Cambridge Brewing Company Heather Ale....$6.99 / 22oz
World Famous Herbal Beer with Handpicked Fresh Heather Flowers
From out of the darkness of pre-recorded history, Heather Ale is an altogether unique brew. Originally crafted by the inhabitants of coastal Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Northern British Isles, fresh heather flowers and other herbs were used to balance and flavor the rustic yet sweet toasted character of the malted barley. Its brewing tradition existed long before the advent of hopped beers, and has continued, sporadically, in small rural communities for millennia.
The best day of the year comes once every summer when the Brew Crew and friends travel to Westport on Massachusetts’ Atlantic Coast to pick fresh heather flowers. After a long day of toiling in the sun, we hustle home and add them to the kettle to create our world famous Heather Ale. Brewed with imported Scottish floor-malted barley, fresh hand-harvested heather flowers are added to the kettle during the boil along with sweet gale and lavender, with a further addition of fresh heather and yarrow to the conditioning tanks.
The aroma and flavor are a surprising jog of ancient memory, with commingling subtle notes of heather and honey and an obscure wildflower spiciness complemented by the interplay of mild but assertive, toasty-sweet malt. Medium bodied, light amber-gold in color, with a dry finish that hints at tartness.
Slainte!
Cambridge Brewing Sgt. Pepper Farmhouse Ale...$6.99 / 22oz
Farmhouse Ale with Peppercorns
Sgt. Pepper has been brewed with Pilsner, CaraVienne, and Rye malts, plus Magnum and Spalter hops. But the driving force behind this beer is the contribution from whole Black, Green, White, and Pink peppercorns. Added to the brewkettle, these four fab peppercorns harmonize with spicy hops while the malted rye and our Belgian yeast hold down the backbeat.
It’s far out with food and guaranteed to raise a smile.
Enjoy the show!
Blessed be! Our ridiculously big, ultra-hoppy imperial red ale, RED GOD returns to the exaltations of worshippers far and near. From his celestial perch, he commands this rapturous union of malt and hops and prophesizes our inescapable bitter finish! Since its inaugural brew many years ago, both the malt and the hop content have been increased with each successive batch, yielding what today is an absurd 9.0% hop monster.
Red God features 7 different hop varieties showcasing, in particular, Chinook, Amarillo, Simcoe, and Centennial. These varieties combine for a strong herbal, spicy, citrusy character, which dominates the palate.
Hopping rate is quite aggressive at nearly five pounds per barrel with 80+ IBU, yet balance prevails! American pale and Belgian caramel malts provide a rich and malty, deep red pedestal upon which this hop fest rides until its long, lingering, hop-bittered finish.
Beware this vengeful God!
