Boulevard R&D Barrel Aged

Boulevard R&D Barrel Aged...$19.99 / 6pk

2 bottles each - 3 different beers

Whiskey & Cabernet Cask Imperial Stout
I drink red wine more than beer some weeks, and I’ve always loved the way imperial stouts, cabernet casks and bourbon casks blend together. Ever since we did our Cabernet Cask release a few years back I’ve been wanting to take another stab at this style. The finished beer is a blend of two different imperial stout recipes aged in an arrangement of rye finished cabernet, French oak cabernet, bourbon and barrels once containing both cabernet and bourbon. I was able to get a lot of great oak barrels from some Napa California wine producers for the blend, and there are a lot of tannins in this beer from all of the different casks.
This was a blend of two different imperial stout recipes aged in a arrangement of rye finished cabernet, French oak cabernet, bourbon, twice barreled cabernet bourbon casks. There is a lot of tannins in this beer from all the different oak casks. The blend of the 2 stout recipes gives us more chocolate and cocoa flavors, with the base beer plato being higher than Whiskey Barrel Stout, making it ideal for barrel-aging.

Bourbon Barrel Belgian-Style Dark Ale

We tried to clone my favorite beer, Rochefort 10, and then obviously barrel-age it. So it is really just an homage to my favorite brewery. The beer derives a lot of dark fruit flavors from the yeast with barrel flavors and tannins giving it more depth and complexity.

Imperial Sweet Stout in Bourbon Barrels
We added some different malts and lactose sugar to an imperial stout base to make a really sweet imperial stout that was like drinking a pastry stout without adding any adjuncts after barrel-aging. It has a lot of different chocolate flavors as well as a small amount of licorice. This is different than Whiskey Barrel Stout, but similar to our release Good L’Oven we did earlier this year, which lent itself well to barrel-aging and was my favorite Brewhouse One release so far.

Smokehead Islay new releases

Taste the High Voltage this Friday (Nov 1) with Ed Kohl from 4-6pm - read more

Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch High Voltage...$65.99
ABV 58% VOL.
If Smokehead is an assault on your senses, then High Voltage is an all-out attack.
Its breath-taking intensity is a red light for the faint of heart. And a thumbs-up for those who don’t just enjoy the vigorous thump of the bass drum in their chest at a gig but savour the ringing in their ears afterwards.

Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Sherry Bomb...$77.99
ABV 48% VOL.
Smokehead Sherry Bomb is a peaty Islay single malt that has well and truly earned its name. Blasted by rich, sweet and spicy Spanish sherry casks, it has emerged as fiery, explosive, heavy hitting dram that has even turned our skull red.

It might well be the exact, highly unusual taste you’ve been waiting for. It might be a cannonball careering towards you that you’re keen to avoid. Either way, we’ve taken our ‘not for everyone’ mantra to a whole new level.

Domaine Leflaive

2017 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet...$124.98
(only 1 bottle left)
Leflaive's village Puligny is back as a reference point for the village under new cellarmaster, Pierre Vincent. Aged in 15% new wood, this comes from five different parcels and is tangy, focussed and appealingly stony, with good freshness and palate length. Drinking Window 2020 - 2025.

Rated 93/100 Decanter

2017 Domaine Leflaive Meursault Sous le Dos d'Ane 1er Cru...$194.98
(4btls)
The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane offers up aromas of green apples, tart Anjou pear, spring flowers and mint. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with good concentration and chewy extract—Leflaive performed a green harvest on this young vines this year—underpinned by juicy acids and concluding with a pure finish. This is a promising Meursault in the making.

Rated 90-92/100 The Wine Advocate

2017 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet Pucelles...$394.99/btl
(7btls)
A discreet, even shy nose offers up attractively fresh and ultra-pure notes of citrus, honeysuckle, white peach and a hint of acacia blossom. There is excellent delineation to the intense, equally pure and seductive middle weight flavors that possess good verve and plenty of minerality on the solidly persistent finish that delivers outstanding depth. This elegant beauty is a refined mix of punch and finesse. (6/2019)93-94 points John Gilman

As I mentioned in the introduction, the 2017 Pucelles was the only premier cru here that was a bit closed down at the time of my visit. The nose is reserved and showed quite nutty in personality in November, offering up scents of almond, white peach, apple, complex, chalky soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and fairly powerful in profile for Leflaive Pucelles, with a plump core of fruit, good soil signature and fine focus, length and grip on the long and primary finish. This is going to be very good, but was not entirely happy about being tasted at the time of my visit.

Rated 92-95/100 Allen Meadows - Burghound
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Pucelles wafts from the glass with aromas of spring flowers, white peach, lemon, pastry cream and blanched almonds. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural but tangy, with a pure, fine-boned profile. It was quite reserved when I tasted it, so I suspect it only needs time to take on the breadth and dimension that characterize a great Pucelles, but for now, the wine is quite tensile and linear.

Rated 92-94/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Aromas of nectarine and minerals convey an almost oily impression as well as a note of reduction. Then almost shockingly penetrating in the mouth for such a dense wine, with its nectarine, yellow plum and anise flavors enlivened by scintillating lemony acidity. Finishes extremely long and perfumed. This wonderfully juicy, tactile wine offers a rare combination of thickness and inner-mouth tension.

Rated 92-94/100 Vinous Media

2017 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru $974.98
(6btls)
Leflaive owns a comparatively large 1.8ha in Chevalier, running from the bottom to the top of the grand cru, so it's normally made in two separate lots. The oak needs a little more time to integrate, but this is another stellar performance by the legendary domaine. It's saline and elegant yet with understated richness and concentration - a world-class wine from a world-class vineyard.

Rated 97/100 Decanter
The 2017 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru delivers a vibrant but reserved bouquet of lemon zest, white flowers and crushed chalk that is still some distance from displaying all its breadth of expression. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and tensile, with a tight-knit core, searingly intense chalky extract and an electric sense of energy, concluding with a long finish. This is the most linear Chevaliers I tasted in the 2017 vintage, which was typically somewhat more open at the same stage in Anne-Claude's day, so it will be interesting to see how much plenitude it displays in bottle.

Rated 95-97/100 Wine Advocate

Marz Brewing

Marz Brewing Fjoggy Fjords Nordic Style IPA...$14.99 /4pk 12oz cans

Fjoggy Fjords is a 7% ABV Hazy Nordic Style IPA made with a Nordic strain of yeast that ferments fast, hot, and clean.

Marz Brewing Dilliner Weiss...$13.99 / 4pk 12oz cans

A collaboration with Publican Quality Meats, we brewed a beer designed to perfectly compliment their exquisite meat selection, be it a porchetta or some perfectly sliced Pastrami.
That beer took the form of a Berliner Weisse with dill and red pepper flakes. I like to think of this beer as having an I-beam structure: the first wave is the classic white-wine tartness of a Berliner, then the dill comes in at a 90-degree angle, and the red pepper flakes enter at another 90-degree angle to clean up the mouthfeel and leave the pallet ready to do the whole thing again. This isn’t a “pickle beer” but it sure goes well with one. We just dare you not to pair this with a beautiful sammy.

Marz Brewing Liquid Dreams Hazy DIPA...$15.99 / 4pk 12oz cans

Almost malty enough to qualify as an American Barleywine, and very well hopped with Mosaic and many other hops. Named for our aspirations to open a professional brewery and produce beers people love to drink.

Some info about the two limited releases
Compass Box The Circle
The Circle is based around a parcel of fruity and creamy single malt from the Tamdhu Distillery in Speyside. This is supported by malt whisky from the Clynelish Distillery. A touch of peated malt whisky from an Orkney distillery and a small proportion of a French oak-finished blended malt whisky complete the recipe.

Compass Box Affinity
We have been blending Calvados with Scotch whisky at home and in our blending room for years. The flavour combination is classic: apples and spice riffing off dried fruits and vanilla. When we were able to source Calvados of the right quality, and in enough quantities, we decided to share our private experiments with the world.
