A new special cuvée introduced in 2014, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée A Tempo Blanc is an even split of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, all from the Mont Pertuis lieu-dit, that was aged in a mix of very old barrels and stainless steel. There’s a scant 100 cases produced and it has terrific, saliva-inducing minerality as well as ample citrus blossom, white peach, mint and a sea breeze-like saltiness. Tight, focused, medium to full-bodied and with impressive density, it needs 6-12 months of bottle age, and I suspect will keep for over a decade.

Green-tinged yellow. Penetrating aromas of ripe citrus and orchard fruits, iodine, toasted grain and smoky minerals develop a sexy floral quality as the wine opens up. Juicy, focused and deeply concentrated, offering palate-staining pear nectar, Meyer lemon and honeysuckle flavors, a strong mineral undertone and superb clarity. Shows outstanding focus and power on the mineral- and floral-driven finish, which persists with outstanding tenacity. This highly complex wine reminded me of a serious Grand Cru white Burgundy.
