Wolfgang is here!!!

Great Divide Wolfgang Doppelbock...$6.99 / 22oz
Originally called “liquid bread,” the Doppelbock style sustained monks through periods of penitent fasting. Wolfgang has heavenly notes of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee balanced by a subtle hop character. While its revered history evokes an appreciation of austerity and sacrifice, this Doppelbock is a rich luxury—no repentance required.
ABV.: 8%

"crème brûlée Imperial Milk Stout -- “a stout of great contention”
We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition. By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew." -- brewery

Perennial Beer Tasting plus a new label

Open house, no reservations needed...

Perennial Beer Tasting
with Kerry from Perennial
Friday July 13 from 4-6pm
We will taste all of the Perennial beers we have in stock plus we are planning to taste the Fantastic Voyage which is scheduled to be released before then.

"Fantastic Voyage is a harmonic melange of coconut and Imperial Milk Stout brought to us by brewer, Jim Leabig.  Loads of coconut, lactose and black malt balance each other to provide flavors reminiscent of chocolate covered coconut with a finish smooth like silk sheets.  Best enjoyed while listening to slow jams by candlelight."

A new label from Perennial just got approved....
stay tuned, we will of course tell you when it is released.

"Our Peach Berliner Weisse is a German-style tart wheat beer that's perfect for the hot summer months.  We violate traditional German beer production methods in every way by adding hundreds of pounds of Midwest-grown peaches to each batch.  We hope you enjoy the irreverence as much as we do."

Founders Press release:
Frangelic Mountain Brown To Be Founders Brewing Co.’s Second Backstage Series Release in 2012 Grand Rapids, Michigan, April 19, 2012 - Founders Brewing Co.’s Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education, Dave Engbers, announced today that Frangelic Mountain Brown would be the next release in the brewery’s 750mL Backstage Series, with availability beginning in July.
Part of what makes Founders Backstage Series so much fun, for both the brewery and consumers, is the period of speculation before the next release is announced. But the purpose of the series is to bring some of Founders’ most sought-after beers, which have been available primarily in the taproom and at a few select events, to a much larger audience. Frangelic Mountain Brown will be the fourth release in the series, joining Blushing Monk and Canadian Breakfast Stout from 2011 and Curmudgeon’s Better Half, which was released in February of this year.
Frangelic Mountain Brown is the quintessential taproom “one-off” beer: Founders’ brewers created the Mountain Brown series for their taproom in Grand Rapids in 2007. Frangelic Mountain Brown is the 16th iteration in the series of popular brown ales—and it likely won’t be the last. The singular characteristic of this beer comes from the use of hazelnut coffees in the brewing process. The beer has distinct aromatics with sweet and nutty flavors beautifully balanced. Founders is known for its beers made with coffee (i.e., the Breakfast Stout series), but this is both the brewery’s first brown ale and its first beer brewed with hazelnut coffees to be bottled. It clocks in at 9% ABV.
“The goal of the Backstage Series is to allow those beer enthusiasts who don’t have the ability to make it to our taproom an opportunity to experience some of the beers that, historically, have been limited to our taproom and a handful of high exposure events,” Engbers said. “Although these beers are not brewed in large volume, it is our intention to distribute them to all of our markets.”
The next beer to be released in the series later this year will be a celebration of the brewery’s fifteenth anniversary, though the style is yet-to-be revealed.

Dragon's Breath Lump Charcoal....$16.99 / 20lbs
From Missouri
Made from Hickory and Oak
This is one of the top rated and one of the few "Highly Recommended" Lump Charcoals by the Naked Whiz's Lump Charcoal Database

"The charcoal is quite easy light, taking 3 sheets in our chimney starter test. This is low compared to other charcoals. There was very little sparking and no popping while the charcoal burned in the chimney starter. The smoke had the classic smell of American hardwood charcoal.

In our maximum temperature test, the charcoal burned at 980 degrees which ranks very high compared to other charcoals. The fire spreads quickly and there was very little sparking and no popping while the charcoal was burning full tilt. When using a MAPP torch to start the charcoal, we did observer moderate sparking AND popping, so you should exercise care in using a torch to start this charcoal.

Finally, in our burn time test, Dragon Breath burned a very long time ranking Very High compared to other charcoals. In fact, it is one of the longest burning charcoals we've encountered. The ash production was Low compared to other charcoals.

In conclusion, we were very impressed with this charcoal. It is easy to light, has that great American hardwood smell, burns hot, burns long, and produces a low amount of ash.

Amager Bryghus

“[Located] near the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and the airport in the city of Taarnby. There is absolute no doubt that we run the safest brewing enterprise in the country as our premises used to be an air-raid shelter. Our premises have also been used for storing bibles, hence reigns an atmosphere of divine tranquility only otherwise found in Belgian monasteries.” -- brewery

"Amager’s top beers are all imperial stouts though they appear to be hard to come by. Amager Hr. Frederiksen, the crown jewel, only saw 400 bottles in its previous batch while another of their limited stouts only hit the 2,200 bottle mark. While the rare treasures may not come overseas, there is hope for some of the others in their specialty line like their regular Imperial Stout, which is billed to carry a 120+ IBU-level, and their Quadrupel, Hr. Papsø, named after the RateBeerian who hit an impressive 10,000 reviews. Even their flagship, Sundby Stout, has received praise in beer circles." ---www.beernews.org

A few new ones from Amager --Amager Bryghus Fru Frederiksen...$5.99 / pint
Rated 97/100 RateBeer.com
"It is said that behind every tough, blunt, and brutal man stands a chaste, loving, and not least wise woman, which naturally applies in the beer world as well. As our most famous beer; Hr. Frederiksen, is a strapping fellow who enjoys admiring his own muscles, Mrs. Frederiksen is a clever woman who very well knows that you can walk almost just as far by saving some of your energy even though you are not as strong. The lady, however, is not exactly a light beer, but is toned down a notch compared to the gentleman. Being a little sweeter and not so roasted although having plenty of black malt, chocolate malt, and roasted barley, she is actually not a petite girl. And note that the Centennial hops lash out at you with their 75 IBU. Welcome the lady – she is here to stay." -- label

Amager Bryghus Imperial Stout....$5.99 / pint
Rated 98/100 RateBeer.com

"It is hardly a secret that we at Amager Bryghus tend to care for Imperial Stouts - the finest and most noble of all beer styles. Actually, at the brewery we are at all times developing new variants of this noble drink. As always, we tend to add more of everything, which is also the case with this beer: it took no less than eight different malts and three different hops, and we are especially proud to present the king of hops; Zeus. Amager Imperial Stout is a beer as black as original sin itself, topped with the most dense and creamy light brown head. Clear notes of coffee and chocolate, but they appear from the malt exclusively, whereas the scent is rich of vanilla. In all regards Amager Imperial Stout is an extreme beer for the demanding and experienced beer lover, who is not afraid of challenging his senses.
Bitterness: 140+ IBU" -- label

Also in stock--
Amager Bryghus Batch One Danish Barley Wine...$5.99 / pint
"With this our special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with our devotion to a solid malt profile combined with delicate American aroma hops. Batch One is an American Strong Ale characterized by its vast full body and generous amounts of hops. In the glass the beer has a reddish brown colour with a coppery glow, while the beige coloured head leaves a nice lacing in the glass. In this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus like character and leaves a solid bitterness although it is balanced by sweet caramel malt. Amager Batch One is a potent beer which is not afraid to flex its muscles in both the alcohol and in its bitterness. Bitterness: 80+ IBU" -- Brewery
Rated 94 percentile on www.ratebeer.com

Amager Bryghus Hr. Frederiksen Imperial Stout...$5.99 / pint
Rated 100/100 RateBeer
"When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen's humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm. We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today. Bitterness: 81 IBU" -- brewery

Amager Bryghus Sundby Classic Danish Stout...$5.99 / pint
"Sundby Stout is a classic ”Stout” and yet it dares to be different and challenging. As soon as the beer is opened and you smell it, you sense that this stout smells differently than what you would expect. Late in the brewing process we have added the noble, American dried hops such as Nugget, Centennial, and Cascade, which provide flower-like notes that lay on top of the typical stout characteristics of burned malt that adds lightness and freshness to the beer. Sundby Stout appears dark as the night, while the head is dense, light brown – almost cappuccino-like creamy, as your tongue sense both malt sweetness and hints of bitter, dark chocolate and English liquorice. The sweetness, however, is rightfully challenged from the hard roasted malt and the split, un-malted and roasted barley, which both contribute to the “burned” touch of our stout." -- brewery
