A great Bonarda

Hector Meli - Argentina

Hector Meli is the oldest winery in Tupungato. Grown at more than 3,000 feet above sea level, high in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, the wines offer a purity of fruit, depth, and definition that is unmatched for the price!

Bonarda -- What is this?  It is a grape grown mostly in Italy and Argentina.  Many think it is actually the same grape as Charbono that you find in Caifornia and Washington.   Bonarda was  the most planted grape in Argentina until very recently -- of course, it is Malbec now.

Great Argentine red...
2010 Hector Meli Bonarda...$12.99
"Dark ruby, spice box, red and black fruit aromas, easygoing, no hard edges, drink now – 3 years." -- Rated 89/100 The Wine Advocate

Tasting Notes: Offers plummy, floral aromas, with smooth, polished tannins and a subtle note of oak leading to a long, lingering finish.

Serve With: Enjoy with boldly flavored pizza, pasta or red meat preparations, or a wide range of flavorful stews such as ratatouille or chili

Hanssens Oude Gueuze is back

Back in stock after a long absence...

Hanssens Oude Gueuze...$13.99 / 375ml
Hanssens Oude Gueuze...$17.99 / 750ml
Lambic
"Hanssens Oude Gueuze has a hazy gold color and an aroma of wet wool, preserved lemons, vanilla, and earth. The palate is sharply tangy and dry, opening up to a marvelously complex display of citrus and damp earth in the center. The finish is miles long and juicily acidic, with a final flourish of fruit. This would be brilliant wit ha good ceviche packed with shrimp and avocado."

A new Holy Grail...

Monty Python's Holy Grail Black Knight's Reserve....$4.39
Holy Grail Dark is a full flavoured strong Yorkshire ale brewed using the unusual Yorkshire Square fermentation system. The result is a well balanced, deep chestnut coloured ale.

With it's distinctive roast malt, Golding hops and banana fruit aromas, Holy Grail Dark has a strong and refreshingly dry finish of hops and roasted barley malt.

ABV 5.7%

    Blushing Monk

    sold out again

    Founders Blushing Monk....$12.99 / 750ml

"The first “Backstage Series” release is sure to put a smile on the face of Founders fans. “We haven’t produced this product in over four years and people have been begging for it—so this is the perfect time to bring Blushing Monk back to market.” Blushing Monk is a decadent Belgian Raspberry Ale that was last produced in 2007, and is still highly sought after." - Founders Press Release

    Avery Maharaja

In stock now at Forsyth and online
Avery Maharaja Imperial IPA Batch #14...$6.99 (22oz)
    Bottled 6/30/11
    Rated 100/100 on RateBeer
Beer Style: Imperial India Pale Ale
Hop Variety: Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial and Chinook
Malt Variety: Two-row barley, caramel 120L, victory
    OG: 1.090 ABV: 10.24% IBUs: 102
    Color: Dark Amber
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.

    Sprecher Brewing Craft Soda

We cannot get Sprecher beers from Wisconsin here in Missouri, but we now have their craft soda in stock now at The Wine and Cheese Place on Forsyth.

They all come in 4 pack - 16 oz bottles

    Sprecher Orange Cream
Enjoy this super citrus drink of natural orange flavors, honey and vanilla for a creamy, dreamy taste experience that's over the moon. In your wildest dreams, cows roam the orange groves in search of a starry spot for sitting and sipping a succulent citrus soda. And as with all of our sodas, it's caffeine free. For your optimum enjoyment, serve in frosted mugs.

    Sprecher Ravin' Red
We have searched Wisconsin far and wide for the finest all-natural ingredients, brewed them in our gas-fired kettle and bottled this gourmet soda just for you. Pure cherry juice is skillfully combined with the natural essence of real cranberries and blended with honey and ginseng for a high-energy soft drink that is the perfect balance of sweet and tart.

    Sprecher Puma Cola
All Natural Puma Kola, is fire-brewed in our unique gas-fired kettle for distinctive flavor and character. Each batch is made from scratch using the finest ingredients; kola extract, real vanilla, a pinch of cinnamon and pure honey. You will roar with delight at this wonderfully rich and flavorful soft drink.

    Sprecher Cherry Cola
Sprecher Cherry Cola is a masterful blend of Wisconsin’s own Door County cherry juice, raw honey, the finest cola extract, and a handful of select spices cooked to perfection in our gas-fired brew kettles then lightly carbonated for refreshment that tickles the taste buds with an array of pleasing flavors. One sip and we’re sure you’ll agree – cherry cola has never tasted this good!

    Goose Island SODAs!!!

We just got in stock Goose Island Beer Co. SODA!!!!
    In stock at Forsyth

    Goose Island Orange Cream Soda
Notes From The Fountain: There are very few things that would dare assume to make our Orange Cream Soda any better than it has always been. Well, we found some thing…ALL-NATURAL flavor! This classic flavor has evolved into the best tasting Orange Cream Soda we could ever imagine! The tartness of the Valencia orange flavor is perfectly balanced with the creamy vanilla notes. The result: a huge smile on your face." -- Goose Island
    Goose Island Vanilla Cream Soda
Notes From The Fountain:  You’ve been asking for it…so here it is! We couldn’t be happier to introduce our all-naturally flavored Vanilla Cream Soda! We took your typical cream soda and then amped it up, Goose Island style. This flavor was cultivated to deliver one of the richest tastes ever bottled. Our Vanilla Cream Soda is a rich golden color. The taste is a blend of vanilla bean with a hint of bourbon. You’ll be blown away with the creaminess. This decadent gem will make you feel a little naughty, but you’ll get over it. -- Goose Island
    Goose Island Root Beer
Notes From The Fountain: Chicago’s visitors are awestruck by its towering skyscrapers, iconic bridges, and breathtaking lakefront, but locals never miss a chance to enjoy one of its lesser known but equally memorable experiences…a Goose Island Chicago Style Root Beer. Made with 100% CANE SUGAR, naturally caffeine-free and never pasteurized, it’s unlike any of those syrupy concoctions you’ll find in an aluminum can or two liter bottle. Rich, creamy, and thick in tradition, each sip of our Chicago Style Root Beer reveals a flavor as unique as the city it’s named for. Just like Chicago, we’re sure you’ll find yourself wanting to visit it again and again.

Our recipe was originally brewed at the Goose Island Clybourn Brewpub and is unchanged today. While drinking a bottle you’ll notice the vanilla notes up front and wonder what familiar taste you’re getting at the end. The wintergreen finish will cause you to reach for that second bottle. Maybe over some vanilla ice cream this time?
As the company’s firstborn, Goose Island Root Beer expresses its own personality with a new package that plays on classic Chicago iconography while making it clear who the star is in the soda line up." -- Goose Island
    Goose Island Concord Grape
Notes From The Fountain:  Our Grape Soda has been re-formulated to deliver an uncanny match while using only all-natural flavor. We avoided that super-sweet candy tasting grape flavor and now are able to deliver a grown up Concord Grape Soda that will put a big smile on your face as you are transported to a memory of childhood. Concord Grape Soda contains no caffeine. You’ll want to immediately pick up the soda when you see the rich and deep color of purple. As the cap comes off the bottle you’ll notice the highly aromatic scent of the all-natural Concord Grape flavor. The taste packs a powerful punch with a bit of tartness and finishes smooth.  -- Goose Island

    100% Cane Sugar

    Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds....

If you have not tried our Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds, you do not know what you are missing.  We have more people hooked on these than any other candy in the store....

come in for a taste if you dare....you will be hooked....

We sell them by the pound near the register.

    2009 Burgundy

2009 is being heralded as the best vintage since 2005 in Burgundy. Looks to be not quite as classic as 2005, but apparently still a great vintage.
They are just starting to arrive. These are now in stock at Forsyth.

    2009 Bouchard Beaune "Grèves - l'Enfant Jésus" 1er...$91.99
Tasting note: Moderate wood sets off very ripe aromas of black cherry, plum and wet stone that also characterizes the extremely rich yet beautifully detailed flavors that possess superb intensity as well as fine complexity on the tension-filled and wonderfully persistent finish. Terrific. Comments: Sweet spot Outstanding"
    Rated 91-94/100 Allen Meadows' Burghound

Bouchard Nuits St.-Georges "Les Cailles" 1er...$89.99
"Tasting note: A very ripe, indeed even slightly surmature nose of mild reduction, mocha and menthol aromas introduces extremely rich yet reasonably delineated medium weight plus flavors that are unexpectedly cool and tension-filled on the dusty and palate staining finish. Notwithstanding the cool impression of the finish, this is riper than I like and it affects the expression of the underlying terroir."
    Rated 89-91/100 Allen Meadows' Burghound

    2009 Bouchard Pommard...$48.99
Tasting note: Proust said that about 60% of this blend was from domaine fruit. An expressive nose speaks of pretty red berry fruit with subtle earth and sauvage hints that carry over to the rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that are shaped by moderately rustic tannins and a notably firm finish where a hint of wood surfaces. This is quite good but note that patience will be required, especially for a villages-level wine.  Comments: Outstanding
    Rated 89/100 Allen Meadows' Burghound

This Burghounds's top rated Lamarche Clos de Vouegeot -- better than the 2005
2009 Lamarche Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru....$152.99
"Tasting note: Wood spice and pungent earth notes add breadth to the ripe and largely red fruit-based nose. The big, powerful and concentrated flavors possess plenty of sap that helps to buffer the mildly rustic and very firm tannic spine that shapes the driving and energetic finish. This should be excellent in time but it will need plenty of it."
    Rated 91-94/100 Allen Meadows' Burghound

2009 Rene LeClerc Gevrey-Chambertin "Combe Aux Moines" 1er...$77.99
Note: from 80+ year old vines. Tasting note: A brooding and almost mute nose allows only glimpses of an earthy mélange of wild red and blue berry fruit aromas that are followed by rich, full and quite serious medium-bodied flavors that possess both good volume and fine length on the balanced if not especially complex finish.
    Rated 89-91/100 Allen Meadows' Burghound

Sierra Nevada Collaboration wiht The Abbey of New Clairvaux
    Ovila Saison....$10.99
"For centuries, the monastic tradition has followed the rule of St. Bendict -- Ora et Labora (prayer and work.) This Saison farmhouse ale is in honor of the noble labor in which the monks engage.  Hazy blonde in color, these rustic ales are designed to be complex and contemplative but also refreshing and drinkable after a day in the fields.   With earthy and spicy aromas this Saison has notes of green grass, and a faint citrus tang.   The body is light and layered with fruit and spice accents and a dry, peppery, and refreshing finish.

    Clos Lambrays

In stock at Forsyth and also online now

2008 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru....$169.99
"Floral, smoke and spice aromas lead off, with fresh berry and mineral flavors adding depth and dimension. This is elegant, with class and breed, unfolding its layers right through the lengthy aftertaste. Best from 2014 through 2028. 100 cases imported. –BS"
    Rated 94/100 The Wine Spectator

The 2008 Clos des Lambrays smells of resin, incense, sassafras, and myriad fresh red berries; comes to the palate with terrific brightness, lift, pungency, and verve; and finishes with vibrant spiciness, exuberant sheer juiciness, and admirable clarity. With abundant but fine tannins, I suspect it will justify at least a decade’s attention, during which perhaps mineral and carnal complexities will emerge that are for now at most merely hinted-at.
    Rated 93/100 The Wine Advocate

Tasting note: The deeply pitched nose evidences obvious earth and floral influences on the mostly ripe red pinot fruit aromas that complement the rich, pure and detailed medium weight flavors that culminate in a dusty and mouth coating finish where the supporting tannins display a clear stem influence. This is an excellent wine though it may not be to everyone's taste due to the obvious stem character.
    Rated 93/100 Burghound
