2016 was another classic year in Bordeaux,even after 2014 & 2015, two well-reviewed vintages.
We’re featuring our favorite, affordable and age-worthy wines from this great vintage.

“The 2016 vintage in Bordeaux will surely be seen as a high point of this decade, though the 2015s are very close in overall quality.“
Bordeaux writer Neal Martin of Vinous Media

Info on a few of the wines....

2016 Smith Haut Lafitte...$154.99
A brilliant wine, one of the best ever at this property. Straight from the first nose you feel an added dimension and aromatic complexity to this bottle. The diversity of flavours tumbles out on the attack, from brambled autumnal fruits to tighter, fresher black cherry and cassis notes. The body is deeply coloured, full of life and pleasure, with rich, deep cassis and high but generous alcohol that's not intrusive but showing through in the smooth texture. It was great En primeur and is even better today. 1% Petit Verdot finishes the blend.

2016 Chateau Meyney St. Estephe....$39.99
The 2016 Meyney is a bold, powerful wine. Tobacco, menthol, chocolate, spice and torrefaction notes all add shades of darkness. Meyney is potent and quite broad in feel, and yet everything is very nicely balanced. Although not especially subtle, Meyney delivers the goods, and then some

2016 Le Petit Haut Lafitte...$39.99
The 2016 Le Petit Haut Lafitte is a fabulous second wine from Smith Haut Lafitte. Inky blue/purplish berry fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice and cloves give the Petit Haut Lafitte its striking aromatic complexity. Deep, resonant and exquisitely layered, the 2016 is a real joy to taste. I would cellar it for another year or two. The 2016 has enough depth and pedigree to develop beautifully for the next 10-15 years.

2016 Fontenil Fronsac
The 2016 Fontenil has a well-defined bouquet of red currant and cranberry fruit, crushed rose petals and light peppery aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berries, a fine bead of acidity and quite a persistent finish. Certainly one of the more elegant Fontenils that I have tasted. Superb.
