Bernheim / TWCP Single Barrel Wheat Whiskey!

The Wine and Cheese Place is proud to announce the release of
our first barrel of Bernheim 7 Year Wheat Whiskey!

We taste through barrels and chose the best of the lot!

Yes, this one counts towards the Elijah Craig 23 year old
and the Parker's Heritage Raffle

Bernheim / TWCP KY Straight Wheat Whiskey 7 Year Old Single Barrel...$26.99
TWCP 7 Year old Single Barrel has a gorgeous copper color. Vanilla dominates the nose, the flavor follows up with the vanilla, lots of caramel, sweet toasted oak and even some spiciness. The finish is the star, it is very warming and very lingering. Great barrel.

At its launch, Bernheim Original Straight Wheat Whiskey was the first truly new variety of American straight wheat whiskey introduced since Prohibition. Heaven Hill Master Distillers saw an opportunity to give today's whiskey connoisseurs a unique taste experience. Bernheim was the only straight whiskey to use winter wheat as the primary grain in its mashbill, giving it a soft, sweet flavor and medium finish.

Today, on the front of the bottle, Bernheim proudly displays its finest attributes: Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey, small batch, and a 7 year age statement. With an age statement of 7 years, Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey truly is well worth the wheat. It is the only straight wheat whiskey distributed nationally. As a straight whiskey, it meets the same criteria as Bourbon or rye—aged a minimum of two years in new, charred oak barrels, distilled at less than 160 proof, and contains no coloring, flavoring or blending agents. As a small batch product, it is made with a dump of 100 barrels or less.

Nogne, Brewdog and Mikkeller

From Brewdog, Nogne and Mikkeller

Back in stock!

BrewDog Beer

only 16% ABV :)

Nogne / Brewdog / Mikkeller Horizon Tokyo Black...$10.99 / 8.5oz
This three way collaboration first made its appearance back in November 2010 and is back and better than ever. Sitting at a slightly lower ABV (15.2% compared to 16% originally) this beer is a combination of signature stouts; Nogne’s Dark Horizon, Mikkeller’s Black and our Tokyo*. This is everything you would expect and then some from such a decadent stout collaboration. Thick, black and viscous, this is a beer which just keeps giving as it warms, with more layers of chocolate, coffee and deep roasted malts coming through in different waves of emphasis, it transforms in your glass and is best indulged in slow.

ABV:16%
IBU's:75
Malts:XP, Carafa Special Type 1, Flaked Oats, Smoked, Crystal 150
Hops:Columbus, First Gold, Motueka, Hersbruck
Twist:Three killer beers rammed into one decadent abyss of flavour

Buffalo Trace / The Wine and Cheese Place SINGLE BARREL Bourbon

Our next barrel has arrived!!!

Buffalo Trace / TWCP Single Barrel Bourbon Volume XI...$21.99
Burnished gold in color, this bourbon brings a mélange of aromas to the nose: honey, vanilla, oak, toffee and a suggestion of coriander are all there. The body is big, and on the palate, this becomes a very spicy, masculine whiskey with a complex spicy mustiness and notes of leather, tobacco, overripe oranges and a surprising smokiness not often found in a bourbon.
"The finish is long and lush.

Anchor Zymaster Series No.6

Anchor Brewing No.6 Saaremaa Island Ale...$6.99 / 22oz
Anchor Brewing Releases Wild Indigenous Pale Ale, Saaremaa Island Ale for Zymaster® No. 6
Anchor Brewing Company announces the release of the sixth brew in their Zymaster® series, Saaremaa Island Ale.

Beer is a journey. Wine is defined by time – on the vine and in the bottle – and place, known as terroir. But beer, thanks to the miracles of modern science, can now be made virtually anywhere in any style, transporting the beer-lover to whatever time, place, and flavors he or she desires.

Anchor Brewing Company’s Zymaster No. 6: Saaremaa Island Ale is inspired by Anchor Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s journey to this Estonian island in the Baltic Sea. Inhabited for over 8,000 years, Saaremaa has been occupied by Germany, Denmark, Sweden, czarist Russia, and the Soviet Union. Its culture is a rich and fascinating melting pot. Yet few outside of Estonia have ever experienced its uniquely native beers. Mark enjoyed them so much that he not only brought back his memories of Saaremaa but some brewer’s yeast, as well. Inspired by Mark’s Estonian beer journey, Anchor’s Zymaster No. 6 takes you on a journey to Saaremaa by way of San Francisco.

“My wife and I were traveling through the Saaremaa Island countryside and we stopped at a bar,” said Anchor Brewmaster Mark Carpenter. “I asked for a local draught beer and the unfiltered brew I was served was completely unique. It was the native yeast that intrigued me and ultimately become the inspiration for Zymaster No. 6. After returning to San Francisco, the Estonian yeast was isolated and cultured becoming the cornerstone of our pale ale which is complimented by the medium bitterness from Northern Brewer, a favorite hop here at Anchor. The result is a one-of-a-kind brew that transports me back to that countryside bar. We hope you’ll enjoy this beer journey, as well.”

Zymaster No. 6 (6% ABV) is a medium-bitter pale ale with Old World hop flavor and aroma. Made with pale barley malt, it has a light body and clean finish. But what makes Saaremaa Island Ale exceptional is the native yeast that Brewmaster Mark Carpenter clandestinely brought back from his Estonian beer journey. It took months for Anchor to isolate and culture this special strain, so essential to the unique character of Saaremaa Island’s indigenous beers. Anchor’s trial brews confirmed that this yeast, reminiscent of some Belgian varieties, contributes a richly complex piquancy to this deliciously distinctive ale with overtones of freshly ground clove and allspice.

Watch Mark talk about the intriguing journey he and this special yeast strain had to endure to achieve this brew: Zymaster No. 6: Saaremaa Island Ale Video.

John Campbell,  Master Distiller, Laphroaig
Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is distilled on the remote island of Islay off the West coast of Scotland. John Campbell was named Laphroaig’s distillery manager in 2006, fulfilling a 12-year-old ambition. He is the youngest distiller on the island and the first Ileach (native of Islay) to run Laphroaig in its 190 year history. Since joining Laphroaig in 1994, John has worked across the whole distilling process both at Laphroaig and in distilleries including Tormore, Miltonduff and Ardmore. In July 2001 John returned from Speyside to take up the post as Laphroaig's Brewer. He has since taken the lead to upgrade the distillery and produce a number of successful limited edition bottlings to support the Feis Ile (Gaelic for Islay Festival). In addition to his role as Distillery Manager, John plays a lead role in promoting Laphroaig around the world. This includes running the distillery Friends of Laphroaig program, which today boasts a 280,000 strong membership from over 150 countries. John Campbell grew up in the shadow of Laphroaig, and now, he's running the distillery! Established in 1815, Laphroaig is the world’s best selling Islay malt whisky and is known to be the most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskies. The distillery still owns its own peat moors and produces its own maltings. Its whisky maturation warehouses directly face thhe sea, which contributes to the very characterful whisky it produces.

2012 Beaux Freres - more have arrived

Do not miss the great 2012 vintage from Oregon

2012 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir The Upper Terrace...$95.99
Deep, bright ruby. A complex, intensely perfumed bouquet evokes candied boysenberry, cherry-cola, incense and smoky minerals, with a sexy floral quality slowly emerging with aeration. Powerful, slow-to-unfold dark berry flavors show superb depth and energy, with an undercurrent of spiciness. Extremely young but there's serious potential here. Finishes sweet and long, leaving smoke, cola and rose pastille notes behind.
Rated 94+/100 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

This is the first time we have seen this one.....
2012 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Zena Crown...$95.99
100% French and we used about 40% first year barrels.
only 261 cases produced

Tasting Notes: The 2012 Beaux Freres–Zena Crown is imbued with aromas of nutmeg and Asian five spice stitched together with black current and wet granite; and a pallet that almost shimmers with lively acidity. What makes this wine special is how the acids and ripe tannins create an amazing mid palate and the extremely long finish.

Bargain from Argentina

2012 Alfredo Roca "Roca" Malbec / Merlot...$9.99
The 2012 Malbec/Merlot (also 60% Malbec and 40% Merlot) possesses a deeper ruby color and a similar character displaying a notion of wood intermixed with lots of black cherry, black currant and chocolate undertones, silky tannins, and a lush mouthfeel.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

"Tasting Notes: Shows a vibrant red color, with aromas of plums and ripe red fruit on the nose. The Malbec’s soft tannins and Merlot’s delicate fruit result in a wine of great intensity, elegance, and balance." - importer

Ferrari Carano Siena

2010 Ferrari Carano Siena Sonoma County Red....$21.99
"Ferrari-Carano's Italian heritage is reflected in this Sangiovese-based, easy-sipping blend. Select lots of grapes are chosen from our vineyards in Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys to create a beautifully-balanced and medium-bodied wine. SIENA has delicious aromas and flavors of fresh-picked blackberries, raspberry jam, cola, cinnamon and clove. A wine with nice acidity and refined, elegant texture, SIENA has tannins that are showy and evenly coat the palate." - Ferrari Carano

The Washington Post - Pappy Van Winkle

I like that the Van Winkles feel our method is the best!

We got a nice mention in The Washington Post --

Pappy Van Winkle’s aged bourbon can’t keep pace with consumer demand
by Karen Heller

"Many stores, such as the four Wine and Cheese Place locations around St. Louis, sell at the suggested price but conduct a lottery, which the Van Winkles believe is the fairest approach. Last year, 1,400 people entered the Missouri lottery for a score of bottles in the double digits." - Washington Post

Mariana - best buy in white!

2012 Herdade Do Rocim Branco Mariana...$14.99
The 2012 Branco Mariana is a tank-fermented blend of 60% Antao Vaz, 30% Arinto and (more unusually for the region) 10% Alvarinho. It comes in at 12.5% alcohol. This is awfully tasty, plump, juicy and quite delicious, but well-balanced as well. It doesn’t have a lot of verve, but it has a fresh feel to it and enticing fruit.
Rated 88/100 The Wine Advocate

Bargain White Burgundy from the great 2012 vintage.
2012 Domaine Chevau Macon Davaye Les Belouzes....$21.99
The cellars of the Domaine Cheveau are situated in the hamlet of Solutré-Pouilly in the heart of the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. The domaine was established by André Cheveau in 1950. His efforts were followed by his son, Michel, and now Michel’s two sons, Nicolas and Julien are actively running this fourteen (14) hectare estate. The vineyard holdings are predominantly located in and around Solutré-Pouilly but extend as well into Davayé in the Maconnais and Saint Amour in the Beaujolais.

The vineyards dedicated to Chardonnay are composed of the classic clay – limestone composition that provides the perfect ambience to produce the grand wines of Burgundy.

All harvesting at the Domaine Cheveau is done by hand and the wines are fermented and vinified parcel-by-parcel. Fermentation and aging is done either in barrel or stainless steel tank depending on the particular terroir of each site.
