40 Year Old vines - rare Gamay Freux
2022 Domaine Clos L’Original Gamay Fréaux...$22.99
40-year old Gamay Fréux vines, a darker-skinned mutation of Gamay. Whereas most red grapes have clear juice, with color coming from skin contact, the Gamay Fréux juice is naturally red, therefore it is considered a ‘teinturier’ (tinting) grape.
Deep purple in color from its naturally pigmented juice. Bursting with wild blackberry, black cherry, and pomegranate, complemented by floral notes of violets and a hint of spice. On the palate, juicy and energetic, with bright red and black fruit, soft tannins, and a vibrant acidity. A subtle earthiness and peppery finish add complexity. This is a fresh, lively wine with serious intensity.
Charcuterie boards with saucisson and pâté. Grilled eggplant, mushrooms, and roasted root vegetables. Lightly spiced dishes like lamb tagine and soft-ripened cheeses like Brie or Tomme de Savoie. Serve slightly chilled. Drink young for its fresh, vibrant fruit or cellar for 3-5 years to
develop more earthy and savory notes.
