The Wine and Cheese Place
Thanksgiving Day is November 27th
Beaujolais Nouveau Day is November 20th

Turkey day wines....

Kevin in Ballwin suggests...
Angoves Nine Vines Viognier (white).....$10.99
Bright melon aromas, along with rich, crisp pineapple and peach flavors.

Boniface Apremont (white)....$14.99
A light, crisp, dry white from the French Alps. Apples with a touch of honeysuckle.

Caneros Creek Pinot Noir Reserve (red)....$19.99
A classic California wine. Raspberry and strawberry nose as well as in the taste.

Thorn Clarke Terra Barossa Cuvee (red)....$13.99
A Blend of Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvginon and Cabernet Franc. Supple, round currants and spice with a long savory finish.

Chris in Rock Hill suggests...
Sinskey Abraxas (white)...$26.99
A blend of Alsace varietals from Los Carnernos. A floral wine with zippy acidity. My fav!

Boniface Rousette (white)...$19.99

Apremont's big bro. Ripe pineapple and apricot, a thirst-quencher. Turkey's best friend.

Pierre Chermette Beaujolais (red)...$15.99
New to the store! Great buy from Peter Weygandt!

Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir (red)...$11.99
A real find from Argentina. Rich, velvety, a bargain hunter's dream come true!

Clos du Caillou VV Cotes du Rhone (red)...$22.99
Drinks like Chateauneuf du Pape at half the price!!

Paul at Forsyth suggests...
Lancyre Roussanne (white)...$14.99
One of our favorite finds this year. This wine has no oak and good earthy flavors that you do not get in Chardonnay. It has the perfect flavor profile for Turkey, stuffing and all the fixings.

Segries Cotes du Rhone (red)...$11.99
This Segries Cotes du Rhone has good fruit and spice to match with the holiday feast. It is a perfect match with Turkey.

Shotfire Shiraz (red)...$21.99
I am a big fan of Shiraz with Thanksgiving. There are so many different flavors going on---sweet, tart, salty, and earthy. You need a wine with good fruit and richness to handle it all. Shotfire is up for the challenge. This will be my wine this year. I am the lucky family member, I never have to cook a dish--I am always in charge of bringing the wine.

Want beer with your meal...
Oktoberfest style beers go very well with the roasted bird.
I think I might try the Achel Trappist Extra Ale this year, I think a good Belgian ale will match well.
With your pumpkin pie you might want to try one of the spiced winter ales we just got in stock. Try a Lindemans Lambic (Cherry or Raspberry) if you have cheesecake or a chocolate dessert.

Marc at Provisions Market suggests...
Terlano Terlaner (white)...$17.99
A blend of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from Italy's Alto Adige Region. Lots of apple and honey with good acidity. A rich and unique wine for the holidays.

Knyphausen Baron K Riesling (white)...$12.99
A slightly sweet rielsing with ripe fruit and lots of minerals. Great balance make this a Thanksgiving Day favorite.

Pierre Chermette Beaujolais (red)...$15.99
Fresh raspberry and cranberry with a refreshingly tart finish. Classic red for Thanksgiving.

Coto de Hayas Tinto (red)...$7.99
This blend from Spain, composed mainly of grenache, shows a bunch of cherry and jam. Stainless steal fermentation gives this wine a bright finish. A great holiday value.

2008 Schlafly Barrel-Aged
Imperial Stout...$9.99 / 750ml
"A roasty, rich and malty Imperial Stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is a perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold-weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert (especially chocolate)." -- brewery

Schlafly Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout
Side by side tasting of the 2007 and 2008.
It was an interesting comparison tasting the 2007 version next to the 2008. Customer comments leaned towards the 2007, but some thought the 2008 was much better. To me, the 2007 had a much bigger nose of Bourbon. It had a touch of caramel, coffee, and chocolate on the palate. The 2008 showed much less Bourbon and more alcohol. It also had a more pronounced coffee/mocha flavor. The 2007 to me was much maltier and sweeter than the 2008. I think the 2008 was very good, but I would forget about for awhile and let it all come together like the 2007. -- Paul

Chocolate Indulgence, Left Hand Warrior...

Left Hand Fresh Hopped Warrior IPA...$5.69 / 22oz
In stock now at Forsyth!
(we are opening a bottle now if you are in the area for a taste. 11/18 - 1pm)

"The vibrant aromatics and flavors that are derived from the use of exuberant amounts of fresh flower hops are what helps create and set apart his most unique beer. While the addition of locally grown hops form the brewery's own hop farm contributes to the bright floral hoppiness, the majority of the hop volume comes from Warrior hops that are overnighted from Yakima, WA. Yet true to the brewery's fundamental belief system, the strong hop character is balanced by a strong malt foundation, allowing for an approachable, drinkable IPA that finishes amazingly clean. Get it while it lasts!" -- Left Hand

In stock now at Forsyth...
Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence...$10.99 / 750ml
10th Anniversary
"The success of the 2007 Anniversary beer encouraged us to brew Chocolate Indulgence again in 2008. As of the end of October, 2008 the recent batch of Indulgence is now beginning to make its way to your local retailer. Since the 2007 10th Anniversary Edition, our brewstaff and Department of All Things New and Delicious have been conducting strenuous research and exhaustive experiments to improve the character of the Chocolate Indulgence. We were happy with 2007's version, but, we tend to never sleep when it comes to fine-tuning the flavor and character of our beers. We feel that this year's batch has been honed to sublime levels of chocolatey / malty / decadent goodness. We hope you agree. For a little background, the story behind the beer: On October 13, 2007, at out Brewery Tenth Anniversary Party (Waffles and Puppets) we introduced Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout to the world. Chocolate Indulgence comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses. The taste continues with the intense Belgian dark chocolate gliding across the tongue; starting sweet up front but giving way to rich cocoa flavors at the back. Through it all, a subtle fruitiness from our special Belgian yeast gives the beer brightness otherwise foreign to a beer style normally associated with gray foggy skies. Lingering chocolate entices the drinker to taste more. Go ahead. Dessert is good for the soul."

2008 Anchor Christmas Ale 6pks

2008 Anchor Christmas Ale Magnums
"The brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer are proud to announce the release of our thirty-fourth annual Christmas Ale.
Every year since 1975 the brewers at Anchor have brewed a distinctive and unique Christmas Ale, which is available from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year—as is the tree on the label—but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. Each year our Christmas Ale gets a unique label and a unique recipe for the Ale itself. Although our recipes must remain a secret, many enthusiasts save a few bottles from year to year—stored in a cool dark place—to taste later and compare with other vintages." -- brewery

Craft beer from Norway and Brazil!!

Nogne-O #100...$8.49 / pint
This beer is great for drinking as the weather gets colder!

"Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. This malty, yet light bodied ale has a massive hop bitterness. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.
Recommended serving temperature 61°F

Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water." -- Nogne-O

Great new beers from BRAZIL!
"Unhappy with the mass market beers available in Brazil, Juliano Mendes and his family decided to build a craft brewery and hire a German Brewmaster, a graduate of Weihenstephan, to brew a special lineup of beers, from German-style Weizenbier to special Belgian-style ales. The name 'Eisenbahn,' which means 'railway,' was chosen because another brewery with the same name existed in Blumenau in 1909, but was not strong enough to fight against the commercial actions of the big breweries, ultimately shutting down a few years later. The new Eisenbahn was born in July of 2002, and hopes to continue as an anchor of the emerging South American craft beer scene for many years to come, always faithful to pure and traditional beers." -- importer

Eisenbahn Defumada Smoked Lager...$2.49 / 12oz
"Eisenbahn's Defumada, like the famous smoked lagers of Bamberg,Germany, is brewed with a special, smoked barley malt, giving it arich, smoky flavor and aroma." - importer
