAM “The Gift that Keeps on Giving”

Additionally, the brand is activating a recycling program with bar, clubs and restaurants so that each bottle’s encasing can be further reprocessed. Each city has a local charity that will receive the proceeds from BEAU’s recycling efforts.

Kelt Grande Champagne Cognac Tour de Monde Commodore...$89.99

KELT Commodore is the most recent addition to the KELT range. It is the first addition since the retirement of our founder Mr. Kelt and as such a true test of whether the philosophy of uncompromising attention to detail, quest for excellence and genuine quality of Mr. Kelt has been passed on to the successors who have been under his tutelage for over 20 years.
We are happy to announce that the KELT Commodore won Double Gold and best cognac of 2015 at the WSWA competition. It seems that we are maintaining the course set by Mr. Kelt and he has let us know that he is most pleased.
The KELT Commodore attempts to combine the most interesting qualities of a Grande Champagne VSOP, Napoleon and XO. The blend is extremely complex and depends heavily on the barrel selection for the Ocean Maturation.
Once the blending is completed we embark on the Tour du Monde. This is the legendary 3 month Ocean Maturation exclusive to KELT which brings out hidden qualities in the Limousin oak and rounds off the cognac in a beautiful and unique way making the KELT cognac the smoothest on the market while presenting a remarkably broad pallet of tastes and aromas.
We use our extensive experience and stock of Limousin oak barrels in the most creative way to get the maximum effect from the Ocean Maturation. For our Commodore we use barrels of between 8-15 years of a particular quality and history. The exact composition and details are a closely guarded secret know only to two persons within the company.
The blending and Tour du Monde puts our Commodore squarely in a tasting age of an XO but it still maintains the pleasant vanilla and fruit notes of a younger cognac.

2018 Diora La Splendeur du Soleil Chardonnay...$14.99
Compare to $21.99 at Total Wine and More
Aromas of smoked apple, red pear and chamomile show on the nose of this bottling. There's a flashy sizzle of acidity on the palate, where pineapple, Asian pear, toast and white peach make for a rich, creamy expression.
Rated 91/100 The Wine Enthusiast

More info and fun facts
Named for the golden hills of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range that frames our family-owned San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey, Diora is inspired from “d’Or,” the French phrase meaning “golden” and bestowed on beautiful, sun-filled regions. No effort has been spared along Diora’s 30-year journey from vineyard-to-bottle. The result is an expressive wine overflowing with flavor, depth and personality and a devotion to indulgence.

This wine comes from the Limestone Ridge area in block 218 at our San Bernabe Vineyard. Within this block, there are three clones of Chardonnay: 1) # 4 (one of the more prevalent California clones giving the wine nice apple and tropical fruit notes). 2) Clone 95, a newer Dijon clone, adds a nice lime component and 3) Clone 76 provides some stone fruit to balance the flavors. The underlying limestone lens in this block produces wine with great minerality, giving nice texture which will age for many years. The Santa Lucia Highlands portion comes from our own vineyard at the northern end of the appellation. This particular vineyard is predominantly Clone 4, with some smaller amounts of Dijon clones.

This wine was aged in 100% French barrels, of which approximately 89 % were once used French oak barrels. The Damy Vosges long-toast barrels gives the wine some nice length with some slight char notes. The Cadus barrels gives the wine some nice vanilla sweetness and depth. A few Vicard barrels were also used for sweetness.

Fred Jerbis Fernet 25 Single Barrel

Fred Jerbis Fernet 25 Single Barrel....$39.99
A surprising bitter:  25 botanicals and aged in chestnut barrels to rediscover a truthful and unusual taste.
This fernet is a tribute to Italian tradition, but with a surprising personality. A bitter part given by rhubarb and a fresh flavour, due to mint. The brief aging in chestnut barrels serves to accentuate the stringent, almost sapid, note. The color is deep amber, given by the extractions of the plants used. The taste is rich and herbaceous, with intense and round notes; free of dyes and with a very low percentage of sugar.

Fred Jerbis Vermut 25....$33.99
25 Botanicals
A high-quality native wine, aged for almost a year, to enhance its flavors and fragrances, which are enriched with three different types of absinthe. The perfume, then, is like marsala, with fruity and herbaceous scents. The color, a strong brown, is given by the burnt sugar. The taste is rich: finely herbaceous but persistent; citrusy but bitter. The final is very smooth and round

District Made Whiskey!

District Made Straight Bourbon Whiskey...$35.99
47.5% ABV
Sometimes the right ingredient makes all the difference. In a world seemingly always looking for the next culinary trend, our bourbon looks to an ingredient from the past, namely Hickory King Corn. Developed in the 1880s in the hollows of Virginia, the large white kernels of Hickory King quickly became highly prized for grits and hominy and shortly thereafter for its highest calling: whiskey. District Made Bourbon is the first bourbon made from grain to glass in DC since Prohibition, and we strive to produce a bourbon worthy of that distinction. Ours is a four-grain bourbon that deftly balances the sweetness typical of bourbon with a complexity derived from diverse secondary grains and malts.
A drier flavor profile than many bourbons, carrying a gentle, buttery sugar quality without the cloyingly sweet characteristics that have come to define bourbon. Ours carries a bold kick of spice that’s sure to stand out in your favorite cocktail.

District Made Straight Rye Whiskey...$35.99
47% ABV
Rye holds a prominent place in the agricultural history of the Mid-Atlantic region and was even a significant crop for George Washington at Mount Vernon. Washington was smart enough to distill most of his estate grown rye and went on to have the largest distillery in the country at the time of his death in 1799. After a long hiatus, we're proud to have released the first rye whiskey distilled and bottled in the District since Prohibition and to bring this signature terroir back to our region. We put our own spin on this classic spirit by using a large portion of malted rye in the mash bill, which helps this whiskey appeal to a wide range of drinkers. It is smooth enough to sip neat or on the rocks, while being assertive enough to stand out in your favorite cocktail.

Gordon and Macphails
