Hermitage Brewing Single Hop IPAs

New Batch of single hop IPAs are in stock now

Hermitage Brewing Single Hop IPA Mosaic...$5.99 / 22oz
Released in 2012 for public consumption by Hop Breeding Company, LLC, Mosaic is the most recent addition to our single hop IPA family. This hop varietal is the daughter of Simcoe and another hop varietal derived from Nugget. While Mosaic is primarily used for its aromatic qualities, it can be used for bittering as well.
Flavors include tropical mango, orange blossom and fresh peach or nectarine. It also boasts woodsy and piney elements. At 11-13% alpha acid, the hop bitterness it provides our beer is assertive but short lasting on the tongue, yet it has the bitterness you’d expect from a North American hop variety.
Mosaic hops truly are just that: a mosaic of tastes and aroma for your palate to enjoy. With its fruit-forward notes, it’s also perfect for a summer release.
7% ABV, 70 IBUs

Hermitage Brewing Single Hop IPA Galaxy...$5.99 / 22oz
It’s not too often we rebrew a single hop IPA, but when we do, it’s because it’s too delicious not to. Thankfully, Galaxy falls into this category. This hop varietal was developed, and is exclusively grown, in Australia. Galaxy was developed from Perle hops bred with a high alpha acid female hop grown in Australia; the resulting hop has an alpha acid content that ranges from 11% – 16%. Galaxy hops are typically used as late additions to accentuate its flavor and aromatic qualities.
As a hop varietal, Galaxy has citrus, peach, and passion fruit flavors. Our IPA has a hop aroma that has a grapefruit-like citrus quality with a slight tropical fruit character. The flavor has grapefruit-like citrus notes and a touch of guava with some stone fruit character. Galaxy has an assertive hop bitterness that lasts well into the finish.
7% ABV / 70 IBU

Hermitage Brewing Single Hop IPA Polaris...$5.99 / 22oz
Polaris is the most recent addition to our ever growing line of single hop IPAs. This hop varietal is grown in Hull, Germany and was released to the public in 2012. Polaris is a beast of a hop with an alpha acid content that ranges from 18% – 23%! Despite its high alpha acid content, the hop grower suggests using this hop varietal for its aromatic properties.
Polaris is an interesting IPA. Its aroma is very earthy and has strong garlic/chive/onion qualities that are carried over into its flavor. The finish also has robust resinous character as well.
7% ABV / 70 IBUs

Against the Grain Brettish Bulldog

Against the Grain Brettish Bulldog Old Ale 2014...$10.99 / 500ml
Our first collab beer with the newly formed Louisville brewery, Beer Engine. This riff on a classic style is an old ale by designation, however we got weird and conditioned it for three weeks with Brettanomyces wild yeast. The resulting beer is a complex old ale that pours a ruby color. Notes of dark fruit and cherries are in the nose and flavor. With just a slightly higher ABV than an old ale, this makes for an excellent warmer on the coldest of winter nights or a refreshing nightcap on a warm summer night.
ABV 8.2%

"Italy has a certain “je ne sais quoi” – fab food culture, highly decadent history of art and cool countryside. Some might argue the people are loud and flamboyant, they steal our women, and their soccer players melodramatically flop on the pitch. Listen – that’s all part of the secret Italian ingredient – keep it cool, confident, arrogant and extravagant. Forza Italia!" -- label

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Offering:
Sometimes it can be a hindrance when wines are uniformly good. As I quipped to Hugues Pavelot, a writer prefers to use a sliding rule of adjectives rather than synonyms for “excellent”. But I had no other recourse tasting through a scintillating set of Savigny-les-Beaune wines from quite possibly the village’s finest producer.- Neal Martin The Wine Advocate

We are extremely excited to offer a set of what we feel represent some of the best wines and certainly best values to come out of the outstanding but very small 2012 Vintage in Burgundy.

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune Blanc
The single white is the 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune Village, sourced from two parcels in “Les Vermots” and “Les Planchots”. It has a perfumed bouquet with enticing dried mango, fresh pineapple and peach scents wafting gently from the glass. The palate is soft but generous on the entry. Well-balanced with lush pineapple and lime notes coming through towards the waxy textured finish, this should be delightful once in bottle. (88-90) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune Village has a radiant bouquet with red currant and quince aromas that are nicely defined. The palate is smooth right from the start with a mixture of red and black fruit, sappy ripe tannins and a touch of white pepper sprinkled over the succulent finish. This is very satisfying for a village cru. 88/100 The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode has an elegant, almost ethereal bouquet with floral notes, more rose petal than violets infusing the exceptionally pure mixture of red and black fruit. The palate is crisp and pointed on the entry: dark cherries, citrus lemon and blood orange all vying for attention, with an assertive grip on the focused, mineral-rich finish. Stunning. (93-95) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Guettes
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes has a refined, very feminine bouquet with laser-like precision, cut from the similar fine cloth as the Serpentieres. The palate errs towards the red fruit spectrum. The acidity is just perfectly judged lending this Savigny entrancing precision and focus. This is simply outstanding. (93-95) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains has another bright, vivacious bouquet with dark cherries, wild strawberry and blood orange overlaying some fine mineralite. Again, there is wonderful definition and vigor in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with a marine-influenced entry – hints of seaweed/iodine informing the dense black fruit. This has very good substance with a long, complex, mineral laden finish. Superb. (92-94) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets comes from a half-hectare parcel planted in 1954. It has a lifted, marine-influenced bouquet that is well-defined and fresh, already offering enticing blueberry and cassis aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with fine tannins and well-judged acidity. It is very harmonious towards the silky finish with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed. Excellent. (88-90) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jadot Coming in November

Grand Cru:
2012 Jadot Le Musigny Grand Cru
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru is utterly beguiling on the nose: beautifully composed and refined with scents of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers. The palate is supremely well balanced with perfect acidity slicing through the sophisticated dark berry fruit interlaced with spice and minerals. There is an effortless quality here that is totally captivating and it probably represents the apogee of Louis Jadot’s mammoth portfolio this year. (97-99) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jadot Chambertin Clos De Beze Grand Cru
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru is utterly beguiling on the nose: beautifully composed and refined with scents of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers. The palate is supremely well balanced with perfect acidity slicing through the sophisticated dark berry fruit interlaced with spice and minerals. There is an effortless quality here that is totally captivating and it probably represents the apogee of Louis Jadot’s mammoth portfolio this year. (95-97) The Wine Advocate, (95-98) Tanzer

2012 Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru
A beautifully complex and airy nose features ripe aromas of exuberantly spicy plum, violet, sauvage and essence of red currant. There is a very round and velvety mouth feel to the delicious medium weight flavors that somehow manage to retain a good sense of delineation and energy on the overtly mineral-inflected and wonderfully long finish. I very much like the sense of harmony where the fine-grained tannins add to that impression. This should be excellent in time though note that it will require a minimum of 10 years of cellar time before this is approachable and another 5 to 7 before it arrives at its peak. (92-95) Burgound, (92-94 Wine Advocate, 92-94 Tazner)

2012 Jadot Nuits St George Les Boudots 1er Cru
A heady nose of very strong menthol and wood toasty aromas barely allows the cassis, spice and earth scents to be appreciated. The flavor profile is notably denser and more serious than either the Vaucrains or Les St. Georges as is the finish that is powerful, complex, mouth coating and imposingly long. This should reward longer-term cellaring and note that it will definitely need at least a decade first. (91-94) Burghound, (91-94) Tanzer

2012 Jadot Corton Pougeots Grand Cru Beaune
Bright, dark red. Raspberry and spice aromas lifted by crushed stone. Sappy and energetic, with a classic dryness to the intense flavors of red fruits, menthol and minerals. Really saturates the palate with flavor and builds on the long, vibrant finish. A classic vintage for this cuvee, thanks to the strong stony element (91-93) Tanzer, (92-94) Wine Advocate, (91-94) Burghound

2012 Jadot Beaune Clos de Ursules
This is aromatically quite similar to the Boucherottes with perhaps just a bit more floral influence. The mouth feel is also comparable because while there is excellent volume and intensity, the texture of the medium-bodied flavors is notably refined, all wrapped in a moderately austere, concentrated and driving finish. This is an interesting exercise in contrasts with a polished mid-palate juxtaposing against a robust, serious and old school finish. This will require ample patience. (90-93) Brughound,(91-93) Wine Advocate

2012 Claude Dugat:
2012 Claude Dugat Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru
(just 1-1/4 barrels produced): Good bright red. Wilder and deeper on the nose than the Charmes, with a dark fruit character, an element of smoky minerality and a whiff of meaty reduction. Like liquid silk in the mouth but its compelling sweetness is perfectly counterpointed by lively, integrated acidity. This, too, is consistent from nose to long aftertaste. The fully ripe tannins are suave and sweet. A beauty in the making. (93-96) Tanzer, (95-98) Galloni

2012 Claude Dugate Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques
The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques is all about layers, texture and tactile elegance. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, licorice and new leather resonate on the palate. Vibrant saline notes complement the creamy, voluptuous fruit in a drop-dead gorgeous Burgundy bursting with pure personality and class. (94-96) Galloni

2012 Meo Camuzet:
2012 Meo Camuzet Clos Vougeot
The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which sees almost 100% new oak, has quite a sensual bouquet underneath that carapace of new oak that is embroidered nicely with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe but firm tannins that lend this Clos de Vougeot bewitching symmetry. Silky smooth in texture, it feels long and assertive on the finish, but never over-powering. Excellent.
(93-95) Wine Advocate, (92-94) Tanzer

2012 Meo Corton Perrieres
Medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red berries, flowers, earth and mint. Sweet, fine-grained and delicate, with a touch of herbs to the raspberry flavor. Not at all a fleshy style but prettier than usual for this wine, which tends to be severe in the early going. Finishes with very good length and cut. (91-93) Tazner

2010 Barolo Vietti, Conterno, Einaud, Pio Cesare - big time scores!

“The 2010 vintage of Barolo is the most Nebbiologgiante vintage in recent memory. It offers a pristine and absolutely immaculate view into this great native grape that thrives so successfully in the Langhe area of northwest Italy. Without a doubt, it will be recorded as one of the great vintages of the past decades.”- Monica Larner The Wine Advocate

Early reports of the 2010 vintage from Piedmont were very positive and the recent reviews from The Wine Advocate seem to confirm the 2010 is going to be thought of as one of the great and classic vintages in the last few decades.

2010 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito...$139.99 (only 8 bottles left)
With recently expanded acquisitions in this vineyard cru, the 2010 Barolo Lazzarito shows an expansive personality with pretty tones of crushed rose and red berry fruit that give the wine a delicate, feminine approach. Like the other wines in Luca’s portfolio of new releases, this Barolo is years away from its prime drinking potential. The next ten years should see a steady evolution of aromas stemming from the spice, tar and licorice layers already on display despite the wine’s young age. The mouthfeel is fine and polished with a great sense of purity and balanced freshness. Drink: 2018-2035.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2010 Vietti Barolo Castiglione...$45.99
The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is absolutely lovely upon first impact. It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity. Drink: 2016-2026.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate

2010 Luigi Einaudi Barolo Cannubi...$83.99
The 2010 Barolo Cannubi is beautifully finessed and pure with etched aromas of cola, tar, pressed violets and balsam herb that are straight out of the Nebbiolo playbook. It shows power and extreme elegance in equal measure. Compared to the 2009 vintage that was lighter in the mouth, the 2010 edition is both generous and enduring. It shows the very best of Cannubi, the vineyard cru responsible for one of the most important interpretations of the mighty Nebbiolo grape variety. I look forward to revisiting this wine in ten years or more. Drink: 2017-2030.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2010 Conterno Fantino Barolo Sori Ginestra...$89.99 750ml, $195.99 Magnum
From 40-year-old vines that enjoy southern exposures, the 2010 Barolo Sori Ginestra is the estate’s most complete and powerful wine. You can tell that the wine is shaped by rich, compact soils similar to what is found in the Mosconi cru. Barolo Sori Ginestra is a generous, richly textured wine with juicy tannins and a succulent mouthfeel. The tannins are not aggressive, but they do leave their mark. Overall, the wine’s sugars, alcohol, fruit and acidity are expertly balanced. Drink: 2017-2033.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2010 Pio Cesare Barolo...$69.99
The 2010 Barolo is a great fall back wine for those who want to know the flavor profile of a classic, well-made Barolo. This is a textbook wine, especially in the exceptional 2010 vintage. Black fruit and prune is folded together with delicate tones of cigar ash, crushed mineral, licorice, white truffle and dried raspberry. The tannins are firm, but polished and the wine leaves a lasting imprint of dark fruit and cola on the elegant finish. Drink: 2016-2028.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

Samaroli back in stock with some new releases

These are very rare and limited Scotches.  We are one of the few places you can find these rare whiskys

Very, very limited!

Samaroli 1967 Tomintoul Single Malt Scotch Whiskey....$569.99

44 Years Old
Only 342 bottles made
Bottled in 2011
Reputedly the highest village in Highlands, standing at 345 metres (1,132 feet) above sea level.  In Gaelic Tom an t-Sabhail means hillock of the barn and is a village in the Moray Council zone; in 1975 it became part of Banffshire and its population has dropped from approximately 1,700 (in 1841) to just 322 inhabitants in the 2001 census.

In spite of being very small, the charming village is included in the Whisky Trail, along with Dufftown, Keith, Tomnavoulin and Marypark. The surrounding countryside is the Glenlivet Estate.  The Tomintoul distillery was the result of the fusion of two Glasgow whisky broking firms. The distillery, launched in the early sixties, is obviously modern and its design won the approval of the Royal Fine Art Commission.  It is located on a plateau in the hills below the village.

Tomintoul was the third “new” distillery to be built in the 20th century.

In 1974 its stills were increased to two pairs. Whisky stocks are estimated at approximately 80,000 casks, of which some date back to the first year of production (1965).
What more can we say?
44 years old and doesn’t feel it.
With this selection, anybody who has not had the pleasure of tasting Silvano Samaroli’s first bottlings will be able to experience otherwise incomparable emotions.
Very elegant pear extract backed up by a vein of pleasant smooth alcohol that prolongs the multidimensional sensation endlessly.
This spirit is a promenade that transports you mind and soul to heights of Absolute Quality that are very hard to find.

Samaroli 1992 Glen Scotia Single Malt Whisky...$289.99
Fresh Fill Sherry

21 year Old
Only 360 bottles made
Bottled 2013

Distillery info
Was built in 1832 by Guild Stewart and John Galbraith, even if the official foundation date is 1835 and the labels still show 1837, i.e. the date from which it was sold with this brand.
From 1895 Duncan MacCallum helmed the company, until 1928 when, due to the prohibition period, he committed suicide, drowning in 1930 in Campbeltown Loch.

Technical tasting Notes
Soft fruity nose, aroma of vanilla and peat; vegetable and liquorice in the finish.
Ample, round and intriguing taste, in which liquorice stands strongly out again.
Very pleasant, with a very graceful taste.
Excellent

Samaroli 1990 Glen Garioch Single Malt Whisky....$234.99
23 Year Old
Only 276 bottles produced
Bottled 2013
Glen Garioch trademark is elegance as well as silky smoky personality.  The Glen Garioch characteristic is balanced peatiness merged with flowery malt and a medium bodied smoothness in the finish.
"The distillery was founded in 1797.   The outside of Glen Garioch is very attractive, a small-scale cluster of mellowed stone buildings, usually with pagoda heads, making up a well-preserved exterior.  The floor malting are still in use and supply just a half of the required amount of malt.  The rest comes from outside malt houses.  Peat was cut from local Pitsligo Moss for the malt drying.  The peat was burned under the malt for about four hours to endow the correct degree of flavor for Glen Garioch and the drying is completed by gas-firing.  A third still was added to the original pair in 1973, and then a fourth.  One of the wash stills is twice the size of the other still plus the two spirit stills.  Sadly, the distillery is closed at the time of writing (1996) and is seeking new ownership."

Samaroli 1997 Isle of Jura Single Malt Scotch Whisky...$179.99
670 bottles made
Bottled 2013
"Clear, crisp, such as its colour.  Kindness and liveliness, transparency and confidentiality are its paradigm.  Salty waters of the sea, clear, terse and innocent, algae and salt with a sweetness of flower, are the list of sensations that the nose perceive.  The mouth is curious to know how you will taste the enigmatic sens of smell.  The surprise is delicate satisfying fullness of acacia, a fres end, a diaphanous refreshing presence that continually invites you to take the glass.

1991 Samaroli 1991 Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky....$299.99

Distilled: 1991
Bottles: 2013
Age: 22 Years
Bottles produced: 330
This single malt is a dualism of fragrance and harmony. Fresh, generous and rich.  Mint, rosemary and herbs complement the sensation of chocolate and leather, that finishes with a touch of peat.  Complex and intriguing.

Avery 5 Monks QUINTUPLE! aged in Bourbon Barrels

SOLD OUT

Avery 5 Monks' Barrel Aged Belgian Style Quintuple Ale...$11.99 / 12oz
Boulder, CO –This Sunday Avery Brewing Company will release No. 22 in it’s Barrel-Aged Series, 5 Monks, a 19.4% ABV Bourbon barrel-aged Belgian-style quintupel ale.

Although Avery’s brewers didn’t go into this project trying to make the highest gravity beer in Avery history, that’s what they did. But Avery’s Chief Barrel Herder Andy Parker explains they were more interested in exploring ethanol as a flavor component. “As a brewer, the main reason to make these high alcohol beers is that there’s a whole range of flavors out there that’s virtually unexplored.”

“In the spirit of quadrupels, we made the recipe to have lots of dark fruit and raisin flavors. Those match well with the vanillin compounds from the fresh Bourbon barrels and the charred oak,” said Parker.

Adam Avery, the brewery’s founder, says the entire Barrel-Aged Series has been fun for the brewers to dream up, and naming 5 Monks a “quintupel” was done in jest. “Belgian beers have a long history of singles and doubles and triples and the occasional quadrupel, so we’re calling it a quintupel because ‘sextuple’ just didn’t seem right with monks on the label.”

“What do you call a 19.4% Belgian Bourbon beer?” Avery jokingly asks. “You tell me!”

Parker anticipates there will be some sticklers who maintain that quintuples don’t exist. “You’re right, they didn’t exist. But they do now. We’re creating our own destiny here.”

Parker explains why he loved making this beer. “Avery Brewing has been on the ragged edge of experimentation for years. Everyone who works at Avery is a beer geek, and if we’re not creating new styles that no one has ever made before, then what’s the point?”

5 Monks is one of six beers over 15% ALC/VOL that Avery will release in the next several months: Rumpkin rum barrel-aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale, The Beast Grand Cru, and Mephistopheles’ Stout, plus two beers that will be packaged and released for the first time ever: Pump[KY]n Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Porter and Tweak Bourbon barrel-aged Espresso Stout.

“Building our new brewery has opened up lots of exciting opportunities for us, including expanding our barrel-aging program and having more freedom to explore. It’s gonna be an exciting fall for us,” said Avery.

The rare "GG" - Grosse Gewachs

"GG" - Grosse Gewachs
(Great Growths of Germany)
For a wine to be labeled Grosse Gewachs the fruit must come from one of Germany's Grosse Lage Vineyards,a designation used only for Germany's very best vineyard sites - small, carefully demarcated areas with clear site-specific characteristics. Yields on these sites are limited to 50hl/ha. These wines are fermented to dry and represent the finest expression of Dry Riesling coming from Germany. Very little is produced and even less gets exported so we are very excited to be able offer these amazing wines from Schafer Frohlich.

2012 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Bockenauer Felseneck Grosse Gewachs....$77.99
The 2012 Felseneck Riesling Grosses Gewächs is a fine follow-up to the utterly magical 2011 version, offering up a deep and marvelously defined bouquet of tart pear, pink grapefruit, wild yeasts, petrol, complex slate tones, citrus zest and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure, with a great core of fruit, ripe, snappy acids, laser-like focus and superb length and grip on the nascently complex and very, very promising finish. Great juice.

Rated 95+/100 John Gillman A View From The Cellar

2011 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube Grosse Gewachs....$72.99
White peach, grapefruit, and pineapple allude to their pits, pips, and core; yet, this finishes with clarity and fineness utterly free of bitterness; saturated with pungent minerality; and daring you to resist the next sip. A real tour de force, it should merit at least a dozen years’ attention.

2007 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Bockenauer Felseneck Grosse Gewachs...$77.99
A greenhouse-like diversity of foliage and flowers combines with fresh berry, herbs, and citrus in the nose of Schafer-Frohlich’s 2007 Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Grosses Gewachs. With an unusually lithe feel and primary juiciness for a wine of its genre, this saturates the palate with herb-tinged grapefruit, white peach, and yellow-plum, finishing with fantastic length, intricate interaction of fruit and intriguing mineral notes, and irresistible sheer refreshment. Plan to follow some of this for 10-12 years, but don’t miss out on some in its youth, either!

Wild Turkey Forgiven

New Batch released -- batch 303

An accident that was meant to be....
Apparently a mistake was made and their rye and Bourbon got blended together....apparently there was yelling and cursing until the blend was tasted....all is now forgiven...

It's like when peanut butter and chocolate got got mixed together...the rest was history.

Wild Turkey Forgiven Special Edition Batch....$45.99
"Introducing our small batch blend of Bourbon and Rye Whiskies...The batch we never intended.  With just one taste our Associate Master Distiller, Eddie Russell, knew their mistake was more a master stroke.  Because it married the very best qualities of our robust Rye whiskey and a fine Bourbon:  vanilla oaky taste pointing perfectly towards a cinnamon, clove and pepper finish.  Aged, of course, in our No.4 Alligator charred barrels - something we'd never leave to chance."
"When our Distillery's crew unwittingly mingled a very rare, high proof Rye with perfectly aged Bourbon, our Associate Master Distiller discovered they had created something exceptional:  a whiskey blend that's big, bold and spicy, yet exceptionally smooth.  Needless to say all was forgiven." - label

Vienna
The quintessential amber lager revisited.
Vienna-style beers are among the world’s first light-colored lagers and were on the brink of extinction until American craft brewers helped revive the style; it’s a good thing they did. These delicate and extremely balanced amber beers rely on semi-sweet and bready malt flavors but walk a fine line with both malt and hop character shouldering equal weight. Our take on the style features whole-cone European hops, which add to the dry finish

Oktoberfest
Germany’s Oktoberfest celebrated a royal marriage and the health of the fall harvest—which in Bavaria, means brewers, barley and hops! Today, Oktoberfest is considered one of the world’s greatest parties, and in honor of that rollicking bash we bring you our version of the classic festival beer. Oktoberfest is medium-bodied and rich with bready and toffee-like malt flavor but maintains a crisp finish marked by floral and spicy hops.

95 point Chardonnay for $45

Only 258 cases made

2012 Tyler Bien Nacido Chardonnay...$44.99
Coming from the eastern edge of Bien Nacido and vines planted in 1973, the 2012 Chardonnay Bien Nacido is one of the top Chardonnays in the vintage. Loaded with mineral-laced stone fruits, salt water and white flowers, it has incredible purity, building richness and a crystalline-like quality that keeps you coming back to the glass. It’s a gorgeous effort that will drink nicely for 4-5 years, possibly longer, although I see no reason to hold off.

Founders Dissenter Imperial IPL

Another surprise case just showed up today

Founders Dissenter Imperial IPL...$10.99 / 750ml
We plan to introduce Dissenter, an Imperial India Pale Lager (IPL) brewed with a wide variety of tropical, citrus-forward hops, this August to mark the tenth installment in our Backstage Series. Like all of our Backstage Series beers, Dissenter will be sold in 750mL bottles.

Dissenter is the first lager we’ve brewed since Noble Lager, a beer that hasn’t been in our production cycle for twelve years. Dissenter is our argument in favor of the potential for complex lagers, clocking in at 8.7% ABV and 70 IBUs.

This beer is a departure from our other releases for a couple of reasons: All of the beers in our standard lineup are ales, which are fermented at warm temperatures, whereas lagers are fermented cold. Plus, Dissenter uses a different kind of yeast from other Founders beers. Test batches of the Imperial IPL were brewed using our pilot system and have been on tap in our taproom off and on throughout the past few months. The longer brewing process used for lagers gives this beer an exceptionally clean finish, allowing the clear beauty of the hops to shine.

“With Dissenter, we’re releasing yet another Backstage Series beer that doesn’t fit within standard beer style guidelines,” said Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education Dave Engbers. “And that’s the point. It’s a celebration of the creativity of our brewing team, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with the growing circle of beer enthusiasts.

Dissenter will be released in limited quantities across our distribution footprint beginning on Friday, August 1, and will be available at our taproom that same week. Look for one more Backstage Series releases from us in 2014.
