Dewar's Double Double 21 Year Old Magma Stone...$129.99 / 750ml
Toasted French Oak, Level 3
Dewar’s Double Double 21 Year Old Stone Toasted Magma French Oak (Level 3) is the latest masterstroke of innovation and craft in the Double Double collection. Crafted with the unique Dewar’s four-stage ageing process, this expression is aged a minimum of 21 years for impeccable smoothness. However, it is the final step in its creation that imparts its most significant characteristics.
During final finishing, the whisky is placed into French Oak casks that have been slowly toasted with hot Icelandic magma stones, rather than charred. By opening the wood slowly and gradually via toasting, a whole new kind of interaction is allowed to take place as the whisky and wood interact. Through this interaction, lighter, more delicate, more diverse flavors are revealed including notes of cinnamon, cloves, caramel, and baked apples.
Created by six-time Master Blender of the Year Stephanie Macleod, Dewar’s Double Double 21 Year Old Stone Toasted Magma French Oak (Level 3) is a fine example of the melding of finishing expertise and a sense of unfettered exploration and discovery. It is one of five experimental whiskies designed to show the potential and influence of oak in finishing. The other four whiskies in the collection each show the possibilities of the different factors involved, including type of oak (American vs. French), heat source (magma vs. jade), and toasting level.
