The first class bouquet is pure and already impressively complex, delivering scents of black cherries, sweet dark berries, raw cocoa, a lovely mix of spice tones, dark soil elements, a touch of mustard seed and a nicely discreet base of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, refined in profile and beautifully sappy at the core, with excellent complexity, ripe, seamless tannins and lovely backend mineral drive on the focused and perfectly balanced young finish. This is gorgeous wine. 2023-2060+.

The 2017 aux Gravains from Domaine Pavelot is another absolutely stellar young wine in the making. The aromatic constellation here is pure and elegant, wafting from the glass in a superb mix of red and black cherries, a touch of red currant, Savigny spices, raw cocoa, orange peel, gamebird, stony soil elements, cedar and a nice topnote of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is deep, full and very transparent in profile, with sappy core of very pure fruit, great length and grip and a youthfully complex, vibrant and beautifully precise finish. This will need a bit of bottle age to really start to hit on all cylinders, but it is going to be stellar when it is ready to drink. 2024-2065.

The youthful nose was still in the process of absorbing its serving of new oak, but will do so seamlessly with a bit more age, and offers up a fine blend of black plums, red and black cherries, pigeon, dark soil tones, raw cocoa, a bit of bonfire, cedar and an exotic topnote of licorice. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely reserved out of the blocks, with an excellent core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, soil-driven and complex finish. This is serious juice. 2026-2065+.

I first tasted the Massican wines last year and was hugely impressed with the 2017 line up. A few weeks back I was able to taste through the 2018's and winemaker Dan Petroski has hit it out of the park. Dan's day job is winemaker at Larkmead whose wines are deserving of their own email, but it is his passion project Massican Wines that truly impressed me.

Made from 48% Tocai Friulano, 41% Ribolla Gialla and 11% Chardonnay, this is fresh and floral in tones of lemon rind, white flower and green apple. Fermented in both French oak and stainless steel, it is structured yet vibrant, gorgeously aromatic and remarkably long-lasting on the palate.

If you are a member of the BRC (Beer Reward Club) and purchased a bottle of Merci on your account and did NOT get an email this morning - you still have a chance to get a bottle. We have 60 bottles available starting tonight at 3:30 pm. We will have a list with your name on it and you can get a bottle while they last. Your name must be on the list.
60 bottles and there are 140 people on the list, so you have a good chance to get one if you get here on time. FIRST COME at 3:30 until gone , no reservations.
This list will be at the desk in the Whiskey room.

On the night of the tasting we will put everyone's name in a jar that purchased 6 or more (for every 6 bottles you purchased you get a raffle ticket) and pull out 30 names for a chance to purchase one of these bottles from the above list.
- 30 names will be drawn on July 26th
- You will only be able to purchase 1 bottle (even if you name is drawn multiple times)
- Every 6 bottles of Merci purchased count as a raffle ticket
- You do not have to be present to get your bottle.
- You will not get to choose which bottle, the bottles will be listed and names will be drawn and you will get the next bottle on the list available.
- All Side Project Merci purchases count from September 1, 2018 until July 24, Wednesday night at 7pm.
- If your name is drawn, you must be able to pick up your bottle with 7 days of the drawing. Pick up only, no shipping.
Please do not call or email about how many bottles of Merci you have purchased, it would be too much for us to handle. We did print out a report with the names of everyone in the BRC that purchased and how many bottles you purchased. You can go to one of our four locations and they can look you up on the list at the register. Just ask at one of our four locations.
