New exciting beers from To Øl

Yes, it does come in a brown paper bag!

To Øl Brown Paper Bag...$7.99 / 375ml
From the brewer:
“Let get this straight – being hobo doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy the zesty, fruity, piney, green pleasures of potent hops once in a while. It doesn’t mean you can’t separate the wheat from the chaff. It doesn’t mean you can’t be a total beer maniac.

Too long the lager yeast has been synonym with boozy malt liquor or obnoxious lagers, but the lager yeast is actually perfect clean canvas for showcasing the beauty and potent aromas of hops.

This is why To Øl now are presenting “Brown Paper Bag” an 8,5% Imperial Pilsner brewed with a solid amount of melanodin and caramel malts to give the pilsner yeast some backbone and to smoothen out the potent yet fruity Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo hops.

And for all of you beer geek hobos – we pre-packed this sucker for you!”

To Øl I've Seen Bigger than Yours...$8.99 / 375ml
Rated 95/100 RateBeer
Barley Wine-style ale brewed with orange peel and raspberry juice

To Øl Sleep Over Coffee IIPA...$5.49 / 11.2oz
Rated 95/100 RateBeer
One of two sequels to the Mikkeller/To Øl collab “Overall IIPA”. The same beer but with tons of nice nutty aromatic espresso coffee. This is hybrid beer if ever seen one. The combination of fruits and citrus from the hops and the round coffee aromas plus the warmth of the alcohol makes this a clash of a IIPA, Black IPA, American strong and Barley Wine. Cheers.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, flaked oats, Hops (Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo), coffee and yeast.

To Øl Black Maria Black IPA/Stout...$11.99 / 750ml
Rated 97/100 RateBeer
Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as a stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.
Words from our label designer Kasper about the label:
The label shows the inner yard of the Copenhagen Police Yard folded out on 4 pictures with a quote and a name merged together. The shitty tree on the neck-wrap stands in contrast to the main labels monumental expression. The police is as fake as the quality of the wood. The label is dedicated to police commander Bjarne.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, flaked oats , hops, laktose and yeast
8,1% ABV

New from Canada - Trou Diable

Trou Diable La Saison du Tracteur...$6.49 / 20 oz.
Blonde opalescent topped with a generous crown of foam.  The complex aromas of citrus and passion fruit immediately draw you in to take the first sip.  The authentic Saison yeast contributes these same fruit noes plus spicy character to the flavor.  The result is a lively beer that combines the ingenuity of the new world and the rustic character of the old continent." - Label

Old School a la Hanson
John Wright (Nomeansno, Hanson Brothers), respected for his contribution to punk rock music during the last three decades, is also a passionate amateur-brewer.  After all these years on state, here's the opportunity for you to hold him in your hand.  Total goombah!
Punk Rauch is a smoke lager in the old Bavarian tradition introduced to modern barrel aging.    It offers a scent of earthy hops on a background of wood and smoked ham.  The taste, light and crusty, provides a short sensation of sweet malt, quickly instigating a lively scrap with toasty resinous smoke, reminiscent  of a tasty brew around the campfire.

Two new ones from Dieu du Ciel!

Dieu du Ciel! Herbe à détourne...$4.49 / 11.2oz
Rated 99/100 RateBeer
Belgian-style Tripel with Citra Hops
10.2% alc./vol.
This beer was brewed in the Belgian Tripel style... with much exageration! An enormous amount of Citra hops was used, giving to the beer a powerful bitterness and obvious hops aromas. This beer had been fermented with our Abbey-style Belgian yeast, but at low temperature in order to limit the production of fruity and spicy esters. Aromas of mango, cantaloupe melon and passion fruit exhale all along the tasting, and match without complex with the strong alcohol content and hops.

According to the legend, the Herbe à détourne is a plant that makes you loose your way if you step on it. This beer finds its roots in the tradition of the Belgian Tripel style, but was designed in the New World way. Citra Hops is used without restraint, giving the beer an intense bitterness. Aromas of mango, cantaloupe melon and passion fruit exhale all along the tasting, and match without complex with the strong alcohol content and hops.

Dieu du Ciel! Isseki Nicho...$4.49 / 11.2oz
Rated 99/100 RateBeer
Imperial Dark Saison - 9.5% alc./vol.

This very unique beer was born in 2009 from a special collaboration between Dieu du ciel! and Shiga Kougen, a brewery from Nagano, Japan. Black in color, it is an hybrid between an Imperial Stout and a Belgian Saison. It presents predominant bitterness and roasted malt flavours, balanced by strong alcohol content. The finale is dry, complex and spicy, a typical signature given by Saison yeasts.

Ritterguts Gose

Rittergute Gose Labels

Ritterguts Gose...$5.49 / pint

Rated 93/100 RateBeer
Gose – the lactic and salty specialty ale associated with the German cities of Goslar and Leipzig – has a chronicled history dating back over a thousand years.

But not so long ago, it was virtually extinct, known only to a shrinking base of locals and the odd beer tourist who made the trek to the few Leipzig pubs that still served the quirky specialty.

Today, with interest in sour ales soaring , “new-traditionalist” brewers in Germany, the U.S., and beyond are recreating the style – generally with a nod towards a sweeter, more “drinkable” palate, or to a relatively simplified, aggressive lacticity.

Ritterguts Gose is the real thing, the one example still made to the traditional recipes – boldly sour and funky, but with the elusive old-German qualities of balance and complexity. Once we tried this beer in Leipzig, we were both amazed and delighted that no one was importing it. But we didn’t dwell on that for too long!
As they say at Ritterguts, “Goseanna!”

Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley & wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Boulevard Harvest Dance

Boulevard Smokestack Harvest Dance Wheat Wine...$8.49 / 750ml
"There was three men come out o' the west their fortunes for to try,And these three men made a solemn vow, John Barleycorn must die,They ploughed, they sowed, they harrowed him in, throwed clods upon his head,'Til these three men were satisfied John Barleycorn was dead.
"This grim little verse belongs to one of the oldest of English folk tunes. It depicts the cultivation of barley as a series of abuses and indignities committed upon pour little John Barleycorn, who eventually triumphs, reborn as beer and whiskey. Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John's cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes. And though it may appear that Miss Wheat is about to be cut down in her prime, have no fear: just pour a glass of Harvest Dance and you'll find she's alive and well."

Martinez Lacuesta

Lacuesta Vermut remains to this day, the only vermouth originating from Haro, the heart of the La Rioja wine region.  Since its founding in 1895 the bodega has been busy creating unforgettable wines and aperitifs.

Martinez Lacuesta Vermouth Rojo (red)...$19.99
Our vermouth, hand-made by Martínez Lacuesta since 1937, is held to be one of the finest aperitifs. The “botanicals” (in Italian language called “Conzia”), or herbal extracts (herbs and aromatic plants cold-macerated in white wine) are first aged in American oak barrels and then added to the white base wine along with sugar, citric acid, caramel and alcohol.
On the nose it is highly aromatic, evoking the macerated herbs used: vanilla, chamomile, gentian and others. In the mouth it is a perfect balance between bitterness, sweetness and acidity with a long finish.

Matinez Lacuesta Vermouth Reserva "French Oak"...$31.99
Matinez Lacuesta Vermouth Reserva "Acacia Oak"...$34.99
As a special complement to the traditional production method for our vermouth, which uses cold-pressed natural aromatic herbs and plants for the white wine base, we have added a brief period of ageing, during which the vermouth matures beautifully in new French oak barrels from Allier, medium-toasted or Acacia barrels. The result is this bitter, aromatic and intensely coloured vermouth, recalling traditional vermouth with its dark-roasted undertones and unique flavour. Ideal as an aperitif, it is best served cold and accompanied by a slice of orange and an olive.

Martinez Lacuesta Edicion Limitada...$46.99
Each year in June the finest French oak barrels are reserved to lengthen the aging of our vermouth to 14 months. Iodinated mahogany color , the nose has notes of chocolate , raisins and cherry liqueur . It Rioja , vinous , with aromas of menthol and oak character. The palate is silky , sweet and very balanced, with notes of cherry and a bitter end. To enjoy it as an aperitif , please cocktail glass without ice in very cold and served with orange zest and olive. You can , too, tasted like dessert wine in presenting to accompany a cup candied sweet.

Abita Wrought Iron IPA

Abita Wrought Iron IPA...$7.49 / 6pk
Abita Wrought Iron® IPA embodies the resilient, indestructible nature of New Orleans. This india pale ale is forged with the intensity of Apollo, Equinox and Mosaic Hops. Brewed with pale ale malt for a golden color as bright as iron from a fiery forge.

Wrought Iron® IPA with grilled meats like steaks or pork chops. Grilled sausages are great too, with some spicy mustard on the side. It pairs well with the spice, meat and seafood in jambalaya. A mild goat cheese is an excellent choice with Wrought Iron® IPA.

Southern Tier Tripel Cafe

Brewed with Green coffee beans and orange peel
Southern Tier Tripel Cafe...$7.99 / 25oz
This series is all about experimenting with unusual brewing ingredients. Tripel Café uses green coffee beans, orange peel, and coriander – brewed with Belgian yeast for an 8.8% Belgian Tripel. This is the fourth in our 750ml Belgian Style series.

In this beer, we wanted to experiment with green coffee beans. The unroasted coffee beans bring a light coffee bitterness to compliment the citrusy hops, spicy phenols, and yeasty floral esters. Tripel Café is light, with a delicate body and a rounded, soft bitterness. Classic Belgian lacing gives way to pale straw color and highly effervescent mouthfeel.

Of course, because the 750ml bottle is conditioned, some haziness is to be expected. When pouring the bottle, be aware that some sediment may be present. Pour carefully to avoid this, or don’t. The choice is yours.
