Grape: Garnacha

image from Wikipedia

Garnacha:
Garnacha is the name for Grenache Spain.    Grenache is one of the most widely planted red wine grapes in the world.   If you have had Southern Rhone wines such Cotes du Rhone or Chateauneuf du Pape, you have had Grenache before.  In the Southern Part of Rhone Grenache usually is the dominant grape in the blend.   But, we are featuring the Spanish version this week - Garnacha.  In fact, Garnacha (Grenache) is believed to have originated in Northern Spain in a an area called Aragon.   It eventually spread to others areas of Spain and also into Southern France and the Rhone Region.   Grenache needs warm weather and a long growing season to fully ripen, it is one of the last grapes to be picked.    Garnacha can take on many faces from light and fruity to big, brawny, and alcoholic.  A big key for Garnacha for complexity and character is old vines.  Old vines and low yields really make this grape shine in Spain.    The wine we are featuring this week is one of our favorite Garnachas from Spain - IA from Carinena.  It is made from old vines, 50 years old, giving it the big fruit and complexity that you want in this amazing value at only $6.99 right now.  IA made from 100% Garnacha.  In other weeks, we will feature Grenache from France and Grenache from Italy (which is called Cannonau)
.

Ola Dubh 1991 Aged Cask - very limited

Very limited, only 12 bottles available
(I think only 24 bottles came to Missouri)

Harviestoun Ola Dubh 1991 Aged Cask Limited Edition...$13.99 / 11.2oz

10.5% ABV
BARREL-AGED BEER

Ola Dubh 1991 is the first in our annual Vintage Limited Edition Series (we only produced 20,000 bottles). It is aged exclusively in Highland Park casks from 1991 and is bottled at full strength – a mighty 10.5% abv.

Consistent with the core Ola Dubh range, the 1991 Vintage is deep dark brown, dense and oily; the nose is redolent of soy and molasses with winey overtones and a gentle, earthy, hop aroma. The 1991 Vintage is somewhat sweeter than its counterparts and has delicious smoky-sherry notes on the palate, the flavours deriving at least as much from the whisky-infused-wood as the spirit itself. As expected from its higher strength, this is a bigger and bolder number than its siblings.

The new "White Spirit" from Remy Martin V

Remy Martin V...$35.99
From the House of Rémy Martin, comes a unique ultra premium clear spirit, not a cognac, a new spirit category. This unprecedented eau-de-vie is made exclusively with the finest French grapes and slowly distilled in traditional copper pot stills which brings out the most elegant aromas and taste. Rémy Martin V is then ice-cold filtered for exceptional smoothness in cocktails or with your favorite mixer.
The Aromas and Flavors
Fruity notes: fresh fruity notes, hints of crisp grapes, pear and nuances of melon
Floral notes: nuances of fresh mint
Texture:  Smooth
Finish: Balanced subtle finish
Although delightful on its own, ice cold or over ice, it was born to be mixed. It is simply perfect with any mixer or prepared into any cocktail.

Remy Martin Sidecar
1 1/2 oz. Rémy Martin VSOP
3/4 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. lemon juice

Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

Perennial Woodside Tripel

Perennial Woodside Belgian Tripel with Wild Honey...$13.99 / 750ml
9.1% ABV
Woodside is a Belgian Style Tripel brewed with Woodside Urban Honey produced locally in Maplewood, Missouri. The combination produces a beer with a very slight residual sweetness complemented by the spicy, fruity attributes of the yeast and a soft malt characteristic. While refreshing and deceptively drinkable, this brew does pack a punch with over 9% alcohol by volume.

Horny Goat Beers including Watermelon Wheat!

Watermelon Wheat!

Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat...$7.99 / 6pk
5.6% ABV | 19 IBUs
You asked and we listened. We’re showing our melons! The backbone of this brew is heavy on the wheat with just a touch of Vienna malt for complexity. We add real watermelon to our tanks during fermentation, leaving a fruity essence on the back end. German hops balance the fruit perfectly in this wheat ale for a slightly dry, extremely refreshing finish.

Horny Goat Stacked Milk Stout....$7.99 / 6pk
A true to form Milk Stout that is sweet and light. Roasted coffee and chocolate notes give way to a sweet finish of the milk sugar added during the boil.

Horny Goat Exposed Cream Ale...$7.99 / 6pk
5.3% ABV | 21 IBUs
A session beer in the truest sense, this smooth creamy ale brewed with pale malt, wheat, and oats is both refreshing and dangerously easy to chug.

Horny Goat Hopped Up ‘n Horny India Pale Ale...$7.99 / 6pk
6.3% ABV | 41 IBUs
This IPA has just the right amount of hop love. We finish this brew off by dry hopping it with fresh Cascade hops, giving it a wonderful fresh citrus finish.

Horny Goat Horny Blonde German Blonde Lager...$7.99 / 6pk
5.0% ABV | 20 IBUs
Lagers are an American tradition, and so are blondes. You’ll find this pale lager both bright and crisp up front, and perfectly balanced by a hint of German hops on the end.

Goose Island 25 Year Anniversary Ale

Basically they are calling it an Imperial Honkers Ale....
Goose Island
25 Year Anniversary Ale...$6.99 / 6 pack
For Goose Island's 25th Anniversary, Goose Island Brewmaster Brett Porter, former Goose Island Brewmaster Greg Hall, and Goose Island Pub Brewmaster Nick Barron co-created a unique new brew to celebrate the loyal fans that supported the company over the past 25 years. This special ale exhibits the rich malt and rustic hop flavors found in the English ales that originally inspired their founder, John Hall, to open Goose Island in 1988. Goose Island's Anniversary Ale comes in at 6.4 percent ABV..."We wanted to celebrate our 25th anniversary by bringing back an unreleased beer called 'Honker's Deluxe' that is pleasant to enjoy and a testament to our brewing team's goals," said Brewmaster Brett Porter. A Brewery Montage
Odell Brewing announces new variety 12 pack featuring Loose Leaf American Session Ale
Fort Collins, CO. – In May, 2013 Odell Brewing will release its first variety 12 pack, Montage. The new package will feature two brewery flagships, a seasonal offering, and a new brew, Loose Leaf American Session Ale.   Loose Leaf was developed on the brewery’s five barrel pilot system. The Odell brewers wanted to create a beer that was lighter in color, lower in alcohol content, but also flavorful and distinct. The final recipe is crisp and balanced with lower IBU's and a bright hop aroma. At 4.5% ABV, it’s delicate and refreshingly drinkable with a clean finish.  The brewery plans to issue three different versions of Montage mirroring its seasonal release schedule.   Each edition of the variety pack will include brewery favorites 90 Shilling and IPA, the current seasonal offering as well as a new limited release pilot system inspired brew.  “Montage gives our brewers a new avenue to share their innovations,” said Eric Smith, Director of Sales & Marketing for Odell Brewing. “Not only does it include our flagship offerings, but it also gives us the opportunity to share our seasonal brews, and it extends our creative pilot system inspired offerings beyond the brewery walls.”
