Blue Note Juke Joint Survivor Barrels
In June of 2019, the rickhouse that stored much of Blue Note’s inventory collapsed in a terrible summer storm, spilling thousands of barrels and millions of dollars into the muck and mud. Most of the barrels were destroyed by the incredible force of nearly 10 million pounds crumbling six stories to the ground.

We thought all was lost, but a special few somehow survived the disaster. Surviving the collapse, however, turned out to be only the beginning of the barrels’ journey.

For the next four months, the barrels were left exposed to the elements before the wreckage could be properly assessed and cleaned up. In these ensuing months, the sweltering summer heat bore down upon the barrels day after day, darkening the outside and forcing the bourbon inside incredibly deep into the oak. Several thunderstorms passed through as well, pummeling the barrels for days, causing their bands to later rust and break. As summer faded into fall, the nights grew colder, forcing the whiskey back out of the now worn oak. After the wreckage was cleaned up and every barrel was assessed, the company found that indeed some had survived.

Like these barrels, we have all faced incredible hardships across the course of the pandemic as the safety, stability, and comfort of the shelter we took for granted collapsed all around us. In an effort to celebrate life and perseverance, we have curated from our special lot of survivor barrels a select few barrels to release to the market under our new Blue Note Bourbon Uncut label. Going forward, not every barrel of Blue Note Bourbon Uncut will be a survivor barrel. Therefore, if you want to taste a truly rare bourbon with an even rarer story, we encourage you to try a bottle of this year’s 2021 survivor barrel release.

Bruichladdich Black Art Edition 09.1 Single Malt Scotch

 Back in stock!

Bruichladdich Black Art Edition 09.1 Single Malt Scotch...$589.99
Aged 29 years
44.1% ABV
12,000 bottles made
In an era when efficiency was promoted over quality, our distillery was considered irredeemably old-fashioned. The single malt produced before our closure in 1994 now equates to less than 1% of all the ‘pre-renaissance’ whisky still maturing in our warehouses. Our oldest spirits have become some of our rarest and most treasured. Ensuring the eloquent work of our predecessors is given the closest attention, this finite 1992 vintage has been nurtured on its 29-year journey from cask to cask by our head distiller, Adam Hannett. Matured in unrivalled quality oak, this unpeated spirit’s recipe is held in absolute secret – as is customary with every Black Art edition before it. What we do know about our 9th edition is that our most alchemic single malt is the oldest ever. This is the quintessential Black Art: Edition 09.1.

Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas

Huge scores
Tiny Production
less than 50 cases imported of each!

PERFECT WINE!

2019 Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas Le Lieu Dit...$79.99

The 2019 Gigondas Le Lieu-Dit is as good as it gets – hats off to the young Julien Brechet for one of the finest Gigondas ever made. Coming from a cooler, sandy terroir next to this estate and all Grenache, it was 70% destemmed and spent 18 months in used demi-muids before being moved to concrete tanks prior to bottling. A Grand Cru Red Burgundy-like array of wild strawberries, framboise, flowers, sappy green herbs, and spice all emerge on the nose. This is followed by a seamless, full-bodied, incredibly pure Gigondas that’s more about finesse and elegance than sheer power. I love it today, yet it has the balance, as well as structure, to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for two decades if stored properly.
Rated 100/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Bold raspberry and black cherry aromas are laced with Campari-like spice on the nose of the stunning 2019 Gigondas Le Lieu Dit, which comes from a sandy, southwest-facing parcel that is consistently among the last plots on the estate to be harvested. Full-bodied and velvety in texture, this is a rich, tannic (but ripe) example of Grenache that should be capable of aging well for close to two decades.
Rated 95-97/100 The Wine Advocate
Delicious crushed raspberry and blackberry coulis flavors weave together, giving this version an equally enticing textural edge, while mouthwatering red licorice and rooibos tea notes stitch up the edges. Subtle mineral note infuses the finish, giving this a subtle grounding as the fruit sails through. Drink now through 2035. 540 cases made, 50 cases imported
Rated 95/100 The Wine Spectator

2019 Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas La Colline...$74.99
A wine I’d put up with anything from the Southern Rhône, the 2019 Gigondas La Colline boasts a vivid ruby/purple hue as well as a sensational bouquet of black raspberries, Provençal garrigue, toasted spices, and flowery incense. It’s full-bodied and opulent, yet as seamless and balanced as they come. Based on a single parcel of Grenache vines aged 18 months in dem-muids, it’s a magical Gigondas to enjoy over the coming 15+ years.
Rated 97/100 Jeb Dunnuck
This is nicely packed, with a range of dark plum, boysenberry preserve and cherry pate de fruit flavors pumping through, all carried by fine, racy and thoroughly imbedded chalky minerality. The structure lets the fruit play out while additional floral, tea and anise notes swirl in on the finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2036. 320 cases made, 25 cases imported.
Rated 96/100 The Wine Spectator
Considering the heat of the year, the 2019 Gigondas La Colline is remarkably fresh and fragrant, with stunning garrigue notes joining hints of rose petals and citrus zest to accent raspberries and red plums. It's wonderfully silky and even airy feeling on the medium to full-bodied palate, despite what must be 15% alcohol. Aged in used demi-muids, there's no oak flavor, just a pleasant, smooth mouthfeel and a long, refreshing finish.
Rated 94-96/100 The Wine Advocate

2008 Piper Heidsieck Rare Champagne...$199.99
Like a stallion out of the gate, this shows an initial explosion of power, in the form of mouthwatering flavors and fine texture, before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit, buoying the lacy mousse and flavors of cassis, toasted brioche and tangerine, with accents of candied ginger, hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long, creamy finish. Drink now through 2035.
Rated 97/100 The Wine Spectator

The return of Tenuta La Massa

In stock now at Kirkwood (Forsyth will get some Wednesday)

La Massa is a gem in the heart of the Chianti Classico region that was purchased by Giampaolo Motta in 1992. Motta left behind his family's leather business in Naples to learn to make wine in Italy. While he truly loved the rolling hillsides of Tuscany, he realized that his palate favored wines from Bordeaux. When he purchased La Massa, he decided that his terroir was just as well suited for Bordeaux varietals, so he planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Merlot alongside his Sangiovese vines, as well as a small amount of Alicante Bouschet. The late 2000's were kind to Motta and La Massa wines started gaining notoriety, particularly with Robert Parker, who touted the winery as one of his favorites in Panzano-in-Chianti. Motta's friend and rock star consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt (think Pavie-Macquin, Smith Haut Lafitte, and dozens of others) helped the winery ascend to heights it enjoys today.

These wines have been out of the market for a while, and boy are we happy to have them back! Lovers of the "Super Tuscan" style of wine should seek these wines out. They are approachable in their youth, but age gracefully as well.

2018 Fattoria La Massa "La Massa" Toscana Rosso...$24.99/bottle

A blend of mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Alicante Bouschet, the Fattoria la Massa 2018 La Massa is a textured and softly pliable wine that shows gorgeous color saturation and a panoramic bouquet with black fruit, dried cherry, plum, spice and sweet tobacco. This vintage offered moments of heat and moments of coolness, and the whole approach is balanced quite nicely in this bottle. I give it a solid 10-year drinking window, and you get great value. Rated 93/100 Wine Advocate

2016 Fattoria La Massa "Giorgio Primo"...$99.98/bottle on sale

The consistency and depth of this wine is just incredible. Like the Carla 6, the 2016 Giorgio Primo shows an inky dark color, almost totally black, with penetrating fruit and long waves of rich fruit flavor throughout. George the First casts mesmerizing spells of spice, tar and smoke. This is a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. This is another outstanding effort from Fattoria La Massa and its eccentric but visionary founder, Giampaolo Motta. Some 16,000 bottles, magnums, double magnums and other large formats were created. Rated 98/100 Wine Advocate

"Intensely aromatic and instantly appealing with passionfruit, kaffir lime, nectarine and Granny Smith apple characters, it’s succulent and flavoursome in the mouth delivering terrific fruit power andpersistency. Vibrant and super tasty
Rated 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

2019 Comte de Langeron Bouzeron Aligote...$24.99
Bouzeron is one of the five appellations in the Cote de Chalonnaise and the closest one to the Côte-d’Or (Bouzeron is a close neighbor of Rully and Chassagne-Montrachet). It was officially recognized in 1997 as a full-fledged Burgundian appellation village. The only appellation where the grape Aligote is the star. Bouzeron only produces white wines and the only grape is Aligote. Aligoté grape is a cross of Pinot Noir and Gouais (that no longer exists today). Comte de Langeron Aligote has aromas of fresh peaches, white flowers, and green apples. On the palate, it is well balanced and creamy, but the wine is very pure with great focus and nice streak of acidity running through it. Great crisp White Burgundy with a round mouthfeel! Great bottle!

2019 Stratum Waipara Valley Pinot Noir...$13.99
A brilliant ruby red color leads to a nose that is loaded with assorted, lifted red fruit, raspberry, cherry and plum with an engaging spicy top note and a touch of earthy, stemminess that adds nuance and intrigue. Medium bodied and backed with sleek tannins that gives this a round, silky textural feel. the core of red fruit flavors are vibrant and fresh with enough detail on the finish to keep you coming back for more. Polished and loaded with vibrancy and freshness this should show well over the next 3 plus years quite easily.
Great with Salmon, pork, duck, mushroom dishes

2018 Finca Sobreno Toro Crianza....$19.99
100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo)
"Aged in American oak for just over eight months, notes of balsamic, sweet tobacco, juicy plum, and baking spices make for a compelling Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). The wine’s elegance shows through a burst of pomegranate and white pepper with chalky tannins backing up the finish."
Rated 92/100 The Tasting Panel
