Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch #15 Single Malt Scotch

New Batch #15 is here!

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch #15 Single Malt Scotch...$81.99
  • 113 proof
  • Bottled December 2021
Our most powerful expression. Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength embodies our classic 10 Year Old with pronounced character and a 56.5% proof point. Peat smoke, heather and sea salt run wild.
The only thing between you and the full, uncompromising expression of our most powerful cask strength whisky is the cork. Our Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength is the purest way to experience the taste created by the land, sea and air of Islay. Once removed from the barrel after a decade, the spirit is barrier-filtered to remove unwanted char particles. Then, this cask strength single malt goes straight to the bottle.
The result is a bracing, full-bodied 56.5% vol whisky delivering renowned smoke with a particular rugged character and depths of sweet and spicy flavour. A dram poured neat is lively on the nose with hints of vanilla, pipe tobacco and leather while overwhelming the palate with toffee, fudge and cinnamon. Splashing in a couple drops of water draws out additional peat smoke and notes of sea salt.

2016 Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino

2016 Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino...$89.99

Blackberries, black walnuts and black cherries, as well as loads of chewy tannins. Some smoked wood, wood tannins and even black truffles. It’s full-bodied and powerful with loads going on. It just keeps growing on the palate. So much wet earth and black olive at the finish with porcini mushrooms, too. Needs time to soften. Crazy finish. Try after 2025.
Rated 100/100 James Suckling
If checking in early, make sure to give the towering 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Pertimali plenty of time to stretch its legs. It’s incredibly shy and backward upon first pulling the cork, coming to life nearly an hour later and never taking a step back from there on out. A beguiling display of spiced orange peels, sour cherry and mint pull you closer to the glass, where notes of cardamom, cinnamon, clove and sage reside. It’s dangerously soft and supple at first sip with fleshy red fruits and sweet spices blanketing the palate; yet beneath this soothing mix, a complex web of minerals and fine tannin slowly saturate. That said, there’s a lively bolt of acidity which maintains freshness in spite of the 2016’s heroic structure. Inner florals resonate along with a hint of white pepper, as it tapers off with classic austerity. This is a gorgeous vintage for Pertimali.

Kaiyo Whisky / TWCP Single Cask Whisky #6779

Kaiyo Whisky / TWCP Single Cask Whisky #6779...$99.99
  • Yield only 71 bottles
  • 56% ABV
  • 100% Malted Barley
  • 100% Whisky from Japan
  • 100% Mizunara Oak

This whisky is matured in the finest Mizunara oak casks. Our pioneering research into the effect of wood selection on whisky maturation has led to the development of bespoke barrels, crafted from slow growth, air-seasoned wood from hand-selected trees. These casks are handmade due to Mizunara oaks delicate wood grain.

Mizunara oak casks are the most expensive casks in the world.

The use of mizunara oak for whisky barrels was not what one would declare serendipitous, at least not in its early years. During World War II, Japan, like several other countries, was unable to receive imported goods, making the delivery of European or American oak barrels for whisky maturation impossible. Though it was not a priority to produce whisky, the demand for it increased greatly during this time period and became the primary drink consumed by the Japanese army. With this, Japanese coopers and whisky makers sought a domestic alternative to mature whisky in and found it in Japanese oak, more popularly identified as mizunara oak, which had been used in the craftsmanship of exclusive, luxury furniture.

Mizunara oak for casks however, did not come without its own difficulties and obstacles. Time and supply was a great factor as a Japanese oak tree has to be at least 200 years old before it is a proper size to create a cask; a tree of this size and age was indeed a rare commodity. The shape of the tree also proved a hindrance as the oak trees do not grow straight but rather with a fluid curvature. Japanese oaks also possess less tyloses and more knots than European or American oaks increasing the difficulty to cooper watertight. As the oak is soft and thereby more difficult to shape, it is obviously more susceptible to leakage and prone to damage. The vulnerability to leaking is further aggravated by the naturally high moisture content Japanese oak has in comparison to its other oak cousins. Its name speaks for its incredible permeability: mizu, meaning water and nara, meaning oak, and hence added to the Japanese coopers and whisky creators’ lack of enthusiasm in the Japanese oak.

Manufacturing the mizunara oak casks were not the only dilemma whisky makers faced; with whiskies being aged only a few years during the war time period, the flavor mizunara oak casks infused into the whisky provided a rather unwelcome surprise to whisky drinkers – an explosion of an intense, overbearing woodiness onto the palate. As a result, Japanese oak was snubbed and deemed substandard to American and European white oaks until further studies were done of longer maturation and finishing. Mizunara Oak is now regarded as the finest vessel to mature whisky.

What makes mizunara oak distinct from European oak and White oak? For one, it enjoys a unique sweet and spicy flavor profile which can be attributed to the oak lactones ratio and high level of vanilla. Aromas evoked from the mizunara oak are kara, a type of oriental incense, sandalwood, and coconut.
Research studies have shown that mizunara matured whisky contain more lactones (parts per million) than whiskies matured in either European oak or White oak. An even more riveting discovery was the prevalence of “trans-oak” lactones in Mizunara whisky. This was a remarkable find as it was thought that “cis-oak” lactones can possess a smell up to ten times stronger than “trans-oak” lactones.
Time was a crucial ingredient previously omitted in mizunara oak matured whiskies making another distinction from European and White oak. Many suggest that a whisky needs to mature in order to truly experience the infusion of mizunara oak’s distinct flavors and aromas.
It is perhaps a bit of Mother Nature’s work and serendipity that the mysterious spirit and character of mizunara oak was exposed. Today it is not only appreciated but revered and valued for its rarity and luxuriousness.

Bourbon County Stout 2020 & 2021

2020 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout...$12.99 / 16.9 fl.oz bottle
2020 Vintage!
The Original Bourbon Barrel aged Imperial Stout. Our primary focus every year is to make this beer the best that it’s ever been, with the best ingredients, which includes the finest of bourbon whiskey barrels. This year’s Bourbon County Stout is aged in a mix of bourbon barrels from whiskey distilleries like Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill Distillery and Wild Turkey. Barrel-aged for a year to develop the complexity that only time can provide, Bourbon County Stout boasts a unique blend of flavors such as fudge, vanilla and caramel — topped off with a rich, complex mouthfeel.
Tasting Notes: Cocoa, fudge, vanilla, caramel, almond, plus leather and tobacco
2021 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout...$12.99 / 16.9 fl.oz bottle
2021 Vintage!
Our rich Imperial Stout is blended from a mix of bourbon barrels from distilleries such as Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, and Buffalo Trace, each aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels for 8-14 months. Expect flavors of chocolate and vanilla, oak, whiskey, and molasses, followed by caramel, berry fruit, and almond.
2021 Goose Island Bourbon County Cherry Wood Stout...$17.99 / 16.9 fl.oz bottle
This year, we took wood complexities to another level by doing something we’ve never done before: we took fully-matured Bourbon County Stout and finished it with toasted fruitwood—specifically, honeycomb-shaped cherry wood chips. The versatility of the cherry wood and honeycomb shape allowed for maximum flavor extraction, revealing complex characteristics like red fruit, ripe cherry, and light toffee, which are not found in the original oak barrel itself. The result is an amazing elevation and a notable difference from our Original Bourbon County Stout.
2021 Goose Island Bourbon County Classic Cola Stout...$22.99 / 16.9 fl.oz bottle
Pushing the boundaries of barrel-aged stouts is in our DNA, and with that, we brought to life our first-ever cola-inspired variant. Brewers Paul Cade and Jason Krasowski bonded over their love for a classic cola while creating the Classic Cola Stout. Combining the refreshing nature of classic cola and picking up the flavor profile from a whisky cola, we added lime and orange juice and zest, plus coriander, cassia bark, nutmeg, brown sugar, and vanilla to bring out the complex characters of the classic drink. This is the ultimate twist on a whiskey cola and a must-try for Bourbon County Stout, cola or whiskey/cola lovers.

Ken Wright Cellars Savoya Vineyard

2017 Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir Savoya Vineyard...$54.99
In a most successful vintage for all the KW vineyard selects, the Savoya is especially impressive. Bright and spicy raspberry fruit has a lightly high-toned lift to it, and a burst of citrus adds juicy nectarines to the mix. The wine breathes open quickly and smooths out into a long finish, with a gently resonant wash of almond paste and chocolate.

There are pleasantly herbal and seashore-like characteristics to the nose of this bottling, which offers aromas of green sage, kelp, cranberry, smoke and chiseled rock.
