"We grow with nature, not against it" -- Dry Dock
Dry Dock Farm Heritage Breed Farm Fresh Eggs...$4.99 / per dozen

What is Heritage Breed? Basically many of these "heritage" breeds of chickens (and other animals) were becoming threatened because the large egg producers were favoring chickens that produced a quantity of eggs and not quality. To quote The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC), "Modern food production now favors the use of a few highly specialized breeds selected for maximum output in a controlled environment. Many traditional livestock breeds have lost popularity and are threatened with extinction. These traditional breeds are an essential part of the American agricultural inheritance." Some of the Heritage breeds that Dry Dock has includes: Ameraucana Chickens - "Easter Egg Chicken" -- produces blue and green eggs Barred Plymouth Rock Chickens -- Brown Eggs - pre-World War II - this was the most popular and most likely the eggs being eaten. Rhode Island Red Chicken -- Light to Dark Brown Eggs New Hampshire Chicken (see picture from Wikipedia above) -- Light brown eggs "Dry Dock Farm is 3 acres of rich river bottom land near the village of Silex, Missouri. We purchased our farm in 2005. We are remodeling our turn of the century farm house and barn. We grow Heirloom vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Our Heirloom tomatoes are bursting with that old time “picked from Grandma’s garden flavor”. We grow our produce and flowers using bio-intensive, no chemicals, no GMO seeds, and we enrich our soil with natural minerals, cover crops, worm castings and compost. We also raise Heritage chickens, turkeys, geese. ducks and assorted other poultry. Our birds are raised on pasture with fresh air and sunshine. They are fed a vegetarian diet, to provide you with the best tasting farm fresh eggs. Dry Dock Farms runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) In basic terms, CSA consists of a pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Members or shareholders of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer’s salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm throughout the growing season as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land. (USDA definition) Read more about CSA

Prichard's Distillery

NEW! Prichard's Sweet Lucy Bourbon CREAM Liqueur...$21.99
This is a new addition to the regular Sweet Lucy -- now with Cream! -- It is delicous!

Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey (80 Proof) ...$42.99
"With the same focus on quality as all our spirits, Benjamin Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey has been reviewed with great acclaim. Steeped in Celtic origins, Benjamin Prichard’s Single Malt whisky is distilled according to true Irish traditions; its rich malt flavors truly reflecting the character of the finest single malt whiskies. This superb whiskey has been distilled in our traditional copper pot stills and aged in our small, fifteen gallon barrels." - Prichards

Prichard's Double Barreled Bourbon...$59.99
Jim Murray 2009 Whiskey Bible provides the following:
“A classy effortless delivery. The corn-rye integration oozes sophistication and the vanilla-themed oak offers the perfect background. Immediate bitter sweet character celebrates both a raisin-fruity juiciness and a much firmer, burned-honeycombed middle; complex, classy and challenging; thuddingly firm with limited yield. Spices from the rye try to probe the wall but this is the metalled hoof a Kentucky thoroughbred; a very different bourbon that ticks the boxes as they should but throws in a few curve balls for the palate to negotiate.”

The high quality expensive taste of Benjamin Prichard’s Double Barrel is no accident. Our bourbon is created using a unique, labor intensive and yes, expensive process. Bourbon is generally barreled at a relatively high 125 proof. However, the final bottle proof may be as low as 80. The question then is “How does the bourbon get from 125 proof to 80 proof?” The answer is that the whiskey has been watered down before you screw off the cork and water dilutes flavor. Our bourbon is taken from 120 proof to 95 proof and re-barreled in new charred oak barrels to reinforce the barrel notes that bourbon is so famous for. To our knowledge there is no other distillery that utilizes this process. Benjamin Prichard’s Double Barreled Bourbon is truly special and has captured the attention of our customers who are virtually demanding that we produce more of this remarkable bourbon.

Sweet Lucy Bourbon Liqueur (70 Proof)...$22.99
Sweet Lucy’s legacy has been flowing up and down the Mississippi flyway for years, warming the bodies and souls of outdoorsman for generations. Born in a duck blind and a frequent companion on duck hunts, variations of Sweet Lucy were generally homemade elixirs of peaches, oranges and apricots with lots of sugar and whiskey. Great pride would often be displayed by its maker as the bottle made its rounds for a sip among friends.

Although you may no longer find these same homemade remedies for the chill of a cold winter morning in a duck blind, Prichard's Distillery, Inc. has captured the essence of the original Sweet Lucy. Benjamin Prichard’s Sweet Lucy is an officially licensed product of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. Along with the noted Ducks Unlimited Logo the following statement is proudly printed on each bottle of Sweet Lucy:

With each purchase of Sweet Lucy, Prichard's Distillery will make a contribution to DUCKS Unlimited for their ongoing wetland conservation efforts throughout North America. Always remember, after the hunt, the best mixer for Sweet Lucy is…just good friends.

Founders next big release...

Watch for it..........
Scheduled to arrive July 2nd --
(no pre-arrival reservations, will let you know when it arrives)

Founders Press release:
Frangelic Mountain Brown To Be Founders Brewing Co.’s Second Backstage Series Release in 2012 Grand Rapids, Michigan, April 19, 2012 - Founders Brewing Co.’s Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education, Dave Engbers, announced today that Frangelic Mountain Brown would be the next release in the brewery’s 750mL Backstage Series, with availability beginning in July.
Part of what makes Founders Backstage Series so much fun, for both the brewery and consumers, is the period of speculation before the next release is announced. But the purpose of the series is to bring some of Founders’ most sought-after beers, which have been available primarily in the taproom and at a few select events, to a much larger audience. Frangelic Mountain Brown will be the fourth release in the series, joining Blushing Monk and Canadian Breakfast Stout from 2011 and Curmudgeon’s Better Half, which was released in February of this year.
Frangelic Mountain Brown is the quintessential taproom “one-off” beer: Founders’ brewers created the Mountain Brown series for their taproom in Grand Rapids in 2007. Frangelic Mountain Brown is the 16th iteration in the series of popular brown ales—and it likely won’t be the last. The singular characteristic of this beer comes from the use of hazelnut coffees in the brewing process. The beer has distinct aromatics with sweet and nutty flavors beautifully balanced. Founders is known for its beers made with coffee (i.e., the Breakfast Stout series), but this is both the brewery’s first brown ale and its first beer brewed with hazelnut coffees to be bottled. It clocks in at 9% ABV.
“The goal of the Backstage Series is to allow those beer enthusiasts who don’t have the ability to make it to our taproom an opportunity to experience some of the beers that, historically, have been limited to our taproom and a handful of high exposure events,” Engbers said. “Although these beers are not brewed in large volume, it is our intention to distribute them to all of our markets.”
The next beer to be released in the series later this year will be a celebration of the brewery’s fifteenth anniversary, though the style is yet-to-be revealed.

New vintage of Baladin Sour

Order Baladin online now

"Our search for the world’s most unique beers has brought us to Piozzo, right outside of Torino, Italy. In this village of 1,000 inhabitants, directly across from the town hall, lies Le Baladin, an extremely unusual brewpub and microbrewery. “Baladin” is a French term referring to a “traveling minstrel.” The owner, Teo Musso, thought that this would be a fitting name for his brewery as the townspeople are known for moving around, especially between Italy and France. Upon visiting the brewery and meeting Teo, one finds that he is a very entertaining minstrel and has, thus, chosen the perfect name for his place. Teo studied at some of the best small breweries throughout Europe in order to learn his craft. He has worked most closely with another eccentric B. United International supplier, Jean-Louis Dits of Brasserie a Vapeur. Like Jean-Louis, Teo loves experimentation and never works by the books.

Baladin Super Baladin Sour Edition 2008...$16.99 / 750ml

Descrition of the"non" sour edition
"The Super Baladin is the masterpiece of the brewery and is most often the favorite among the customers at Le Baladin. It originated from an old recipe created toward the end of the 9th century following the style of the Belgian abbey beers. It is similar to a Belgian triple. The twist with this beer is that an English yeast strain is used for primary fermentation. Afterwards, it is bottle-conditioned for two months using a Belgian strain." -- importer

Dansk Mead all in stock

Dansk Mjod
"This artisan metheglin style Danish mead has hibiscus, which gives its soft, citruslike flavour and very floral aroma. Its finish is hoppy-dry, spicey, and very warming
Mead is probably the oldest known alcoholic beverage in the world. From Europe to Australia mead has been a popular drink, dating back to long before Viking Times. One of the earliest references to mead can be found in the Hindu's of India's holy books, the Veda books, which date back 4000 years and possibly even earlier than that. The oldest known recipe for mead to be written down in the Nordic countries was in 1520 by the Archbishop Olaus Magnus. The recipe comprised of water, honey, hops and brewers yeast, and concludes, that "on the eight day - or earlier in emergencies - the mead may be drunk, but the longer it is left, the purer, better and healthier it will be."Our products are brewed based on a recipe from about year 1700, and the ingredients are pure and 100 pct. natural - guaranteed free from additives of any kind. Honey is the major and most important item in the recipe." -- importer

2007 BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien...$23.99 / 750ml
2010 BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien....$23.99 / 750ml

"Boldly treading the boundary between port, wine and beer, l'Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien is a unique ale aged in wooden casks which have been used for several years before to age Merlot, Merlot Cabernet, Whisky and then Grappa. It manages to merge into L'Abbaye all the complex aromas of a vintage red wine along with the delicate harmony and flavors of the wood and its former contents. This process requires close monitoring of the beer's evolution. The final version is blended from different casks, to ensure optimal balance, complexity and enjoyment! A mere one thousand bottles have been earmarked for the US market in 2006. [Thus named in fond memory of Bon-Chien, the late brewery cat, deceased in June 2005, whose antics were very popular with brewery visitors] Try it with pan-fried duck breast or foie gras déglacéed with Modena balsamic vinegar… or with a high cocoa contents dark chocolate."--importer

De Dolle from Belgium

Back in stock at Forsyth and online

De Dolle Special Extra Export Stout...$5.49 / 11.2oz
Rated 98 on RateBeer
Stout is one of the oldest styles of beer, but is still very popular in English speaking countries. Even though stout isn't a traditional Belgian beer style De Dolle Brewers have created a "Belgianized" version of it for B.United.  The stout is brewed only a couple of times each year, with roasted malt, caramel malt and pale malt, Nugget hops and the same fermentation as Oerbier.

The combination of all that is a bitter, tart beer, with character. Unlike modern more typical stout, this beer has high alcohol, tart flavors, and a big, dry body. It has a dark, almost black chocolate color. The nose is musky, slightly sweet and spicy. Flavors of chocolate , coffee and some hazelnut notes on the palate intermingle with notes of licorice. The enhanced, Belgian beer style gives it a high carbonation level that's very lively. It finishes with a dry explosion of black espresso flavors.

De Dolle Boskeun...$5.49 / 11.2oz
Rated 98 on RateBeer
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who started the brewery. As a home brewer, some of his favorite beer to produce were strong blond ales. The word Boskeun means "rabbit", or "hare", so they decided to brew one of his favorite types of beer as a celebration of Easter.

Boskeun is one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and re-fermented with native honey. The label shows a lucky rabbit enjoying his namesake brew!

Tornado Surviving Bourbon

Very, very limited, and never to be produced again....

Colonel E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving....$61.99 / 750ml
"On Sunday evening, April 2, 2006, a severe storm tore through Central Kentucky, damaging two Buffalo Trace Distillery aging warehouses. Fortunately, no one was injured and Warehouse "B" was empty at the time. However, Warehouse "C" sustained significant damage to its roof and north brick wall. Warehouse "C" is one of the most treasured warehouses on property, built by Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. in 1881. While the strong storm raged across the Distillery, the bourbon barrels stood strong, never budging from their resting spots. That summer, the barrels patiently waited while the roof and wall repairs took place. The barrels sat exposed to the Central Kentucky climate for months as the sun and wind took their toll. During the summer of 2006 weather inevitably contributed to increased evaporation, wood interaction and rich flavors in this bourbon whiskey. The angel's share amounted to an astonishingly high 63.9% loss. On nose, the aroma of dried fig and cloves jump from the glass initially along with plenty of baking spice and an oaky dryness provides balance that quickly builds anticipation for a taste. A small sip fills the mouth with jam-like cooked fruit, vanilla and a touch of smoke. The finish quickly builds in dark spices until the end as hints of tobacco leave you with the final impressions of this bourbon." -- distillery

Release date: Summer 2012
"You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten.  You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar.  Where can you go from there?  Where? [pause] These go to eleven." - Nigel Tufnel, This is Spinal Tap

"To some ears, the term, "imperial pilsner" might sound like an oxymoron.  How can a style as cleanly balanced and refined as a pilsner be "amped up" to imperial status?  Pilsner is arguably, just fine the way it is.    Where do you go from there?  The answer, of course: You go to eleven.
With its classic recipe and impeccable craftmanship, Reverb Imperial Pilsner echoes our Collaboration Number 1 Imperial Pilsner, produced in 2009 when with esteemed Orval brewmaster Jean-Marie Rock.  Like its predecessor, this new Summer Seasonal release is a study in delicately balanced contrasts.  A strakly simple recipe, using only Pilsner malt and Saaz hops, combined with a painstakingly complex brewing process, produce a beer of subtle elegance.  The venerable technique of "first wort hopping," -- adding hops at the beginning of the boil and allowing them to steep for a much longer time---gives the beer a refined hop aroma and flavor.  Pilsner malt makes a clear yet restrained statement up front, answered by try steady, harmonious hum of hop bitterness, traces of which linger in the dry, crisp finish.   Our Reverb Imperial Pilsner pairs melodiously with grilled seafood or chicken, or a wide variety of cheeses.  Really, though, it goes great with whatever is being served backstate.

An exciting release from Perennial!!!!

Thanks very much to everybody at Perennial

Perennial Devil's Heart of Gold
Wheat Wine Style Ale aged in bourbon barrels

Release Date --  May 18th

More info....
The name "Devil's Heart of Gold" comes from what they call the "Devil's Cut".   When a bourbon ages in a barrel, a portion of the bourbon evaporates - this is called the "Angel's share".   Another portion of the bourbon gets absorbed into the new oak barrel -- this is called the "Devil's cut".    Therefore, the Heart of Gold beer aging in the barrel starts to absorb back some of the Devil's Cut and hence the name "Devil's Heart of Gold".

Perennial took their Heart of Gold and aged it in a Knob Creek 9yr Old Barrel back in October 2011.   The beer will have been resting for 7 months in barrel!
