“The 2010 vintage of Barolo is the most Nebbiologgiante vintage in recent memory. It offers a pristine and absolutely immaculate view into this great native grape that thrives so successfully in the Langhe area of northwest Italy. Without a doubt, it will be recorded as one of the great vintages of the past decades.”- Monica Larner The Wine Advocate

Early reports of the 2010 vintage from Piedmont were very positive and the recent reviews from The Wine Advocate seem to confirm the 2010 is going to be thought of as one of the great and classic vintages in the last few decades.

2010 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito...$139.99 (only 8 bottles left)
With recently expanded acquisitions in this vineyard cru, the 2010 Barolo Lazzarito shows an expansive personality with pretty tones of crushed rose and red berry fruit that give the wine a delicate, feminine approach. Like the other wines in Luca’s portfolio of new releases, this Barolo is years away from its prime drinking potential. The next ten years should see a steady evolution of aromas stemming from the spice, tar and licorice layers already on display despite the wine’s young age. The mouthfeel is fine and polished with a great sense of purity and balanced freshness. Drink: 2018-2035.

2010 Vietti Barolo Castiglione...$45.99
The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is absolutely lovely upon first impact. It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity. Drink: 2016-2026.

2010 Luigi Einaudi Barolo Cannubi...$83.99
The 2010 Barolo Cannubi is beautifully finessed and pure with etched aromas of cola, tar, pressed violets and balsam herb that are straight out of the Nebbiolo playbook. It shows power and extreme elegance in equal measure. Compared to the 2009 vintage that was lighter in the mouth, the 2010 edition is both generous and enduring. It shows the very best of Cannubi, the vineyard cru responsible for one of the most important interpretations of the mighty Nebbiolo grape variety. I look forward to revisiting this wine in ten years or more. Drink: 2017-2030.

2010 Conterno Fantino Barolo Sori Ginestra...$89.99 750ml, $195.99 Magnum
From 40-year-old vines that enjoy southern exposures, the 2010 Barolo Sori Ginestra is the estate’s most complete and powerful wine. You can tell that the wine is shaped by rich, compact soils similar to what is found in the Mosconi cru. Barolo Sori Ginestra is a generous, richly textured wine with juicy tannins and a succulent mouthfeel. The tannins are not aggressive, but they do leave their mark. Overall, the wine’s sugars, alcohol, fruit and acidity are expertly balanced. Drink: 2017-2033.

2010 Pio Cesare Barolo...$69.99
The 2010 Barolo is a great fall back wine for those who want to know the flavor profile of a classic, well-made Barolo. This is a textbook wine, especially in the exceptional 2010 vintage. Black fruit and prune is folded together with delicate tones of cigar ash, crushed mineral, licorice, white truffle and dried raspberry. The tannins are firm, but polished and the wine leaves a lasting imprint of dark fruit and cola on the elegant finish. Drink: 2016-2028.
