The Glenrothes are back

As it was switching distributors in town, we ran out for a short time.  The are back in stock with a few new ones too.

The Glenrothes Bourbon Cask Reserve...$39.99
Formerly known as Alba Reserve, we have changed the name for transparency and simplicity of trade and consumer understanding. A certified Kosher expression it is matured exclusively in American oak ex-Bourbon casks.
The Glenrothes' normal wood policy uses a combination of Spanish and American oak, seasoned with sherry, bourbon and malt Scotch (known as refill). Of those only Bourbon is 100% Kosher.  For this expression Gordon Motion has used Glenrothes matured exclusively in American oak refill Bourbon casks. It therefore delivers coconut and vanilla in abundance, and is soft and mellow with a crème brulée flavour and feel.
Bourbon Cask Reserve was certified in March 2009-and annually thereafter-by Rabbi Padwa of the London Beth Din.

The Glenrothes 1995 Single Malt Scotch...$85.99
The Vintage 1995 was the first ever Vintage specifically laid in cask with the intention of, when mature, bottling as The Glenrothes.  With about 30% from first fill American Sherry oak delivering butterscotch: Spice and dried fruits from 1st fill Spanish Sherry oak and the rest from refill casks giving the characteristic Glenrothes balance and complexity of flavour. Arguably it is preferable post-dinner when conversation is in full flow.  It fulfils every anticipation of The Glenrothes: A "come-hither" nose filled with exotic spices is followed by a citrus and fruity richness coated in honeyed butterscotch. These flavours, and more, are all delivered on the palate culminating with a long, rich and satisfying, fruity spiciness

The Glenrothes 2001 Single Malt Scotch....$ 61.99
The Vintage 2001 bottled in 2013 was selected from a variety of casks to deliver soft but stimulating and conversational properties. It combines the maturity of oaky vanilla, with the fullness of ripe black cherries and has a lingering, typically Glenrothes finish of soft spices.
It has wonderful length and depth, hugely satisfying and an excellent demonstration of the Malt Master's skill and dedication to the art of wood management.

The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve....$39.99
The combination of different Vintages aged in a variety of casks creates a balance of mature experience and vibrant youth. The oldest constituent brings mellow oak and dried fruits; the greatest proportion adds soft, mature, sweet vanilla; the more youthful add exuberance and lemon citrus, creating a sharp and uplifting taste.

The Glenrothes 1998 Single Malt Scotch...$74.99
The Vintage 1998 is the next Core Vintage to follow the Vintage 1991 and 1994. It is the first of the vintages that we have bottled that was expressly laid down at origin to be bottled as Glenrothes on maturity and as such has a greater availability of stock than any of the previous bottlings.
This is also Gordon Motion's first bottling as Malt Master and he describes it as: "It's said that pictures speak a thousand words and this is like Carmen Miranda's hat in a bottle. Tropical fruits lead with pineapple and mango developing into sweet bananas, coconut and classic Glenrothes vanilla pods."

The finest vintage of this cuvee to date (it’s only the second year for the cuvee though), the 2014 Syrah The Pundit has loads of ripe dark fruits, charcoal, smoked herbs and licorice in a concentrated, rich, yet always balanced and fresh style. Made from 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre, aged mostly in French oak (which is a positive change from the American oak used for the 2013), with a small part in concrete, drink this pleasure-bent effort over the coming 4-5 years.
Rated 92/100 The Wine Advocate

2013 Tenet GSM Blend $49.98
Lowest price in Missouri is Total Wine and More at $69.99
The real superstar in the lineup is the 2013 Tenet GSM, which checks in as a mix of 40% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre that spent 12 months in neutral French oak. Ripe, voluptuous and thrillingly textured, this beauty boasts fabulous aromatics of red and black raspberries, melted licorice, pepper and assorted floral characteristics. These all come together nicely on the palate where the wine is full-bodied, has no hard edges, a big, layered mid-palate and blockbuster length. Count me impressed. This Chateauneuf du Pape look-alike will have a decade or more of longevity.

It’s the roasted Champagne Malt which gives PALM its amber color, but without being heavy. Avery Maharaja Imperial IPA...$12.99 / 4pk Cans

Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, meaning “great”, and rajan, meaning “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. Welcome to his kingdom!

Stone Brewing Ripper San Diego Pale Ale

STONE RIPPER
A RIPPIN' SWELL OF JUICY HOPS

Stone Brewing Ripper San Diego Pale Ale...$9.99 / 6pk Cans
When it came to creating Ripper, we drew inspiration from the coastal surf cultures of SoCal and Oz. Sourcing classic Cascade from the Pacific Northwest and Australian Galaxy hops from…yes…Australia, we made a beer both lovers of frothy peaks and hoppy green buds will be stoked about. At the same time, we stayed true to our San Diego roots by pushing the hop boundaries of this style. While some might think it lingers on an edge far closer to an IPA, with all the dry-hop flavor and aroma, it’s actually right in line with the current-day interpretation of a West Coast pale. Ours just so happens to have an Aussie accent that’s cascading with a juicy amount of grapefruit and passion fruit hoppiness. So veg out or venture out. Either way, rip one open and taste this awesome golden nectar!

Schlafly IBEX Cellar Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

We have a lot of stuff coming this year and we think you will like what we have in store.
Since the label got approved, I figured we could show you this one from Schlafly.   It is fitting since Schlafly produced our first Barrel Aged Beer 5 years ago for our 30th Anniversary.  We have seen a lot of barrel aged beer since then.....

Exciting new Sierra Nevada beers....

Sierra Nevada Tropical IPA....$7.99 / 6pk
Our tropical take on the American IPA

Inspired by the island life, we created an IPA completely disconnected from the mainland. We used our one-of-a-kind Hop Torpedo to deliver an intense rush of hop flavor and the lush aromas of mango, papaya, and passionfruit with every sip. Enjoy our tropical twist on the American IPA.

Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange Pale Ale...$7.99 / 6 pack
A pale ale with a twist.

We love hops with a bright, citrus-heavy character. We always wondered what it would be like to punch up the citrus while maintaining a crisp hop bite and balance. The result is this new take on the hoppy pale ale brewed with Cascade, Equinox, and Mandarina hops with a hint of orange peel from additions in both the brew kettle and the fermenter that tweak the classic hop profile and add a zesty pop of bright orange flavor.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Golden IPA....$7.99 / 6pk
Citrus-heavy hops in a dry, yet assertive IPA
At Beer Camp, no beer style is off limits, so we jumped at the idea of doing a Golden IPA using wheat malt for a light, dry body and bold American and experimental hops for intense citrus flavor. The perfect spring seasonal, we invite you to enjoy this year’s Beer Camp encore.

Lagunitas Sucks......$9.99 / 6 pack

"Brown Shugga' Substitute"

The Back story on it....
This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

New Hermitage American Sours....

Hermitage Brewing Strawberry Rhubarb Sour...$11.99 / 375ml
This American sour release from the Hermitage Barrel Cellar takes us back to Grandma’s kitchen with the classic combination of Strawberries and Rhubarb.
ABV:  6.5%
The beer pours a very hazy amber color, with a rosy, pinkish hue from the pureed strawberry floating in suspension. You may see a small amount of pink sediment in the bottom of some bottles if they manage to stand in one place long enough. We searched for only the sweetest strawberries to add to this one, and the juicy aroma of those delicious fruits wafts commandingly off the glass. The lovely essence of California wine barrels mingles with the strawberry, highlighted by hints of barrel-aged funkiness. The first sip is a bit of a surprise, as the super-tart Rhubarb jumps to the front of your taste buds to make itself known. Next comes the tannic character of the barrels and a moderate dose of Brett- and Lacto- induced funk. The beer is definitely sour but not puckering, and as it warms in your hand the strawberries move closer and closer to the front of the stage. The finish is tart and dry, with hints of strawberry lingering between sips. Smooth and refreshing, great for a summer day.

Hermitage Brewing Blood Orange Sour...$11.99 / 375ml

ABV:  6.5%
The blood orange is the darling of the citrus world with its trademark sweet and tart citrus flavors and a richer, berry-like sweetness. The beer pours a deep ruby red color in the glass and explodes with an amazing aroma of 35,000 fresh cut oranges.
The onset of cold weather here in Northern California signals the coming of a very special time of year: citrus season! We are celebrating with the our Blood Orange American Sour. The blood orange is the darling of the citrus world with its trademark sweet and tart citrus flavors and a richer, berry-like sweetness. The beer pours a deep ruby red color in the glass and explodes with an amazing aroma of 35,000 fresh cut oranges.
The complex character of the blood oranges engulfs your palate, big and juicy. Subtle notes of American Oak dance in the background, playing nicely with the Brettanomyces but staying smooth and mellow after 18 months in our cellar. There is no question that the Blood Oranges are the stars of the show. Oak and vanilla become more apparent as the beer warms, and your mouth adjusts to the sweet and sour complexity of the blood oranges. Very drinkable and even a little refreshing, this one is hard to put down.

Hermitage Brewing Wild Blackberry Sour...$11.99 / 375ml
ABV: 6.5%
Our Wild Blackberry American Sour pours a lovely deep purple with a pinkish foam stand, with a slight haze that lets enough light through to beautifully illuminate your glass.
Aromas of oak, vanilla, light smoke, and dark fruits remind you of long aging in oak. The blackberries are noticeable on the nose but not overpowering, hinting at a jammy sweetness. The first sip, although puckering, softens quickly as the sweet and tart blackberries commingle with the complexity of the barrel maturation — notes of tannic oak, dark stone fruit, tobacco, vanilla, and a little horsey funk. The flavors continue to develop and change with each sip. The finish is fast and very dry, leaving your taste buds as aggressively as it arrived. Only the slightest blackberry sweetness remains between sips, reminding you to take another.

Plus this one....

Hermitage Brewing Bourbon Barrel Aged Ryetopia....$13.99 / 750ml

Ryetopia has been, literally, a year in the making. This beer is the first, of hopefully many, beers that will come from our barrel aging program.

Ryetopia was brewed with a generous portion of malted and crystal rye, which lends a spicy complexity to the beer. To balance out the malt flavors, Ryetopia was hopped with Bravo, Apollo, and Cascade hops. Aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels, this is a smooth sipper of a beer that will age well in the years to come. According to HBC Head Brewer Greg Filippi has this to say about the beer.

Ryetopia is our homage to the delicious yet often overlooked rye malt. We started with a big bold barleywine style ale, then beefed it up with a healthy dose of rye malt and crystal rye (about 16% of the total grist). Rye is known for its dry, slightly spicy flavor in beer. Crystal rye goes through a different malting process which converts some of the starches in the grain into simpler sugars before we add it to our mash. This results in a sweeter flavor, adding hints of licorice and toffee to the finished beer.

Cheers!
