Papa's Pilar Ernest Hemingway Rum

POSSIBLY THE WORLD’S GREATEST ADVENTURER
Ernest Hemingway’s writing didn’t dictate his life; rather, his life dictated his writing. He lived by the words “Il faut d’abord durer,” meaning “First one must endure,” forging a courage that led to some of the world’s finest storytelling. He was an author, a free thinker, an adventurer, a sportsman, and a bon vivant. But he was never a spectator.

THE ARTISAN-CRAFTED SPIRIT THAT REFLECTS RUM’S GUTSY ROOTS
Rum was once a noble spirit. It was served aboard warships, rationed to visionary explorers, and used to sustain the Founding Fathers as they plotted revolution. Rum was consumed by men who understood that you only get one shot at life. Standing still, they’d say, was a waste of valuable time.

Ernest Hemingway was this type of man – an adventurer who lived life to the fullest. He indulged us with glimpses of a vibrant life by stitching together distant cultures, passions, and people using the power of the written word.  Inspired by his appetite for adventure, we’ve proudly
created a super-premium rum: Papa's Pilar
It is a spirit born of multiple rums hand-selected from the Caribbean, Central America and Florida. The rums are then brought to the U.S.A. and married together in our unique Solera aging and blending process.

Papa’s Pilar represents the original spirit of rum.

Firestone Walker Fortem Leo v. Ursus

Firestone Walker Fortem Leo v. Ursus....$12.99 / 4pk 16oz Cans
Canned 2-24-17
From the crucible of conflict come beers of great intention.
The sparring Lion and Bear not only speak to the unorthodox rapport between founders Adam Firestone and David Walker—they also hearken to the heart of our brewery culture, which for 20 years has been forged by often opposing forces in pursuit of the perfect beer. These forces now culminate in Leo v. Ursus, a chronology of beers that shift stylistically with each limited quarterly release. These are bold creations, often hoppy and intense, but always with a native sense of balance. Many also address “wish lists” expressed to us by loyal fans.

O'Fallon Bottlehouse Brown Ale

O'Fallon Bottlehouse Brown Ale...$7.99 / 6pk

The balance of full flavor and lower ABV makes this tasty brown ale easy to drink any time or all the time. Originally introduced in our winter seasonal Snow Pack, now available as a year-round offering!

2016 Virgile Rose is here!

2016 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Rose...$11.99
Grenache 80%, Syrah 20%
Technical Notes: The grapes are hand-harvested at night to preserve their freshness, and then 100% de-stemmed before undergoing a short 12-hour maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Beginning in 2009 Serge and Thierry have progressively increased the percentage of Grenache from 60% to 80%.  The result is dramatic. Though they have always made elegant, balanced rosés, the wines have become increasingly perfumed and silky.
Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas of wild strawberry and red cherry dominate the nose of this beautiful rosé. The wine is bright pink with a tinge of fuchsia in the glass. The strawberry and cherry notes carry through to the mouth, where they are complemented with hints of red raspberry and refreshing minerality. Château Virgile produces a very versatile rosé, crisp enough to drink on its own, but flavorful enough for a meal

Chateau Virgile at a great price!

Syrah Based Wine from 90 year old vines!
2014 Chateau Virgile Cuvee L'Eneide...$16.99
60% Syrah

Cuvée L’Éneïde is a selection of the best grapes and oldest vines (many over 90 years old) at Château Virgile. The grapes are hand-harvested, 100% de-stemmed.  The wine is then assembled into a cuvée that is aged in a combination of new to 3 year old French oak barriques for 12 months.
This is a seriously powerful and concentrated Costières de Nîmes. The wine is dominated by the Syrah, which gives it its dark black color. The nose is rich with black fruit aromas, complimented by a hint of oak, and subtle garrigue notes. In the mouth the wine is sumptuous. It is full of blackberry, cherry, and plum fruit flavors accented by coffee and chocolate notes. The finish is long and silky with ripe round tannins. This wine is an ideal match for steak au poivre, or on a special occasion, a prime rib of beef.

2015 Le Grand Clos Sauvignon Blanc

This wine is no longer being made as the owner decided to sell his grapes because the demand has gotten so high from his estate that he would have to raise his price to over $20 per bottle.

Stock up, we bought everything that was left!
The 2015 is delicious!

2015 Le Grand Clos Sauvignon Blanc...$11.99
"Le Grand Clos Sauvignon Blancis full of the classic lemon boxwood, and floral notes one would expect. In the mouth, ripe citrus fruit flavors combine with a flinty minerality. This wine is aged on its lees, giving additional depth, and complexity, to this lively wine.

Bargain Rose Sparkling Brut - Domaine Collin

This sparkler was a big hit when we got our first load in a few months back.  Excited to have it back in stock now.

Bargain Rose Brut
Domaine Collin Cremant de Limoux Brut Rose...$19.99
Chardonnay 75% Chenin Blanc 15% Pinot Noir 10%
Philippe Collin, a native of Champagne, moved to Limoux in 1980 to establish his own domaine. Though his family has made Champagne for generations, the opportunities in this sought after, and extremely expensive area, were very limited.

Technical Notes: This wine is produced in a traditional method with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. At the time of bottling, 1% still red wine (Pinot Noir) is added into the final blend, creating its beautiful pale rosé color. The Collin’s Brut Rosé has a low, 6 grams of residual sugar per liter, in comparison to Brut champagne which generally ranges from 9 to 14 grams per liter.

Tasting Notes: This elegantly constructed rosé is pale salmon pink in color. Though the wine is primarily made from Chardonnay, subtle wild strawberry notes are detectable in the nose and on the palate from the Pinot Noir. The crisp, mineral Chardonnay is softened by the lush and aromatic Chenin Blanc. The result is a lively wine with a lot of character, without any aggressive or astringent notes. This is a wonderfully versatile rosé ideal for pork and salmon dishes, or simply on its own as an aperitif

Phillippe did a test on bottle color and now he bottles exclusively in green bottles.  Both wines pictured above are from the same bottling and are the same blend, dosage, etc...Obviouslly the Rose color does not jump out through the green glass, but it does when you pour it in the glass.  We tried them side by side and the green glass tasted much fresher.

Belle Meade Bourbon Finished In Madeira Casks

Belle Meade Bourbon Finished In Madeira Casks...$69.99
Belle Meade Bourbon Finished in Madeira Casks is the third release in our award-winning Special Cask Finish Series. Like its predecessors, careful crafting and patience results in a product that showcases both a taste of America's Native Spirit and the Old World winemaking methods used in Madeira production.

To finish this offering we selected casks which were used in the production of Malmsey Madeira. Malmsey is the richest and sweetest tasting of the Madeira styles and is renowned for the depth and complexity of its honeyed flavors. This is a result of the wine being "cooked," fortified, and aged in the time honored traditions of winemaking on the island of Madeira.

We filled these casks with a blend of 6- and 9-year-old Bourbons. The robust flavors from the casks pair well with the spicy high rye content of the Bourbon and create a striking profile unlike any other whiskey in the world. The nose is floral with vanilla and hints of toffee. The palate shows dark wildflower honey, vanilla, ripe persimmon, dried black cherry, caramelized raw cane sugar, a touch of plum and a healthy dose of baking spices throughout. The lengthy finish echoes the honey, black cherry, vanilla and spice notes, and adds a touch of malt and chocolate.

Belle Meade Bourbon Madeira Cask Finish has been cut to 90.4 proof and, as with all of our products, is never chill-filtered. The result is a Bourbon of particular distinction and uncommon character. Have it neat, with a splash, over a sphere of ice, or create a distinguished twist on your favorite whiskey-based classic cocktail. However you drink it, you'll know you are enjoying a rare spirit made for the discerning whiskey drinker.

92 Point Rioja from Robert Parker

Buy this by the case, put some in the basement to forget about for a couple of years and drink the rest now. An Amazing Rioja that strikes a great balance between old world elegance and modern power, one of the best values I have tasted in years.

2012 Bodegas Hazana Vinas Viejas Rioja...$11.99
The 2014 Hazana Vinas Viejas is simply one of the greatest values in Rioja that money can buy. A blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, this collaboration between importer Eric Solomon and the owner and winemaker has produced an absolutely amazing Rioja from 45- to 70-year-old unirrigated, head-pruned vines. Loads of lead pencil shavings, black and red currants, licorice and tobacco leaf all jump from the glass of this dense, ruby/purple wine. Soft tannins, medium to full body and fabulous intensity, make for a sensational Rioja to drink over the next 5-7 years. If the good news. The good news, in addition to a drop-dead price point is that there are 20,000 cases imported to the U.S.
