Limited Chateauneuf du Pape releases - new vintage 2023 Domaine Clos St Jean - Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc...$65.99 One of the best whites in the appellation, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is rich in texture while at the same time vibrant and fresh. Ripe citrus, lychee, crushed stone, and mint herb notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, has bright acidity, and a great finish. This is, as always, 25% each Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Bourboulenc that has its malolactic fermentation blocked and was brought up mostly in used Burgundy barrels. Based on 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 4% Vaccarèse, 3% Mourvèdre, and 3% Cinsault, it's a gem of a wine and in this is vintage appears to be a solid step up over the classic cuvée Rated 93/100 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 Domaine Clos St. Jean - Clos Jean Ex Machina Chateauneuf du Pape...$135.99 This sublime and distinctive Châteauneuf offers waves of complex, concentrated flavor yet never feels heavy. Sanguine tones of bacon fat, grilled herbs, tobacco and cured meat layer atop warm plum and macerated cherry. Creamy, with beautiful textural appeal that goes on and on thanks to ultrafine tannins. Shows zero rough edges, with plenty of pleasure and smoky allure. Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2026 through 2040. 380 cases made, 80 cases imported. Rated 97/100 The Wine Spectator Lastly, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Deus-Ex Machina shows a similar profile to the Combes des Fous, yet it brings another level of tannins and concentration. Kirsch liqueur, white flowers, sandalwood, cured meats, and graphite notes all shine here, and it's full-bodied, has a deep, layered, powerful, yet weightless profile, lots of ripe tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. This ripe, sexy, seamless, incredibly impressive beauty will compete with anything in the vintage. As usual, this cuvée is 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, which is brought up in roughly 40% new demi-muids.
