Greek Wines

2020 Skouras Zoe White....$12.99
Aromatic, pure and friendly, it is also fruity and flavorful. It is well balanced, but with some notable crispness on the back end to give it an invigorating quality. I appreciated its ability to come into balance, become more transparent and show some finesse as it aired out. Mostly, it just tasted great, making it a perfect picnic wine or porch sipper, while maintaining its refreshing demeanor."

2020 Mylonas Winery Assyrtiko...$15.99
Made from 100% Assyrtiko
Press from the 2019 vintage (none yet for the 2020)
This intriguing white offers aromas of tropical fruit, herbs and white flowers, and a full-bodied but springy array of lime and herbs. The wine has an appealing creaminess but still maintains an elegant poise. The finish is lingering with a clean, salty spin"  -- 91/100 The Wine Enthusiast (2019 vintage)
Mylonas Winery is a third generation (since 1917) boutique winery located 30mi south of Athens. The petite but contemporary winery is built in the village of Keratea with the 12 ha of their vineyards being scattered in Attica’s peninsula. They farm traditionally, mainly Greek grape varieties, with respect and trust to the terroir. Attica’s has a unique terroir rich in minerals & limestone soils. The mild Mediterranean climate acts as an ally and the old vines produce their most concentrated grapes in low yields. Mylonas philosophy is based on minimum intervention from the vineyard to the bottling. When you have great vineyards that produce high quality grapes of distinctive individual character, this is not only environmentally and socially responsible approach, it’s also the best way to consistently make fine wine.

2018 Douloufakis Liatiko Dafnios...$15.99
100% Liatiko
This wine's aroma will surprise you with its bouquet of spices such as olives, rich dark fruits and hints of tannins that will age and mature unfolding -as time passes- aromas of nuts, raisins and leather. The color is light red with orange hues, which is characteristic of this variety. As you first taste it, you will experience the continuation of the heady bouquet and will discover a wine of medium body, good acidity, soft and tasteful tannins, which make it most elegant to drink!.
On the nose, this wine offers rich cedar, olive, dark-chocolate and leather aromas. On the palate, earthy smoke, leather and cranberry flavors are buoyed by good acidity and medium-bodied structure
Rated 89/100 The Wine Enthusiast
The winery is located in the village of Dafnes near the city of Heraklion, Crete. The area has a rich wine history of winemaking and viticulture. From grandfather to father and then to grandson, the Douloufakis family has been involved in viticulture and wine production for three generations. More than half a century later, the same winery, now more contemporary than ever, continues to produce high quality products with the same passion. The family wine making tradition is continued by Nikos Douloufakis, who studied oenology in Piemonte, Italy, an area where the engagement with wine has evolved into a science. From the beginning, his main concern was the restructuring of the family vineyards and the modernization of the winery

2016 Skouras Grande Cuvee Nemea...$33.99
The 2016 Grande Cuvée is an Agiorgitiko aged for 12 months in a 60/40 mixture of new and used French oak. It comes in at 14.1% alcohol. This presents as bright, fresh and perky, with red fruit flavors and new wood on the finish. Granted that they are different vintages, you get something when you trade up to this from the Saint George. That Saint George has a soft Beaujolais-like feel to it. This is fresher, more distinguished in style and more precise. There's lift to the fruit and better structure. Even with the extra year of age, there's still some tannic pop on the finish. The tannins are ripe, though. This is refined and approachable. Although it drinks reasonably well now, holding it for a couple of years will bring some rewards. Traditionally, these age well, although I have some doubt that this will be the best example of that in the group.

Kate Perry:
In 2012, Kate Perry fell into a rum hole with the opening of Rumba, Seattle's world-renowned rum bar. Rum quickly became her life's work and passion - teetering on obsession. Beyond the liquid in the glass, Perry loves the people and places from which the spirit comes and the community it seems to foster everywhere it has been. In 2017, she moved to New York to launch the portfolio of La Maison & Velier and has the honor of her life to manage the distribution of the portfolio's incredible spirits (including but not limited to many of her favorite rum distilleries) into the US Market. As she loves to say, "rum is always best when shared with friends."

  • Sugar Cane Variety - Cristalline
  • Master Distiller - Michel Sajous
  • 56.5% ABV
North of Haiti’s capital; Port-au-Prince, in the Saint Michel de l'Attalaye region, is the Chelo distillery – built by Michel Sajous in the place his family has been since 1960. The small distillery is located in the middle of the plantation and spans 30 hectares, which are planted with different varieties of organic sugar cane. Fresh, herbacious and fruity, this is Clairin at its finest.

Spirit of Haiti Clairin Vaval Rum...$37.99 / 750 ml
  • 2018 Harvest
  • Sugar Cane Variety - Madam Meuze
  • Master Distiller - Fritz Vaval
  • 48.7% ABV
Cavaillon is three hours driving from Port au Prince. After the bridge of the village and the animated small market, a dirt road arrives to the distillery Arawaks of Fritz Vaval. It has been founded after the war by Frits’ s father Danois Vaval and today possess 20 hectares of the variety called Madame Meuze, grown without the additions fertilizers or artificial pesticides. The Cane is transported by donkeys and pressed in a small mill. The fermentation lasts around 3-5 days and is carried out using natural yeasts without adding water or artificial substances. When it leaves the column, the Clairin capacity is between 50° and 55°. It is stored in 200 litre drums then it is sent to Port-au-Prince where it is bottled.

Spirit of Haiti Clairin Casimir Rum...$37.99 / 750 ml
  • 2018 Harvest
  • Sugar Cane Variety - Hawaii
  • Master Distiller - Faubert Casimir
  • 51.4% ABV
Barradères is only 25 km as the crow flies from Cavaillon, which is on the national road from Port-au-Prince to Les Cayes, but to get there it takes at least three hours with a good 4-wheel drive vehicle, along a dirt road that climbs the hills covered by tropical forest. Here there is no restaurant, no bar, not even a pharmacy, but there are thirteen distilleries. Faubert Casimir continues the work started by his father Duncan in 1979 and he is considered the best distiller in the area. He cultivates fifty hectares of Hawaii Blanche and Hawaii Rouge cane; these are un-hybridised soft and tiny canes. In this area the distiller add some herbs or vegetable matter to pure cane juice during fermentation, to enhance the aromas. Casimir adds leaves of citronella, cinnamon and, in some batches, ginger.

Marlowe Artisan Ales Always Forward IPA

Marlowe Artisan Ales Always Forward IPA...$14.99 / 4pk 16oz cans

Always Forward, the exploratory SMaSH IPA series, is back. This time with 100% grist of the fantastic British malt, Golden Promise, and 100% hopped with a particularly pungent 2020 crop of Galaxy.
As much as this is a learning experience for you, the drinker, to understand how different hops and grain interact and change the beer’s flavors and aromatics, it’s a huge experience builder for me to notice how the beer changes with just simple ingredients, which will play out for the better in later beers. Always improving, always forward.
This batch exhibits straight up wine and berry notes with the crack of the can from the galaxy hops with nuanced limeade flavors throughout the first sip. The grain adds a sweeter body than normal, fuller in mouthfeel, but substantially more yogurt-y with hints of nuts and earth, that play so well with the southern hemisphere hop.
I hope you enjoy exploring these stripped down flavor experiences as much as I do and take away a deeper and more valuable catalogue to understand just a little bit more about beer and its ingredients.

The new 2020 vintage just arrive!  Great vintage!

Great red for these warm weather months

Great Beaujolais Value
2020 Comte de Langeron Beaujolais Villages...$14.99
A Family winery established in the village of Mercurey (Burgundy). Small production from old vines. An intense Beaujolais with great structure like a Burgundy. Since the 19th century, we have produced a broad range of Burgundy and Beaujolais appellations, part from family owned vineyards and the rest as vinificators.

"This red is a step up in quality from a basic Beaujolais. " - Gail Appleson, St. Louis Post Dispatch

Bouzeron Aligote

Great white Burgundy - we do not see too many Aligote wines in St. Louis

2019 Comte de Langeron Bouzeron Aligote...$24.99
Bouzeron is one of the five appellations in the Cote de Chalonnaise and the closest one to
the Côte-d’Or (Bouzeron is a close neighbor of Rully and Chassagne-Montrachet) It was officially recognized in 1997 as a full-fledged Burgundian appellation village. The only appellation where the grape Aligote is the star.  Bouzeron only produces white wines and the only grape is Aligote.  Aligoté grape is a cross of Pinot Noir and Gouais (that no longer exists today).

Comted de Langeron Aligote has aromas of fresh peaches, white flowers, and green apples. On the palate, it is well balanced and creamy, but the wine is very pure with great focus and nice streak of acidity running through it.  Great crisp White Burgundy with a round mouthfeel!  Great bottle!

Classic Kir Cocktail
Created by the Mayor of Dijon, Kir is a popular French cocktail made with Aligote Wine and crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur)

Great new Muscadet - Domaine de la Combe

"Monopole" Muscadet

2019 Domaine de la Combe Muscadet Sevre et Maine...$18.99
Sur Lie
100% Melon de Bourgogne
The Vineyard is located in the "lieux dit » La Pétière in Saint-Fiacre distinguished by its particular topography named « Combe » which is a sort of valley.  Today Pierre Henry Gadais is the only wine grower to own this terroir. For this reason, it is considered a Monopole. In addition, « La Pétière », located nearby, used to be a pre-historic village.  With a total of 9 hectares, planted with Melon de Bourgogne, the vineyard is one of the last to exclusively produce Muscadet. Pierre Henry has always believed in the Melon but also in the traditions. For him, the new generation is changing the variety and by doing so, losing the appellation. Pierre Henry does not want Muscadet to become a new world wine region.

Import information and terms about this wine:

Sèvre et Maine:
The Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is a vineyard area that extends across about twenty communes to the south east of Nantes. It takes its name from the two rivers flowing through the vineyards: the Sèvre Nantaise and the Maine.

Sur Lie:
French for "on the lees".  Aging wines sur lie means they  are kept in contact with the dead yeast cells and are not racked or otherwise filtered. This is done with mostly white wines to enrich them and add more complexity.

Grape: Melon de Bourgogne
The grape of Muscadet!  Melon de Bourgogne originated in Burgundy (hence the name), but was removed for other grapes that thrived better there.  Melon's ability to survive frost made it ideal in the Loire.  When aged on the lees it produces a crisp, dry and complex white wine that is perfect with everything found in the ocean.   Great wine with seafood.

Monopole: An appellation or designated winegrowing region controlled entirely by one winery.

Horgelus Cotes de Gascogne Rose

2020 Horgelus Cotes de Gascogne Rose....$13.99
  • 35% Merlot
  • 35% Tannat
  • 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
Horgelus Rose is made from grapes that were picked at night.  At night the grapes are cooler and lends itself to a much fresher Rose wine.  This Rose has an intense and complex bouquet of sweet strawberries, juicy blackcurrants and ends with a thirst-quenching and dry finish.
Great wine on its own but also goes well with grilled chicken, salmon and fresh salads.

Le Grand Valmal Cotes du Rhone BLANC

Only about 8% of the Rhone production is white!
Here is an outstanding example of a great white Rhone!

2020 Le Grand Valmal Cotes du Rhone BLANC....$17.99
  • 50% Viognier
  • 30% Grenache Blanc
  • 20% Roussanne
2020 Generation Cotes du Rhone Blanc, a tank-fermented blend that includes Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne . It's medium to full-bodied, plump and fleshy, attractive lemon and apple character with lemon grass, following through to a full-bodied palate with plenty of delicious fruit at the end

We represent three generations of wine estate owners in the south of France. Our soil is mostly sand-clay, mixed with old river stones from the Ice-age, often mixed with eroded soil coming from the garrigue covered hills.  This region benefits from the largest number of sunshine hours in France, important for the aroma development, photosynthesis, and maturing process. The north wind, called « Mistral », blows up to 100 days a year, and keeps the vines clean and healthy. Our aim is for the wine to be an expression of the grape and of the terroir. Our wines are fruit driven, with roundness , some spices, complexity and long finish.

2020 Medimer Cotes de Thau Piquepoul

Great Spring white!
2020 Medimer Cotes de Thau Piquepoul...$9.98
On Sales - was $13.99
WINEMAKING: Early morning picking and cold temperature fermentation to preserve freshness. Piquepoul is a grape that needs heat and sunshine to ripen nicely. However it requires cool temperature fermentation to express its crisp and powerful aromatic profile.
TASTING NOTES: It’s important to know that Piquepoul grows in a warm and dry climate, close to the Mediterranean sea. Its aromatic profile shows citrus and grapefruit, which pairs beautifully well with Mediterranean cuisine. The signature of the Piquepoul however is a slight saline minerality on the palate which makes it the perfect seafood match. It is a versatile food wine for everyday.
